David the kind of guy who has an entire closet devoted to the same pea coat in different colors and fabrics. Thanks for being so thorough. No one else is going to put out this type of content. Love it!
I have this coat and it's wonderful. I wear it everyday. Just a recommendation for anyone looking to get one, go a size smaller than you normally wear. It will fit way better and look 10xs better
It's a great jacket! The pseudo military look of Bond's best outfits is what drew me to him as a style icon. The mix of practicality and hard-wearing design.
This jacket has never done it for me simply because I don't think Bond should have ever worn it. If Bond needs a peacoat (or duffel coat), it should have been Gloverall or another quality British brand. I also hope that we've seen the last spray painted Tom Ford suit on Bond and that Bond 7.0 finds his way back to a proper tailor on Savile Row.
But it has British Naval connotations, so he would have worn one, I'd have thought it would be a staple item in his closet, sorry, wardrobe. You can only blame DC himself for his choice of suits and choice to go with TF, he's pretty much a New Yorker now and seems to wear NY based high end brands in his personal life that he can also wear as a film character (Layer Cake he also owned that Dunhill leather jacket, though which came first, his choice to wear it or the films costume department? )
David is absolutely accurate when he says the Billy Reid Bond peacoat is a classic and gives off a military vibe. I recently was at an Apple store to get a new phone and literally within thirty minutes, while in the store, three people, at different times, came up to me and commented on how nice the Bond peacoat looked. It's a great coat and you "stand a little taller" when wearing it!
The Billy Reid Peacoat is nice, but I prefer the Private White Peacoat and/or Bridge Coat. They're also made in England, total no-brainer to be featured in future Bond movies. (You should look into this brand)
That's what I love about this channel/community, I always learn so much! Thanks for the Private White recommendation, just found a lovely jacket on ebay.
I have a Ted Baker Wool Peacoat. The inspiration wasn't from Skyfall, it was from what Bond wore at the start of Casino Royale as he was 'earning' his double OO status. I ripped my old Wool car coat in 2010(ish) and instead of getting a like for like replacement, I decided on a very dark blue wool peacoat. I believe one of the first Bond influenced sartorial items I ever bought with the exception of a silver Casio Royale watch a few years before, a homage to Roger Moore's watch in Octopussy. The first, not even close to being the last ;)
I love my current version of the Billy Reid navy pea coat. I’m sure the other previous versions were good too but hey we have no way of knowing personally.
I’ve got it in the dark navy and brown. Need to find a cashmere one, such a gorgeous coat. Love the new canvas one they released for spring this year too
Absolutely love mine! I got it in black because that's what was left but I would have gotten it in black anyway. 2nd best peacoat I ever had. The best one was my grandfather's original peacoat he wore when he was a US Navy captain during WWII.
I wish I knew about your channel back then - I searched and searched for that jacket when I saw Skyfall! You know the feeling you had when you saw the Casino Royale DBS for the 1st time, that's what I felt when he came up that escalator!
@@TheBondExperience I have one that was issued to me 30 years ago as part of my kit. It is a very tight wool weave. Still looks like the day I got it in basic. I wore it more out of uniform than I did in uniform😂 My wife picked up another one for me at a thrift store that was issued sometime in the 70s. They are great jackets!
Being frugal with my cash ( see name) I have a j crew peacoat &yes , I do wear it on assigments - to the pub. With the fur coat I'm thinking heavy gold chains , gold watches, flared trousers, baxpoltacion films, 70s cars (& their sometimes ( I'm told) dodgy/ sketchy salesmen ) & style - it would've been perfect for 'Live & Let Die'.
The Skyfall era was definitely when I got hooked on to your channel, but I think it was the Tom Ford midnight blue shawl collar tuxedo that brought me here initially. I can't remember when I bought my peacoat, it certainly isn't a Billy Reid, but wasn't what I consider to be budget either, but , I think it was around the time of Spectre that I bought it and is my go to coat from November through to March here in the UK. Yes it fits like armour too, goes with anything, and I don't see many other guys wearing them either. I have considered having a strip of leather properly sewn into the collar, it's a nice touch, but I do also wear the neck collars upturned when it's particularly cold and windy, proving their functionality as well as classic style. Mine is 77% wool and slightly quilted lined in the body but hasn't pilled at all on the outside. It's a coat for life as far as I'm concerned, and your channel helps us avoid fast fashion trends by sticking to the classics, and any budget can follow.
