I have the Pittsburgh pro 1/2 impact sockets in metric, bought them 8 years ago I use them professionally at the Chevrolet dealership have yet to break one 👏
I've never had any of the Pittsburg impact sockets break. Only thing that could have been done better would be to stamp the size on the sockets better.
I've only used the Pittsburgh Pro. No issues. But, the skipping thing gets my OCD goin in high gear. I've been lookin at Capri, Sunex, Grey Pneumatic, and others. I really hate skips. It really shouldn't bother me really, since I'm not a Pro mechanic. But it does.
@@bmon_25 Just got a set of Sunex 3/8ths Impacts, They feel very high quality and have a nice fit around fasteners. For 30$ for a set without skips is a steal!
I'll also vouch for Sunex, awesome sockets. Bought the full 1/2 and 3/8 sets with swivels at a fraction of what our tool truck would have cost me. They feel great and 3/8s has zero skips all the way to 22mm which is handy sometimes
If you are use to Pittsburg Pro, I think you would like the Gearwrench sockets. Also Tekton have full sets at a much better price than the others but are not chrome moly. I just got a set of deep 10 to 24 no skips for my Dad.
I have Pittsburgh Pro, Pittsburgh, Icon, and Tekton impact sockets. I've been using them for a while now as a weekend (and weekday) warrior- several times a week. The Icon definitely has the best fit and finish but none of them have let me down... The price difference between the two Pittsburghs is so trivial, there's no reason not to buy the Pittsburgh Pro. Tekton compares to Pittsburgh Pro in my opinion on overall quality control. Icon is definitely a cut above the two. Is it 2x the price better? Nah- haven't worn one out from any brand. Do I regret my purchase of the Icon set? Nope. It's more than paid for itself. None of these are that expensive in the first place compared to big brands... Happy customer here who will continue to buy Icon, Tekton, and Pittsburgh Pro. They all work harder than I do.
i have all sunex absolutely love them. i have worn out my 19 and 21 mm deep impact not broken them. tool truck warranted them out no questions. sunex has now that you can e mail a pic and they send you a new one. and i like the cases they come in and variety. it really seems like a mechanic is designing their sets with the variety and how they are put toegether. my first set was deep impact master set and have had them for 22 years and only wore 2 out
I've owned Pittsburg pro no issues, other than skipping sizes. Last couple of years I've gone with Tekton, Astro Pneumatic, Sunex, and Capri. Some others for individual more specialty sockets in various sizes. Love them all.
I bought a set of 3/8 sunex impacts from the USA tools truck, paid $200 for the set in the case, 7mm-22mm no skips, shorts, longs, swivels, a small extension, a bit socket adapter and a universal (swivel) adapter. Best purchase ever! Some of my 1/2" impacts are pittsburgh pro, have had them for years and still holding up good. For 3/8s nothing will replace my sunex set! 🍺
My feedback is this. I picked up harbor freight impacts just to see how they were? I used them on my snap on gun and they did work very well I was surprised! The key is using the correct socket for the job! They held up very well just dont give them more than they are made for? I own over 150 thousand dollars in snap on tools and growing and they are a good buy!
Icon impacts are way nicer, I own all all impact sockets in metric and sae swivels and all, has no issues use them everyday when working cars at the dealership.
I’ve got the 3/8 icon shallow metric and standard they have a thinner wall than say a Snapon but it help in some situations. I like them I’ve had them for two years and have used them on heavy equipment
Justin Dow.. I sold some of my Snap on stuff to give the money to a friennd to help him when he was about to loose everything. Now I can't afford Snap on so I have been fill in the spots (hate missing sockets) with other brands. I bought the Pittsburgh (or pro not sure) deep impact sockets to fill in empty spots but not really expecting much out of them. I have to say that so far they are very good sockets. They really impressed me.
Ive got Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Pro impact sockets 1/2 drive sae and metric. Been looking hard at Gearwrench swivel sockets 3/8 drive impacts for awhile. I wish Gearwrench was a box store. Online shopping is good for price comparison but its hard to judge quality by reviews.
i am a professional auto tech. Bought the Pittsburgh colored socket set 23 years ago and they are still working great. none wore out or broke. the Earthquake 1/2 impact has lasted me to this day and I bought it in 2000. You will not be unhappy with this brand.
