Hey Eric ,, it's painted to the PENNSY "" FLEET OF MODERNISM """ A real paint sceme but never on any locomotives ,, only cars .. Look for matching cars --- would make for and incredible display ------
Eric's trains this a stupid request cause you do o gauge but eventually can you do the flyer chief s gauge santa Fe 3751 or pere marquette 1225... It's edited cause I misspelled things
That's a awesome engine the S1 I love the steam as it comes out it's synced to the sound. I see so many steam engines just keep blowing smoke regardless of the engine piston stroke. It's great to see one that syncs the steam and piston stroke sound.
I am so glad you got the tuscan red version...it goes so much better with the modern tuscan red Pennsy passenger cars....thanks for the review, Eric! T4
Wow Eric, I’m not one for fantasy paint schemes but this one is exceptional- great choice. I like the winged keystone above the headlight like the Torpedo had. Great video as usual!
Eric, I believe your Visionline Baldwin Centipede is your strongest puller; I think 4lbs+ on each unit... Regardless, this has amazing tug. That said, and given the weight of this massive torpedo the drive wheels probably don't have the prototypical wheel slip like the MTH version did :) Thanks a million for sharing this engine Eric! Arguably the most beautiful steamer in your fleet! Props man!
That color is so amazing! I heard some people are upset at the Tuscan red but Idk why. The catalog does not do it justice at all. It's an AMAZING looking color. It kinda looks like a Coronation class outta England with that color.
Another excellent review! It honestly couldn't have been better, in my opinion. I knew that there are two sides to this, but I wish the rest the locomotive review channel providers would watch your channel to see how to provide the best possible content, as one could easily point to your reviews, as being the standard against which all others should strive to compare. By the way, I have been watching your channel for quite a while, but have only been commenting on content for a fairly short time. I left a pretty lengthy comment under the amazing large steam locomotive consist video that had a number of questions and wanted your honest opinion as to whether either the length of the questions or the content was off-putting in way, as it is pretty easy to tell that you have a rather well organized and successful life and one would imagine that your time is therefore somewhat limited. Thanks for sharing your impressive collection and talents.
I agree with you, wow that is a gorgeous paint scheme prototypical or not. I love observation car at the end, very unusual looking but cool. Great video and review.
I think for the open house you should run the Tuscan Red S1 and have the Brunswick Green S1 next to it on display I think that would look pretty cool Especially for the visitors
I second that! When I heard of there was gonna be a Tuscan Red version, I thought it would be a bit flatter red like the diesels. But it REALLY pops. Especially with the brass lining.
Man as much as I’d love to have this loco, I’m actually more interested in that L&N sign in the background. My grandfather worked for L&N for 40 years. He used to take me to the yard when I was a kid and he would let me sit on his lap and run the levers in the switcher around the yard and back then they still had a few cabooses around and I would get ride on them every now and then. But that sign I’ve never seen and I would love to get one
I grew up less than 50 yards from the old Soo Line in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. My new GP30 #703 should be here any day! GP30 #700 is pictured on my mouse pad.
I have the previous Lionel version in the typical Brunswick Green (or DLE, whatever you want to refer to it as). This color scheme is an interesting take on it, though I'm surprised that they didn't make bronze an option of color, along with the "American Railroads" markings as it sat at the '39 NY World's Fair.
I wish lionel still did the pilots that were attached to the frame but swiveled some when the car it attached to went around a curve, they looked a lot better.
That is real as it gets. Enjoyed history of pennny . You have helped me create a layout that I truly enjoy salatude. N 4 that I. Thank. U e s from joebell.
Glad you like it Eric. I like the loco, but not fantasy paint schemes. What matters is of course is what makes each of us happy without forcing our likes or dislikes on each other. Good day.
@Eric's Trains i love postwar and I have been wondering if you ever got around to upgrading your postwar engine to command control so they can be ran on your main layout .
I moved from north Georgia “Cleveland ga” to go to Wisconsin to work on the WSOR’ still currently a train conductor here till I transfer to the blue ridge southern railroad, I would love to go but I work 6 days a week ): would love to watch the live on TH-cam when you go !!
This has one ounce of pulling power more than the sp ac-9 It has one pound of pulling power less than the Virginian bluebell/allegany It also beats its competition from mth is pulling power There the ac-12 cab forward with 4 pounds 3 ounces. This took a lot of editing
My personal favorite Steam Engine is the One we can no longer see, the most efficient and powerful of all 2 engine models, the New York Central's 4 - 8 - 8 - 4 Niagara, type 2. A sad day when the Central scrapped the last of the 27 Niagara's in the late 1950's.
Hi Eric, really cool locomotive and nice video. Curious - how do you film yourself in the car? My co-worker is trying to start up a youtube channel and is wondering how to set up a Dash-cam rig.
Did you have to open it up to take care of that loud smoke fan? I could hear it from the video in the store and was wondering if you were going to mention it but never did. Didn't hear it once it ran on the layout so I assume you took care of it? Ive had the same problem with my B6 out the box, smoke fan was nearly louder than the sounds.
I like the staggered chuff as demonstrated while at Legacy Station. Too bad the S1 isn't dual motored and without traction tires, so we could watch the infamous wheel slip.
Jeeze. Lionel got the GP-30's prime mover wrong. It sounds like a 645 instead of the 567 block it came with. Even with Soo's rebuild of three of these with CAT engine inside, they did not sound like 645 blocks. At least Lionel got the Alco trucks on these right.
That is one of your best looking engines, at least in my opinion. Did the real engine have smoke coming out of both stacks simultaneously, or was it like the Vision Line Big Boy?
FYI, this video has chapters in case you feel like skipping around...although I wouldn't. :-)

