Quick tip for multi piece rod assembly. They often don't have markers to align the rod. Put it together, use a paint marker and draw a colored dot to mark alignment
If you don't want to ruin your rod with a marker, use a sticker a small sticker is good. The sticker is good for just in case you don't like the rod and want to resell.
I worked in a tackle shop back in the 80's. I bought a four piece super ultra lite Eagle Claw travel set up. Still own it but it is retired. I have been looking replace it but other than Eagle Claw nothing is written on it. But now thanks to you I will try to find one of those daiwa's. Thank you for the video and the heads up on the rod.
Thought I recognized that lake! My dad took me there when I was like 10 years old and we caught 2 14 inch yellow perch somewhere like a few hundred feet south of where you're standing, which still holds the record for the largest perch I've ever caught to date! Ahh the memories. On another note, if you find yourself in the area in April (or around there), try bringing your canoe/yak out on the southern most launch. If memory serves correctly, straight out and to the left slightly there is a fairly deep (8 ft?) area with a bunch of weeds and lily pads sprouting, you can kind of see if on Google Maps if you look close enough. Throw some minnows on a bobber in there a few feet down and you can catch yourself a bunch of pretty good sized pike really fast. You'll likely find that you're the only one out there as well. The park gets crowded in the summer months, but in early/mid spring it's empty as can be.
I have this rod and really enjoy it. I am not sure why bait fisherman think the rod has to be single or at most two piece to have performance. Almost all of Flyfishing rods are multiple piece, 4 to 6 piece, and are higher performance then spinning rod. Diawa did a very good job with this rod.
Love all of your videos, they help me get through the Chicago Winters. I don’t get to fish too much in the winter here. Thanks for sharing every one of your awesome adventures!!
I think that I have just found my ideal ultralight rod; easy to store, easy to carry, excellent specs, good looking, and at a good price. I think that I will pair mine with a Daiwa QZ750 Ultralight Reel. Thanks, Eathan; you cemented my decision to get one.
Man I know what you mean by being cold cuz I froze my toes off for last week. My toes were so Frozen in my flip-flops cuz I had to stand outside for a half an hour trying to put fuel in my truck 🚛 early in the morning in 32 Degree temperatures. I had to put the heat on the floor to keep my toes warm. I wish my toes wasn't so wide & being straight across. Maybe I could find a shoe to wear for the winter so I clearly understand about the coldness. But I'm glad you still got out there and fish even though it's cold & you still got some fish so that made a good cold day.
I liked my first so much I just received my second of the 6'6" version. I normally go with two-piece rods, but I like the action of this in four pieces so much with the balance paired with a Lew's TLC2000 that I went for two. I'd rate it as a light more than an ultralight - but that's fine with 8# braid with a 6# fluro. leader. One for jigs and one with a swivel for spinners/micro plugs and I figure I'll be in kayak heaven for smallmouth and perch.
If you haven't tried using the measure feature on your Iphone, give that a whirl the next time you catch a decent gill. I used it recently, and it's pretty accurate.
I ordered this rod from discount tackle and sadly managed to snap the top off on my first outing. Had a snag, gave it a tug, and boom! Daiwa doesn't sell the parts. Hoping discount tackle has spares laying around.
Been out today using this rod for the first time on some smallmouth with a pins minnow,n got home to see this upload. Was meant to be.lol.Mated mine with a qz750,n 4lb mono. Was a blast.Nice Gill!
Since I live in the UK all of my fishing in the USA is done on vacation. So all of my kit has to be small enough to fit into a suitcase with clothes etc and light enough not to cause weight issues. Everything is a compromise and each item is considered by size, weight, how essential it is and whether my good lady will go nuts when she sees that I've only brought fishing gear and no 'nice' clothes! Oh well..........
Lol. . You mention the rod and I go to check it out on the link.... -SOLD OUT- LOL !!!! Oh well spring fish don't start till April 15th 2022 maybe some maybe in stock then.. You got me interested though. I'm still waiting to buy an ultralight setup. So 6 months to figure it out. Lol love the video. I'm waiting for my order from mule fishing to come into 🇨🇦 Canada.
Heck yeah Michael! Yeah I saw they were sold out before I posted the video. Supply chain has been all screwed up for the past couple years. Hopefully they’ll be available soon!