I have both the Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh Pro sets and they are great. I have them on aftermarket rails. I also have the star and hex sets plus the 3/8 drive metric swivel set they have worked okay. But the swivel wouldn’t hold up to heavy daily use. I looked at a number of sets including the Icon, but I ended up purchasing the GearWrench metric 10 to 30 shallow and deep Chrome Moly impact socket set for about $110. It has more sizes, a great case, and the sockets are some of the best made.
I manage an automotive repair shop, Atlanta, GA. Best quality+pricing included , hands down Sunex. Grey Pneumatic are very nice if you can spend a little more $. Lifetime warranty and excellent quality. *Just picked up 1/4" & 3/8" universal's from Matco online from Ebay for a bang up awesome deal. I consider the Matco ADV universal socket set's to be superior to all, if you have the money. Starting out, i would go with the Sunex to save $
lol, I got that pittsburgh set I keep in my side job bag..lol, Not suitable for the daily grind in the shop IMO. But teamed up with my milwaukee electric ratchet, they get the job done..Good stuff bud
Did I read right mechanic tips and side jobs ? I have a xj Jeep Cherokee 96 started knocking like I hit it with a sledgehammer going to tear it down.trying to see if it’s cheaper to put a new motor in it. Here’s the kicker it’s been sitting for four years. Got any tips or tricks on getting it running?
Thought maybe a crips video for a second HA. The swivel sockets I have are MAC, Snap-On, SK and GearWrench and Astro they all seem to work well but you will need to warranty them out over time because of the nature of a flex sockets on impacts. The most flexible are the GearWrench E Core, the Astro's are the best/ tightest to hold shape for placement and the others all work about the same.
I picked up the sunex 3/8 master metric socket set which includes the swivel shallow metric impact sockets I picked them up for around 125.absolutely love them and at a great price I might add
Hell Ya. Thanks for sharing your experience with Sunex Impacts. I’m seeing a lot of Technicians that own Sunex impacts and Love the quality and warrenty ☕️🤙
that's what I'm talking about I'm no professional person but also think about the storage also not having to worry about buying better socket trays cause you have to put swivel on the stick it comes with have to take time let them off an add more money an time then to buy the icon an use the tray they are loose inside no prying or anything is stuck an it's one hand grab situation I agree on the skip sizes I'll pay the money for big non skip items for sure
I have both Pittsburgh Pro and ICON impacts in metric 1/2” drive. Both sets work great, and beyond the aesthetics, there’s no discernible difference as it relates to quality. Both sets have been used with the 1/2 “ Milwaukee and they both deform about the same; not excessive. The tolerances are about equal as well. I’d like to se if there’s any difference in the wall thickness, but at a glance, I didn’t see any difference.
Completely agree with you. I would rather see a tool in stores first. Then online. And these sockets unfortunately aren't as commonly found in stores. I have been waiting for a video over these sets and a comparison. Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for making this brother. As you already know these sockets can get very expensive so going over these that are found in harbor freight and the differences was a great idea. Hope you had a good weekend 🍻👍
Ok so I'm a DIY guy, doing brakes today lol but ,I didn't see any difference ,I like the case and all but for me absolutely no difference, just my opinion but Tekton is gonna be my best bet, price ,quality, case! They have it all and the deep sae impact sockets I just ordered were 35 bucks, and backed by there guarantee is what makes them even better
Great topic, Dow. I don’t plan on buying any more ICON tools, aside from the breaker bar I purchased, but I look forward to reading the comments. The greatest advantage of shopping local, even the Big Box stores, over Amazon is we give better support for the local businesses and economy. From what I’ve read Amazon has taken away more jobs than they have created. And yes, it’s better to physically see and handle a product than it is to make a decision based on a picture.
Justin, Ebay is a another great place when looking online in addition to Amazon. Especially if you're searching for specific vintage tools or U.S.A tools that are either new or slightly used.
I don't use them personally, but our mechanic helper/lube guy runs the Pittsburgh 1/2" drive deep impacts (standard and metric), that the shop provides. Those sockets have been in daily use, in a heavy truck shop, primary used in brake and suspension work for a little over a year now. No breaks, no premature wear. For any missing sizes needed, we used some extra, older Snap-on sockets laying around, and/or purchased individual Kobalt impacts from Lowe's. The only issue we found was that the 1-1/8" socket was not deep enough to clear the threads on a u-bolt. Just swapped it out with a spare Snap-on socket.
