This message is needed in medical and nursing schools...as a retired NP, I never heard many of these facts on fatty liver diseases. Main treatment is which drug do we use...not understanding the cause, not how to change the diet. Thanks Rangan and Rober Lustig.
WOW! I have been working on these topics for about a year and a half, because of a bad medical diagnosis. I have probably read 18 pretty good books - Attia, Wm Davis Trevor, Agastin etc. - all good. But Dr Lustig puts it all together so coherently, I am in awe. I am reading both of his books currently.
About 15 years ago I saw Dr. Lustings metabolic presentation on Fructose to the University of California. It was, is and I suspect always will be the single most import health crossroads of my life. Thanks to this mans insight, I can chase my son around a park and swimming pool. Had I not discovered him, I doubt that would be the case today.
I also saw that presentation years ago and was able to take better care of myself and of my family. Probably one of the 5 most important presentations on health online

I was told by doctors that I had fatty liver disease…found Dr. Lustig and Dr. Jason Fung on TH-cam. Followed their advice and no longer have fatty liver disease! No sugar, whole food diet with 16:8 intermittent fasting! I have tried many different diets. This is the easiest way to eat. I discovered I had fatty liver 5 years ago after I did a liver cleanse. During the cleanse, one of the stones got stuck in my intestine for several days causing severe pain which prompted me to go and get a cat scan. During my wait in the waiting room, the stone passed but I still had the scan. After the scan, the doctor was supposed to call me within 2 hours to go over the scan, which he didn't, so I went back to the facility to get a digital copy along with the notes. The notes said there were no obstructions, but that I had an enlarged liver that they noted to likely be fatty liver. When the doc called me at the very end of the day, I didn't tell him that I already had the scan/notes, I just let him talk. He proceeded to tell me there were no obstructions and everything appeared to be fine, not once mentioning my liver. I thought that was weird, so I mentioned the liver and asked about it. His response was, "How did you get a copy?" To which I said, "I just asked for it." He was quiet for a few seconds and said that mostly everybody has fatty liver, and it is really not a big deal. I realized that it was not a big deal to him because he didn't have a pill to push on me like he always did or a jab to give to prevent it from occurring. Needless to say, now I have a host of awful symptoms that are related to my liver not being able to detox properly.
Bravo to getting the X-Ray notes! I too took charge of my PVNS hip disease.. it took 6 Orthopedic Doctor missing it and finally one caught my underlying disease. Otherwise they would have put an artificial hip on a diseased area.

If you have a fatty liver, my advice is to listen to this doctor eat healthy food . The liver rejuvenates itself and your fatty liver will go away. You don’t have to do nothing other than eat the right food.
Disagree. We need disclosure laws not banning laws. If you choose to eat trans fat you should be allowed just as you can smoke, drink and do 100 other things that are bad for you.
I don’t think you’re right about UPF being available in the eu, and GMOs can be used when approved , and they’ve approved one so far. MSG is also not banned, and we do use chemicals.
I guess they want to live. 😮I read my files after 5 surgeries last year and it said I had what is basically fat in my blood. So I’m sure it other places. It’s not a surprise bc after 50 years they finally found my Neuromuscular Scoliosis . I have many many other issues. I have Fibromyalgia, CFS, Anemia and so since November of 2018 I have been in bed! Surgeries were for 3 pinched nerves in the spine all 3 areas ctl , carpal tunnel R and facial basil cell carcinoma. I am getting better I use my toenails as an indicator. Glutethion and melatonin helps when one has aitoimmune illness and you never have more than an occasional dessert or glass of wine... IF you can metabolise it. Stay away from corn syrup also known as fructose. Fruit juices are unnecessary. Whole fruit is much better and veggies that help metabolism. ❤Great interview!

