I am glad you find the videos helpful! There is also a playset for on 04 Rebel I am woking on which does cover some different repairs/maintenance. Good luck to you!
That big wide piece of flat rubber behind the cam cover and the bracket that holds it serves no purpose. I removed mine and tossed it. It just got in the way.
I have same make and model installed new battery and spark plugs, fresh gas, checked fuses and still not turning over. Got a carburetor repair kit and hoping for the best. What other issues should I look for that would prevent the engine from firing?
You need 3 things: spark compression and fuel. Verify that spark plugs are sparking. Make sure fuel is getting through the carb to the engine. Try putting a few drops of gas in the spark plug hole (if spark plugs are working). If it fires, then carb needs cleaning. If it is getting spark and it does not fire with gas in the cylinder, check compression .
Honestly, I was lucky to get it. I happened to be looking at Marketplace a few minutes after they posted it. I was the first to contact them, and then they got a ton of messages after that. I just made sure it started up and then off to the title place (30 minutes before they closed). Yeah, it needed a few things, but only 1888 miles.
Great info, deft what I need to see but i have a question, bought this from a man who took the carb out and cleaned it but when he put it back together, he put a fuel filter on it and hooked it up to a long line that it shouldn't go to. I saw the line in this video and it runs up under the fuel tank, you didn't mess with it and never mentioned it.....what is it and where is it hooked to under the tank (it's behind the petcock. Also know why it wont start now....
I believe what you are talking about is the vent tube. It allows air to flow back into the gas tank when gas flows out. It prevents a vacuum from forming in the tank which would restrict the gas from flowing into the carb. Maybe he used a fuel filter as an air filter, so that the air going into the tank would be clean? If this is the case, It should not prevent the bike from starting. If it restricts the air flow too much it could prevent the bike from running once a vacuum builds up in the tank. Open the gas tank cap and then put cap back on. This will get rid of the vacuum. The bike should start (if this is the only problem). If it eventually dies, you know the filter is restricting the airflow too much.
I am using the stock carb and stock jets. The carbs are a little different between the gen 1 (your 1986) and gen 2 (my 2002 or 04). Check out the Honda Rebel Forum. Lots of good carb info there. Most of it says stock is best for these bikes.
If it works, leave it alone. The original single carbs are pricey to replace. For some reason, the dual setups are pretty cheap on ebay, so people try to use the duals as a replacement. I haven't heard any success stories on the dual carb setup, but if yours is working, go with it. If it isn't running right, try to find a used single to put back on. The HondaRebelForum is a great resource if you need help. Check them out.
I am guessing you are asking about the swivel part, between the stem and the mirror, not where it screws into the hadlebars (if it s, let me know). There is a nut behind the glass of the mirror. It is possible to remove the glass and tighten the nut. To remove the glass, you have to work at carefully prying the gasket that surrounds the glass to get the glass to pop out. Alternatively, you might be able to spin the mirror on the swivel to tighten the internal nut. Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't.
How's it going? I have a 2003 honda rebel cmx 250, and I was wondering if you would know why I can't idle with the choke off? Everytime i try to take the coke off my bike dies. Any help would be appreciated, thx.
A carb cleaning is the most common solution. The "choke" is actually a fuel enricher. A choke reduces air flow. A fuel enricher increases the fuel flowing to carb. Gets the same end result, but by a different means. So when the carb jets and passageways start to clog, adding more fuel keeps it running. As soon as you turn off the FE, carb runs out of fuel and the engine dies.
@TheFixitShed thank you very much I had a feeling it might be that. Also didn't know the choke was a fuel enrichener, so thx for the info. Much appreciated.
It came with the bike. So I don't have much info on it. Label on it says MAIER USA. I don't have a problem with glare. I am looking over it when I drive, not through it. I talk about it a little more in this video th-cam.com/video/YGjTeas6mGs/w-d-xo.html
To remove the carburetor, you need a 10mm wrench for the throttle cables, and the intake nuts. A phillips screwdriver for the throttle cable bracket, the air intake hose clamp and the air box cover. A 10mm socket for the bolts to remove the bracket behind the carb. A 14mm wrench to remove the fuel bypass cable (which I incorrectly referred to as the choke in the video).
@@TheFixitShed thank you so much I’m in the process of getting my first bike and you making my life a lot easier appreciate you man and the biker community dose as well would you mind sending me what I’ll need to remove the front tire as well please I’m replacing a carb and front tire to get a neglected bike up and running that I snagged off my friend
The front axel is 17mm. The axel pinch bolt is 12mm, and a deep well 12mm might be good to have for the nut holding the innertube valve stem. Tire spoons may come in handy to remove the old and install the new tire. See Amazon link in video description if you need to buy spoons.
Lots. Took it apart, soaked it in chem dip, installed all new jets and gaskets. Had to do this many times, as I had a self-inflicted problem that I couldn't find. See parts 2, 3, and 4 (links in the description), or I also cleaned the carb on a 2004 Rebel, and it is all in one video. th-cam.com/video/GSCCUxzUxlU/w-d-xo.html

Very useful video . I wish I had seen it before I struggled with my Rebel carb !!
Thanks! Sorry to hear you had trouble. Hopefully it all worked out.
I love your channel, and videos about rebel 250 that you're doing!
Thanks, I really appreciate that!

Look at that carburetor man they can fit all sorts of stuff on those things. How much you get it for?
$1100

It's a million times better than EFI.

You're using a single PZ26 piston carburetor with a manifold. What main jet and pilot jet do you recommend using? It's a 1986 model.

All these models are with single carb.but my 250 is with dual carb made as a one unit. Your ideas pls. I mean advantages and disadvantages .thanks 👍

Where did you get your Windsheild, and how much was it,
I had a clear one, but had to remove it because of a horrible glare problem, does that one cause glare ?

Where is the tool kit located?
Access from the right side of the bike. Just in front of rear tire. Behind the battery. There is a keyhole to put the key in to open it.
what a pain in the ass to remove
There are worse ones