I bought ONE 19mm Snap-On shallow impact socket, I've had it for only 7 months and its almost completely rounded out the drive side.I only use it about 3-4 times a day if that! Never going to buy snap-on sockets again. I got a set of sunex impacts and husky impacts and they hold up much better.
I'm a retired ase dealer and private shop guy I stated out with Pittsburgh's deep impact socket had them when I retired -a few I got that snap an mac an gp
Recently just picked up the M12 stubby 3/8” gun. I needed some impact sockets so I picked up the shallow 3/8” metric they didn’t have the deeps so I bought the Pittsburgh roughy $12 but I was missing 15 and 18 so I had to go to northern tool and buy the singles which came out to $14. I don’t like skip sets. Icon comes with 7mm to 19mm and it’s Chrome-Moly steel which is supposed to withstand impacts better than CR-V. I think the standard icon impact sockets are worth the price if you don’t want to order online.
Justin Dow with a 20% off icon coupon for the icon metric deep impacts I think they would be around $45. So for an extra $20 you get a better material and a complete set. I think that’s well worth the price. You buy cheap and you buy twice.
I've also have both impact sockets Pittsburgh pro and icon. The icon are way.... to soft they're 3 months old looking like 3 years old a lot of wear. The pro are 4 years old look like they are 4 months old. Icon are Chrome moly the Pittsburgh pro are Chrome Vanadium Steel. I've been trying the grey pneumatic and they are great just as good as my Mac sockets
Good video. I have a mix of Sunex and Astro & Gearwrench. Had good luck with them all. I use these with my Makita impacts as well as my hand ratchets. I think the tool quality from overseas has really gotten good.
I like that icon has more sizes and no skips. I bought both sae and metric 3/8 deep icon and there great, pretty decent with coupon like 40 each. But I just bought 3/8 swivel sockets from Pittsburgh because even though icon has more sizes, I'm not paying 100 for those.
I own the Sunex 3/8 metric master set and I love it, especially for the price and no skips. I was considering buying the 1/2 Icon metric impact socket sets but they skip 24mm, so I might just buy another Sunex set...
The 3/8 Icon look great with no skips , the No skips are worth it alone compared to other brands . Ive been looking at them myself but thats my biggest thing, looking in person . Grey Pneumatic is great & Gearwrench Cr.Mo , just got some Sunex to try out too . There's some good selections for sure
Gearwrench and or sunex shallow and deep impact is what I think I would choose next, I have the pittsburgh 1/2 sae and metric 12 deep impact socket sets mine I have not used have about $14 each in both sets, not necessarily a fan of them missing so many sizes, but you can make do with them for the time being til you find the next correct option for you,I know they are durable because my buddy has had the same pittsburgh impact sets over 20 years and I have used them a bunch on ,4x4 trucks and farm equipment..
Grey Pnuematic is another choice for impact swivel socket sets.I have the deepwell and mid length versions of the Grey Pnuematic, have held up good. With Grey Pnuematic, warranty is void if bought on Amazon.Amazon including Ebay and a few more places online are not authorized dealers of Grey Pnuematic is the reason why.
ehhhh... I agree for the half inch, but for the 3/8 I'd prefer to have a more complete set. Hey thanks for stopping by the channel. Been watching your channel since you were in my recommended feed over the weekend. Love your content. You ever want to reach out to me maybe jump on the live stream this Friday with me and da boys Love to have ya on and share your thoughts further. Cheers brotha
Kobalt has a 55 Piece SAE and Metric shallow and deep impact set in 1/2 inch drive for $160. They also have 3/8 sets n SAE and Metric, but they are 10 Piece and have some skips for $50. Lifetime warranty at Lowes
Hi Justin, I got those Pittsburg shallow impact sockets and the swivel 1/2 impact sockets from hf, they are 29$ each set and works like high quality tools cuz to me they are high quality tools just very affordable, I haven’t tried icon yet I’m more a fan of Pittsburg, excellent quality video ty so much, Bob,
I have Pittsburgh for my standard impact sockets and Tekton for my metric impact sockets. I’ve never had a problem out of either. Also, for peeps looking for universal swivels, Gearwrench has you covered. 3/8 set on Amazon 8mm-22mm for about 100, and 1/2 set 10mm-24mm for a little over 100. Can’t be beat, but don’t know how they’ll hold up because I’ve yet to use them yet. Seem decent, and the ones I have are pinned like the snap on equivalent
The 3/8 drive wobble sockets impact grade matco truck are $300 and that is metric and it covers 8 to 19 mm and the chrome swivel sockets snap-on brand are also $300
All I can say is, I’m a pipeline tech. Been for 6 years or so now. I’ve been running the same set of pit. Pro impact sae that whole time. I’ve broke 1 socket. I use them everyday so for the 20-30 dollar price tag they are amazing in my point. But at home I have some icon in the shop. They seem nicer and I haven’t broke one yet either. So really when it comes to the impact of you want the name buy it. If not, just know I physically abuse these sockets daily, and they do not fail. Now the chrome sockets are a whole different discussion. Icon all the way compared to the pits.
