  • Continuing work on the 2004 Honda Rebel. The throttle cables don't seem to be working as smoothly as they should. Time to lubricate the cables.

    Now I have something to do this weekend...
    I took my 250 out for a spin yesterday. After about an hour on the bike, it felt like I was sitting on a fence post, and not in a good way. Turns out, that seat was designed for 17 year old backs on people that weighed 125 lbs. So I did some research and bought a replacement seat from Corbin.

      Corbin should be a good seat. I agree, stock seats are not great for long trips. Let me know how the Corbin seat works out.

    Thank you so much for all the trouble you have taken to make all these videos on the Rebel 250. I bought a 1999 model a year ago and you have helped me so much to get mine in great shape . I have learned a lot from watching you do these jobs . Your vids are very well put together and explained . I love the Rebel and enjoy maintaining it.
    Best wishes from Thomas in UK .

      Comments like this make the trouble worth it! I am glad to hear the videos are helping you. I love the Rebels as well. Easy to work on and fun to ride.

    Thank you so much for your help and amazing videos. I’m doing this as soon as I get the oil because I noticed it takes a second for the throttle to go back to the normal position.

    I've got a 2006 Honda rebel 250 I bought brand new back then, still have it but it's been sitting off for like 7 years now, would like to get running again though and maybe pass on to my son, I'm sure it needs carb cleaned and stuff but I'm not motorcycle mech inclined! Cars/trucks but not bikes

      The Rebels are great for learning how to wrench on. Very simple. Single carb, air cooled. If you can work on cars, you can work on Rebels.

      @@TheFixitShed I realized after posting this comment that you actually have a vid on taking apart and cleaning the carb, which will be awesome help. 👌

    Thank you so much for this video series! I’ve been binging on it for my new bike! Do you happen to have a link or little video on the driver back rest you have… most places have the passenger sissy bar, but driver back rest info for the 250 is more elusive…. A little video on it would be greatly appreciated, and perhaps a good source to get one… Thank you so much and keep up the great work!!!

      I don't have a video for the back rest. It came with the bike and was not an exact fit. So I don't know that much about it. I don't think is was specifically for a Rebel. I have seen driver back rests for the Rebels on eBay. I would start there.

    Never notices cause who turns the steering wheel right, went to Harley place for inspection and failed due to the throttle binding when it’s all the way to the right. So will have to reroute cables and see. Not that it gets stuck it just doesn’t snap back in that postion

    Got a really stuck throttle that is hard to turn, and doesn’t snap back.

      My rebel is a 2009. Just picked up spark plugs, and I’m trying to figure it out. Thanks for your help!

      @TheFixitShed  29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      As long as it isn't a penetrating oil or solvent. If you use it, let me know how it works out

    What do you suggest for decreasing throttle slack?

    • @TheFixitShed
      @TheFixitShed  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On one of the throttle cables, there is a rubber sleeve covering the adjuster. If you slide that down, you can loosen the lock nut, then turn the adjuster "to lengthen the cable". Once satisfied with the slack, tighten the lock nut, and slide the sleeve back in place.

      Yes, any kind of oil is fine. I mention it at 3:30 mark. just not a penatrating oil like wd-40 or liquid wrench. I used bar and chain oil
