I’ve used a head lamp for a long time and it’s good too! Sometimes you just need a quick focused light from the flashlight instead. Easier to look for pests as well because you can move freely
@GraftingDragonFruit . I find that using the red light on my headlamp doesn't make the bugs fly at my face nearly as much. It also really helps to keep your night vision if you have to turn it off. I am growing some of my fruit indoors under LED lights. Is there anyone who might know a light schedule that might help keep them growing in veg and not blooming just yet? I would be very grateful. ❤ Thank you. 🙂
I am really been surprised here in Saint Petersburg Florida, I decided to try and grow dragon fruit because my daughter told me about it and that my granddaughter loves it, so I watched your videos, got lucky and purchased some cuttings cheap. Started this journey in March '24. I let them get out of hand so watched your videos again and decided to drastically trim, gave many cuttings away. Then I tipped them so new growth could develop, well 1 pot decided to bloom, totally blew my mind, I now have 6 buds, thank you for your videos
I don't know what I'm doing wrong, I get plenty of pollen and hand pollinate every flower, but out of over 50 blooms this year, I only had 3 set fruit.
You probably have to cross pollinate with another variety for the ones that didn't set. I don't know which variety you have. The plant also might not be mature enough to handle all the flowers or there's not enough nutrients. Many factors can be the cause
I've got a few dozen flowers, popping in waves. 3-4 a night. Over the last 2 weeks. Seems I have a self sterile 1. Have plenty of pollen. But no access to something different. About 6-7 left to flower. Not looking good though. Hopefully next year. I have 2 different varieties I have seedlings sprouting, & trying your grafting to my rooted cuttings. Maybe I could get them in by next year. Appreciate all your videos really helped. If you know anyone needing pollen in Bay Area I have plenty 2 share.🍻

Great video! I call my night routine "a seasonal second job" LOL! I am finding that this year--it is taking a bit longer for my fruit to ripen. More than 30 days....the anticipation is building! 😄
I just missed the very first blooming of my dragonfruit! My husband was in the hospital 3 times in 3 weeks with 2 emergency surgeries, and i missed it! 😭😭😭😭
@GraftingDragonFruit it's a baby anyway. Only 3 foot. Probably best it didn't until I get it transplanted in my 25 gallon containers (hopefully this weekend). I got 6 from Schulman after i saw your interview with him. He's soooooo sweet.
@@GraftingDragonFruitit fruited without my intervention! God bless my little night pollinator! My very first fruit is growing rapidly, and now I have another flower bud! I will be vigilant this time. Thank you for your videos. I watch them over and over!❤
I enjoy you channel. Sadly, the Hylocereus megalanthus aka yellow dragon fruit which I grew from a store-bought fruit's seeds has never even flowered, let alone fruited in the 5 years it has been in a large 2.5 ft diameter pot with good soil. In my climate it has gone out in part sun during the summer, and has grown to 5 feet tall with lots of green growth. I have even pruned off the tips and tied it to a post in the pot. It gets dilute all purpose fertilizer at the start of summer, and is watered when dry. Is this just a case of a random genetic failure, or have I missed something?
I recently bought a yellow dragon fruit. Owner said it was 6 years old and was grown from store bought seed. Your case fits my situation and it too doesn't look like it's flowering anytime soon.
Planting from seeds will take 5-7 years for the dragon fruit plants to mature enough to product fruit. Grafting those seedlings onto stronger rootstock can expedite that process.

thanks! Q - does applying a mix a pollens result in something not as desirable as pollinating with only one pollen? Wondering if I should be playing it safe when pollinating my NOIDS and just using a mix or sticking to one pollen at a time
Not necessarily. It increases your chance of getting an unknown pollinated. You just won’t know the exact variety you crossed with but it wouldn’t matter with a NOID anyway. If you stick with one at a time, you can see how it affects the fruit
hey bro!! Love your videos and u sure have a green thumb. Question, How do I re pot the dragon fruit plant I got from Home depot to a trellis like u have. Do I take it out of the pot and break off the leaves and re plant on all 4 sides of the post? I dont wanna kill the plant. In the pot I received, Are they all individual plants just taped together? ty
You can transfer as normal. No need to break off the leaves. If you want to plant all 4 sides, you’ll have to prune some branches and go through the rooting process before planting.
This year I have mixed pollen from Vietnamese white, Viet Red, Connie Mayer, Physical Graffiti, and Home Depot red. Hoping to set fruit with Vietnamese white in the mix. VW has so much more pollen compared to others, its wild.
I saved pollen ,dried for 24hrs. Put in the fridge . My question is do you need to let the pollen dry before pollinating. Because the pollen out of the fridge kinda clumps together
8.12 - 10.00 is what I think I have. It grows facing south on top of my Bitter Orange which I've left for future Citrus graftings (which I've never done yet) Only Sunside south gives flowers, never yet fruit. A long hot Israeli summer season, it drinks from the ground w/the grey water put under the citrus, which gives complete shade to the Dragon fruit succulant. Many grow here in gardens ... Can I send you a photo somehow ?? Thanks 😋
From where to you buy your 25 gallon pots? Been checking the big box stores and nurseries down here in Sarasota, FL and I've had no luck finding a pot that big. HELP! 🙂
I want to start growing dragonfruit and could get super into it. I’m just confused where all the varieties are kept? Like is there a chart somewhere that tells you what creates what and how do you if you’ve created something new?
When you collect pollens, how many days can you leave them out in a room temperature area for pollens to still be used to pollenate flowers?? I noticed frozen pollens never worked. I many fruits because of frozen pollens & out of pollens 😢
I think you meant to say the same “node” won’t fruit again after it aborts. The text on the screen says “branch” and you then go on later to say that it will fruit again.
Love your videos! Question. I overwatered one of my dragon fruit plants and half the trunk is turning into jello. Should I leave it alone or remove that stuff. I don’t see a video on that? Thanks for all the help and great videos!

So there's self fertile, self sterile etc.
But what about the term "universal pollinator" can you explain that?
It means the pollen can work on most if not all varieties.
@@GraftingDragonFruit so some pollen can't be used on some plants? Thank you so much and awesome video as usual!
I use a headlamp. It might not work for making a video, but it's easier to use than a handheld.
How do you collect and store the pollen?

You can use a fertilizer routine and also tip branches to induce bud. It all depends on if your dragon fruit is mature enough to have flowers as well.

The same branch can continue to fruit. But the node that has branch or bud will not.
Between Tricia and El grullo which one is more vulnerable to disease?

I believe it’s the plant’s skin getting burnt a bit