I am part of that group…I’m metabolically healthy. My ALT is 22 …the rest of my blood work is normal. I’m 56 and considered overweight. My waist measurement is 30. I grow a garden…. Eat fruits ,vegetables,meat….i cook homemade. I have occasional alcoholic beverage. Thank you for this video. Extremely informative.
I’m 63 don’t drink but do what you do my ALT is 38 but the last blood work I had I drank coffee with creamer so it probably would have been lower on the ALT. Waiting for my next bloodwork too come . My doctor was amazed at my good fat. My thyroid is low though. It’s impossible too lose weight. I eat one meal a day and eat melon in the evening. Works as a natural diuretic. I hold onto water.
@denisemiller8474 If your thyroid is low, even if your blood tests show normal ranges, you will struggle to lose weight until your thyroid (TSH in particular) is in the optimal range. Same story for me, blood tests were “normal”, but I didn’t make progress until I addressed the thyroid.
@@alina-xc1jd my blood work thyroid shows low thyroid. It hasn’t been normal for around 5 years. Doc put my on lovoxerine if that is how you spell it. I took it for a few years and estrogen. I had too quit the estrogen because your not supposed to take it over 60 years of age. That’s when I started not being able too lose weight. I had to come off the hormone meds because we moved away from my doctor. I started getting my anxiety back. Found a doctor and got back on the thyroid meds felt a little better. But something is way off . I don’t feel right. I got some magnesium and felt better till I ran out . Ordered some more and some pro and pre biotics we will see if that helps. My GFR is low and creatinine is high. So kidneys are struggling but could not take the medication the doctor gave me. It made my legs feel like rubber. Stopped taking it and I feel worse after I took that prescription he gave me. Its hell getting old and I’m only 63
@@fatimayahia3522 Dr. Lustog explains it at some point ... it's your liver function, or liver something. It tells you if you have fatty liver disease. "Normal" results are under 40, but he says under 25, or even under 20, is what you want.

Excellent podcast, I have listened to to numerous presentations by doctor Ludwig and each and every time I learn something new, this time he clarified de negative value on glucose index.
Dr. Lustig, I got a very stupid injury, about 8 years ago. And kept eating but became very much less active and ended up at 5”4’ and 212 pounds. I decided to do something about it, and fairly quickly lost down to 192. Then I came out of Covid and stress (( like having 13 people in a house designed for five )) among other things. And I came out of it, once I got my vaccines, I had become a Covid Long Hauler, and was also diabetic, had cancer, and a minor heart issue. I discovered you and your book. And also Jason Fung’s books. I now weigh 172, my ALT has gone from 28 to 16. My trigs are down from around 280’s to 212. My “good cholesterol is up into the 60s ( 66 last draw ). My diet consists of home cooked meat or eggs, fruits and berries, tea with whipping cream or plain Icelandic yogurt, and a bit of bread or Cheerios or the like. ( I relapse with ice cream under stress. ) I did try Keto without being able to stick to it after the first four months or so. Weight loss is slow. Long hauling (( PASC is a very slow recovery, far from complete. But I am very slowly “getting younger”. (( I am 77 !!)) Thank You Dr. Lustig !!! Your work is saving lives !!! But please get ice cream made with allulose into the grocery stores as soon as possible. I don’t think you need any regular sugar. I now think ice cream is really too sweet !! I am under very high stress- my daughter is dying of liver disease and can’t stop drinking. She almost died of end stage liver disease and esophageal verices last month. Last spring my grandfather was shot by an upset, most likely drunk young man in her Minneapolis, Minnesota neighborhood. She is recovering. In this situation, I have lost considerable fat from my butt and legs, as compared to my waist. (( sigh )) I doubt that I will be living with any less stress anytime soon. Some things diet can’t fix. Though, as per Chris Palmer, I do time restricted eating, and am therefore in ketosis some. I do think I do better with stress on the time restricted, protein first around noon, real food diet. Take dandelion root and milk thistle. My cousin had to have a liver transplant but avoided it completely and was taken off the transplant list by listening to me. Hes fine. But you need to stop drinking. It's not as hard as quitting smoking. You can do it . Get away from all people you drink arround and go before God on your knees and ask for help. He will help you , ut you have to pull yourself together and help yourself. I'll be praying for you❤
If you quit bread and icecream you’d drop more weight fast. Frozen yogurt would be better than icecream too. Or better still just the odd piece of dark chocolate if you crave sugar. Also look up the vax accelerating cancer. Best to not touch another one. That’s very sad about your daughter 😢 Sounds like she’s at the end stage of her alcoholism. My sister is gone because of it. So I well know he’s that’s like to deal with. Very hard. Stay strong you’re looking after you right now which is the very best thing you can do. It’s very true that we can only control ourselves. I really like Dr Lustig, but I think there is nuance when it comes to fibre. I think that removing fibre from foods that contained fibre is a problem, as those foods, which are plant foods of course, often contain sugars. But if you're not eating food that originally contained fibre i.e. animal foods there's no necessity to put the fibre back because they don't contain sugars and don't need the mitigation of fibre to limit the speed of absorption. I say this from experience of my own animal-based diet, carnivore if you wish, which I discovered and used for eight years. No fibre yet all health problems resolved including an autoimmune issue, psoriasis. Bowel movements were easy and regular. And in the case of my mum who I now look after, having removed all fibrous plant material from her diet her lifelong constipation resolved. Saying that the bacteria eat the mucus of your intestine if you don't give them fibre is something that is often repeated but isn't shown. In a recent lecture that I listen to they ran through all the literature and showed that this is not true and if this was true this would happen when people do fasting particularly extended fasting and it doesn't. And what about indigenous populations like the Inuit who famously eat little to no plant food? And Steffenson experimented with this when he had visited them by eating an animal based diet for a whole year and was healthier than ever, no fibre. What about the case of the carnivore diet eater who had been eating a mixed diet, had his bloodwork and microbiome checked and then went carnivore and on this so-called limited diet the microbiome became more diverse. Clearly, we don't have the absolute whole story.
I'm glad that you are not falling for his theories easily, as you have proven on your own example that some of his claims are nonsense. Someone who is a doctor can be wrong. And it's normal.
In February of 2024, my liver was poisoned by taking methotrexate for rheumatoid arthritis. I had been eating a lot of dried fruit, which may have contributed to my liver distress (because of the fructose content). Since my acute liver event, I have been avoiding fructose and other simple sugars, and I have been eating a whole food diet. The only fruits that I eat now are kiwis and blueberries. I don't know if dried fruit is problematic for people in general.