I don't do any of that style of fishing so I can't say for sure. However, I think it would work well for some inshore jigging as long as you don't need to cast too far. If you need long casting range, go with a longer rod.
just picked up this exact rod as mu UL rod, i wanted the compactness of it, i paired it with a daiwa fuego 1000D, trying to figure out what line now your videos are some of the best for UL info
Thank you! So glad you got this setup - it is awesome! I would suggest 6lb Daiwa J Braid or Spro Finesse Braid. Or if you prefer standard line, Trilene Sensation is epic too.
I'm looking for a 4pc UL and none that I can find are rated to 1/64. Would you err on the shorter or longer side to help casting the 1/64oz Mulies? Also sux, can't find Presso anywhere, I'll have to slum-it with the noodly Spinmatic.
If you go spinmatic, definitely go on the shorter side because the rod gets a little noodly and too thick in the longer lengths. I hope you can find a Presso because it is a dynamite rod. I liked the 5'6 but a 6' would be great too.
Great video brother! I love watching all of your ultralight videos especially. I admittedly am not a fan of multi piece rods, so your insight and opinion means a ton. I have two different 2 piece rods that stay in my Ram box but I've often considered something to pack in on a lengthy hike. Definitely will check this one out.
I typically prefer 1pc rods too but this one offers a lot of value to people who need something which breaks down and is portable. I have been a big fan of this setup for the price.
I know this is an old video, but I just got this rod today. I was wondering how do you store the reel and line when you break down the rod? Do you end up just cutting the line and storing the rod and reel separately?
I have a question, you said you're using mono line here but what is your preferred line? I set my dads Christmas rod up, a Fenwick Eagle with a flueger president 30 and 6lb trilene Fluoro and the thought behind the fluoro was that it would make hook settings easier. I just want your thoughts
I have really like trilene sensation for a co polymer. It’s low diameter but still strong. I’ve found fluorocarbon to be a bit more problematic in line sizes
@@FishAnything oh good to know, thank you, I was actually mistaken, my rod is 6lb trilene fluoro and my dad has 8lb seaguar fluoro, he's a very paranoid man when it comes to losing lures
What lures do you have in there just one of each? I see that you’re the owner of that company, I bass fish but want to get a little more into pan/ trout fishing too and already have a 5’6” Presso setup with a Daiwa Fuego LT reel.
I am not 100% sure what the weight is - might be able to find that on Daiwa's website or customer service. I will say that this little rod/case is probably as light as you will find.
Often wondered why rod makers don't put ruler markings on the rod. Would be pretty easy to do, but also an easy enough mod i guess. Paint markers for now 😬
I suggest you look at the reel's weight also. I find that proper balance is crucial to my experience. I put a 500 on a 6-6 rod, and the combo was tip-heavy. That same 500 on a different rod was superb. There is also a fair bit of variance among reel manufacturers when it comes to assigning numbers to various reel models.
Good points! I tend to like the 1000 because of the shallower spool that is wider. I find that smaller spools lead to a lot more line issues so I’ve been very pleased with 1000. Additionally, they seem to balance most of my rods very comfortably. Been meaning to try a few 500 reels though.
@@FishAnything I have an old quantum snapshot 500 on a 5 ft ul ugly stik. I've caught more fish on that combo than anything I've owned or ever will own. Couldn't kill that reel no matter what I did, until I took it apart to clean it and lost a tiny part. It balanced perfectly on that short rod.
@@FishAnything most definitely appreciate it. I decided to pull the trigger on the Gruv Micro Jig Box for my recent shipments of Mule. -Justyn Drummond.

Bro I just bought the 13 fishing silver after losing my Okuma celio with zephyr SFS finesse reel due to a big striped bass and now I’m tempted to buy this for travel purposes. You just know how to review a a UL rod bro.
I have owned a 13 Defy Silver 5-6 for about a month. Could not be happier. It is very light and sensitive, with great "feel" in my hands, and has surprising backbone for an ultralight. The Defy and my Celilo 6-6 were purchased based largely on Ethan's reviews. I'm new to UL, but have fished light tackle for a very long time. I found Ethan's reviews of those two rods to be very informative, and in my experience so far, quite accurate.
