    • @criddler_9738
      @criddler_9738 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The iteration of the Susie in the video was a bit finicky with the Deerhead shifters swinging through all the gears and maintaining tension, I first thought it was the rear mech. I swapped out the controls on the cockpit and game changer was the ratchet shifters. The earlier XT mech was amazing! I was definitely testing some concepts out with this build up. I really appreciate your question.

      Thanks! This was a really fun iteration of a “Neo-retro rando” a classy cockpit setup for being on the bike all day. Easy on the eyes. Some folks have opinions that there is too much black. In my defense when you ride from sun up to sun down, having a dark or neutral color tone cockpit is easier on eyes when riding in the sun. Sure, some sunglasses could fix the glare. I have swapped some stuff around. Keep your eyes out for another upload.

    Just set these up on a 9 spd. Can’t seem to hold the shifts and have to keep my thumb on the shifter. Any tips? Loctite?

    • @criddler_9738
      @criddler_9738 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I was having similar issues before I switched over to the Suntour. If you have it setup friction, try to release all the tension and depending if your rear mech has a clutch it should come down the limiter/ LH on the mech. If the mech is just tugging everything to the smallest gear to the point you have to hold the shifter. That is such a bummer on rides, it is a huge drag. Try giving the cable a generous tug with your hand to stretch it out if it is new cables. If you have already done most of what I have said already? The screw that holds the shifter to the mounting pod could be replaced or run existing and loctite added if you wanted to. I would just be more focused on the shifting and making sure the rear mech when shifted into gear is allowing clean chain travel, hopefully there is enough chain to allow desired gear ratio and chainline is running smooth and travels through rear mech in all 9 speeds clean. Doing all of this in a bike stand is ideal but not limited to. Once the chainline runs smooth the shifts and any ghost shifting is sorta a part of friction shifting in general, much like a manual car, weird shifts happen during a ride, but having to hold a finger on your shifting cable to achieve engagement or all the gears dumping to the smallest gear can be solved with a rapid rise derailleur (rear mech) the shifts fall up, more prone to spin out but the best for off road trail riding.

      Hi, thank you for watching. I’m around 5’ 11” with inseam of 31” I have recently recovered from a knee injury and even though my inseam, it can be wild swinging your leg over the saddle at times. I instantly feel like I have a inseam of 28” when the rear bag is stuffed. I can step through between the saddle and the stem pretty easily no matter the crank positioning and stand over the top tube with a few fingers worth wearing bedrocks. When I was growing up I usually ended up on a bike that was way too bike for me. I have had a few fits done throughout the years. The towel racks really make a huge difference with the fit when riding bigger sized frames. The hoods come back towards you pretty far, with a shorter stem it would pretty much put me over the steering axis and combine that will the low trail and 26” it is a great tour/ all arounder all day. I’m converting my canti LB to towel racks and shorter stem this coming spring. Stay tuned. I’ll make a Riv inspired video of my pbh soon. There are still some numbers and math I can go over in a video.

      Thank you for the kind words. Honestly, I’m not exactly sure. I would guess around 25-40.lbs depending on the ride. The Lightning Bolt frameset is spec for a rider 100kg (220lbs) A friend of mine uses panniers and a Ron’s Bikes Large Fab’s chest and he is a smaller rider also, so he tried to get as close to max weight for the LB I think.

I believe each Crust Bikes models of framesets are designed around a specific fork and bottom bracket style. On the website there is a 650B conversion fork for 1” quill stem style similar to the Lightning Bolt Canti fork it just doesn’t seem to clear as big of tires as the Lightning Bolt Canti can with or without fenders.

    • @criddler_9738
      @criddler_9738 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was really into building up a lot of older/ vintage bikes with my grandfather when I was younger, he had a collection after a few years that tallied upwards of a 1,000 complete bikes. We had a lot of fun. We ended up donating a lot of those bikes. I have chosen to build up a lot more Crust and Rivendell bikes recently after a shoulder surgery. I really like what Crust Bikes is doing within the cycling industry, it is really cool and fun. I have followed Matt for awhile now. When I was coming up I would always skateboard with bmx riders(S&M early 2000’s) some of the bmx dudes knew Matt and were connected to FTW/Spooky cycles through a friend’s family owned/ rider owned shop in high school and they knew UltraRomance aka Ron’s Bikes and spoke very highly of him. I was just a skateboarder hanging out with MTB/ downhill riders, BMX riders and even some freestyle trials, it was really fun learning the different disciplines. Those early 2000’s were very divisive, disc brakes and suspension vs traditional rim brake rigid MTB, very much still a conversation now a days. I still skateboard a lot and I still hang around all styles of riders learning what I can where I can. I like supporting brands where I can when I can. I’m not against rebuilding 80’s bikes or any era really if the find is right. For now most of my quiver is 2017-2023 production frames with a full spectrum of era components. Thank you for watching

      @@user-et4gs7tt2t I’m about 5’11” barefoot with an inseam of 32” the reason my seat post is low because I built this bike to fit me like a “French Fit” the crank arms on this build currently are 172.5. If I were to put 165 length crank arms I would raise the saddle to accommodate more. In the past I have hurt my knees before by over extending my legs on long rides by raising the saddle too high on builds with similar fits. I can raise the saddle up for filming purposes for aesthetic reasons, there are people on TH-cam and Instagram that do move the saddle height for visual aesthetics purposes and lower it for when the riders is on the bike. I just filmed this video in the middle of a ride. I have another video of this build with different components, I swapped out the seat post for a Nitto 65.