I own set of Pittsburgh and man they are great! They kinda fit tight on fasteners until I broke them in but for the little money I paid I am VERY HAPPY with the Pittsburgh 1/2 Metric Impact Swivels. Think I paid 34.00 for full set 13mm-19mm
Been using the pittsburgh pro for a while now at work(going on a year of daily use) have had the same set at home for 3 years. So far been doing good. I do have a set of icon and they work fine but I honestly use the pittsburgh most often. I wouldn't bother with the icon for normal impact sockets.
I have the Pittsburgh Pro ⅜" drive swivel set. Mainly used for working on riding mowers. Have never had any issues with them. I use the standard that doesn't skip any sizes. As far as the torque wrench goes. Pittsburgh is crap. Icon is the way to go.
Totally agree, ive had good luck with the stuff i bought at hazard freight, nothing gone wrong, all tools got a limit and being a former lowes employee ive seen what is good and chincy I personally only use impact rated sockets for everything(1/2), ive only bought the pittsburgh 37pcs socket set, icons impact universal joint adapter set and torque wrench is a old craftsman/bought a older orange chicago electric mixing drill
Good to know. My Home Depot did not have any. So naturally I assumed the only ones I sold or the ones they had on the shelf. I have not seen any in the past or present. I’m wondering if it’s a regional thing or if it’s just store dependent?
Home Depot’s web-site has a much larger selection than any of the stores would have including a good selection Sunex & Knipex which usually can be delivered to your home for free
What happened to SK ( just broke my 9 inch 1/4 extension on on a hub bolt on a taurus ) but any way had a Pittsburg impact set for 15 plus years and upgraded to snap on probably for no reason cause they all still worked just fine but gave them to the nephew who used them to take out a 74 ford f100 motor without any problems.
I never knew how many tweak smokers were out there in Palm Springs until I lived there for 1 year and had to get tf out of there as soon as my lease was up!!! Even now there’s still a lot out there and some shady stuff going on lol
I have used both the Icon and the Pittsburgh Pro deep and shallow 1/2" impact sockets.Personally, if Harbor Freight offers "Lifetime Garauntee", why buy the expensive shit?
I have used the Pittsburgh pro Or regular Pittsburgh impact sockets cant remember which ones I got they came in a case with 1/2 and 3/8 anyways I've had them for about a year now and haven't had any problem with them. But Grey pneumatic has the best compete set of sockets ive found for reasonable i bought a 1/2 set from 10 to 36mm for around $116 off amazon.
I have the metric 3/8’s icon they are soft my 17mm is now 17.51mm I have the Pittsburgh pro 1/2 shallow and deep not bad for the price. I have been thinking about getting the universals from icon standard set only I have the gearwrench Xcore 3/8’s metric shallows they’re ok I’ve only had them like 4-5 months and they’re already showing some ware in the xcore part.
Since Pittsburgh has seemed to move to strictly laser etching, this matters to me along with the skipping, I've been looking at capri since they do both the laser etching and stamping, with a complete set. I don't know if the icon set is stamped or etched myself. But the capri set goes from 8-19mm for 99 also. Astro is another one I've been looking at to get with their 3/8 air ratchet (the onyx). On a side topic, maybe a bit off-topic, I've also been looking at the mechanics tool sets/kits and what annoys me the most is none seem to come with impact sockets. Which has led to me wonder why tool companies, especially those strictly online, don't offer a 'build your own kit' option? Take one of the kits they have, say the gearwrench 293 piece set, start there and then we can change/add/remove stuff as needed and the pricing adjusts accordingly. Because who really wants a 5th pair of pliers or crescent wrench or what not or another set of wrenches? I would like to see more options in the toolkit, especially impact sockets over chrome ones. Anyways great video. I also do prefer the local store shopping and going in and looking at things, but I do hate having to go to 10 stores to see all my options. I get why in some cases as pittsburgh, icon, kobalt, husky. But brands like gearwrench and tekton I would like to see elsewhere other than tractor supply, local hd does have a low selection of gearwrench though.
