Government data shows that there are more Nepalis than Gujaratis in the Army. And people have frequently targeted Gujaratis for not being in the army and therefore, blamed them for faking patriotism. But, there are various reasons for the lack of participation in the army by Gujaratis. These include historical as well as cultural reasons. And in the end, we should remember that we cannot measure a state's patriotism by the number of soldiers it send to the Army. Gujaratis contributes to the nation in many other ways. And in this video we look at the different reasons as to why many Gujaratis are NOT in the Indian Army?

Yes, we might be less in number in defense forces and yes, we are business oriented people but one thing is very... very... very clear that we are as patriotic as people from other states. I take pride in being an INDIAN and when it comes to patriotism we celebrate even the smallest achievement of INDIA.
If you doubt our patriotism by just looking at the number of people in defence, let me give you 2 examples very quickly who were Gujarati and equally patriotic. Dr. Vikram Sarabhai and Dr. Homi Bhabha, both were from Gujarat. So we have our contribution in other fields as well.

Bakiyo ka toh pata nai but when I was in dance class here in Mumbai almost half of my batch was Gujju and they were well versed in English 💀 which in turn made me my self esteem get lowered even more since I studied from a "semi-english" medium and half of them were from like CBSE or Convent schools (easily recognizable by the way they spoke)💀

my granfather has fought the 65 and 71 wars and was a retired Major , my father is a 2nd generation Army Officer who has served for 30+ years and is a Colonel and im aspiring to join IAF as well . I think your question itself is unjust to even think about let alone answer . Army is secular and it doesnt matter who you are or where you belong to . You should not judge someone's patriotism or contribution in whatever profession based on statistics and numbers and where they belong to either in Defense or others .

i am from rajasthan and my father is retired from airforce ..in 2008 my father posting was in vadodara gujarat , one day my father was coming to from his office work and my father was in airforce uniform and my father had an accident on the way ..wall gujarati business shop owners nearby people came running towards my father to help him ..they called ambulance and even did basic treatment on injury and after that they saluted towards my father and thanked my father for contribution in defence forces of india ...i am rajasthani but my favourite place in country is gujarat because of lovely and helpful people

I'm from Gujarat and I'm preparing for NDA. Infact I'm the only person in my school preparing for NDA and there r no coaching centres for NDA or SSB in my city. So yes seeing a person from Gujarat joining the military is a rare sight and I'm proud to be one of those few.

This is all due to some community of gujrat who have culture to do bussineess and the main reason behind this is that gujrat doesn't have any individual regiment, I am also gujrati but not from those community who likely to persue the family business and all. I am a gujrati rajput and as you mention most of the soldiers from gujrat belongs from rajput community such as jadeja, jhala, rathod and all. although my 2 uncle are army retired officer's and my 3 cousin brother are surving in indian army and i am also trying right now and the one and only goal of mine is to join indian army but due to the lack of vacancies for Gujaratis is the reason behind this all and we all want that government give us an individual regiment so we can get more chance.... You will find that Hindu/Sikh Jats and Hindu Rajputs are recruited way more than others. In fact, they have many single and fixed Regiment for them.
