    I gentleman by the name N G left a comment but the comment disappeared. He said the handle of a 11 footer broke off when drawing from the rod holder. This rod is NO GOOD for rod holders! You can see why. The blanks is very very thing and exposed, and is not even painted (paint will protect it). Then the split cork handle will always catch on the rod holder when u try to draw it fast in the heat of the moment. This entire rod is FRAGILE and I do not recommend it unless you take extreme care of your tackle. This is NOT a durable rod! This is a piece of art! You can't toss it in the bed of your truck!

      I have a 9ft presso and you're right. The cork bottom on mine became too soft and has crumbled. I had to cut half of it off. To me, its cosmetic, the rod still performs fine.

      Someone else ordered the 4 piece rod and told me he absolutely loved it. He makes all his videos with that daiwa 4 piece rod.
      HOWEVER, beware that the action on the 4 piece rod is very different than the action shown in the video. Adding all of these connections does stiffen the rod significantly.

    So happy to see another video by you. I really enjoyed all the rods. Crappie time is just around the corner!! The rods that have ridges are nice. I have some of those and it's a nice change from the norm. Although to get that they actually skip a step, smooth graphite rods sand those ridges off to save on weight. BUT, there are a few, Shimano Zodias is one for example, that applies a carbon fiber ribbon up and back down the rod on a 45 degree angle which adds a very classy look. They say it's to eliminate rod twist but I'm not sure if it really helps. I know you're a Daiwa guy and they have one like that as well. I'm rambling. Sorry. Fantastic video as always and we appreciate everything you do!!

      Hi, Casey! I said this rod is not for everyone but you should get one if u don't have one already. 7' or 7' 6. You are one of the people who can appreciate it and who can take care of his tackle. This rod is something else, it is pure joy and looks amazing.
      I have 15 ugly sticks and maybe 10 shimano rods and this I believe is my first ever daiwa rod. I am not loyal to brands and I think when it comes to rods the competition is FIERCE. When it comes to reels, there is no competition. You have Daiwa and Shimano. Nothing else. It used to be competitive, but right now its not. I honestly do not think daiwa or shimano are the best in reels, as I find them exactly equal. The only reason I have more daiwas is that they make more black reels. Shimano uses too much chrome and gold in general. But I do have about 20 shimanos still : )

    I'm the friend with the 9ft presso from the other fellow who commented today. I got my 9ft to fish in saltwater here in Florida. When ordering a fast action 9ft rod, I expected to come into the back pretty well and I was not disappointed. I got the presso after someone broke my 7'6 browning air stream, which I loved. That rod is so light, sensitive and recovers like a dream. I wish I still had one. It's really surprising to see you own both those rods and are comparing them here. Instant subscription. I used the presso in a video I uploaded today, and the one before that the 7'6 air stream made an appearance. Kudos man thanks for the comparison.

    FYI - I just received my new 7'6" Presso today from your link. Fine looking rod indeed. My only complaint is that most cork handled rods today come coated with that horrendous plastic! Difficult to remove, but I got it done, along with U-40 sealer (which I've used for several decades quite successfully). Now I just have to wait for the rest of the ice to leave the ponds so I can give it a whirl. Maybe another week or so.
    I've dressed this rod with a series 20 President filled with 2" test Fireline Crystal, ahead of which I've tied a 4' fluorocarbon leader. Same rigging as on my other 6 crappie rods. Should be a real crackerjack! :)

      No. They are very old. Too late now. They are good rods actually, if you are looking for a jigging rod. Better than the Presso because the blank is stiffer. But the guides are very small and be prepared to fish very thin line. Very fast action. Stiff in mid section. Good rod for jigging only, too stiff for other stuff.

