    Just got the GH6; I came from a Sony a73 (which is a great cam too). I think the clear button options on the GH6 is super refreshing: I use so much equipment and programs that I prefer a button option for nearly everything I need, it is just less to have to remember and adjust to. However I agree that workflow can be improved once your used to your camera. Nice review, and funny!

      if only the cameras could be consistent, and yes, I typically like clear labeled buttons as well, fast to learn as long as it works out, what I didn't like about the older Sony's was the exposure comp wheel and shooting auto modes, switching between photos and movies was a real hassle because of different compensations

    Thanks for the video. I have a G9 and need another camera for a secondary angle. GH6 would obviously be better to match the image of the G9, but would it be possible to use the Sony A7IV and get a similar look if I shoot in V log and S Log and put a LUT over them or am I better off just sticking with the GH6 even though I am unhappy with the autofocus of the G9 even on faster lens like a 1.7 or 2.8. Thanks

    • @CharlieVN
      @CharlieVN  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sony + SLOG3 + Phantom neutral has a close look to VLOG + nicest 709. there’s a simplicity with Sony in that there’s no boost mode to worry about, it’s good at all light levels. the boost mode on an off is annoying and Panasonic is more geared toward full manual control, while Sony is an automatic tour camera that works very well, not as clean of control compared to Panasonic. Sonys lens selection is on another level, it’s GAS inducing. for instance, the 20-40 f2.8 compares very well to the 10-25 f1.7, smaller, lighter, sharper, it’s disheartening knowing how much I paid for the 10-25 😅

      It really is quite good. The camera is very enjoyable. The most consistent flaw has been the ibis in pixel mode. I think I can replicate the problem consistently now, hope Panasonic addresses the issue in a future firmware.

    Hey! Great video comparison! I wonder if it's easier for you to operate the Sony because you're used to using it compared to the GH6. Would it be easy to use for someone who just started using both cameras for the first time?

    • @CharlieVN
      @CharlieVN  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it's not so straight forward. The A7iv has a newly designed menu, unlike it's predecessor, while the GH6 has a menu more similar to a G9, which I previously owned, and the G85 isnt that far off either. I have the sony preference mainly because of the separation and secondly the extra wheel. The audio button of the panasonic is something I've come to love, but almost always screw the pooch and hit it on accident, that top record button seems impossible for me to hit based on muscle memory, and I've put in about 40+ hours filming on location with the camera, it's not a small amount. By no means a "big" issue, they have different approaches, panasonic is more mechanical in a sense, and sony is more digital, would love to do more comparisons, just dont have the time, hoping that I can parlay the footage into future videos, but if it doesnt work out, then I'll work on proper comparisons.

      I probably have logged over a hundred hours this summer with the A7iv, outdoors, not even a warning, however, spending time in the menu can cause it to overheat 🤣🤣🤣. will probably consolidate gear a little, the GH6 will be my high framerate camera, and grab another A7iv (sell off Siii), like using them for different projects.

    • @dawgcanjumphigh
      @dawgcanjumphigh ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@CharlieVN I might grab the a7IV someday. The GH6 has a built in fan to cool down the camera when shooting long videos. The Sony doesn't and it'll overheat outside shooting these videos. I live in Hawaii and I have had trouble with my gear in the past when I film outside because of the sunlight and heat. The GH6 with the fan fixes most of this.

    @lanceevans1689 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you, nice presentation. I'd have liked to actually see the difference in image quality. Maybe you can do a follow up? Because all the other things are a coin toss or preference. But the quality of the image is the bottom line. Some reviews have said the difference is only noticeable if you do pixel peeping, and rarely if ever noticable to a normal viewer. Your thoughts?

    • @CharlieVN
      @CharlieVN  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Will do, definitely a thing I do on this channel, I will get to it as soon as I can, have some items to review first, this you can browse through my library for an idea of what’s upcoming, I can probably link to full projects done with the Sony compared to Panasonic in a future video. as of now, the biggest downside of the Panasonic is battery life, I do a lot of on location filming and looking for more batteries, I don’t like being tied down with continuous power. comparison to the A7siii to come after I’m done comparing the A7iv, those are the cameras I own and use.

    • @lanceevans1689

      @@CharlieVN Sounds great, thank you! I'd love to see a few comparisons between the GH6's 25mp sensor vs the Sony's full frame. I don't mind if there is an advantage to the Sony image. I would be surprised if the FF didn't give some advantage. My question is, how much advantage, right? Via the standard 25mp, so during daylight, low light, dynamic range and noise. And I understand Sony has a high res as well, but that it is done in post-camera software? Maybe a HR comparison, if that is of interest to you as well. Thanks!

    • @adrianpocea2287
      @adrianpocea2287 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dp review has a pretty accurate studio scene for video. The 5.7 k video of Gh6 blows out of the water and runs circles against Sony A74 in detail and sharpness. Go and watch it. For photos it's obvious that the 33mpx sensor is gonna be superior to the 25mpx one, but Pana has the high res handheld, which again beats Sony any day of the week.

    • @lanceevans1689
      @lanceevans1689 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@adrianpocea2287 Thank you Adrian. I will look for it. I'm not sure I agree that a 33 mp sensor will blow away a 25mp one. All else equal, I truly doubt anyone would see the difference. That 8 mp advantage is barely 1/3 increase. In my experience you need at least a 50% boost, and really more like a doubling of resolution to see the benefits of increased resolution. That said, yes, I am loving the high res mode!!!!

    • @CharlieVN
      @CharlieVN  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, thanks! Bionz xr changes everything. not only is it touch, it's a layered system that is very fast to access.
      panasonic has a similar water fall style menu, but there are a few things off. Cant scroll the whole menu in one direction, some portions make you go sideways. User/Starred at the top for sony, in the middle for panasonic, why in the center, when the top is easier to access? Cant toggle crop mode on a custom button, the way variable frame rate is used vs s&q? In the grand scheme, these are more nit picks than major flaws.

      If I'm in M for instance, I want to see that it's in video mode, as the settings are vastly different than when I'm using stills. Can you point me to a video that shows how to do this?
