In the last twenty years, Bihar has been able to overcome the stereotypical image it was subjected to. Between 2006 and 2011, while the growth rate of other states (in terms of GSDP) was stagnating, Bihar’s GSDP was growing at double the rate it grew in the last 5 years.
But one problem stuck with the state even after this immense growth: be it in the manufacturing sector, or the service sector, Bihar was unable to establish industries. CM Nitish Kumar and other leaders from the state have asserted that Bihar lacks industry because it has no port. But Haryana, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, are also landlocked, and still have industries 2 or 3 times more than Bihar. So is it Bihar’s image causing it to lose out on industries? Well partly, but there are other contemporary reasons which are pulling the state down. In this video, we will discuss those very reasons..

This statement is so unscientific. How do you define "mentality". Are people from maharashtra have other DNA or alien genetics than people from bihar?
Public policies makes the difference along with sociopolitical structure of bihar. It is a feudal state with huge inequality.
Whereas maharshtra is well off because it is closer to sea.

I am from Hyderabad and we are repeatedly told by our elders about how much our former CM Chandrababu Naidu struggled to bring Wipro to Hyderabad. Hyderabad till then was like any other random city and there were no traces of IT in the city. People say the first step is the most difficult one. Bringing Wipro to Hyderabad was like moving mountains then. Even though I don't like Naidu much, I must appreciate him for bringing IT to the city. If not for his vision, Hyderabad perhaps would be a normal tier 2 city now. After Wipro, Infosys came to the city, followed by other smaller companies. The biggest impetus to IT in Hyderabad was setting up of Microsoft center in Hyderabad, later making it the headquarters of Microsoft India. Naidu personally went to meet Bill Gates in Delhi. According to some sources, he waited like a normal person outside Gates' cabin with a file in his hand and desparately convinced Gates to open a center in Hyderabad, giving him powerpoint presentations and telling him about future plans of the Government to develop Hyderabad into an IT hub. Gates was convinced and he was allocated huge amount of land just opposite the Wipro center. Today, the Microsoft Hyderabad campus is the largest Microsoft office outside its headquarters in the US. They recently opened a huge data center, further deepening their roots in the city.
Amazon recently opened their largest office in THE WORLD in Hyderabad. Google held a ground breaking ceremony day before yesterday to build their largest campus outside Silicon valley in Hyderabad. By the way, Hyderabad is also the Indian headquarters for amazon and Google too, like Microsoft. Apple is constructing it's center in the city to explore opportunities to expand.
And, Naidu is also responsible for the pharmaceutical industry too in Hyderabad. Hyderabad is an undisputed giant in pharma sector in India. Some call it the Pharma capital of the world (I know its exaggerated😁). The setting up of Genome valley, at the same time as Wipro opening its campus in the city, gave a huge push and an early start for the city in the pharma race. Now CM KCR is planning a big Pharma city along Southern outskirts of Hyderabad, with special focus on API manufacturing that would reduce India's dependency on China. Many companies already got land and are planning constructions there.
Why i am saying this is- if Governments are sincere, the impossible can be possible. Bihar Government is not sincere, that's clearly visible. Naidu too could have blamed lack of access to sea and wash away his hands. But, he chose to wait outside the gates of an industrialist with file in his hands and a vision in his mind for his city.

Biggest problem is Bihari mindset. Recently I was in my village near Patna where we were discussing the state of unemployment in Bihar. Most people in their 20s are of the view that Bihars job problems are because there are less govt jobs. When I asked them why they cannot work in private jobs there was a standard reply that work pressure jyada hota hai bhaiya, naukri ka koi bharosa nahi hota etc. I explained them how industries in Gujarat and Maharashtra has developed those states. To this an agitated aspirant said “Hume Bihar mai Adani aur Ambani nahi chahiye”. I laughed and did not argue with them. All of these guys were atleast 25 and had no real world experience. They all had a BA degree with no skills. No technical skills, no soft skills. Even if they are trained in a vocational course, they do not have the attitude to internalize those skills. This is a very typical mindset of Bihari youth. Most sensible ones leave Bihar and move to Delhi Mumbai Surat Ahmedabad and make a decent living. On the contrary in Gujarat I did not find a single gujju friend of mine sitting idle at 25. Some of them migrated to US, some started jobs, some went for masters and few of them started their own business. One guy started his own led bulb business in Anand and is making a killing. Everyone was doing something and earning themselves. And its not that they are not preparing for govt exams. I know people who got into GPSC while working in Ahmedabad. This is a fundamental reason I think is responsible for the mess Bihar is in.

And if no, then I want you to know that only two things you mentioned in your comment are correct - "Lack of Education" and also 'Patriarchy' ( though I believe that the problem of patriarchy is disappearing gradually ). But , the problem in Biharis' mentality and the problem of casteism is eradicating at a much faster rate. Kyuki jab jeena mushkil ho jaaye tab aadmi apne jaat ke baare mein nhi sochta, wo apne aap ke baare mein sochta hai. Tan usse lagta hai ki kisi bhi caste ka CM kyu naa ho, bas kaam accha karna chahiye. This mentality was clearly visible in last election in bihar. No one was willing to give vote in the name of caste, instead, they wanted to give vote to that party who will work for their upliftment. But sadly, Biharis' are not getting meaningful choice ( all parties are bad and corrupt).