People don’t understand food….they don’t understand that that bread and pasta and cereal turn to sugar in the blood. If you are mostly sedentary you don’t need much of this. If you exercise everyday…your body will be able to process these a tad better. Moderation….people don’t understand what that is when it concerns food.
I did keto for few months back in 2019, but got bored of it and it was challenging. I did prolonged water fasts in the past (more than 10days). My doet fell off probaby like for many, arouns 2020. I watched Robert Lusting podcast some time ago. It made me go sort of low carb for 14 days now. Sort of low carb, meaning, I avoid carbs but if I have no other option I'll eat some pasta or potatoes, but no sugar in my coffee, no soda, mostly wholefoods. While I didn't lose weight as of yet, I do feel better, enjoy better sleep and have more energy. What's also nice is that I don't crave chocolate bars anymore and my taste has noticeably changed. I'm convinced that real clean keto would be healthier, I think that limiting carbs is a good way to start

Just have to add that as a Brit you can't just 'get an ALT'. You have to make an appt with your GP for it, and unless your GP has concerns about your liver function, they won't do it! As it's virtually impossible to see a GP these days without a long wait except in emergency, they're not going to use up patient time with a test they don't consider important. This is not the US. Private medicine yes, but the average person can't afford it.
You can ask for a general blood test that includes liver function test. And if you have the NHs app that documents your test results - you can login and find it there. Also known as alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and the number comes up here when I see my blood test results.
That’s not entirely true, if you speak to the docs (for us it’s by phone where we are) and would like the occasional check up they usually agree - if they seem hesitant state that you’ve been feeling fatigue and run down for some time. The ALT marker and many others are all checked within a standard blood panel/Full blood count they will order. Then Ideally go and pick up a print out of results to compare with any the following year or so. Any others we need we order online, which luckily is easy these days.
@@ktpuss Not here. Our few local surgeries have thousands per surgery on the books and many of the docs only work part time. Bloods taken at the local hospital. I know, I've experienced it for a TSH & T4.
In the U.S. it is just as hard depending on where you live. In some states you can go to a lab and have any tests you want. In states like NJ I need a doctor’s order and that is hard to get.
@@kateking3953 yes we’re with a surgery serving a very large village and surrounding areas which is why they don’t do a ‘walk in and wait’ service anymore, your place will have a protocol for speaking to a doctor though whether via online triage and a call back by a doctor, or triage by the reception staff; if anyone doesn’t want to or can’t do that just buy your tests online, a full panel of 7 markers is around £25 with one place I found…if you’re happy using the test kit yourself or are still concerned. One funny thing for me about this and good news is that I never much liked fruit juice or smoothies but forced myself to indulge because everyone was telling me how healthy it was but I never took very much. Hilarious to learn that fruit juice and smoothies are not so healthy after all. I never did like then that much! My instinct was right.
Read his book "Metabolical", it will make your jaw drop, it will change your life. It helped me get into shape by loosing 82 lbs. At 72 I still suffer from inflammation but now I'm working on it so I can feel young again. The way to do that is to forget about I only live once I'm going to do what I want. Yes, I'll have to give up stuff that I love but what's important? Not just living a long time but living a long time and having NO PAIN.