Eric thank you for the review what can be said other than totally awesome! I love that red paint, fantasy or not it's gorgeous!
I try to watch the directors cut ;)

@@Mr.BlitzSico I would like to but I’m not really set up for S gauge
Great review! If only the S1 had a livery like that in real life. That's one of my favorite fantasy liveries that Lionel ever made.

I’m so glad you do these videos. Because there is no way I could afford anything like this
I’m sure if you sold a kidney you could afford something like this. I am glad I don’t model the Pennsy, so I can save my kidney for something else.
Thanks!
The Real Soo 700 lives and still operates at the Lake Superior Railroad Museum and North Shore Scenic Railroad
Nice to think that instead of just throwing her into the torch, they still considered if they could afford to save her
Wow!! What a beautiful, sleek, streamlined body design on that thing, absolutely gorgeous👍👍
Catching this a year after posting. Man that is a massive engine and gorgeous. Thanks for sharing this! The GP 30 looks awesome too!
Thanks for watching!
I have 4 of them and the Tuscan I one of them love it
If only one could have this hobby without having to be a bank robber or something, because even H0 stuff is insanely expensive.
@Tony’s Trains I appreciate the shout, still I just see it as the achilles heel of the hobby. By the way, punctuation goes a long way.

Looks like a train that a boy would be holding in those 1950s Lionel ads. :)
Eric,
That is one of the nicer Lionel fantasy schemes. Good choice! Enjoy!
I like the GP30 as well.
This has become one of my favorite engines! Great review as usual
26:05 , I love the camera angle!! Great video, the color on the s1 is beautiful!
Wow Eric, I’m not one for fantasy paint schemes but this one is exceptional- great choice. I like the winged keystone above the headlight like the Torpedo had. Great video as usual!

Well sir I think that is the most beautiful engine that you have in your collection, this is shame none of the originals still exist

Love that fantasy paint scheme. Most scale engines are a little drab it really pops and brightens up everything around it. Great choice 👍🏻
I agree with you, wow that is a gorgeous paint scheme prototypical or not. I love observation car at the end, very unusual looking but cool. Great video and review.
Tuscan Red S1's look like a special kind of odd. an AMAZING looking odd!
Hey Eric very nice! “The BIG RED engine”
I must say the Tuscan works very well on the S1 I could see it pulling a high class of the same color behind it
I think the red s1 looks so much nicer as well. 700 Soo is sharpe as well. I see these running down our tracks in rl
Speechless. Absolutely astonishing unit the Tuscan red the S-1 is.
Great to see the GP30s arriving already. I ordered the SOO #700 too!
Oooff. She’s stunning. Might have to get me one of these! Can’t wait to see the next one. Almost there!

