My partners from the mountain lakes train shop just got there first shipment of these about a week ago. The owner also got his picture taken in front of the real 4083 engine while holding Lionel’s model
I have to say I am more of a fan of New York central before the 60s but this certainly does look cool! What is your favorite New York central locomotives? Mine are the streamliners like the Mercury, Dreyfuss Hudson and Commodore Vanderbilt.
Thanks for the informative review on those unique locomotives. The NYC also did an E8B unit (4107B) in the Century Green as well. When you showed us the exquisite roof details it reminded me of the K-Line NYC E8's that I have in my collection. Released over 20 years ago they were nicely done. Enjoy running those new E8's. Lionel did a nice job on them.
I bought the same engines that MTH put out a few years ago. I actually have the mint green Premier ABA and I also bought these same engines in Railking also. This is one of my favorite engines. You made a good choice 👍🏻
When you said you can swap shells with the locomotives, it really surprised me. Thank you for the tip that you can swap shells of a powered and non powered engine to do it the other way around.
I love the paint scheme too I didn't know the New York Central used this color. The other E8s Lionel put out this year are really cool as well, the Independence one with patriotic scheme looks amazing one of my favorites, as well as the Amtrak and Aberdeen Carolina and Western versions. I love the fact the accents are better for the crew talk. My Southern ones feature a VERY southern accent. I also appreciate the roof detail, and how they differ so much for the different road names, but the Amtrak ones are the most detailed. Did you also notice the Mars light/headlight combos change? The Southern units have one with a painted over headlight (relocated to the upper Mars light) and one with only the headlight. I know all Southern E8’s were built with both but it appears to be prototypical from photos of the road numbers. Love my Southern E8’s!
I hope that blooper didn't do damage to your lovely E8! I got this one and the North Pole Central as well and I am glad I did. The NPC is really beautiful and with hot chocolate in the front smoke unit #24 and peppermint in the rear #25 it smells great. When the cars come in in November I hope to see some You Tube reviews of it. The NYC "Jade Green" E8 is beautiful but I don't see how it's green. To me it's a shade of blue. I would call it and the restored locomotive turquoise as well as the NYC same color rolling stock I have. Thanks for doing such a great review!
Wow very nice! Love that color. So unusual. I spied me an Eric’s Trains Easter Egg! At about the 25:50 mark or so. Looks like the cabooses came in! Beautiful set Eric. Lionel is killing it right now with all the stuff they are producing. Fun time to be in the hobby!
I have no idea why, but I’ve always preferred horn sounds that are prototypical to the ones mounted on the model’s roof. Definitely horn 1 or 2 for this diesel!
That's the color alright. In 1972 there was a NYC Caboose on a siding close to my house. Boy was I surprised. Up until then I only saw red SP style on the route.
I saw the actual engine at the Historical Societies open house last weekend. Was great even with the rain. Wish it was open so we could have walked through it. My train shop, only a few miles from the event sold all he had and had to find more. I didn’t preorder it but I was able to get on the second list. It is such a unique engine I would pick it up now as I doubt they will make it again any time soon. You should say the date and how many Legacy Station still has available. Hint hint Lionel, if you make a fantasy set of passenger cars I am your huckleberry 😏. I was told these engines pulled freight but still would like those matching passenger cars. Your videos are getting pretty fancy.
Horns 1 or 3 with #3 being the most common I grew up. Bells #1 or 5 I think I like 5 the best. My guess is that '83 was intended to be the lead engine but as the ready to assemble units come down the line someone just grabbed the wrong shell for the correct frame.
That Mint Green looks great! 👌 The NYPD (NYC) Police 🚔 Cars at that time [1950's] were Green, Black & White, perhaps it was a "NY thing" with the "green." 🃏
I do not regret skipping pre orders for this year. I had the Quad Cities Rocket on my list but scrapped the idea as I had pre ordered a USSF ES44AC, and have UP 4015 (2 Rail Scale Wheels) on pre order with MrMuffins. I’ll pick up the Quad Cities Rocket set later on down the road.
I’m actually surprised this will run on O-36 curve ! I like Lionel can do that so people with smaller layouts can have these engines on there layouts 👍

To me the E6 to E8 diesels were some of the best looking made in that era. I really like the North Pole version, but can't run it on my Christmas layout.
Good looking E units but NYC only did 1 of the experimental jade scheme. The consist was a usually a 2 tone gray smoothside Pullman Standard or mixed with Budd stainless cars. The car consist you are showing behind the pair was the old 20th Century scheme from the steam era.
I could see these things hauling a penn central trail van train. In fact. I think I’ve seen pictures of it. Not sure if anyone makes trail van cars in o.
Have you had any issues with these derailing on your Atlas switches? Been seeing some videos of these derailing due to one of the pickup rollers sliding off the rail and riding along the inside of the switch

M-1 Class 4-8-2, Road Number 6855. -Lionel Model 2431430, P.R.R. M-1 Class 4-8-2, Road Number 6871. There Are Actually Four Other Models Of This Class Of Steam Locomotives Featured In One Of Their Recent Catalogs, Which I Looked Up On The Lionel Trains Website. Two Of Them Have 4 Axle Bogie Tenders, And The Other Two Have 8 Axle Bogie Tenders. The Models I Suggested To Look At Actually Have 6 Axle Bogie Tenders. Which Personally, I Think Suits The Engine Better. If You're Not Up For It, Don't Worry About It. Like I Said, They Were Just Suggestions. You Pick Whatever Model Suits You. It's Your Choice, Not Mine.

Ive seen the real one, that color really pops in person. You were close on the pronunciation, everyone around here says Boo-ton, first N ends up being silent.
Definitely a Shad or 2 off the Mark I have Some Newyork Central Stuff and that Green is A New Green on its On because it definitely doesn't match the Original Green Color but Still at th3 End Of The Day It's A Beautiful Set 😊❤

I'm going with personally the Horn #4, I'm a huge L&N guy and the M5 on E8's from L&N just hold a place in my heart