@@oldeschoolbob1022 Yup, Ethans amazing with the ultra light. Him and Rawr fishing but Rawr uses more ultralight BFS reels. I hope Ethan targets more trout on his fishing journey this winter! I love good UL trout fishing with spoons.
Thanks guys! Honestly, I think this rod is worth having if you plan to do a bit of traveling and want something portable. The Defy Silver is one of my favorites as well. I like it more than this rod but it is obviously less portable.
🤠 That spinning rod and reel combo you have there, most definitely looks awesome. Can you use it for trout fishing or is it just for small panfishing. Also great fish-catching there.

Hi :) I recently bought a 6' Daiwa Presso rod, can u recommend me a good reel for it ? (I was thinking about Daiwa Revros LT 1000 or Daiwa Legalis 1000)
Thanks for watching! Not sure I understand why my fishing style drives you crazy lol it is comfortable and feels right for me, so that is what I do :) I have tried fishing lefty but it just doesn't feel proper. Tight lines Phillip
@@FishAnything You're a fun little fishing trip. 🤣😂 Nice content man. Gonna pick up a Shakespeare micro because of you. I saw it in Walmart before I watched your video, and it looked tasty, but I couldn't pull the trigger. "Well, that's almost too good to be true", I thought pensively. WELL, IT WASN'T!!!!!!!! 🙃
That thing caught my eye too the first time I saw it. I think it is simply a third-party fly box with a Mule sticker on it. Looks like a great way to store them, though.
Yeah it is just a cheap fly box from Cabelas that I slapped a sticker on. I would like to sell a box someday but have yet to figure out the best design (or have enough money to invest into the project).
I have an upcoming vacation to yellowstone and need a travel rod.. I'm having a hard time deciding since I can only bring one... I just wanna do some trout fishing and have something that can fit in my hiking pack.. Should I go ultralight or light? I keep getting conflicting recommendations from buddy's lol
I would say it depends on the size of the fish you think you'll be catching. If the trout are 8-12" or so, the UL will be perfect. But if you think there is a chance of catching more fish in the 15-18" range, you might want to step it up to a L.
@Fish Anything I ended up grabbing a 5 piece diawa carbon case kit in 5 foot 6 light.. I might grab a ultralight presso too.. I got 1.5 months of fishing before my vacation so it'll give me time to try both out..
I am debating on getting the 7 foot or 6' 6' 4 piece version. The only thing I see is that I notice a few people saying that it is stiff and has a lot of backbone for a ultralight. Have you tried these sizes or have you noticed a difference in backbone from travel rod to 2 piece rod.
Right hand reel handles are like nails on a chalkboard to me, I don't knoe why. And i can only use right dide handles on baitcasters. It makes zero sense,
This is the only ultralight travel rod I’ve tried. I’ve heard mixed reviews on some of the others out there but I’ll probably try more in the future! Hope all is well :)
Quick tip for multi piece rod assembly. They often don't have markers to align the rod. Put it together, use a paint marker and draw a colored dot to mark alignment

You think it would be balanced good with a 1000 fuego?
Should feel good!!
I'm always looking for something under 25" so it'll fit sideways in my carry-on. 👍
Heck yeah! I have brought this on planes a few times and it travels super well.
Rigged and Ready Smuggler 5 breaks down 15".
Hi :) I recently bought a 6' Daiwa Presso rod, can u recommend me a good reel for it ? (I was thinking about Daiwa Revros LT 1000 or Daiwa Legalis 1000)
Both of those reels would be a good option! I plan to try out the Legalis this year whenever I can pick one up. I love my Revros :)
@@FishAnything thank you for answering :)
What reel ya like on there bud? Older video, link is broken. Looks like an older version of Laguna LT or or REVROS LT?
Revros LT 1000
I have 8-9 of them rods but it a two piece rod not 4 piece I love them I seen them on I-fish
They are solid rods! I had the 7-foot 2pc rod before but I didn't like it as much as this one. This thing kicks butt!
hello, great video, what is the throwing power of this rod please ? 🔥
What do you mean by throwing power? All of the specs should be online :)
What kind of reel did you pair with it
Any size 1000 reel would work great. I used a Daiwa Revros LT 1000
I thought about getting this rod. Its mostly out of stock.