I agree. It would be a really cool idea if two manufacturers would make a mechanics impact socket set. Having said that I know you can purchase complete half inch impact socket sets I know you can purchase a 3/8 drive and half-inch SAE and metric impact socket set with extensions in Universal studio Ranch Jeff has one on his truck that I was looking at, but does not include universal joints. I think the reason why they have not made a true mechanic set and the impact rated is because the metal is of a different quality and they would not be able to offer you the same style or assortment as they could The chrome because the impact metal typically weighs a lot more so imagine a little plastic handle you pick it up and it breaking and landing on your toe. Next thing you know lawsuit 🤣🤣🤣 But I get what you’re saying. Yeah check out the Gearwrench 3/8 drive half inch complete set. I put some links in the description I don’t know that I put that one there though. I’ll talk to Jeff on Tuesday and show you guys on Cool Tool Tuesdays video
I did crack a Pittsburgh pro impact socket (completely due to misuse) doing dumb oil feild shit with a 3/4"impact with a 1/2" adapter at full ugga duggas
I have the Pittsburg 13 piece 1/2 deep six-point impact metric sockets 9 years including dealer technician and they have been fantastic. I have the Sunex 3/8ths swivel impacts and Snap-on 1/4s they have held up well as one would expect. If icon was making them at the time...oh heck yeah i would have certainly jumped on them for $99 (and not to mention there is usually a 20% coupon on Icon) then its $79.99! I know they are pinned and probably cheaper metal then Snap-off... but lifetime warranty for the Icons and look just like my Sunex (probably the same tool maker) and similar to the Snap-on design. I too would love to hear how well the icons are holding up if they are really good i might sell my Sunex on ebay just for the simplicity of warranty returns to HF.
I really don’t like snap on impacts. Like the small sizes have a long thin neck. But there so soft doesn’t take long till they just fall off impact anvils. But have had them from beginning of my career and still get them warranty so there’s that I suppose. Definitely got my money out of them.
I have the icons and The Pittsburgh's and have not had any trouble from either set but it is nice to have all the sizes . Ebay sells calhawk universals and look almost identical to the icon at about 30 percent cheaper . The part I don't like is the retaining ring for the pin in the icon and calhawk . It makes the socket bulky and hard ti fit in some places where the Pittsburgh is Slimmer . As far as box stores home depot cares the pinless universals in 3/8 drive I believe there made buy gear wrench . As far as bang for the buck astro tools pinless universal set or calhawk on ebay . I used armstrong and matco but had them for years . Another company is grey pneumatic or sunex there cheap on ebay as well and can pass for a old snap on design . I think the astro would be a good socket nice and slim profile especially when you're sneaking in a GM wheel bearing out but I tend to use a chrome one for that
Lol I just buy a set cheap then get the socket trays at HFT and buy the missing sizes at Menards or off Amazon. Just today I was going through my tools and my 12 point sockets are all SK but in the trays there were missing sizes because SK doesnt make them. So I went on Amazon and bought the Tekton ones to fill in. Odds are I'll never need a 4mm 12 point 1/4" drive but at least the spot isnt empty lol.
I have and use ½" deep impact Pittsburgh sockets Metric and SAE. They work great, no problems so far. Best $42 ish with coupons I've spent in a long while.
I bought Pittsburg 1/2" long metric impacts for a new guy in my shop, since I started with the same and they've lasted 6+ years. Within two weeks he was taking 17mm (or 19mm?) lugnuts off on a lift and the socket EXPLODED in his face. No shit he had bits lodged in his safety glasses. I guess the quality control is hit and miss? I still buy a lot of harbor freight but not jacks, not impacts, not things that can crush or explode. I'm a former combat medic, love your channel, you better believe I make guys in the shop wear PPE and it paid off big time that day.
also the 20% coupons 100 dollar set bring it down to 80 bucks even at that I'd say the best bet is to buy the icon if you didn't an you have the size they skip you needed u'll be more mad asn inconvenience maybe pressed on time to get something done an you don't have what you need only waist ur time spend the extra the first time
I just went out today and bought the 3/8 Icon and Pittsburgh pro SAE swivel sockets for work. I will be using the Icons for work and Pittsburgh for home use. I want to see what one is better.
