Africa speaks about “social filter, context and reading the room”. Self censorship is a deep need to express something that’s important to you but out of fear you choose not to so that. That was my take😊

And this is where I’m at currently. God is moving and doing some shifting. He’s shifting me from a ministry that I’ve been at for a very long. It’s a family ministry (well my mom, aunt, grandma, cousins…attend there as well) So now I’m at place where I’m listening and feeling The need to get away from my familiarity. I wanna keep the peace because I know they’re gonna try to say some things to keep me there, but I can’t keep being concerned about what they will say I have to do it FOR ME.

Self censorship - I did an episode on my channel challenging the idea of fulfillment and I don't believe fulfillment is achievable in this life - I feel like chasing fulfillment is like chasing the wind - many people disagree though

This has been me for the past 27 years as a child no one paid me attention or interacted with, growing up the same happened at school, got bullied for being the quite scrawny ginger kid. But now I've healed myself of all those traumas I've taken back the drivers seat and saying things I never would have before. Feels so good a empowering. Go with your gut. Trust and belive in yourself. 🎉

I live in a bubble. I could focus on the loneliness but instead I have found that through my voice journaling I have connected so deeply with self compassion and love that I realized...there is no way I could say these things to anyone else and have them understand and completely accept my perspective. I know that isolation isn't good and I'm working to find my tribe. I spend so much time alone that I don't have the social filters most people do. I tend to tell the truth and say how I really feel about things because I'm so used to expressing my truth in my voice journals. I can't pose for pictures like other people. You gotta catch my real smile because I can't just put my hand on my hip and pose. I keep asking myself, is this sad or is it actually integrity? I dunno but when I listen to my journal and I hear myself say ' I love you...' it fills my heart like nothing else. I'll take that...🤗

Thank you Dr Rangan and Africa, I loved this conversation! With regards to how we approach others, I was taught in my culture that you always greet to acknowledge the other person (sawubona, a zulu greeting, directly translated literally means 'I see you'). But as I've interacted with others I've realised how much this is taken for granted. In fact, it seems to annoy a few people when you greet them, oh and then you ask 'how are you' and you see the frustration on their face because now they need to answer you...

Very impressed with this conversation. Thank you. It reinforces my own beliefs and what I make an effort to express in my community. I run a monthly poetry open mic night, and I encourage free speech - that means I encourage people to express their truth, but not in a way that is detrimental to others, and I say that if someone says something that you do not agree with, it does not now make them your enemy. Have an open conversation, be empathetic, be curious - what has happened in their life to make them think or behave this way. And, can you create a counter argument in a poetic, creative way? A healthy community does not mean you all have to be the same, think the same, look the same. Difference is a good thing.

And it's so interesting Africa, that you talk about your father in the same way that I talk about my ex-partner, he is an evil, abusive man, and has been convicted of atrocious crimes, but, he is always the best dressed, polite, charming, adorable man - I understand the path to his addiction, but I do not agree with it, and I am learning now to create my own boundaries to ensure I maintain my own goodness. I have much to write about....

But occasionally I comment about the world in general and some of these beautiful people turn every word I say into something other. Hello Rangan, hello Africa, still not through the talk and you are voicing so much of my thought already. I felt deeply hurt when a relative of mine who lives in a country where manners and etiquette seems to be still very important, at one time just stopped greeting and going right into the message in our WhatsApp exchange. That would be okay in an ongoing daily conversation, however it was hurtful when these greeting were just cut out in an occasional exchange, while at the same time, the greeting was still used with other people. When you brought up this matter it was a release and I can see it more as a potential general behavior rather than just another attempt of belittling. There are many other valuable nuggets and o definitely will listen to this conversation more than once. Thank you

I think the example Rangan gave of his mum making a comment about his weight is something that has been normal or common in many families and sometimes it might be meant as Rangan said his mum meant is as an expression of concern that he is looking after himself and sometimes in a way that is critical or demeaning or just some kind of judgement on a person "gaining weight".
I think we have all become alot more conscious about making comments about a person's body or weight but it was very common a few decades ago but I think intent is everything and Rangan knew his mother meant well.
I think it is a cultural shift though where we are more aware of eating disorders and senstivities around body image which 20 years ago or so we weren't.Cultures change and do not stay the same and what is and isn't acceptable change.

Perhaps discernment/social filtering is other-focused, while self-censoring is self-focused... analogous to the distinction between guilt and shame?

    • @upendasana7857
      @upendasana7857 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

"social filtering"is about thinking whether you might cause unncessary offense, harm or upset and self censoring"is more when you are scared or fearful you may find rejection or social exclusion due to expressing your true thoughts or feelings.

Hello and a huge thank you for your teaching 💕
I have a question : how do you feel when poeple stand up for you 🙏💕, staying polite and spot him/her out, with sentences like " I hope you don't build your opinion on that 1 min video... )
I don't say them, you do this or that, I presum they don't, guessing they do it.
When I have enough materiel , I use it to show they lie 😅
And I show my anger, for example : if it wasn't for the respect of the TH-camr I would talk to you with as much respect as you give.
Often after the last one they attac me 😅😅 and they'r done, because I send laughing 🤣🤣 and say how much I love to see my impact " with the case I had, he stoped Sending 🙏💕😅
    Would that help you ?
I did it for me, impossible to not stand up when a Troll puts down a person, Who's teaching made it possible for me to save my life and I can put intoo practice what I learned and how fast I was done with him, using the teaching was impowering and I hope made it easyer for my beloved TH-camr 💕🙏🐛🦋
Your both teaching are Amazing 🚀 that's how it speeds my healing, by put in practice and wire with my work and it does an unbelivibal numbers of times with lots of different poeaple and disciplines, for real I had no information against my work only complet it and I learn how to work better.... That's Amazing 💕 I got my informations through books, but there was not much at that time and far as clair, but helped a lot and my experiences, dreams ( sleep), observations, introspection, mirror effect 🎉🎉🎉❤❤

Some really interesting opinions voiced here, thank you as always.
I would be totally remiss if I did not point out to you that you can turn the comments section off if it bothers you seeing negative things said, because it will just continue to happen. The internet provides anonymity & a chance to get an often contradictory opinion across. More often than not as well if i have replied "rudely" it would be because you have said something that directly contradicts with something I have said & also given said ideas a chance to reach thousands if not hundreds of thousands via osmosis. Per example you love your Johnny Wilkinson story however the guy didn't suffer (in my opinion) & when I hear you tell his story as an individual who has had to deal with real trauma I get offended & should be given the chance to get that across to you.

Internet social media was an example. Unfortunately many of our experiences are in places where we can’t turn off comments like in the workplace. Selective freedom of expression where the individual setting the boundary is the labeled the aggressor.

Yes the book can be seen as a health book because I am in a narcissistic relationship with a husband who blames everything that goes wrong in his life on everybody else. His narrow minded views are forced upon me and he does not have the ability to understand other’s opinions. He swears he’s always correct and one day every one will see he was right. I’m not exaggerating here.

It's really hard to speak your mind and stay true to your beliefs in some work environments. I really hope that what I'm doing today, led me to that freedom.

Someone is always offended despite the intent.