I am from Jharkhand, which was a part of Bihar until 2000. I have visited Bihar multiple times and all the problems mentioned in the video are 100% factual. I had a few relatives in Bihar who were big businessmen and due to extortion, they had to flee to West Bengal and other states, as a few high officials threatened them with murders and kidnapping.
I feel so bad for Bihar and Jharkhand as well (which is better but not very much different from Bihar). The mentality of people really need to change. I have lived in many places in India now, and now going back to Bihar shows me how challenging it is to live there.

I had entered Bihar for its cheap labor before covid , had a lot of hopes but now I hate it to my core. We had a man who made a casteist slur at another employee and according to our policy we removed him. He then falsely accused our company of cruelty which we debunked with our Cctv footage, he then along with his family punctured the tires of some random cars outside our textile factory thinking it belongs to us. However this wasnt even the worst part, the worst part was when we filed an FIR against the man and a police officer literally came to our door step to persuade us to drop the case bcz they both were of the same caste. I have never experienced this kind of nonsense in my life! 2ndly, the people there are very hardworking but not sincere. In other parts of india we quickly delegate the operations to someone else and the factories work smoothly but in bihar people don't work properly if you're not keeping an eye on them. While I sympathize with their situation, bihar isn't a hill I want to die on.

Okay, first of all thanks for making a video on this type of issue. Being a Bihari I felt that I should also say something on this issue, I come from Begusarai ,Barauni which is the industrial capital of Bihar, there were many industries like thermal power, sugar mill, fertilizer center are there .People from nearby district also used to come here to find employment, but the goons of the Communist Party started factionalism here. There was an ambience of contradiction created among the people. Some industries started closing from there,
And then came Lalu's Jungle Raj government, in which big traders, engineers, industrialists etc started being looted or ransom was demanded from them, for fear of which no big industrialist started coming here.
Then came Nitish Kumar's government who divided Bihar only in the name of caste. In the name of General & Non General, bihar has been divided into two parts. Even nowadays people are compelled to find there employment in other state , the very important reason reason behind is the incompetent leaders of Bihar and foolish people like you and me who have elected them....hope you understand 👍😔

Bihar's way out is to develop high-end manufacturing industries, educational hubs using Nalanda card and promoting its history so that a positive and respectful attitude is developed towards the state.

    • @rishavbadola7357
      @rishavbadola7357 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

High-end manufacturing is not a viable solution because
      1) huge investment needed for sophisticated capital and machinery which nobody will do in Bihar given the vasooli reputation
      2) requirement of either very skilled labor which bihar lacks, or employment of sophisticated machinery which ultimately means not many jobs created
      3) tha Nalanda card isn’t a viable strategy. It’s been ages since the importance of Nalanda as a premier university declined. IITs IIMs and NLUs are the de-facto flagbearers of premier education in India now.
What Bihar needs is an organised cooperative for agricultural development and processing. Taking the raw agricultural material produced and processing them within the state itself to create value and jobs

How do you transition from Agri economy? You start with agricultural based industries.
You have lots of poor people? you provide good education.
You have lots of corruption? you make strong anti corruption department.
You have inequality? You tax the rich and provide subsidies to poor
You have caste problems ? You improve law and order and Justice system which is especially compassionate towards backward classes.
& You slowly use your tax Money to Urban infrastructure.
That's how it happens, but there are very bad incentive among the Political class to not do so.

      High end manufacturing ?
      Bruh.
High end manufacturing are very capital intensive and skill intensive, they will mostly go for stable states with friendly business policies, such as Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Haryana, Karnataka, Western UP etc.
Bihar should better focus on low end industries such as Textile, Plastic, etc.
      They can ace their.
These Industries are not very capital intensive, they are not very skill intensive, they also require huge amount of labours (which means more and more people will get job), also Bihar has tons of cheap labours.
Look at Bangladesh, it is developing on a lightning speed with just single industry of textile.

    5) There is a massive oil refinery in Barauni.
    6) SIS recruits a massive number of young men here, it was even founded in the state.

It's good to mention my district, Kishanganj. Many people need to know that in Bihar there's not a single central university. There's a lack of education, infrastructure, and silk workers.
Many highly skilled and well-off people leave Bihar. Land accusations in Bihar are one of the toughest jobs, and setting up an industry is difficult, but the current government is working towards the development and making many policies such as plug and play for enhancement.

Jharkhand gdp per capita 70000 approx bihar gdp per capita 51000 approx
Bihar rank 1 st while Jharkhand rank 2 nd rank in poorest state of india
In terms of literacy rate also Jharkhand is neck to neck with bihar
Aur yaad rakhna ye sab tab jab Jharkhand gives 40 % of the total minerals to the country.
So have some shame before making these statement kehte hai na apne gahr sise ke ho to dusro ke gahr pe pathar nhi marte. And better first read more about the freight equalization policy due to which even being a mineral rich state you are just a typical poor state central government is just exploiting your state and making other state developed.