Last year I got the navy peacoat in large because I’m 6’3 and I wanted a length that would accommodate for my height but it’s never sat well with me how much room there is to spare being that I have a relatively lean build. I wanted to believe it’s not that bad but I’m pretty sure I want to replace it with a medium. Also I might go with black because I realized most of my pants are black and I’m just not 100% confident that a navy peacoat and black pants are the best match. Anyways can’t wait to see what they do next with this badass coat.
On the pea coat the best what I have found comes from a company known as & Sons. Thay produce a lot of what I consider to be stylish & bang upon their garment's such as Henleys long sleved T-shits, such an amazing style of garment's which do make you feel for want of a better word 'cool' . I have tried the Shcott NYC Peacoat, A Boss peacoat & what you get from & SONS cloathing is hitting all the point's that for want of a better fraise Make one feel both stylish.'Okay soap box rant'for the evening over & out.
I've got three -- one in dark navy blue, which, if memory serves, I bought when it was first re-issued following the release of "Skyfall," one in dark charcoal grey, which is my go-to winter coat here in Chicago (where you really do need a substantial cold-weather coat) and one in light gray, when I wanna look real fancy :} each with the wool/nylon blend and built like a tank with many years of wear and each holding up quite well. Love pairing them with shawl-neck sweaters and either my C&J Islay, original Skye or Tetbury brown suede boots.
I really dig that new waxed version! To be honest I've shied away from the BR peacoat only because I've got reservations about it not being lined at that pricepoint. That's not to say it hasn't always looked fantastic...I just wonder about the warmth factor.
I own a Nautica Brand Navy Peacoat. Love it. It is soft, much softer than the BR Bond one, but it is also a much lower quality. I reside in the Phoenix area. Not much need for a Peacoat here. Love the videos, David. Cheers!
I figured I would come straight to the source. I plan to wear this as intended. Basically a blazer but out of heavier fabric. I never layer and have read this most recent version is cut a bit more generous. Problem is with age and my hatred of cardio, I’ve got a dad bod. I’m a 44 chest and doubt I still have a 8 inch drop. Do I get the L or xL and take it to my tailor?
Love all of Billy Reid fashion and especially the Bond Peacoat. The coat is beyond amazing and love how Billy Reid has made even more levels of luxury of it. I love the Florence, Alabama store and the shopping experience there. Thank you for showcasing all of the Billy Reid Bond peacoats. Got to get a cashmere version.
Finally was able to get one around the holidays. Looks so dang sharp and sexy. Doesn’t keep me very warm and it’s hard to layer enough with the cut but I love it regardless 😊
Great video! While not a Billy Reid I absolutely love wearing my Peacoat! It was in fact Skyfall that inspired me to wear one! For some reason I think the waxed version looks better in the bigger size. Something about the material or something that still gave it that “Bond” cut. 👍🏼
David would you be willing to petition Billy Reid to remake the 100% wool peacoat and the cashmere version in their original cuts? I purchased my original Billy Reid peacoat because of your videos you did all those years ago! I own the 80% wool as well as one of each of the cashmere versions and I've looked for the fur version but I passed on it as I'm not a fan of black peacoats and the fur is a little too avant garde for me 🤷🏽♂️ Out of the 3 I own I tend to wear the tan peacoat the most because I prefer the slouchy nature of it and that it goes with EVERYTHING but the original one is the one I received the most compliments on. This week I got 2 compliments from women at my local Wegmans telling me how they loved my jacket 😁
Hi David, I wonder what you think of the classic Americana style? Pedro Pascal in the new Last of Us series wears a particularly nice jacket that's reminiscent of the RT Supply jacket in NTTD.
Yes. He’s wearing the Huckberry Flint& Tinder waxed jacket similar indeed to RT but a more generous fit and lined. I actually have both. But Billy Reid makes my favorite waxed trucker jacket. Cheers
Love this video on the coats. I have my eye on the new Waxed coat because I happen to have an awesome Gap peacoat and an Armani one as well that has a cool distinctive shell. I couldn’t justify to the Mrs another Peacoat unless it was vastly different. The waxed coat with the cool lining looks amazing. And it looked great on you! I do have a question. I know the waxed coat is similarly priced to the classic versions maybe slightly more expensive. I was surprised to learn about the cashmere versions. Are they similarly priced? Thanks for the awesome post! I have recently been buying some of Billy Reid’s other coats and sweaters on their great recent sales. I look forward to adding a variant of this coat to my wardrobe one day!
