Thanks for the tip about the ignition release, saved my butt. Had the cable break inside the wire so the pin would just stick out/couldnt shift, but I couldnt take it off the ignition end without that tip!
I was starting to lose hope that I could do this myself. Thank you so much for the video and for the tidbit about rotating the thing behind the ignition cylinder. I literally purchased a service manual and all it says is "Disconnect the park lock cable assembly", no additional clarification.
You’re welcome! glad I could help. I had the same issue no videos ever explained that part about the cable. I’m surprised the service manual didn’t have the proper info. Wow. Nice GM 😶
Thank you so much for your video and explaining it. I appreciate it very much as what a person figures it out on their own they generally break things. Lol.
maybe someone can help , my 02 sierra will shift into PRND fine ,only if i have my brake pedal to the floor if i have it about 75% to the floor it will shift into D but will stay in 1st gear unless i turn the truck off and hit the brake all the way to the ground
Sorry I got to talking extra in this. It’s a lot to do on your own for your first video. Been a minute but I had to come back and say it. Since this has blown up
I had to work on it overnight in the freezing cold till my truck could shift gears again. Putting stuff back together the next day I decided to go over it. It’s all there watch the video as you do it
You have to take the ignition cylinder out, rotate the green square inside the area you removed the cylinder from to off. then slide the cable out. Afterwards, put the cable back in as the square is positioned in “off” then put it back to run and insert the lock cylinder in with the corresponding groove
Late Update: this shift mechanism from O’reilys was garbage, didn’t shift past 2 in the low gear range, I snagged one of a junkyard truck (has to have key in truck, so u can turn ignition) never had any problems after. Truck is sold. I just bought a avalanche. Check out my new content
That’s a hard one. Probably nowhere but a junkyard would have it. Go there and take the top/bottom shroud off, then slide it out and youre good. That’s what I would do.
There is a super easy way to do this. Simply taking the other end of that cable off. I will attach the other TH-cam who explains it. th-cam.com/video/JfvGqGNZ4tM/w-d-xo.html
Good video ,But it almost looks as if you were pissed off in the preliminary stages of this repair , Like maybe you snatched plastic and broke clips, Believe me Bro , I most definitely get it. I'm pushing 50 so back in my hay day things were soooooo much simpler . Automobiles came apart and went back together better back in the 80s and 70s. ..All of this plastic, and plastic fasteners and clips to have to deal with. Four or five different size screws or bolts to contend with , And everything jam packed into a space ya cant get or see into to replace something you shouldn't have an issue with for another two hundred thousand miles if you were ever suppose to ..It's just like they say ," Boy they sure don't make shit like they used to" I usually end up with quite a few extra screws on these newer ones, Im just " old school" back when you could fix almost anything on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere without a You tube video and almost no tools , Girlfriend holding a flashlight for you never pointing it at what you're trying to do , No cell phone to call a tow truck , sounds like it sucked but it was so cool , Pulled a motor, overhauled it reinstalled it , and did it all with a pair of vise grips that didn't slip , a frigging pipe wrench and a tire tool , Unpredictable random dancing light the holder of which was so clueless but so cute though, No screws left over , No computer to reboot Datsun B210 back when the Japanese had to be our friends , Gas was 78 cents a gallon but all that had to end , Even in 1990 it was ninety eight cents at the pumps , But this recent jump in price is not Vladimir's fault , No. It's actually all because Biden's a chump with no balls , and so is Kamala ,, Bring back Trump , finish the wall , Send Vladimir into the stratosphere , No adversary that I'd fear if I had an atom bomb and a B29 and a couple of beers , Tidbits didn't give a shit , To be clear , when the bombs drop the bullshit stops , After all Enola Gay was not a queer she was a plane her name spelled backwards is alone
I understand what your saying. The night before I filmed this I had to figure it all out when it was pouring & nighttime. The part where the shifter bolts to snapped off while I was trying to put in park at the store, had to replace & had no time to fully go thru it again. But after searching for hours I didn’t get any info on how to fix this. Take it easy & thanks for your feedback Brian. It was my first video & I just wanted to put the knowledge out there, didn’t expect over 35,000 views.
Had to tear down kick panels & all that stuff, shift with the leg of the shift arms way down below that the mechanism attaches to. I know about b.s myself lol. Those were the good days, I wa shorn we’re I still knew a little of what it was like, never got to live it my age now. But I would’ve loved to. GOBBLESS brother
The Mann!

Awesome I’m so glad you got it figured out. These are such a PITA. But once you do it you won’t forget lol.

Been trying to unhook this for an hour thank god I found this video with the rotating backwards to unlatch it thank you
Glad I could help you jake
When you use pik, remove the ignition switch with key intact. Then use the screw to turn the notch backwards, counterclockwise to release the cable.
Thank you so much for your video and explaining it. I appreciate it very much as what a person figures it out on their own they generally break things. Lol.
Got to work on those camera skills my man! Thanks for sharing though. There's some helpful pieces of information.

My truck won’t go into park or reverse then I kept messing with it and it finally went into park any ideas?
You might have broke the linkage down below or it got disconnected. What exactly did you touch?
Can you tell me the name of the wire you suggested videoing when you take it out?? Possibly.
Patricia I’m not sure of the exact name, but it connects from the shift mechanism into the steering column and is released by the lock cylinder
Why don't you just show how to replace it instead of explain it. Better to do it instead of just talking
I had to work on it overnight in the freezing cold till my truck could shift gears again. Putting stuff back together the next day I decided to go over it. It’s all there watch the video as you do it
What do I do if mine doesn’t “catch” I’ve been at this for about an hour and it won’t come out and it doesn’t click.
You have to take the ignition cylinder out, rotate the green square inside the area you removed the cylinder from to off. then slide the cable out. Afterwards, put the cable back in as the square is positioned in “off” then put it back to run and insert the lock cylinder in with the corresponding groove
And to rotate the square use a large flat head screwdriver

Where can I buy the white clip from?
That’s a hard one. Probably nowhere but a junkyard would have it. Go there and take the top/bottom shroud off, then slide it out and youre good. That’s what I would do.
Your video helped a lot Ty.
@@ald9079 your welcome. New content coming soon by the way
Why make a replacement video and don't replace it just explain
I said was pouring out and dark outside. I had to figure it out so I could drive the truck in the AM
There is a super easy way to do this. Simply taking the other end of that cable off. I will attach the other TH-cam who explains it.

How did you get the shifter to shift into 1 again ?
