    India has recently become the most populous country in the world. This means that one thing that we have enough of is population. But despite this, the state government of Sikkim is providing incentives to the people in its state- to encourage them to have more babies. Why is that? This is because the Total fertility rate of Sikkim has fallen to 1.1 which means that on average, a woman in Sikkim is giving birth to only one baby in her reproductive lifespan. This has got the government really worried because a TFR of at least 2.1 is necessary to replace the population at its existing level. A TFR of 1.1 would mean that if things continue the way they are right now, the population of Sikkimese people will be in danger. How dangerous this exactly is and what is the government doing to address that? This is what we will be talking about in this video

      @Audiophile-bx6ph Why do you think every woman owes a child to the country?
      It is their personal choice to have or not have a kid.
      Is it too much to ask for a peaceful 90 years lifespan, if that is THEIR definition of peace?
      Why does lineage matter so much? Do you even know the name of your great-grandfather? Why do you think your great-grandson will know your name? How is your existence better than mine then, if we both are gonna forgotten in 200 years.
      There are many research papers published that proves that marriage doesn't increase our happiness and difference between married and non-married people in terms of happiness is not there.
      If you want to breed, go ahead, be the next Vicky donor. If someone doesn't want to, let them be. Don't try to force your ideologies on everybody.

      fertility of 1.1 is shameful. Women are not contributing to the society by doing the thing that only they are capable to do. Men are not capable to have babies. In the shadow of feminism, if we face a human population crisis, I am not sure who to hold responsible for. Female literacy is inversely proportional to the fertility rate(objective fact, no strings attached).

    16:07 I am from Sikkim working as an IEC and a mental health counselor under Sikkim Health dept. We are told to encourage communities to have more kids. But I think this is here where the problem lies. The paid maternity leave for a year sounds really good but since the paternity leave is only for a month most men are out of their house to carry on with their lives just after a month leaving the child solely for mothers to take care. Mind you, most men are posted in a different districts and because of the terrain and climate they cannot work from home and have to live separately close to their jobs. Now this leaves women solely alone with the child with no breaks or turns. These are women also taking care of husbands family, with a child, alone. I cannot imagine how mentally frustrating that must be.
    By saying that it isn't like the husband doesn't help, most men here help their wives with house chores and taking care of the child. But because it's a systemic flaw they won't be of much help.

    Low population or high population both have bad effects on our future
    People need to understand that it is not only mother's responsibility to take care of child if the family is supportive and male partner is their to help then female can do both job and take care of child
    I think the pressure of both job and child is one of the major reason that female don't want to carry child

      Low birth rate isn't bad. See the more the girl children you bring to world the more lives you expose to misogyny which is almost inevitable and its in the air. So of women are having less kids then that means less lives will have to put up with this sick world.

      Yes. The sustainable fertility rate is 2.1 and it is also called the equilibrium replacement rate. We should aim to continuously keep our fertility rate around 2.1 forever.

    • @zetaforever4953
      @zetaforever4953 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@NityaStriker 2.1 fertility rate is not sustainable. It just maintains the population as it is. But the problem is, India's population right now is VERY poor. Our GDP per capita is $2k, compared to over $40k in the developed world. In other words, an average Indian consumes 1/20th of the resources consumed by a first world citizen. Hence we eat less (and lower quality) food, live in smaller houses, drive smaller vehicles, use less fuel and electricity, buy less clothes etc etc. If the average indian started living like the average American, the world economy and environment would collapse. Because there isn't enough resources on the planet to support that. Therefore, our population needs to be much lower than it is right now for our standard of living to rise to first world levels. And for that rise to be sustainable. Hence, fertility rate needs to go much below 2.1, but slowly and steadily. A sudden collapse (like the Chinese one-child policy) would obviously be disastrous.

      But why women need to do job. Just because foriegners say that. Something are just like a trend. These trend are not correct. There is always two side. Getting women work also has two sides. Its not like only one side is just correct.

    • @zetaforever4953
      @zetaforever4953 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      @@Shiva-zj6od for the same reason as anyone needs to do a job. If you didn't have a job, you'd have to rely on someone else to feed you. If that person got sick or injured, you'd both starve to death. If that person died, again you'd starve. Even if that person was alive and well, they'd have an inordinate amount of power over your life. If you lived your entire life on your brother's income, your brother would be able to decide what you eat, what you wear, where you go and so forth. Now, if you have an absolutely fantastic brother who loves you to death, that might not be a problem (though you'd still starve if he died). But if your brother was even slightly controlling or egotistical, that would lead to a very miserable life for you. Even stupider would be to bring a child into this miserable and precarious equation, which is usually what happens when people get married. Hence, don't risk starvation or abuse. Learn to feed yourself - both by earning the money to buy your own food and then learning to cook that food yourself.

      A sudden collapse won't be disastrous, China's economy was unsustainable from the start as were most the economies of the world.
      They are based on a pyramid scheme (they run on debt), they were designed when people were having more than 4 kids, so there was a surplus of young people, now they have started to run out of cogs.
      Now it's all based on demand and supply, and with less people the demand would go down, so the prices and supply would go down therefore less tax would be generated.
      So we need a new economic system.