      Never heard of a rod that should not be used in winter. All rods with small guides are no good in winter, because the guides clog with ice very quickly, and also line is stiff and can't go through small guides as easy.. but other than that i can't think of any reason not to. Really loving these reviews man!
    I have different tastes because I live in TN where I fish small water but regularly run into 9" + sunfish, 10" + rock bass, 12" + crappie, and smaller bass in streams....all with the same 1/32oz jighead and a 1.5" doft plastic crayfish.
    I already have a rod that I use for most float fishing....so what I really need is a jigging rod.
    You have just saved me a lot of heart break by ruling out the presso for that application. Thank you!
    You may have also just convinced me to keep the 9' rod in mind if I need a dedicated setup for long distance slip float fishing and wrestling big bluegill and crappie out of heavy timber. 🤔

    • @innovativeatavist159
      @innovativeatavist159 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ifishcatfish well I tried the b&m rod and I was significantly let down by it. It feels more like a moderate action light powered rod to me. It's thicker and maybe even slower than my St. Croix panfish 7' light and is much less sensitive than I was led to believe by the reviews. The reduction train is minimal and the tip top is larger than the running guides. It does have good casting distance and fairly good recovery, but that's about all I can say about it. I'll probably sell it.
      Gonna try the Sensilite now.
      I bought the Kage on your recommendation and LOVED it. Caught literally hundreds of fish on it for a month before disaster struck. The first several inches broke and split the blank even further on a hook set using 2lb test. Line wasn't wrapped or anything. Shipping it back to Daiwa would be over $100 just one way, and the model is out of stock with no backorder everywhere. It's now a short nearly ML rod, because of that extremely fast action you mentioned.
      So I'm kind of up sh*t creek. I'll keep trying and hopefully I can find something suitable for now while I save up for a JDM rod.
      If not, I guess there's always fly fishing for big bluegill with a 2 weight.

    Do you prefer the two piece or 4 piece? Do you know if it has an effect on the action? Why do you feel that the Shakespeare Micro is a better rod than the Spinmatic? I was seriously looking at the Spinmatic since I read some comments online that the action is a bit faster. I currently have tons of cheap UL rods including the Shakespeare Micro 7'6" which I find a little too soft. Would the Presso be a bit stiffer in the 2 or 4 or would I need to go to a Spinmatic? Also, why did you opt with a 2500 size reel? I use a 1000 on the 7'6" Shakes micro because a 2000 felt HUGE. Thanks for the great review. The Presso is the most beautiful and looks the most like those high dollar JDM rods that troutmagnetman uses on his channel.

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      4 piece does not have good action. It is stiffer and the bend is not uniform. it is only for travel.
      I have review on Shakespeare Micro as well, but my rod is LIGHT. Not UL. The UL is wobbly, but the LIGHT is not! The Spinmatic is extremely wobbly and out of control. Also guides are big and thick and clumsy. Presso is actually a better VALUE despite being more expensive.
      Not all 2500 size reels are the same. If you have cheal old reels, i would agree with you, because they weigh like a rock, and u don't want them on your UL. But the daiwa LEGALIS LT that I use (and other LT daiwas) weigh 200 grams. This is probably the same or less than the cheap 1000 size that other people use. So weight is not an issue. However spool SIZE is an issue for ultralight rods, because we always cast super light lures. To cast super light lure you need BIG spool, so the line is not curly, and comes off with less resistance. So that's why I don't go lower than 2500, ever, on ultralights. I can cast a 1/64 trout magnet about 25 yards with no wind. There is no way u r doing that with a 1000 size reel.

      8 foot is too long but if u fish from the bank and u need the distance and the reach... go for it. Otherwise got a little shorter so it doesn't wobble on the cast. The 6'6 model is actualy OK for jigging. Shimano Sensilite is great for jigging, but not as good looking. My favorite jigging rod is the 6'6 2 piece Fenwick HMX. Shimano Sensilite doesn't look as nice and has cheap guides, but it has really really nice blank, and is easier to find in stock. Performance is really good, just never grabbed my heart because of looks. Bass pro shops has a red colored rod that is a 100% replacement of the old Browning Air Stream, which was amazing rod. However i can't stand red color. But if it doesn't bother you go look it up, it costs only $60 and is good for both jigging and float fishing. But if u ever find a daiwa presso 6'6 make sure you buy it. I have several JDM rods and that rod feels just as good as any of my $300 rods.

