I'm glad I ignored the horrifying comment in the beginning. I've never heard Chris Masterjohn and what a blessing he is!

I've been on keto for 1.5 years with incredible success. I eat mainly vegetables with a lot of fat and some salmon/sardines. I like red meat but I've lost the taste for it over time. I think that reason that keto is blowing up on the internet is that so many people are having incredible successes from it. Like "vegan", "keto" can literally mean anything -- 100% Canola oil is technically a ketogenic diet.
on the vegetable-based dietary approach that I've adopted, it's been absolutely incredible. From blood-markers, to skin conditions, to almost everything else, so yes, I tend to think that keto cures everything mainly because it has done that for me. It's always interesting for me to hear scientists, researchers and nutritionists tell me how that isn't really possible. Chris doesn't really do that, but he often seems to be pretty close to that line with what often appear to be some strong prejudices against keto diets.

      what are your daily macros?
What are you main sources of fat + protein?

    • @toddstuder7388
      @toddstuder7388 7 ปีที่แล้ว

Main fats: grass-fed butter, virgin coconut oil, avocados, nuts, olive oil. For protein, mainly sardines, salmon, grass fed whey concentrate protein power, and perhaps grass-fed meat once or twice per week.
I don't track my macros very carefully now but I'd like 70% fat, 20% protein and 10% carbs (basically all vegetables).

      Thanks mate!
What do you mean by "incredible success"?
      What benefits have you noticed?

Improved energy, improved memory/cognition, better hair/nail/skin quality, (my nails used to break a few times each week, and now they are like steel and they never break). lower
fasting blood sugar (from pre-diabetic at 106 to 72 most days now), lower inflammation (HS-CRP down by 100% in about 5 months), great lean muscle gains, and reduced hunger. Strangely, I don't find keto to be exceptional for fat loss (it's good for me but not great), but perhaps that is due to some lingering insulin resistance or similar reasons.

      Cool, thanks for sharing.
i've been trying it on and off for a while. my longest stint was 6 weeks .
Now it's only 2-7 days at a time, likely not long enough to "adapt"
But I'm also quite active, and after a lot of research, I'm probably just trying to force it - eg not enough carbohydrates for my activity.

Raw milk is so much better then the pasturized denatured dairy products. I drink goat milk and have to dilute due to the high fat and to many calories that put the weight on me. My goats are copper bolused and get minerals. But still think there is more that they need. Still out there on the perfect food. Am a 58 year old healthy woman with my teeth. Something here in the south which is unusual and the modern diet reducing mental capacity of the children. Maybe a reason to give this food to a population one wants to control. If you are to fat and stupid, then you are easily controlled... Most folks here could not walk the quarter mile to attack my farm. Am working on moving because this place will be a death trap if the SHTF and these folks are 24 hr from total RIOT without their junk food and social media! I have tried Keto diet as well but now it is so difficult to get into ketosis, I realized my body is not right for this and needs a bit of carbs. I grow lettuce, kale, collards, arugula, red russian kale and several types of Spinach on my nutrient dense, goat compost garden. My garden is into its 7th year of goat poo, rotted down to perfect black gold!

I've been trying keto after hearing of the benefits
    tiredness, training went nowhere.
I think some of these "experts" are overselling the benefits, especially for active people

My first 2 months on keto weren't great, and then it got dramatically better after that, particularly when I added IF but certainly even before that since IF was quite some time after for me.

If you choose your animal foods carefully, you can make sure that your diet has enough caloric room to include all the carbs that you need to sustain your level of activity. Organ meats, shelled molluscs, and eggs are the most nutritious. Fermented whole-food dairy is also good, if you tolerate it and have the caloric budget for it. Muscle cuts are unimpressive. Rendered fats, cream, butter, and ghee are the worst.
4 ounces of liver once weekly, ditto with oysters, and two eggs a day. You'll never need to take a multivitamin, and it averages out to 170 calories a day. Even on a meager 1700-calorie budget, it's still less than 10% of your calories.