@@Isaiah-ft5nx I am very very pleased with them. I've used a few of them really hard and they are holding up amazingly. They smoothen out after the first few uses and they don't wallow out at all.
@@Isaiah-ft5nx That's the ICON ones. I've used the Pittsburgh Pro and they hold up just fine to but I haven't used them near as hard or regularly as they are my home use vs my icon are work use.
It's great to save money but what happens when you inevitably lose a socket? None of the non rape truck (aka tool truck) options offer single socket replacements which leaves you either buying a different brand single socket or buying a whole socket set just to replace a single missing socket.
To be honest. When it comes down to it anyone that ends up selling it as an individualize socket versus the one that I bought that was sold as a set and does not sell individualize sockets I just buy the one upgraded socket and move forward. Now if there’s a way to buy that individual socket say husky craftsman etc. then I will do so or Buy from a big box store that does. If say for instance I bought it online then I will fill it with something from a big box store instead, If that is not an option, if not then I will buy it from a professional series tool truck
@@JustinDowDIYcentralhighway Yeah i hear you i generally do the same thing, just wish hf wouod get it together and start selling single replacement pieces for tools in kits. Have you heard anything about icon releasing mid length sockets or a regular set of extensions?
Great vid, as I’m looking for some 3/8 impact sockets as my next purchase. Nothing to contribute otherwise. But love the Dodgers swag. Hoping that my Cards aren’t out of the season due to Covid. 😭
I have sonex 3/8 7-22 mm impact socket set in deep shallow and sviwel paid $130 on amazon get 2sets one at home second at home if it brakes take picture they send you new one
I have Craftsman from just before Sears more or less went tits up. They have worked fine for me. At this point I would buy Pittsburgh pro if they had the sizes I needed.
Moster has on tool i would like to try out its a tool I saw Bruce Allen do video on, its the wrench extender, i could possibly use it since we do a lot of double wrench crap. I like carpi tools i have there ultra thin wrenches in metric and sae they work fine for the 85 bucks i paid for them
Honestly you cant beat the warranty just walk in and get a new one no questions asked the same day you break one you can get another easily, the amazon sets are nice and maybe cheaper but to warranty a socket is a hassle and will take forever and probably wont be able to in the end.
I have the Pittsburgh pro 1/2 impact sockets in metric, bought them 8 years ago I use them professionally at the Chevrolet dealership have yet to break one 👏
I broke 2 snap an still haven't broken a Pittsburgh pro
I've never had any of the Pittsburg impact sockets break. Only thing that could have been done better would be to stamp the size on the sockets better.
That’s why I got the non Pittsburgh pro because it’s ingraved
I had one swivel socket break but that was after a few years of every day use
I've only used the Pittsburgh Pro. No issues. But, the skipping thing gets my OCD goin in high gear. I've been lookin at Capri, Sunex, Grey Pneumatic, and others. I really hate skips. It really shouldn't bother me really, since I'm not a Pro mechanic. But it does.

I think on sockets it really is not a big deal to buy cheap

I bought a set of 3/8 sunex impacts from the USA tools truck, paid $200 for the set in the case, 7mm-22mm no skips, shorts, longs, swivels, a small extension, a bit socket adapter and a universal (swivel) adapter. Best purchase ever! Some of my 1/2" impacts are pittsburgh pro, have had them for years and still holding up good. For 3/8s nothing will replace my sunex set! 🍺
Was it a sunex set rebranded through the tool trucks or was it sunex? Im pretty satisfied with my set.
swivels too? I'm highly dubious considering just the sunex short sets are $200 at the truck. Maybe for $350+
@@philhunt1442 Yes, this was about 5 years ago. They were much cheaper then.
My buddy and me have the Pittsburgh wobble metric, work great.
Icon impacts are my go to I didn’t go Crome I only have impacts and none have failed as a diesel mechanic!!!
Just got my first icon tools. Short and long metric 3/8 Allen keys, and a bunch of 1/4 sockets. So far so good!
I said teky-ton at work the other day my coworker was like whaat? I was like ohh tekton sockets 😂😂
lmao Cheers! That's good stuff! lol
So much stuff at HF was useless like the socket rails that didnt work at all, my buddy game me them and said there garbage but Snap On is fantastic
That Sucks Brosuff. Hope you win a few up coming giveaways to replenish your box with. Cheers my Friend.
