Great video as usual Eric! One thing I noticed that was also another nice throwback to the Postwar United States Marine Corps trains was on the caboose. The number on the side of the new caboose of #601750 is exactly the same number used back on the original caboose! So not only did Lionel pay tribute to the FA #212, they did the same thing to the #601750 caboose. Very cool that Lionel remembers their roots, and pays homage to the originals. I love it.

Outstanding new acquisition! 🍾 They did a great job and it looks and sounds amazing . It’s a very exciting time to be in the hobby. As always a great video Big Guy. Your work gets better and better. I don't even buy those post 1956 diesels. but those new FAs look NICE. Enjoy them. The original 1950 FAs were made to provide QUALITY dual diesels at a lower price point for their 027 line. A friend of mine got the 2023 Union Pacific FA set instead of the 2353 Santa Fe F3s because the price difference was big enough that it wasn't economically practical for the family. In 1955, Lionel made the 2243 A-B single motor F3 set for the 027 line. This came in a set which included the HYPER RARE 6468X BROWN B&O automobile box car. A cool bit of history.

I will add another observation. I am into the 3rd day of owning the Erie-Lackawanna road name for this set. I was surprised to see that the rail sounds speaker on the leading A unit is is
kind of meager, frail build quality, and on the small side. Narrow diameter. It is in a thin plastic casing, and at high volume it causes the shell to vibrate, annoyingly. What really surprised me is that all the rail sounds are significantly louder in my just $300+2023 Lionchief GP7, and my 2023 SD40-T, both of which are substantially less expensive than this FA set. I am not sure whether the speaker casing on the SD is metal or not, but it is more solid, rigid (so that it does not vibrate), and the speaker is of a wider diameter. On a Decibel meter check with full volume rail sounds same speed levels and horn, the LC GP7 hit 86db, the SD hit 84db, and the FA barely reached 79db. Mostly scored a consistent 78db. This was surprising,, given the money spent. I guess buying the all powered A-B-A was not enough, and they want to motivate a rail fan to spend another $500 on the superbass. Kinda sucks. Happy for the kids with Lion Chiefs-that actually seems to produce the best sounds for anything I have, the little engine that could.

Yes, the original is entry level for children to play with. The new set is not market focused for children to buy nor to play with. This is the same as other units produced today with a different paint and road names. The outlandish cost puts this remote computer controlled train in the deep pockets collector market. I can’t believe you think a kid in the 1950’s was thinking about this engine set that was never intended for a child to play with regardless of the cost.