You have to be patient because so many of us have metabolic disturbances and as result especially insulin problems and that too causes some to have trouble. But, it works but you must give it time . Could take several months depending how bad you are. But it works for 99 percent. See Dr Berg , Dr Ekberg, and Dr Berry videos. Type in fasting , insulin resistance with their name. Keep it simple. Fasting must be phased in. Eat low low carb. Only green veggies but mostly fatty meat, salmon, sardines, butter, bacon. The fattier the better. It carries you longer while fasting. Mum 86y, healthy, one tablet for arithmia(caused by dehydration) never ate processed food. Myself 61y..obese the last 30y. Ten years ago I was on goiter pills, anti depressant and metformin.l got off medication but the damage is done.Six years ago started keto diet.lost 25kg.Arthritis in knees, abscesses in my body, not able to get fit. I live with my mum and see the difference everyday and spend my days warning my adult kids to eat and live like grandma.

Went to the dentist to remove 2 wisdom teeth. Went under sedation. Last memory was feeling the needle in my arm. My dentist said to me later that he never had a patient like me that went under so fast and said "You must have a clean liver".

Doctors in the UK don’t involve patients in their own care. In answer to any test we get it’s satisfactory. I’ve started paying for my own private blood tests.
58 5’2 119. My ALT is 14! My triglycerides 105, HDL 69, but LDL 204! Dr wants me in statins for the LDL (Im pretty low carb low sugar) -have no heart issues in my family until some after age 85 had high blood pressure. Mine is lower end. I’m thin . So I’m not taking the statin .
I’d like to know how long these people spend with their patients. We have a crisis in GP provision in the UK and yet there are so many doctors on TV, writing books, doing podcasts, one is even on Strictly this year. Yet they are failing to spot death nells like cancer. If people don’t know about the demon sugar and care by now, they never will. Enough! Get back to work else drop the “I’m an NHS doctor” status mantra.

Is non alcoholic fatty liver disease 100% reversible? If damage was done to the liver this way, is it 100% reversible by only eating real foods?? If so, about how long does that take?
Robert's product software sounds good. I'd also put the onus on the shops. Here's an idea for some clever techie and a supermarket that wants to set themselves apart from others by being more responsible. Customer's receipts could include details on how how healthy or not their purchases are. Total sugar content would be a good start including a rating according to health guidelines. Green for good, Amber for border line and Red for bad. It would be a start. The supermarkets have huge amounts of data on their products that could be used to educate and assist their customers to live healthier lives.

I read all the labels, and if it says sugar, any type of seed oil, or an ingredient that is not food, I don't buy it. Big food companies just want your money. They don't care how unhealthy their products are. They know that their friends at Big Pharma will take care of you.

Been following Dr Lustig for years and he has helped me to regain my health and be healthier than i can remember. Last 4 years ive ate "no prossessed foods" just whole foods higher protein and fats lower sugars and carbs just high quality animal foods veggies, fermented veggies and berries, its made me very healthy and strong ! Hi to both of you… my ALT is 14, my LDL Is 156, HDL 112 , triglycerides 41. Total cholesterol is 280! My WBCc is 3.3 any explanation about the low white blood cell count? I refused to take statins, my doctor keeps insisting. I am switching doctor of course.
My ALT from a few months ago was 34 and they said the normal range was from 10 to 50. I have been working on my health for a few years and will get retested next year.