@@JustinDowDIYcentralhighway Yeah I helped him out and never heard from him and his wife again. It's all good though.
I use the icon 1/2 metric shallow impact sockets almost every day and they’ve been great so far.
I’ve been using the 3/8 icon for 5 months at my job and they have been great
Once again, Thanks Justin! I really need to actually step into our HF store. And check out the ICON line.
Thanks for sharing. I appreciate your feedback. Cheers!
I have both Sunex and Gray Pneumatic impact sockets. Both are great. I did pick up a set of the Pittsburg. They seem okay at best.
I did not like my Pittsburgh impact sockets. I ended up getting tekton. I have that for my chrome sockets too and so far I am glad I got the tekton.
I picked up the sunex 3/8 master metric socket set which includes the swivel shallow metric impact sockets I picked them up for around 125.absolutely love them and at a great price I might add
Hell Ya. Thanks for sharing your experience with Sunex Impacts. I’m seeing a lot of Technicians that own Sunex impacts and Love the quality and warrenty ☕️🤙
that's what I'm talking about I'm no professional person but also think about the storage also not having to worry about buying better socket trays cause you have to put swivel on the stick it comes with have to take time let them off an add more money an time then to buy the icon an use the tray they are loose inside no prying or anything is stuck an it's one hand grab situation I agree on the skip sizes I'll pay the money for big non skip items for sure
agreed.Cheers and thanks for sharing your thoughts on the matter
I have both Pittsburgh Pro and ICON impacts in metric 1/2” drive. Both sets work great, and beyond the aesthetics, there’s no discernible difference as it relates to quality. Both sets have been used with the 1/2 “ Milwaukee and they both deform about the same; not excessive. The tolerances are about equal as well. I’d like to se if there’s any difference in the wall thickness, but at a glance, I didn’t see any difference.
Good to know! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and opinions brotherman. Cheers!
Thanks Brother Tony. Have an enjoyable work week. Reach out to me on IG love to shoot the shit with you on the phone sometime 🍻🤙
@@JustinDowDIYcentralhighway thank you. Ya I can do that. Stay safe and have a good week.
Triple T. What up brother. I love both of your channels. Keep up the great tool content. You’ve both helped me tremendously. Thank you.
Rockin 🎸Roll! Teky Ton for da “W!” 🍻🤙
Well said & Glad you enjoyed. I always like to save a buck where I can, but the physical aspect is more appealing to me for sure. Cheers!
I have the sunex 3/8 universe socket no skips great sockets
I bought ONE 19mm Snap-On shallow impact socket, I've had it for only 7 months and its almost completely rounded out the drive side.I only use it about 3-4 times a day if that! Never going to buy snap-on sockets again. I got a set of sunex impacts and husky impacts and they hold up much better.
my snap on 17 deep impacts broke many times and the last time the truck was giving me a hard time about warranting it. the pittsburgh never broke.
Great video! Dang man great job. I am a bit jealous, I love how you just talk through it. Fast easy to understand and on point.
I work at a ford dealership and have bin using my 19impact for 6 months still in good shape bin hammered a few times
I'm a retired ase dealer and private shop guy I stated out with Pittsburgh's deep impact socket had them when I retired -a few I got that snap an mac an gp
Capri has just about taken over my toolbox, all of their impact sockets work well.
Great break down. Love the way you covered how much it cost to buy the missing ones and the type of the metal being higher quality 🍻🤙
Only icon sockets I’ve bought are the half inch hex sockets in metric. They have been taking a beating the 19 and 17 are holding up good
Good to know thanks for sharing 🍻🤙
I own the Sunex 3/8 metric master set and I love it, especially for the price and no skips. I was considering buying the 1/2 Icon metric impact socket sets but they skip 24mm, so I might just buy another Sunex set...
Sunex is a go to for the price
The 3/8 Icon look great with no skips , the No skips are worth it alone compared to other brands . Ive been looking at them myself but thats my biggest thing, looking in person .
Grey Pneumatic is great & Gearwrench Cr.Mo , just got some Sunex to try out too . There's some good selections for sure
I have the GearWrench Metric impact swivel in both 1/4&3/8 drive. Have not been disappointed yet!
