    Hey David! great video as always. One small thing though, with the One R, you can import the file directly to Premiere, since they added a plug in which you can download in their website. I work with premiere and One R and I don't export the files beforehand :) cheers!

    Content owner of GoPro Max and GoPro Hero 9 Black. Having two cameras is still better than paying for a single system with different mods imho. I can have one recording a different angle and another doing a different thing. switching mods can be a hassle. I like what insta360 is doing though, they will only make GoPro products better. That's what having a competition does. Great video, David. Thanks for reviewing and making videos for us.

    Hi - really solid video congrats. I have myself been looking to get action camera for video shooting. After watching countless reviews I knew I want 360 camera even though it sacrifices on resolution/quality a little bit - it’s much much better that you can reframe footage after it’s been shot - nothing that i can miss now, no worries whether something has been framed well. In the end I chose GoPro max for reasons you didn’t mention: insta360 R to mount you need to put a special bracket on - normally not big deal unless you want to change battery then you need to disassembly camera module the main module so juggling with loads of pieces for something that should be quick and easy - risk of damaging lenses increases here greatly. Secondly underwater 360 module is unusable doesn’t stitch properly vs GoPro being much better and having option of hero mode as well. Thirdly - auto horizon - GoPro has got this option insta doesn’t so that helps in post production greatly. Lastly coloring and postproduction app - multiple reviews claim GoPro to have an edge - coloring is obvious one potentially saves a step in postproduction

    GREAT REVIEW! Well.... I have two GoPro 7 Blacks and now I learn that the batteries will work in the GoPro 8, but you loose the best stabilization mode of the 8. So if I upgrade I would need a whole new set of batteries. Well then, now I might as well consider another manufacture as either way I’d have to buy a new set of spare batteries. What’s the batterie cost and capacity / life difference between the two? Do I end up having to spend more or carry more for a days worth of video shooting while out back. What’s the charge time like between the two...

    • @DavidManningvlog
      @DavidManningvlog  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks man and great questions Richard! The tough thing is that those GoPro 7 Blacks are just so damn good! I've even said before that if someone has the 7, they shouldn't even worry about upgrading to the 8. With that setup, I would say to pickup the ONE R Twin Edition and keep at least one of those cameras for a second angle. I mainly run the ONE R in 360 mode. I would say just buy that, but for $50 more it's an easy add to just get the Twin Edition and have the 4K mod as an option. Batteries are about the same price, but the ONE R batteries are a bit tough to get your hands on right now. Capacity and run times are about the same as well. I feel like all of these companies are hitting a wall in run time with battery capacity in such a small form factor. I'm not sure about charge times, but I'll check it out!!!

    Don´t do watersports with an Insta 360 without a case. I have both (gopro max and Insta 360 one R) . Water gets inside the one R and if you use a case, it gets foggy and there´s a lot of reflections as it´s made of plastic...I normally use the GoPro max without a case (there's not even a case made by GoPro) because it´s not necessary and the footage quality and sound is much better. Out of the water I prefer the Insta

    Would you really trust taking this in the ocean/salt water without a case? Each module is a point of failure for leaking. People report leaks with the GoPro hero 8 and the DJI osmo action. I have both.
    Taking the modules apart and swapping them may quickly weaken the seals. If you get hit by a wave the water pressure can be really strong, and a salt water leak is usually a death sentence for electronics. In fresh water I would be less concerned. The 1 inch sensor is interesting for underwater use, although the minimum focus distance may not be close enough in some instances.
    I wonder if the battery modules are more expensive than batteries for GoPros and osmo actions.
    Great that someone is innovating. What is the file size of the proprietary format compared to mp4 video files?

    Hi Dave, congrats on another fab video. I did notice when you compare 360 footage, this was shot at different locations. A better test is shooting in the exact same moment. I also feel like the quality will be somewhat determined by if the main action is taking place on the stitch line. Thoughts?

    Thanks for another terrific video. Even though the two Gopro cameras costs more than the Insta360 setup, I’d be kind of partial to having two different cameras with different specialties (standard and 360 mode). On the wind reduction test, I actually preferred the sound from the Gopro, even with the wind (and the fountain) noise still present, over the Insta360. The Insta360 sound had a ‘talking into a 5 gallon bucket’ sound quality to me. I think I’d rather just embrace the wind, or whatever other environmental noise is present and let that be part of the story🤷🏼‍♂️.

    • @DavidManningvlog

      Interesting take! I'm with you that having two angles is a really cool thing to have. I'm actually playing with a motovlogging setup with a 4K cam on my helmet and a 360 cam on the pole out front. Super cool to be able to cut between two angles. But after all this testing, I might end up picking up another ONE R so that I could share batteries between the two cameras. We shall see!

    Insta360 ONE R was an easy choice when I finally pulled the trigger a week ago. Twin Edition being on sale helped nicely, but I had already made up my mind after seeing review footage and the modular accessories in the pipe: 360º aerial drone kit, vertical battery kit, double-capacity battery kit, Stereoscopic 3D kit and of course, the option to get the 1" Leica..
    After playing with this for the last ~5 days, there's a lot to like. The PC (Studio 2020) app will additionally export to a ProRes 422 MOV file. H.265 also available. In-camera option to record video in a flat LOG profile was taken and results gets a thumbs up from me. Free color-correction LUTs were grabbed from their site and applied in FCPX.
    When IOS app is launched whether on iPhone or iPad, a powered-on ONE R will invoke the app to ask for a connection to the camera. That's a pretty frictionless process that I was otherwise needlessly dreading.
    The 4k module will be handy for B-roll footage for the dSLR or those times when I'm looking for buttery-smooth slo-mo from the 200fps mode. There's a lot of versatility coming from just the package.