How would a probiotic get past the stomach unless encapsulated? You are using circular logic, doc. Probiotics that digest fiber are only necessary when consuming fiber. All fiber today contains Roundup herbicide/glyphosate. Fiber containing glyphosate will always kill gut bacteria because this herbicide is also an antibiotic.

About 15 years ago I saw Dr. Lustings metabolic presentation on Fructose to the University of California. It was, is and I suspect always will be the single most import health crossroads of my life. Thanks to this mans insight, I can chase my son around a park and swimming pool. Had I not discovered him, I doubt that would be the case today.

I was told by doctors that I had fatty liver disease…found Dr. Lustig and Dr. Jason Fung on TH-cam. Followed their advice and no longer have fatty liver disease! No sugar, whole food diet with 16:8 intermittent fasting! I have tried many different diets. This is the easiest way to eat. How do you get a CGM if you are not diabetic? I’ve wanted to get one as I have a strong family history but everything I see says I have to have a prescription.

I discovered I had fatty liver 5 years ago after I did a liver cleanse. During the cleanse, one of the stones got stuck in my intestine for several days causing severe pain which prompted me to go and get a cat scan. During my wait in the waiting room, the stone passed but I still had the scan. After the scan, the doctor was supposed to call me within 2 hours to go over the scan, which he didn't, so I went back to the facility to get a digital copy along with the notes. The notes said there were no obstructions, but that I had an enlarged liver that they noted to likely be fatty liver. When the doc called me at the very end of the day, I didn't tell him that I already had the scan/notes, I just let him talk. He proceeded to tell me there were no obstructions and everything appeared to be fine, not once mentioning my liver. I thought that was weird, so I mentioned the liver and asked about it. His response was, "How did you get a copy?" To which I said, "I just asked for it." He was quiet for a few seconds and said that mostly everybody has fatty liver, and it is really not a big deal. I realized that it was not a big deal to him because he didn't have a pill to push on me like he always did or a jab to give to prevent it from occurring. Needless to say, now I have a host of awful symptoms that are related to my liver not being able to detox properly.
Bravo to getting the X-Ray notes! I too took charge of my PVNS hip disease.. it took 6 Orthopedic Doctor missing it and finally one caught my underlying disease. Otherwise they would have put an artificial hip on a diseased area.

It’s not a surprise bc after 50 years they finally found my Neuromuscular Scoliosis . I have many many other issues. I have Fibromyalgia, CFS, Anemia and so since November of 2018 I have been in bed! Surgeries were for 3 pinched nerves in the spine all 3 areas ctl , carpal tunnel R and facial basil cell carcinoma. I am getting better I use my toenails as an indicator. Glutethion and melatonin helps when one has aitoimmune illness and you never have more than an occasional dessert or glass of wine... IF you can metabolise it. Stay away from corn syrup also known as fructose. Fruit juices are unnecessary. Whole fruit is much better and veggies that help metabolism.

I’m 63 don’t drink but do what you do my ALT is 38 but the last blood work I had I drank coffee with creamer so it probably would have been lower on the ALT. Waiting for my next bloodwork too come . My doctor was amazed at my good fat. My thyroid is low though. It’s impossible too lose weight. I eat one meal a day and eat melon in the evening. Works as a natural diuretic. I hold onto water.
@denisemiller8474 If your thyroid is low, even if your blood tests show normal ranges, you will struggle to lose weight until your thyroid (TSH in particular) is in the optimal range. Same story for me, blood tests were “normal”, but I didn’t make progress until I addressed the thyroid.
@@alina-xc1jd my blood work thyroid shows low thyroid. It hasn’t been normal for around 5 years. Doc put my on lovoxerine if that is how you spell it. I took it for a few years and estrogen. I had too quit the estrogen because your not supposed to take it over 60 years of age. That’s when I started not being able too lose weight. I had to come off the hormone meds because we moved away from my doctor. I started getting my anxiety back. Found a doctor and got back on the thyroid meds felt a little better. But something is way off . I don’t feel right. I got some magnesium and felt better till I ran out . Ordered some more and some pro and pre biotics we will see if that helps. My GFR is low and creatinine is high. So kidneys are struggling but could not take the medication the doctor gave me. It made my legs feel like rubber. Stopped taking it and I feel worse after I took that prescription he gave me. Its hell getting old and I’m only 63