Hi Eric! Nice Pennsylvania Railroad Tuscan S1! A monster for sure!
I LOVE the color! It's so vibrant and unique. My grandfather, who always requests to watch your channel when he comes to visit, would love it too.

Eric: The O scale S1 is big
My ho scale prr 2-8-8-2: are you sure about that
I wish lionel still did the pilots that were attached to the frame but swiveled some when the car it attached to went around a curve, they looked a lot better.
I’m officially hooked
Absolutely love your videos thank you 😊 sooooooo much
Thanks!
Very disappointed Eric, you didn’t tell us what knife you used to open the box. Gorgeous engine !
Been waiting for you to get a GP30 for YEARS!
I really wish the real Pennsylvania S1 had a whistle instead of a Leslie A200
I love the new flock and western Whistle

@Eric's Trains i love postwar and I have been wondering if you ever got around to upgrading your postwar engine to command control so they can be ran on your main layout .
I would love to find a Legacy Lionel PRR S1, because I just want the legacy sound installed into a bigger comissioned gauge 1 version of the S1.
Im just waiting until you get an A class 1218 model :)

21:26 best feature in my opinion
11:35 HES GONE ROGUE
I grew up with steam and miss it very much. I still like the F3's, 7s, and 9s. Not too fond of the newer engines.
Hi Eric: Thank you for your prompt reply. Yes, that's the one. It's really cool. WH
Beautiful engine Eric!!!
Give Chessie the cat a bigger cameo next time :) Like all the newer features on the current Lionel model compared to my MTH Premier version.
I do recall you did do a review on one seven years ago before this review. If you still have it you'd have 2 S1 locomotives
What a beautiful train
Can I use that one too? (Also for the PRR music video.)
Very nice. Thank you.
congrats to you for 50k subs
This has one ounce of pulling power more than the sp ac-9
It has one pound of pulling power less than the Virginian bluebell/allegany
It also beats its competition from mth is pulling power

On 12:56 the S1 didn't ran very well because I heard rumors about the locomotive can't get in to tight curves!
The rumors are correct. The S1 had trouble turning on curves in real life mainly because of the streamlining and the length of the locomotive.
I watched a clip on john Henry and the guy operating the steam hammer looked like you. This was on U Tube.
Awesome video!
Absolutely stunning model.
Wondering, what's the difference between the "as built" & "calendar" version. Can't see anything from the picture.
To be honest, I'm not sure. :)
Great train!
Are those the new Lionel South Wind passenger cars running behind the Tuscan red Pennsy?
beautiful s1 very nice
Nice love the color.
Hi Eric!
What is a good way to start the hobby?
Probably with a Lionel starter set.
Ok thank you!
I hope mth will do one of these in the future
Holy moly
Did you have to open it up to take care of that loud smoke fan? I could hear it from the video in the store and was wondering if you were going to mention it but never did. Didn't hear it once it ran on the layout so I assume you took care of it? Ive had the same problem with my B6 out the box, smoke fan was nearly louder than the sounds.
I did go ahead and lubricate the smoke unit motor when I got it home because it was a little loud.
Are you gonna do a review an the passenger cars
Hola buenas tardes excelente video felicitaciones por los 50 000 suscribsiones abrazo grande
Eric, Some of those three rail locos are impressive. Is possible, is it practicable, to convert them to run on two rail?
WOW!!!
Hey eric how about the mth pennsy s1 are you can do a cpairston or not ?
Much to my surprise legacy station also sells things on eBay. And I think I almost bought a part from them
I really want the green one but i don't have 096
The recommended curve is 0-72
But the engine has trouble turning on curves just like the prototype, so I think it needs at least 0-82
I like the staggered chuff as demonstrated while at Legacy Station. Too bad the S1 isn't dual motored and without traction tires, so we could watch the infamous wheel slip.

This video is as long as the s1!
Amazing
Cool look to it
Could you get a acela express
Lionel hasn't made the S1 but MTH did!
Lionel did make a run of s1s in the past along with MTH
Early 2000s 6 38024
Did they ever make a steam locomotive that ran on propane instead of coal?
That is one of your best looking engines, at least in my opinion. Did the real engine have smoke coming out of both stacks simultaneously, or was it like the Vision Line Big Boy?
My only issue is the camera going between thomas and friends s7 and s8 frame rate.
