    As someone who makes Seiko money not Omega money and who loves watches, I can say homage watches are a great thing to have. There many quality companies with strong horological history that make fine homage watches. I have a Certina DS Action Diver for instance. From distance it looks very similar to the Brosnan Omega Seamaster but Certina has long history with the professional dive community. They made watches for both the US Navies Sealab mission in the 1960's and the Australian Navy, at $700 it's a great value. I don't have cool 90K to drop, so I also have the Steinhart Vintage Ocean One, which is an homage the Rolex Ref. 6538 that Bond wears in Goldfinger. Not exact but it scratches that itch. This WMT is awesome! If you love LALD and love that watch, then why not? It's a Seiko in a Bond costume but it's still a Seiko with some cool gadgetry. There are many great homage or alternatives to some of the more expensive Bond watches that have good horological histories. Seiko, Certina, Tissot and Steinhart are all quality brands that have watches that can be called homages to some of the Bond watches. If not close, then close enough. There's the famous Seiko SKX 007 for god's sake! (which I also own).

      I have a Certina DS and yes, the reason I bought it is because it looked a fair bit like the Omega Seamaster. I did consider a Seiko before finding the Certina as well, funnily enough.

      I have a Seiko SKX 007 and a Seiko SKX 009. Are you talking about one of those companies that make a homage to those watches since they are no longer in production or are you saying the SKX 007 is a homage to some other watch.

    I wore a Chinese homage of the Spectre watch for many years before I realized how much I enjoyed wearing it and saved up enough to buy the omega. Totally think it’s worth it if you are unsure if you are going to wear the watch or want something before saving up.

    “Frugal” is always a good part of your channel. I wanted a Seamaster ($5600) but instead of getting a Pagani ($130) I got a Longines Hydroconquest ($1500). Nothing wrong with homage watches it’s just important to keep quality and wearability in mind. Another idea for getting the look is by buying a black Casio Duro watch and slapping on different Bond NATO straps. 🤗🙌🏼

      I got the Casio Duro in black with the Spectre style Nato strap, it looks great and is a fantastic alternative for those of us who can't afford to splash out on an Omega. I was really pleased with the build quality of the Duro, top notch for its price point

      I've moved up the chain ( no bragging) from Pagani, etc. to Steinhart & a Certina DS38 ( the bezel is Omega Seamasteresque).
      I'm holding myself back from a Rolex or Omega ( actually, my bank manager won't give me a 2nd mortgage).

      @@jaysterling26 😂 anyone in a happy relationship has a “bank manager”. That Certina is really nice. To me anything around a $1,000 is great value and usually without the need to baby it. It also leaves room for one or two other watches for a change of color and/or style. Best wishes! 🙌🏼

      Truth! I put a Goldfinger RAF strap on my Casio Duro. I even put a "James Bond" strap (silver and black) on a Rotary Ocean Avenger watch I owned and it passes for the SPECTRE Omega Seamaster very nicely.

    I’ve never understood the hate towards homage watches. Whether you can’t afford or simply don’t want to spend on the watch an homage is based on, who cares? Aside the fact that it’s the individual’s money and therefore their business you touched on a great point, it’s fun!so fun that it made you sign off in a funny way! Hell, why not!?

  • @007Chancellor
    @007Chancellor ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I love homage watches. And it's not so much about not being able to afford a Rolex (I've actually owned many) but more about priorities! I just don't see the advantage of having tens of thousands of dollars in a watch! I sold my Rolex watches when the prices got ridiculous and bought Steinhart homages. With the proceeds, I've taken a lovely Rome vacation and a dive vacation to Jamaica - and still have plenty of cash left over! Love my Steinhart watches! But I GOTTA have this one to scratch my Bond watch itch! 🤣👍
    Really enjoy your channel - subbed.
    BTW - I visited Goldeneye in 1990- before it was so commercialized and modernized and changed. I have pictures standing in front of the blue brick and bronze pineapple-topped entry...and sitting at Mr. Fleming's desk! It was truy a pilgrimage to Mecca for me.