I got one off ebay for dirt cheap and I honestly believe its a heirloom piece that I can hand down to my son one day and it'll be just as stylish as it is now
I often thought at the end of Casino Royale that Craig in that suit and holding the sub machine gun was too much like Brosnans look. Where as from Skyfall onwards and certanly that black Coat is Craigs own look
Oh my goodness, I tried on the BR pea coat with the fur collar and I did the chin thing, too! Hilarious. 😄 Beautiful jacket and it really does make you feel special when wearing it.
I have a wool medium and the newer style small, the small fits so much better but wish they would bring back the wool. The only thing I don’t like about the newer style is the texture of the material. Also wouldn’t mind some more colors.
I’m quite lucky. I saved up, bought the Billy Reid version but also the Royale Filmwear version. It was in ‘21 and ‘22 so it’ll be the wool mix. However it’s a lovely coat. The Royale filmwear version is interesting as it’s lined and also very warm, whereas the Billy Reid isn’t lined and more "flimsy" if that makes sense. Sounds like a criticism. It isn’t, it’s just different and depends on what you prefer. I wear both and enjoy both. Lovely quality on the Billy Reid. Really nice details….and yes I got myself a pair of the leather gloves too. 😂
I like the 100 percent wool original...much better. Thankful I got the original one, when it came out. I would feel cheated with the wool blend version, if I had to get it today. Nope...won't spend the kind of money on it...for the mixed blend.

42 inch chest (And well done, toned and square chested just like Daniel Craig himself- something i'm still working on) and still buying small? How? I'm only a few inches more on the chest area and I pretty much have to go either large or in the case of my Barbour Skyfall wax jacket, had to send it back and order the XL. Because I couldn't do up the coat on the chest area, not even close to doing up, shame really as it was perfect on the shoulders and arm length.
im tired of billy reid not not taking the european market into consideration. tried to get one over the past 3 years and the only one that was available at european retailers was in xl. if you want to order one from europe at billy reid directly, you pay hundreds of euros in taxes. i mean look at rogue territory. they got it right with the rgt jacket. in germany there are several stores to get it at a fair price.
The original one probably looks and sounds the best version to have and wear. The cashmere one I'd be too worried to wear in case it got marked or damaged in some way. The fur one looked, well, not good, not good at all...
I have to admit I'm not a fan of the peacoat style ... I don't think Bond would wear one ... I think the actor Daniel Craig would wear one. Timothy Daltons beige bomber jacket in the living daylights is the ULTIMATE Bond sartorial moment.
@@HEATSEEKER00 Yep! The US Navy just stopped issuing them but it is still part of the official uniform. I am not sure about the British Navy but they did issue them for years and years.

Hi David, is the cashmere jacket 100% cashmere or is it a blend? I have the beige option and it seems to be a 10% cashmere, 90% merino blend.
So, is it the case that we can only buy the waxed, or the wool / polyamide mix now? Or is the cashmere one still available?
Alas, the cashmere was offered for only a limited amount of time.

im tired of billy reid not not taking the european market into consideration. tried to get one over the past 3 years and the only one that was available at european retailers was in xl. if you want to order one from europe at billy reid directly, you pay hundreds of euros in taxes. i mean look at rogue territory. they got it right with the rgt jacket. in germany there are several stores to get it at a fair price.
We have to get them over there!
10:48 Every single one of us when wearing a fur collar.......
I wore my pea coat for few hours and some couples went to divorce ! Lots of ladies love a fit guy with fitted pea coat
The original one probably looks and sounds the best version to have and wear. The cashmere one I'd be too worried to wear in case it got marked or damaged in some way. The fur one looked, well, not good, not good at all...
The cashmere is super strong. Not the typical cashmere.
The bond style is very "grey man" , I think that's why men are drawn to it
Is bond dead
Or is he alive
The jacket is great. The fur thing is super gay.
I have to admit I'm not a fan of the peacoat style ... I don't think Bond would wear one ... I think the actor Daniel Craig would wear one. Timothy Daltons beige bomber jacket in the living daylights is the ULTIMATE Bond sartorial moment.
He was a Navy man! He would have had one as part of his kit. I still wear my original issued Peacoat 30 years on.
@@RichKovars What kit ? You mean his uniform ?
@@HEATSEEKER00 Yep! The US Navy just stopped issuing them but it is still part of the official uniform. I am not sure about the British Navy but they did issue them for years and years.
@@RichKovars Yep what ?? Your saying Bond would have a peacoat as part of his uniform in the Royal Navy ?
@@HEATSEEKER00 Yes. It would be issued as part of his basic kit.