      not with this particular color. Moss green is very invisible in algae stained water, which mine is all summer. If u fish very clear water u can put leader but even then u don't have to. I see people fish for crappie with high-viz line and no leader. This is a low viz line and the color is very natural - looks like weeds.. You should get both lines i recommended and use both. The mono will cast better when its windy. Braid is hard to cast in the wind and gets tangled all the time..

      if you are going to use leader on top of the braid, you might as well go with 10 pound braid - better for bass and accidental catfish. Also the 10 pound is on sales, while the 8 pound is not :)

    I'm a year late in discovering this review. As with your other reviews it is detailed and very helpful. I live in Japan and found that the Presso line of Daiwa rods start from about $200 and go up to over $700, so I assume that this version of the Presso is just for markets outside of Japan. For $70 the Daiwa line up consists of the Trout X series and for $100 there is the Iprimi line. Both of these appear (just from Amazon photos) to have a similar design to the US Presso, at least the handle stock is a similar size and shape, though not made out of cork. The Iprimi has stainless steel guides called "Oar SIC/KGuide" (オールSiC/Kガイド) and the rod blank has a carbon tape in an X braided design that is supposed to reduce twisting in the blank. I'm curious to know what your initial thoughts on the Iprimi line up, just from the following pictures. Might it be an equivalent or a step up or down from the US Presso? Thanks for your reviews! @@ifishcatfish It's a "Pseudo " ultralight from St.croix 6 foot 6 2 section. I never seen a thing like this. If you check only the rod you will find the balance about 6 inch from the cork. No way to balance that with a stella 1000 or 2500. So recently i buy the " Heavy " procyon al 2500 ( 8.3 oz ) and same with that we find the balance about 3 inch from the end of the cork. And already with the procyon al 2500 i don't feel ultralight anymore. I have another 6 foot 6 from St.croix here and that one balance easily with a stella 1000 and it's not even an ultralight.

    • @netrich143

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you can buy a 1000 size reel and simply glue two quarters to the butt of the rod. I guarantee it will drastically change the balance of the rod. And u will literally have a steel butt. Steel and some copper and zinc. Because you add the weight all the way at the back of the rod, you need very little weight to counter balance the tip. Maybe even one quarter will be enough. However in my opinion a rod feels best when it is slightly tip heavy.

    Get your hands on some Japanese blanks.
    Majorcraft GO Emotion GES-662UL 6’6” Ultralight two piece (Jigging Rod) hands down one of my favorite jigging rods, enough backbone for larger fish. Recovery time is excellent, unbelievably light. Pair it with a 1000 size Tatula LT and jaw drop.
    Majorcraft Benkei BIS-S65L SFS Solid Tip (Jigging Rod) my fishing buddies favorite jigging rod, very very light, great jig control.
    St Croix Panfish Elite 6’4” extra fast (just received, need testing but intended for jigging). I previously ordered the 7 ft extra but the recovery was not very good, this size is perfect.
    Kuying Teton UL 1.92 Meter, the one with the better looking handle (On order, waiting delivery, intended for jigging)
    Falcon Slab 7ft (Bobber/Float rod) I’ve jigged with this rod but it needs to be held at an almost 90 degrees to get the action you want, but for a bobber setup, it’s amazing.
    My first jigging rod was the GLoomis NRX 6’8” extra fast, probably still my favorite rod, light enough, very strong and very comfortable. But since then, I’ve let my curiosity kill me.
    Other rods include GLoomis Conquest 7ft (all around). GLoomis IMX-Pro 6’9” jerkbait rod spinning. GLoomis E6X, etc
    I just ordered the Legalis LT from your recommendation BUT I got the Japanese version that has a shallow spool AND slower gear ratio (5.2). I can’t really tell from pictures but I also think there’s no purple color on reel, black replaces it, or at least I hope.