Excellent podcast, I have listened to to numerous presentations by doctor Ludwig and each and every time I learn something new, this time he clarified de negative value on glucose index.
Dr. Lustig, I got a very stupid injury, about 8 years ago. And kept eating but became very much less active and ended up at 5”4’ and 212 pounds. I decided to do something about it, and fairly quickly lost down to 192. Then I came out of Covid and stress (( like having 13 people in a house designed for five )) among other things. And I came out of it, once I got my vaccines, I had become a Covid Long Hauler, and was also diabetic, had cancer, and a minor heart issue. I discovered you and your book. And also Jason Fung’s books. I now weigh 172, my ALT has gone from 28 to 16. My trigs are down from around 280’s to 212. My “good cholesterol is up into the 60s ( 66 last draw ).
My diet consists of home cooked meat or eggs, fruits and berries, tea with whipping cream or plain Icelandic yogurt, and a bit of bread or Cheerios or the like. ( I relapse with ice cream under stress. )
I did try Keto without being able to stick to it after the first four months or so.
Weight loss is slow. Long hauling (( PASC is a very slow recovery, far from complete. But I am very slowly “getting younger”. (( I am 77 !!))

I am under very high stress- my daughter is dying of liver disease and can’t stop drinking. She almost died of end stage liver disease and esophageal verices last month. Last spring my grandfather was shot by an upset, most likely drunk young man in her Minneapolis, Minnesota neighborhood. She is recovering.
In this situation, I have lost considerable fat from my butt and legs, as compared to my waist. (( sigh )) I doubt that I will be living with any less stress anytime soon.
Some things diet can’t fix. Though, as per Chris Palmer, I do time restricted eating, and am therefore in ketosis some. I do think I do better with stress on the time restricted, protein first around noon, real food diet.

Take dandelion root and milk thistle. My cousin had to have a liver transplant but avoided it completely and was taken off the transplant list by listening to me. Hes fine. But you need to stop drinking. It's not as hard as quitting smoking. You can do it . Get away from all people you drink arround and go before God on your knees and ask for help. He will help you , ut you have to pull yourself together and help yourself. I'll be praying for you❤
If you quit bread and icecream you’d drop more weight fast. Frozen yogurt would be better than icecream too. Or better still just the odd piece of dark chocolate if you crave sugar. Also look up the vax accelerating cancer. Best to not touch another one. That’s very sad about your daughter 😢 Sounds like she’s at the end stage of her alcoholism. My sister is gone because of it. So I well know he’s that’s like to deal with. Very hard. Stay strong you’re looking after you right now which is the very best thing you can do. It’s very true that we can only control ourselves. Lustig is a genius. A fantastic communicator of the finest dietary science.
I really like Dr Lustig, but I think there is nuance when it comes to fibre.
I think that removing fibre from foods that contained fibre is a problem, as those foods, which are plant foods of course, often contain sugars.
But if you're not eating food that originally contained fibre i.e. animal foods there's no necessity to put the fibre back because they don't contain sugars and don't need the mitigation of fibre to limit the speed of absorption.
I say this from experience of my own animal-based diet, carnivore if you wish, which I discovered and used for eight years. No fibre yet all health problems resolved including an autoimmune issue, psoriasis.
Bowel movements were easy and regular.
And in the case of my mum who I now look after, having removed all fibrous plant material from her diet her lifelong constipation resolved.
Saying that the bacteria eat the mucus of your intestine if you don't give them fibre is something that is often repeated but isn't shown. In a recent lecture that I listen to they ran through all the literature and showed that this is not true and if this was true this would happen when people do fasting particularly extended fasting and it doesn't.
And what about indigenous populations like the Inuit who famously eat little to no plant food?
And Steffenson experimented with this when he had visited them by eating an animal based diet for a whole year and was healthier than ever, no fibre.
What about the case of the carnivore diet eater who had been eating a mixed diet, had his bloodwork and microbiome checked and then went carnivore and on this so-called limited diet the microbiome became more diverse.
Clearly, we don't have the absolute whole story.
I'm glad that you are not falling for his theories easily, as you have proven on your own example that some of his claims are nonsense. Someone who is a doctor can be wrong. And it's normal.