    This watch is a movie prop replica hommage. 🙂 As far as the NH35 goes, it's fine in a $500 watch. While inexpensive, it's a durable one and instead of having it serviced for hundreds of dollars you can eventually have the movement replaced at much lower cost. An NH35 costs maybe $40 and swapping the movement, dial, and hands takes less than half an hour.

    a bit too overpriced for me. I can build about the same watch for less than half the price. Also nh35 is a 35-40 dollar movement. They just took out the date wheel and replaced it with the red/white so instead of changing date it changes colors. Actually way too overpriced for what it is.

    This frugal Bond watch...has to be the ultimate Bond watch. I like this homage watch to LALD alot, the saw bezel alone does make it such a fantastic fun piece to own. Let the watch snobs out there moan. For me this is the business.👍

  • @guidoaliani4838
    @guidoaliani4838 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    This is just my personal opinion, so hope no one gets offended. To me this is quite “borderline” in the sense that, for the money, I would rather buy something with it’s own history or personality. For instance, if I was going to buy a watch that is “military” yet elegant enough on that same theme, why not a Hamilton khaki? Or why not some seiko 5 field. Of course the aesthetic isn’t the same of a submariner, but the theme is the same, at a similar price point of an homage.
    Ultimately the problem with homage is that, deep inside, you actually don’t want them. You want the original. So me personally, I’d rather buy something else, original.

    Homage watches are no more controversial than high street clothing brands that pay homage to premium designers or affordable cars that mimic the aesthetic of expensive sportscars. They're a fact of life. There is a difference between a Pagani Design or a Steeldive or a San Martin paying homage to Rolex or Omega with a high quality, well-made watch with a sturdy movement compared to an actual fake watch pretending to be a Rolex with counterfeit branding.
    The fact of the matter is most normal consumers are never going to be able to afford or justify the cost of an Omega, let alone a Rolex. Buying an Omega in Ireland or the UK will cost you the same or more than a downpayment on a house! Homages may lack the providence of the real thing, but they are a fun way to play make believe.
    Tbh, the watch in the video has a cheap press clasp and no sapphire crystal - Cronos, San Martin and even some Paganis offer far better for less.

    I love the urban gentry’s TH-cam! How cool you reference him.
    So I have some homage watches …. and I have some Rolex.
    (Full disclosure : I did buy a fake one when I was last in Vietnam (my volex) because watch thefts are a thing now in big cities. A $10k Daytona is a big old target. A friend who won one in the actual race had his stolen… so paranoia spoils some of the fun. Therefore, My Rolex rarely leave my safe. But I do wear the Stunt doubles.)
    And, try as I might, I just can not warm up to omega. They are totally legit and many of my friends have them … but they just aren’t my style. As much as I’m tempted to get a some bond variants - my bond was Connery - so Rolex is forever imprinted on my tiny little brain. (I think I’d prefer a breitling before omega, but that’s a discussion for a different day)
    Love your channel and love your videos.

    • @andrewharper4296
      @andrewharper4296 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s probably about right price wise. Stainless construction for example is not cheap. Luxury watch makers make about 60% profit on all the watches they sell (some much more). So apply that to something like this which is made by a small team, not mass produced and it’s kind of spot on. However I see they also make watches that are $1300+ and in those cases I do agree with you but 400-500 is ok.

    Thanks for this “reveal.” If you don’t have thousands to spend on a watch, but like the style, why not buy a high quality homage? So long as it isn’t a fake and so long as you know what you are buying, why not?

    It’s actually cool as hell. A little expensive for an homage watch; for $600-$800 people are able to buy the AAA Rolex clones that are just about 1:1 recreations of the originals. I love the red indice trick and the saw-tooth bezel, that’s a ton of fun for a Bond guy but I agree that for this price it would certainly do better to have a base Selita or ETA movement and some sapphire glass to peak through. I think they’re on to something though. Even if you can justify buying the actual Rolex, it doesn’t have the red indices or the saw teeth.

    I'm not sure why the homage watch controversy is even a significant part of the discussion here. This WMT is a clone of a heavily-modified (to the point of being inoperative as a timepiece), long out of production, Rolex-turned-Bond-gadget-watch that was never commercially available save for the one auctioned screen-used piece. One could even argue that the LALD watch itself is a parody of the Rolex 5513 it was built from.
