Thanks for this video. 95-100 here as well. And my BHW got beat up the worst - was planning to collect the fruit and carve the rot, but nice to see confirmation pro's do the same
I'm glad I saw this in time! I am in NorCal and we had the multiple days of 100+ degree heat and I wondered if it was too much. They are arill green though and fruits are still coming out.
Thanks I needed this educational video! My Dragon fruit got hit hard this week by the recent California extreme heat. I was wondering if it was a disease but evidently I'll invest in a couple of canopies and umbrellas. Or should I just move them to a shady area?
My cuttings arrived in October 2023, they are outside in full sun in 12" pots. But they get afternoon shade starting at 3PM from a large oak tree. Only one variety is showing really turning colors (Michelle is red/brown, not yellow) due to this extended period of 100+ degree weather. 26 days over 100 in July, 16 days over 100 in Aug, and 5 days over 100 in the first 9 days of September. Sugar Dragon, American Beauty and Physical Graffiti seem to be really happy with the heat, they have topped the trellis and are putting out their second flush of new branches.
I am also from Egypt. The scorching sun destroyed many dragon fruit. The fruits did not survive. This season the temperature was much higher than usual. But why did you wait until the leaves were cooked, then put up the umbrellas?
Hi! My name is Nelita Nilsson and live in Algarve, Portugal. I have dragon fruit plan that bear deep red fruit. Can I buy a çouple of çuttings from you of different varieties? How much would it costs including śhipping? I would appreciate very much hearing from you. Thanks.
I got my first dragon fruit flowers on La Verne, Sugar Dragon and Haleys Comet. The Sugar Dragon fruit flower turned mushy and fruit fell off. The others turned yellow and fell off before becoming fruit. What did I do wrong? I bought shade covers for them to protect them from the sun.
Richard can you please update us on the hot houses for the cutting roofing ? Alik had to remove the hot house fabric and replace his with shade cloth 80-90% block. Almost time to move my pots under cover for winter. We have a few 50 deg nights and plans to dip into 40s coming shortly. I run my heating at 60deg and hopefully the 600w hps will provide sufficient light to keep my Dragons filling in the canopy’s 🤞🙏
If the full sun does not make the fruit taste better / sweeter you need to get some shade cloth and build an awning over all of your plants. I don't know what % shade cloth dragon fruit needs.
Can you spray of products that give white cover to the dragon fruits? I don't know if I am allowed to say the names of the products, Some products have caoline, some have other white powder used to protect from insects, fungus and hot sun for many different crops.
I live in Menifee zone 9b. The heat has been intense here, since July. I was watching my vines turn yellow and I didn't realize that it was the intense heat and sun. Another rookie mistake. I draped shade cloth over my plants about 10 days ago and the branches are turning green. Also there has been a sudden uptick in flowers and some of the flowers I pollinated have begun to size up. Many of the flowers that experienced the extreme heat never developed and just feel off.
How does your DF produce fruit if you cover them with umbrellas that block sun light! doesn't DF need a minimum number of hours of direct sunlight to photosynthesize and grow fruit?
My question is are u watering every day wen it's in the 100s??? I'm in northern california and yes I provide shade but only after 3 or 4 aclock but my main thing is water every day wen it's that hot and yes I have minor damage but not as bad as yours. Rare dragon fruit said the most important thing is u have good soil that will help ur dragons from burning. The dragons that took a beating did they have fox farm??? Any how great video I've learned alot from you. Thank you for all your information
Yes, I’m starting to have to water everyday with this current weather of 100F! I’ll do this until it cools down and go back to watering every other day or two days.
Hi do you know why my dragon fruits will have a spot where it split opens while it is still on the plant? Could it be because it gets too ripe before I pick it?
My dragons has a lots of flowers when they open up look so beautiful and I pollinate it about a week later it turn yellow feel off i`m very sad 3years in a row it happen maybe I watering it to much ? its hot here 114
Hope this video is helpful and good luck with protecting your dragons!
Can deff feel the heat. Hope your plants recover well.🐉 ❤
Yeah the heat has been brutal but they should be ok
Thank you for posting this...

Very nice!
Hope you’re not having to battle heat!
Where I live it was 112-120 F for most of the summer. I lost two Dragon Fruit trees with shade/covering. Brutal summer.
Sorry to hear! This summers heat wave is not forgiving 🥲
I am planning to plant mesquite trees and moringa around to give them broken shade during the hottest part of the day here in Chihuahua city Mexico
That’s a great strategy 👍🏼
I was getting new buds on a brand new variety and they dried out ... :( due to the heat. Thank you for this video.

Most Idea umbrella 🏖️ ☔ style😮 ❤ from Assam jagiroad 👍
Cut banana leaves work great for me.
That’s super resourceful!

I was one day late due to my busy schedule and not having enough umbrellas on hand. It’s generally not super hot here in SoCal where I live

What's the best fertilizer for exceptional dragon fruit growth

Great video, Richard. Do you need to worry about lack of flavor and sweetness if the plants are shaded all the time?
No need to worry because this is only temporary until the heat wave passes.
葉焼けは何度位から心配ですか?こちらは35℃(95°F)位の毎日です。日除け必要でしょうか?
Hi friend I think you have to cut more branch for fruit come out more❤❤❤ I did on my tree already
Will those yellow branches recover to become green again or it will stay yellow forever?
Once the weather cools down with help of shading they will turn all back to green.
Dang dude, umbrella city! I just use burlap.
Yup, same here. I buy rolls of burlap and cover my plants during days/weeks of extreme heat (socal here so we've had quite a few of these days)
Yeah it’s just more convenient for me and takes less time

I can’t say for sure because I’ve never tried it
Can you keep a dragon plant in the shade at all times to prevent sunburn ?
Yes you can but they’ll have less fruit production.

What do you do in wintertime?

Is American beauty is good for planting thousands of plant for business?
You’ll have to ask commercial farmers what their thoughts are
Use kaolin

Sounds like you may need to cross pollinate with another variety.

Your plants burning why you leave like this all this time
Had a heat wave. High temperature is not common where I live
Your video is too late for me because all my dragons trees were yellow and blisters
Hopefully they can still be saved
Can they have too much shade? I'm thinking of planting mine under a large Oak tree.@@GraftingDragonFruit
@@sherryarch73748-10 hours of sun per day is good. Too much shade will lead to slower growth and less fruits
if you want to keep people engaged and watching, do some editing and stuff. maybe add some b roll footage and just talk over it. some animation etc.
Thanks for watching