In February of 2024, my liver was poisoned by taking methotrexate for rheumatoid arthritis. I had been eating a lot of dried fruit, which may have contributed to my liver distress (because of the fructose content). Since my acute liver event, I have been avoiding fructose and other simple sugars, and I have been eating a whole food diet. The only fruits that I eat now are kiwis and blueberries. I don't know if dried fruit is problematic for people in general.

People don’t understand food….they don’t understand that that bread and pasta and cereal turn to sugar in the blood. If you are mostly sedentary you don’t need much of this. If you exercise everyday…your body will be able to process these a tad better. Moderation….people don’t understand what that is when it concerns food.
I did keto for few months back in 2019, but got bored of it and it was challenging. I did prolonged water fasts in the past (more than 10days). My doet fell off probaby like for many, arouns 2020. I watched Robert Lusting podcast some time ago. It made me go sort of low carb for 14 days now. Sort of low carb, meaning, I avoid carbs but if I have no other option I'll eat some pasta or potatoes, but no sugar in my coffee, no soda, mostly wholefoods. While I didn't lose weight as of yet, I do feel better, enjoy better sleep and have more energy. What's also nice is that I don't crave chocolate bars anymore and my taste has noticeably changed.
I'm convinced that real clean keto would be healthier, I think that limiting carbs is a good way to start
You're referring to simple carbs. Complex carbohydrates are still important, like those found in fruits and vegetables.

Just have to add that as a Brit you can't just 'get an ALT'. You have to make an appt with your GP for it, and unless your GP has concerns about your liver function, they won't do it! As it's virtually impossible to see a GP these days without a long wait except in emergency, they're not going to use up patient time with a test they don't consider important. This is not the US. Private medicine yes, but the average person can't afford it.
You can ask for a general blood test that includes liver function test.
And if you have the NHs app that documents your test results - you can login and find it there. Also known as alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and the number comes up here when I see my blood test results.
That’s not entirely true, if you speak to the docs (for us it’s by phone where we are) and would like the occasional check up they usually agree - if they seem hesitant state that you’ve been feeling fatigue and run down for some time. The ALT marker and many others are all checked within a standard blood panel/Full blood count they will order. Then Ideally go and pick up a print out of results to compare with any the following year or so. Any others we need we order online, which luckily is easy these days.
@@ktpuss Not here. Our few local surgeries have thousands per surgery on the books and many of the docs only work part time. Bloods taken at the local hospital. I know, I've experienced it for a TSH & T4.
In the U.S. it is just as hard depending on where you live. In some states you can go to a lab and have any tests you want. In states like NJ I need a doctor’s order and that is hard to get.
@@kateking3953 yes we’re with a surgery serving a very large village and surrounding areas which is why they don’t do a ‘walk in and wait’ service anymore, your place will have a protocol for speaking to a doctor though whether via online triage and a call back by a doctor, or triage by the reception staff; if anyone doesn’t want to or can’t do that just buy your tests online, a full panel of 7 markers is around £25 with one place I found…if you’re happy using the test kit yourself or are still concerned.

Read his book "Metabolical", it will make your jaw drop, it will change your life. It helped me get into shape by loosing 82 lbs. At 72 I still suffer from inflammation but now I'm working on it so I can feel young again. The way to do that is to forget about I only live once I'm going to do what I want. Yes, I'll have to give up stuff that I love but what's important? Not just living a long time but living a long time and having NO PAIN.

You have to be patient because so many of us have metabolic disturbances and as result especially insulin problems and that too causes some to have trouble. But, it works but you must give it time . Could take several months depending how bad you are. But it works for 99 percent. See Dr Berg , Dr Ekberg, and Dr Berry videos. Type in fasting , insulin resistance with their name. Keep it simple. Fasting must be phased in. Eat low low carb. Only green veggies but mostly fatty meat, salmon, sardines, butter, bacon. The fattier the better. It carries you longer while fasting.
More carnivore is keto.