They have been hard to track down over the past couple years!
Great video!
Thanks as always my friend :)
Great rod but you need to get a left side handle reel switching hands every time you cast would drive me crazy!😂🎣
Thanks for watching! Not sure I understand why my fishing style drives you crazy lol it is comfortable and feels right for me, so that is what I do :) I have tried fishing lefty but it just doesn't feel proper. Tight lines Phillip
"Holy smokes a pike just came and ate my fish!!" -Online Outdoorsman, circa 2021.
Lol this was honestly a fun little fishing trip!
Hey man I check you site and you don’t have that tackle box on there. Is it for sell?
That thing caught my eye too the first time I saw it. I think it is simply a third-party fly box with a Mule sticker on it. Looks like a great way to store them, though.
Yeah it is just a cheap fly box from Cabelas that I slapped a sticker on. I would like to sell a box someday but have yet to figure out the best design (or have enough money to invest into the project).
Glad your camera dried out…got skunked today on my local lake. Glad your fish are still biting.
Things are going to slow down drastically now that our weather is getting pretty dang cold!
Do you like it better than the St Croix UL 4 piece?
Haven’t used that one! I’ll have to try it out.
I got 1.5 months of fishing before my vacation so it'll give me time to try both out..
looks real cool
Solid little rod! No complaints :)
Present JK FISHING EXTREME
Nice fishing rod i like.
Where is the purchase link friends..?
In the video description. Thanks!
@@FishAnything confused how to buy it
Do you ship mule fishing Products to Canada?
Sure do! :)
@@FishAnything thx I just bought products today!
What size reel did you use to match the rod
Size 1000 is the bee’s knees
I am debating on getting the 7 foot or 6' 6' 4 piece version. The only thing I see is that I notice a few people saying that it is stiff and has a lot of backbone for a ultralight. Have you tried these sizes or have you noticed a difference in backbone from travel rod to 2 piece rod.
I used to have the 2pc 7-foot model and I didn't particularly like it. I would personally go for the 6'6 4pc out of those two options!
@@FishAnything Thank you! I will try it out.
are mule jigs sold in stores or just online?
What size reel did you pair with that rod?
Daiwa Revros LT size 1000! Perfect size for UL fishing :)
Can anybody tell me how this model rod balances with a BG 1500? I plan to use it for inshore and freshwater but worried it will be too unbalanced
Haven't used the BG 1500 personally but I can tell you the 5'6 pairs really well with most size 1000 reels so it should be fine I would think.
Is it durable or do you need to baby it?
It has held up to a lot of random big fish. I haven't ever felt the need to baby it.
Right hand reel handles are like nails on a chalkboard to me, I don't knoe why. And i can only use right dide handles on baitcasters. It makes zero sense,
I wish i could find this rod in UK
Any ultra rod you review is always sold out 🥺
Lol to be fair, I believe most of them are sold out before I ever launch a video. These dang things are in high demand!
I found it on Amazon in Rt now they only had 6.6
Been awhile dinkmaster - that's a cool rod setup. I like daiwa, any other recommendations for travel rods/setups?
This is the only ultralight travel rod I’ve tried. I’ve heard mixed reviews on some of the others out there but I’ll probably try more in the future! Hope all is well :)
Can I try it?
Yeah, they are available for purchase online!
What size reel is that
Size 1000
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! This guy is a fishing guru!
Thanks :)

Nice Rod UL for travel🎣
Thanks Bruno :)
👍
What’s a guy gotta do for some mule fishing swag bro?
It is all available online at www.mulefishing.com thanks Frank!
I don’t know him personally but that pike seemed like a real jerk…
That pike was quite rude
This comment is not intended to insult you or anyone but you look just like Brent from the TH-cam channel (Ghost town living)
Sounds like a pretty cool guy :)
What name your fishing rod
Daiwa Presso Travel rod (title of this video)
You really need to learn to reel with your left hand. It's much easier than having to flip the rod over every cast.
💯🔥💙👍
:) thanks!
Pric
Spent that time to cut not fish. Hippie
I don’t get it
Not sure I fully understand either :) Have a great day!
What size reel did you use with that rod?
Size 1000 has been perfect!