    • @DavidManningvlog

      They're all waterproof and you don't technically need the cage for them to be waterproof. But the cage helps hold them all together so they don't come apart if you were to say get hit by a massive wave. That might be enough pressure to pull them apart in the ocean. I love the GoPro 8black and use it for my vids.. but I’m getting a little concerned/upset that they have not given an update on the display mod... it would definitely help with framing shots. Love your content, convinced me to sub!!

    • @DavidManningvlog
      @DavidManningvlog  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The display mod seems like it will be a great feature, but with the Osmo Action having two screens and the ONE R having a flip forward option, I feel like they're behind in the feature set. You would think that a product in different generations would have no front screen, then an attachable front screen, then a built in front screen. The Osmo Action jumped two gens with the built in front screen and GoPro is lagging behind. We'll see though!

    Great comparison! I think the insta360 is easier to hear but sounds too electronically processed/ robotic and cuts out most of the ambient noise which I like to hear in videos. Gopro definitely looks better video quality wise. Not that I'm a fan of Gopro, my one and only Gopro died on me a few years back and lost all my holiday footage.

    Would be sick if insta just came out with a new battery mod that had the “folding fingers” mount like the gopro on the bottom would add some bulk to the bottom but eliminates the weight and need for a cage... what’s your opinion right now with the significant price drops on gopro, 8 Black is $250 and Max is $350... great video also thanks for the work..

    • @DavidManningvlog
      @DavidManningvlog  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That would be sweet John! My only concern is that I know the frame is key to keeping this camera together. They don't recommend you use the camera in water unless it's in the frame. I think with the modular design, the frame is key to keeping it from coming apart. As for the GoPro stuff, we should be seeing a new camera from them soon!

    Another great video! I'm testing out the Insta360 ONE R Aerial Edition for the Mavic Pro. So far, it's not been as impressive as the other Insta360 ONE R offerings. In your video, you didn't mention that you can process the Insta360 insv files directly in Adobe Premiere Pro (APP), but you have to install the Insta360 Plug-ins for APP during the installation of Insta360 Studio 2020. Insta360 has you install the GoPro FX Reframe Plug-in to handle reframing of the video directly within APP. Using APP to handle the Insta360 insv files directly has proven problematic as well (doesn't retain the "Source Settings" for the insv files - this is where they have you define the Insta360 options to use for the file). Insta360 Studio 2020 seems to handle processing the 5.7K footage far better than directly in APP. Keep up the great work and I look forward to your Insta360 ONE R Aerial Edition for the Mavic Pro review.

      Thanks Robert, super kind of you to say! You're totally right, I didn't mention it, but it's for the same reason you mentioned. It's been so hard to work with and for sure my third option behind the app and their desktop studio app. I'm super excited to hear what you think about the aerial edition! When you say not as impressive, do you mean that the shots aren't as unique or that the stitching isn't looking good?

    Hero Mode on the Max is 1920 x 1440. Weird ball resolution. It does look better than straight 1920 c 1080 though.
    It is really disappointing that Hero Mode on the Max can't at least do 4K. But if it did what would be the point of buying both. And they probably want you to buy both.

    • @DavidManningvlog
      @DavidManningvlog  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's what I'm thinking too! I want one camera that can do both! But that's obviously not as good for their bottom line than getting me to buy two cameras. One of the reasons I'm digging the ONE R though. It's like an interchangeable lens camera, the body, the lens, and the battery are all separate!

    Hey David, great job on 60k...61k...62k...63k... geez man 🚀🍾
    Great video, like always. I primarily shoot with multiple cameras in multiple mounts. Typically shooting multiple days so there’s quite a bit of footage to go through. Love the whole “shoot with a purpose” but we all know how that changes in processing and editing. Then your stuck with only the footage you shot. For these reasons looked into 360, but was allowed to try one last year. The extra work flow and tremendous file size along with capture limitations just didn’t make sense. I do like the unlimited angles but it completely changes the look. I can honestly say, your video has given me the insight to the direction to keep going. Best of luck my friend in “utoobury”. Hang on for the ride cuz your taking off! 🤙🏼

    • @DavidManningvlog
      @DavidManningvlog  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Bobby! You're absolutely right about the workflow, it's super rough! Honestly, that's the main reason that this video was so tedious to make. Each time you're comparing 360 footage, you're filming, then reframing twice, then exporting twice, then importing twice. I think that's the main hurdle right now with 360 and the one that each company is trying to address. Insta360 has a lot in the app that I didn't go into because it would have been an hour long video if I did. BUT they're trying to work some new AI in there so it will automatically do the reframing for you, focusing on the points of interest that they think you meant to film. It's interesting stuff for sure. I think a few more generations and we'll have something that will really work well!

    Great video, you came so close to answering my question at the end but you didn't quite pull it off. So I have to ask, what's the point of the 4k mod? Why not just get the 360 mod with the 1 inch mod and call it a day? I mean it is more expensive than the 4k 360 mod combo but it seems to beat the GoPro combo in every way with the Insta coming out cheaper even if you get all 3 mods. I think you made a strong case for the Insta tho. Thanks for the hard work!!

    • @DavidManningvlog
      @DavidManningvlog  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a video quality thing. If you're just shooting normal video and you don't need 360 video, you'll get better and higher quality video shooting the 4K mod. When 360 cameras are reframed, you can only get about 1080 resolution out of them👍

    "... the most excited about." ?
    The insta360 system, for obvious reasons.
    Main one being : improving and adapting is done through changing modules. No need to throw the whole camera, or let it sleep and collect dust on a shelf.
    That doesn't hurt anyone to think about this ever growing obsolescence ? Come on... buying a whole new camera every 2 or 3 years, can we (us and our planet) really afford that ?