Mum 86y, healthy, one tablet for arithmia(caused by dehydration) never ate processed food.
Myself 61y..obese the last 30y. Ten years ago I was on goiter pills, anti depressant and metformin.l got off medication but the damage is done.Six years ago started keto diet.lost 25kg.Arthritis in knees, abscesses in my body, not able to get fit. I live with my mum and see the difference everyday and spend my days warning my adult kids to eat and live like grandma.

Went to the dentist to remove 2 wisdom teeth. Went under sedation. Last memory was feeling the needle in my arm. My dentist said to me later that he never had a patient like me that went under so fast and said "You must have a clean liver".
So I've been destroying the insoluble fiber in the vegetables I've been blending and consuming in my smoothies for the past 45 yrs and it isn't benefiting my liver. Great
Lol same here. For years blending into smoothies. I still think the fibre is there at a certain level along with lots of vitamins. Im personally going to ignore that negative analogy of the net preventing fibre being absorbed. I’m still going to do it. I find eating fruit so boring 😅 I eat lots of whole vegetables too. I think both together still can’t be bad.
You're not destroying the fiber by blending it. No different from chewing it well or cooking. It's fine.

Doctors in the UK don’t involve patients in their own care. In answer to any test we get it’s satisfactory. I’ve started paying for my own private blood tests.
58 5’2 119. My ALT is 14! My triglycerides 105, HDL 69, but LDL 204! Dr wants me in statins for the LDL (Im pretty low carb low sugar) -have no heart issues in my family until some after age 85 had high blood pressure. Mine is lower end. I’m thin . So I’m not taking the statin .
I’d like to know how long these people spend with their patients. We have a crisis in GP provision in the UK and yet there are so many doctors on TV, writing books, doing podcasts, one is even on Strictly this year. Yet they are failing to spot death nells like cancer. If people don’t know about the demon sugar and care by now, they never will. Enough! Is non alcoholic fatty liver disease 100% reversible? If damage was done to the liver this way, is it 100% reversible by only eating real foods?? If so, about how long does that take?

Robert's product software sounds good. I'd also put the onus on the shops. Here's an idea for some clever techie and a supermarket that wants to set themselves apart from others by being more responsible. Customer's receipts could include details on how how healthy or not their purchases are. Total sugar content would be a good start including a rating according to health guidelines. Green for good, Amber for border line and Red for bad. It would be a start. The supermarkets have huge amounts of data on their products that could be used to educate and assist their customers to live healthier lives.

ALT and AST increase with exercise, so people need to not exercise for up to 7 days before bloodwork.
My ALT is 13, and I exercise 3 hours a days 6 days a week, so that theory doesn't work for me.

I read all the labels, and if it says sugar, any type of seed oil, or an ingredient that is not food, I don't buy it. Big food companies just want your money. They don't care how unhealthy their products are. They know that their friends at Big Pharma will take care of you.

on occasion might see their liver/creatinine enzymes up.

Been following Dr Lustig for years and he has helped me to regain my health and be healthier than i can remember. Last 4 years ive ate "no prossessed foods" just whole foods higher protein and fats lower sugars and carbs just high quality animal foods veggies, fermented veggies and berries, its made me very healthy and strong ! Everything checks out great !
Hi to both of you… my ALT is 14, my LDL Is 156, HDL 112 , triglycerides 41. Total cholesterol is 280! My WBCc is 3.3 any explanation about the low white blood cell count? I refused to take statins, my doctor keeps insisting. I am switching doctor of course.
Red yeast rice in capsule form instead of statins…look it up
My ALT from a few months ago was 34 and they said the normal range was from 10 to 50. I have been working on my health for a few years and will get retested next year.

How would a probiotic get past the stomach unless encapsulated? You are using circular logic, doc. Probiotics that digest fiber are only necessary when consuming fiber. All fiber today contains Roundup herbicide/glyphosate. Fiber containing glyphosate will always kill gut bacteria because this herbicide is also an antibiotic.
