    Breeding good dogs is an art and not a science. Yet a breeder needs to breed consistent breed type using the AKC approved standard for each breed. Many people are against any kind of close breeding but that is simply ignorant and the fact that many breeders think this is taboo/incest breeding think of the human taboos against that. But breeds were created in the first place by inbreeding and creating very high-quality dogs involves intelligent line breeding.
    In the dog game those who criticize the system of line breeding far outnumber its proponents. There is a continual influx of beginners in breeding dogs, people who have never before mated one animal to another or made any study of the subject. In their ignorance they believe that mating two dogs with "pedigrees", especially if both are winners, or better yet, "Champions", is all there is to it.
    There's a multitude of breeders who refuse to take the time to make any study of genetics, who want only to breed dogs to sell and make money, and these have no interest in breed improvement through years of planned effort.
    Linebreeding increases the odds of homozygous genes. Two alleles at each locus, one from the father and one from the mother. It is designed to be used intelligently and with logic to improve a breed and all carriers of diseases need to be culled. It's impossible to breed only for a single gene. So you must use inbreeding coefficients originally designed as a mathematical formula in the 1920's, to take a measure of risk versus reward in your system. Some genes will be homozygous, and some will be heterozygous.
    The only way to increase the allelic frequency of a great dog is to line-breed.
    This video is focused on simple math in explaining the mathematics of linebreeding and inbreeding and gives historical context. It seeks that the viewer do genetic testing of all animals involved, to reduce risk and seeks to explain that pedigree-based COI calculations are nothing more than a measure of risk.

    Here's an example of heavy line breeding (but it's not inbreeding as explained in the video:

    Here's another example of heavy line breeding (but it's not inbreeding) that was used to set "type"

    For Ancestry Loss (AL) Calculations, would you take the COR percentage and subtract it from 100%?

    • @VonGontaHaus
      @VonGontaHaus  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      no Jose. The ancestor loss coefficient attempts to measure how few ancestors are repeated. It tries to measure the degree of un-relatedness rather than the degree of relatedness. So if the number of ancestors is say 62, an 2 out of 62 are repeated, then it's 60/62 is the ancestor loss coefficient. Here's an article on this topic:www.instituteofcaninebiology.org/blog/coi-faqs-understanding-the-coefficient-of-inbreeding

      Nice pedigree but it's not linebred. For some reason people call cousin inbreeding line breeding but it's not.
      That dog is Alex Vom Ebersnacken top and bottom.
      When you breed the same family you are inbreeding. Not linebreeding.
      I enjoyed your perspective.

      @@jaredleicht1656 Thanks for complimenting the video. Line breeding is indeed inbreeding, just more mild version, with the COI determines the degree of inbreeding. The lower the COI, the lower the risk, and the higher the COI, the closer to pure inbreeding it becomes. In pedigree shown, it's a 3-2 line breeding, am aunt to nephew breeding.
