      It's really starting to drive me crazy that they all want to explain EVERY single thing in EVERY single drawer and cabinet. Even if they say just like any junk drawer in any average home... But then spend another 5-7 minutes listing everything that is in it to us!!
      So yes I agree completely with you!! This video was very refreshing and entertaining too!
      Cheers!

      I agree! And I like how he said "I'm not living in my van!" A lot of the van dwelling videos are getting too over the top, it seems. Builds like this (and other DIY'er jobs featured in certain videos) are refreshing because nothing is OVERDONE. I'd be totally happy camping in that van for a weekend in GA, which is exactly where I plan on doing most of my weekend camping. Nice job on the van!

    I don't get it. I see countless videos online of these budget builds. Jump on marketplace and all I see is vans 1/3 the quality, with 250k, priced at $6.5k+. I purchase vehicles constantly, and have never came across a g20 that cheap, let alone in that condition. Just purchased a 74 E100 yesterday for $5k, completely stripped and beat to sht. Happened to be a great deal.

      It's the van craze. I would say I was lucky and the guy I bought it off had no idea people were building vans. It was in his backyard for years.
      I agree though, I occasionally browse marketplace for fun and always see people advertising vans as "flips". When I sold this van, it was actually difficult to do so because all the work I've already done.

    How much power do you typically get out of the simple 1 battery and 1 panel setup?

    • @marcienne2775
      @marcienne2775  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With the 12v setup I never had a problem powering the vent fan, led lights, and charging my phone all night. I hooked up an inverter for my laptop and still didn't run out of any juice. If you were doing appliances, etc, I'd bump up the panels.

    Ayyyooo! Van looks tight son! I just bought a 94’ Chevy G20 as well. Two things, was any of the plastic old and brittle? If so how did you deal with it? And how did you refurbish the dash wood. We love the look of ours too but it needs some love. Thanks!

    • @marcienne2775
      @marcienne2775  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So the dash wood has some veneer on it. You have to that 80 grit sandpaper to it before refinishing with stain/oil. It looks weird but worth it after the stain.
      I didn't come across old plastic that was brittle in the interior of the van.

    No offense, my friend. This insulation b******* is basically what it is b*******You don't to insulate the Van. It does make a difference when it's winter. It's as reason in there. It was hot. It is hot in there. It makes no difference whether you insulated or not makes no difference at all.

    • @marcienne2775
      @marcienne2775  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I wouldn't know sinc either haven't truly tested it. I know the insulation definitely traps warm air in, which helps in the winter but you're right, it'll do the same in the summer. I think alot of people do it because cooling a van with an A/C or fan is easier and cheaper that installing a heater.

    • @skapunkoialternativeliving6522
      @skapunkoialternativeliving6522 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@marcienne2775 You could be right, but I don't know cause my compliment is fully insulated and there is a kind of difference but it's not fully a difference. You know summer time, it is hard as hell in there in the wintertime, it is cold and freezing if I don't put a heater on of course and I live back to my Van part-time I have a base and everything cause I don't wanna live app my mind full-time pop times good enough but each. Day on though, but you know I see some other channels able to keep saying that insulate the event and I was after the bunk. That it doesn't really make a difference, not really does it help a little bit more than a Van with no installation. I don't know cause I bought a new Van. Another man and 1999 and it has windows in it and it has no intellection. And it feels the same as my other van..

      G30s are awesome. That price sounds great too. If you just check the undercarriage and suspension for rust, especially if it's up north, check to see no chocolate milk oil or white exhaust (blown head gasket), or transmission problems you'll be fine. Parts are cheap, labor is free with all the TH-cam vids. Good luck.

      @@marcienne2775 I whip a diesel crew cab long box on air springs that tips the scale at 6,037 lbs. It has a pretty serious limiter on it. You can feel how much more it has to give, so it only tops out at around 97 mph. Be it a 2006 with 360 hp, and 650 lbs ft of tq, it's old, and probably doesn't put out that much anymore. If your van is topping out at 65, you probably shouldn't be driving it. Not just because it's old. Old cars aren't that slow.

      @@marcienne2775 Apologetics aren't necessary. It's actually only $150 for the compressor itself, and you can install it yourself for free. Evacuating the system is less than $100, and recharging it is only $200, ...if you don't want to do it yourself for free.
      A super easy mod, is getting a portable ac unit (not a window unit) from home depot for $260, and running it off your inverter. Another dope mod is taking the compressor pulley off the fan belt, and running it off an electric motor instead, which will yield better gas mileage as well.
      Here's the thing, "Van life" is a trend, but it really is just a neat car mod. You don't have to limit your van life to just interior parts. For chevy vans, which I like, I'm more critical of what people say about them, because people don't seem to understand how good they really are, and van life isn't exactly helping. Not only are people making them look bad with their apologetics, but they're not seeing the potential they have for car mods, which is what makes them such great vehicles.
      Every time I see someone with a G20, I appreciate them.
      Sure your van is cheap, but if it were fully built, it would be better. And If better is relative, then it would do all the things you said it doesn't do. It would be fast, good on gas, and have every convenience for van life. And possibly for even cheaper. No need to suck anything up.👌
      The thing about car mods is you know you have to do them yourself, because no manufacture will do them for you. Van life isn't even necessarily about DIY, it's just about getting into a van.
      Car mods allow you to be honest with yourself about what you like, and what you want. So you don't have to lie to yourself, or anyone else, or sell something as if it's not what it really is.
      So I hope you see that what you've stepped into is probably even better then how you've seen it.

      @@BelindaTOV Your van is older but all you have to understand is it's a chevy it's gm all their v8s are the same, they're interchangeable like camera lenses. Long as you have a 5.7 you're literally driving around with a corvette engine. The notion that these vans are slow is laughable to die hard chevy guys. Personally I feel like you both should skip the carb, get some LS engines, and stop being apologetic. 5.7l LS1 350/360 $2,200 6.0l LQ4 320/360 $1,000 6.2l L92 403/417 $2,500. Limitless options. All you need is a wrench. can't do that with a ford dodge or mercedes. Chevy pride man own it.

    I hope you live in a warm area. Reflectix has an R value of cardboard. It's not insulation it reflects sunlight and works as a vapor barrier if you take the edge as well. It's a slightly effective insulation if you give it a gap of half inch or more. But you didn't do that.In fact you'll get better insulation qualities from the wood you put over the reflectix and hopefully you did tape off the edges of it well enough that you don't end up getting moisture between it and the outside walls of your van. You'll rust out.

    • @marcienne2775
      @marcienne2775  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had a gap in the installation. If you glue 1/4 inch foam board prior to reflectix it give you the perfect gap before applying.

    The exact same Chevy in worse condition costs around 15k in Germany.

      They've gone up in price since people are flipping them. I've even seen ads these days saying "stock chevy van, ready for a van life flip" and listed for $6K. Kelly Blue Book is a random standard price reference we use here in the U.S, these vans aren't worth more than $2K

      Thanks! I'm pretty short so width wise was fine for me. It's about 72" across. And I cant stand since it's not a high top conversion. It's great for short stays.
