Thank you for the kind words. It is a really fun bike. When I first saw the frameset it reminded me of a FREK or a dreamed up Clockwork bikes creation. The over sized downtube is nice for loaded off road downtube friction shifting. I have had other bikes flex when loaded with downtube shifters and you will get a surprise shift sometimes.
That’s a gorgeous build and super good looking, but can I ask why go with a crusty bike instead of a vintage 80s touring bike? Lots of those out there for cheap and you can have them repainted if need be.
I was really into building up a lot of older/ vintage bikes with my grandfather when I was younger, he had a collection after a few years that tallied upwards of a 1,000 complete bikes. We had a lot of fun. We ended up donating a lot of those bikes. I have chosen to build up a lot more Crust and Rivendell bikes recently after a shoulder surgery. I really like what Crust Bikes is doing within the cycling industry, it is really cool and fun. I have followed Matt for awhile now. When I was coming up I would always skateboard with bmx riders(S&M early 2000’s) some of the bmx dudes knew Matt and were connected to FTW/Spooky cycles through a friend’s family owned/ rider owned shop in high school and they knew UltraRomance aka Ron’s Bikes and spoke very highly of him. I was just a skateboarder hanging out with MTB/ downhill riders, BMX riders and even some freestyle trials, it was really fun learning the different disciplines. Those early 2000’s were very divisive, disc brakes and suspension vs traditional rim brake rigid MTB, very much still a conversation now a days. I still skateboard a lot and I still hang around all styles of riders learning what I can where I can. I like supporting brands where I can when I can. I’m not against rebuilding 80’s bikes or any era really if the find is right. For now most of my quiver is 2017-2023 production frames with a full spectrum of era components. Thank you for watching
astonishing bike can i ask you what kind of crankset did you use - a sub compact i suppose - and what kind of front derailleur did you use to manage it? thanks from italy
Dura-ace front mech and Sugino crankset 172.5 (with logos buffed) mighty comp or an xd series, it is setup double with space for a triple ring, there is a chainguard on the outer ring. Sorry for my tardy response. I was on vacation.
Hi, you ride size Large Crust bikes with very low seat post. I am considering buying a Romanceur in the future, and I like the ”french style” with a minimum of seat post out. Can I ask your own height and PBH?
Hi, thank you for watching. I’m around 5’ 11” with inseam of 31” I have recently recovered from a knee injury and even though my inseam, it can be wild swinging your leg over the saddle at times. I instantly feel like I have a inseam of 28” when the rear bag is stuffed. I can step through between the saddle and the stem pretty easily no matter the crank positioning and stand over the top tube with a few fingers worth wearing bedrocks. When I was growing up I usually ended up on a bike that was way too bike for me. I have had a few fits done throughout the years. The towel racks really make a huge difference with the fit when riding bigger sized frames. The hoods come back towards you pretty far, with a shorter stem it would pretty much put me over the steering axis and combine that will the low trail and 26” it is a great tour/ all arounder all day. I’m converting my canti LB to towel racks and shorter stem this coming spring. Stay tuned. I’ll make a Riv inspired video of my pbh soon. There are still some numbers and math I can go over in a video.
I put a Shimano 122 spindle length bb in there last year. I don’t mind a wider Q factor with these towelracks bars on a larger frame. I don’t notice any discomfort and have no complaints, only personal preference.
i bow unto your level of enlightenment my dear transportation GENIUS
Thank you for the keen eye and kind words 💗
It's not crusty yet but give it some time, what a lovely build! Everything a bike should be for daily riding thanks for sharing

what size bb did you need to get it to work with the triple??

Great bike! What's the name of that rear rack?
Thank you. Both racks are older version of now known NITTO M18. More videos coming soon.

On yer knees for Ronnie Wheeler fanboy
Ronnie Wheeler is the man. Of all insults you could have used. Why a homosexual one? 🤔
I didn’t mean it be sexual; on your knees in whatever service to your god