Good part about the skipped sizes with Pittsburgh is they are the un-important sizes. (If there is such a thing)
Hi Justin, I got those Pittsburg shallow impact sockets and the swivel 1/2 impact sockets from hf, they are 29$ each set and works like high quality tools cuz to me they are high quality tools just very affordable, I haven’t tried icon yet I’m more a fan of Pittsburg, excellent quality video ty so much, Bob,
I prefer chrome sets. Reason being is that it is easier to find a piece if it gets dropped in a dark and hard to reach spot.
Drawbacks are they get floppy overtime and bind up during use
Good looking out 👍🏻
i have the metric icon impacts, i like the finish and they're look and feel great. im going to get the SAE set soon.
Sunex sockets are a really good option. Very affordable professional sockets that do not skip sizes.
After watching this video, I am about to pull the trigger on an SK swivel socket set.
Northern tool has a really nice 3/8 master swivel set for $100. It’s worth a look.
Totally agree, ive had good luck with the stuff i bought at hazard freight, nothing gone wrong, all tools got a limit and being a former lowes employee ive seen what is good and chincy
I personally only use impact rated sockets for everything(1/2), ive only bought the pittsburgh 37pcs socket set, icons impact universal joint adapter set and torque wrench is a old craftsman/bought a older orange chicago electric mixing drill
You can get those from homedepot. There's husky pinless and you can order gearwrench to
Good to know. My Home Depot did not have any. So naturally I assumed the only ones I sold or the ones they had on the shelf. I have not seen any in the past or present. I’m wondering if it’s a regional thing or if it’s just store dependent?
Or maybe they keep getting bought up before I can get there 🤣🤣🤣🍻🤙
The sku#1005143252 $59.97
Home Depot’s web-site has a much larger selection than any of the stores would have including a good selection Sunex & Knipex which usually can be delivered to your home for free
What happened to SK ( just broke my 9 inch 1/4 extension on on a hub bolt on a taurus ) but any way had a Pittsburg impact set for 15 plus years and upgraded to snap on probably for no reason cause they all still worked just fine but gave them to the nephew who used them to take out a 74 ford f100 motor without any problems.
Wow... Cheers to 15 Years Nice!! 🍻🤙
What do you mean "What happened to SK" ? - They're still around: www.sktools.com
Id recommend Sunex impact sas well as Husky from home depot, good quaility
Pittsburgh's pro has not let me down so i have not looked anywhere else, would look at texton brcuse the tools i have from texton are amazing.
Not to mention Tekton's online ordering gives you 10% back on your next order...
Chris G10 and free shipping! One has to pay a yearly fee to get free shipping from Amazon.
@@donaldhollums3278 How could I forget the free shipping?
I have the grip brand 3/8" swivel universal set. Has held up well.
I would go with the Husky. Its only a 7 piece set but they are pinless and strong.
I bought a set from orielly only thing I don't like it didn't have a 15 mm and stopped at 17 mm
@@JustinDowDIYcentralhighway Thanks!
I did crack a Pittsburgh pro impact socket (completely due to misuse) doing dumb oil feild shit with a 3/4"impact with a 1/2" adapter at full ugga duggas
_u 4 got 2 lube the socket to dampn the vibrations_
Sunex 3351 metric set, best value in impact sockets. It's not even close. They have a similar SAE set, I think.
I think the astro would be a good socket nice and slim profile especially when you're sneaking in a GM wheel bearing out but I tend to use a chrome one for that
Astro pneumatic makes pinless universals and I've heard plenty great things about them.
have the Pittsburgh impacts in the 3/8" & 1/2" drives, never had an issue....
I have the sk swivel metric set great set I almost bought the icon set but I got my sk set for the same price so was a easy choice
How did they do?
@@Isaiah-ft5nx I am very very pleased with them. I've used a few of them really hard and they are holding up amazingly. They smoothen out after the first few uses and they don't wallow out at all.
@@iowafox2206 thanks for the update! Is that for both the icons and Pittsburg?
If you just need metric. I bought the sunex 3351 set. 8 mm through 22 mm. Great set. From Amazon.
Rock ‘n’ roll. You know he can Custom make other baseball teams as well. Hockey, football, or basketball teams 🍻
Love your videos!
I have the Pittsburgh pro impact 37 piece set it has some Skip's init haven't had any problems out of it
Moster has on tool i would like to try out its a tool I saw Bruce Allen do video on, its the wrench extender, i could possibly use it since we do a lot of double wrench crap.
This will be interesting 🙂
