@@jacoba6747 I disagree, Clark and Lex imo represent two kings. Clark being the godlike being he is in terms of raw power and his representation of justice, hope, love and all that is good. While Lex represents power in terms of money political power,/corporate power as well as being a representation of greed, hate, jealousy, and evil.
Ehm, Yes. They do hate each other. Actually they hate each other the most. Lex hates him the most because he has the life he never had and everything he wanted is Clark's. @noahbriggs8347 Not quite. Remember, in this episode, Lex destroyed the good part (Alexander) of him in the fireplace of his mansion because he made him weak according to Lex.
Lionel Luthor was like a third father for Clark. Even though he did some questionable things, towards the end he had nothing but love for Clark and he felt what a great man Clark will go on to become. I felt sadder at this funeral scene than that of Jonathan

Clark: "How could a son murder his father?" Clark is quick to forget how much a horrible human being Lionel was before Season 4. He's the reason why Lex is evil for goodness sakes.
mthakore he is a big part for sure i think they should have written it as the Lionel luthor from season 10 was the Lionel from seasons 1 to 4 and somehow the Lionel from 5 to 7 could have been from a different earth!
This is when Lex truly lost his soul. He murdered his father, turned his back on everyone & vowed to destroy Cal El. All that & Clarke was still hoping his friend Lex was still in there somewhere, but deep down, he knew Lex was lost to everyone
You can really feel Clark's shock and pain to realise that such evil exists. Especially in someone that was once his close friend. It's sad to see them as enemies, but at the same time it has to be this way.
I've always liked the Clark/Lex on this show. How they were best friends but how they kept each other at a safe distance. Knowing how each other was lieing to each other. I bet they had a really good friendship behind the camera.
That pretty much sums up the dynamic of the show. You know going in to season 1 the history of the man of steel and his arch enemy, so the show having them be friends in the beginning is incredibly peotic. Seeing how they both want to be each other's friends but clark is told not to trust the Luthors and lex, knowing that clark is hiding something, becoming obsessed with trying to figure out how they survived the incident that should've killed them both resulting in their eventual meeting. It's incredibly saddening because you see them get along so well and you hope, against the eventual fate that the story takes them, they remain friends forever.
Lex once told Clark this about their fathers funerals: Lex: "Clark when my father dies, Kings will show up to his funeral. But at your father's funeral, his friends will show." Lex was right, only he and Clark showed up to Lionel's funeral, both Kings in their own right.
I was watching the video and listening to the music while reading this and i have to say that was the most epic fucking comment I've ever read on youtube.

Still the best scene on Smallville friends turned bitter enemies truly sad and truly one of the best staredowns ever and that smirk on Lex's face priceless
This would have been the best way for Smallville to end I think personally it was truly sad and you said it best friends turned bitter enemies truly sad
One of the tragic, but most compelling themes, of Smallville, was Lex's slow transformation from a spoiled but well meaning person to an evil villain. I remember watching the show when it aired here, in the UK, on channel4, in the early 2000s. Michael Rosenbuam portrayed Lex as a very relatable and likeable character who, despite his inherent "Luthor" flaws, actually cared about his friends, especially Clark. Smallville's strength, especially the early seasons, was that it was more character driven, rather than relying on the fact that the main protagonist was a super human alien.
No words can describe the symbolism of this scene. This is, for me, the best scene in Smallville’s history, the music, the characters carrying all of their past but also the burden of the future inevitable fight between them with just THAT look, absolutely amazing and so emotional. Plus, this episode was legendary, and one of the best episode in the show, along with the 100th and the 200th episode. But in this episode, you have that amazing opening scene between Lex and Lionel and Lex definitely turning evil, you have this AMAZING scene between Clark and Lex in the manor, and of course this ending. Just wonderful and that’s why we loved this show.
It's scenes like this that made Smallville such a special show and even though there were no actual words exchanged here, it really spoke so much volumes and the sombre piano music being played at the end made it even more powerful.
@@DessieRL I just meant in the moment during the funeral. Maybe Lex figured Clark would come or was a bit surprised by it. But I found it interesting that he didn't yell at him or just simply tell him to leave, he just let there be silence between them and for Clark to just be there.
Lionel was so instrumental to the monster that Lex became that ut doesn't matter what he tried to undo after the essence/body swap with Clark. The damage was already done. If that change came yrs before, maybe Lex would have had a chance to change his path.
Yeah, I always hated the way that this was Lex's tipping point. Lionel was abusive to Lex and treated him like garbage, but just because he is nice to Clark, Lex has now crossed the line to kill him despite years of the show from its inception showing how Lionel shaped the evil in Lex. This was ridiculous.
In some fanfiction that I have read, they make Lex good person, never the less, I never like them, because Lex Luthor wouldn't be Lex Luthor is he wasn't amoral and unethical and with god complex.
I think it should also be noted that when Lex was presumed dead in the earlier season, Lionel was going to have a massive funeral in the mansion burial grounds (if I recall). Lex gave Lionel not even a standing tombstone. Just a grave marker in a crowded cemetery, which Lionel would have definitely seen as an insult.
Well... There's a scene in Superman The Animated Series... where Clark is on way to Lex. Lex is expecting someone else... (maybe Lane...maybe Supes... doesn't matter)... But when Lex sees Clark on the security monitor he just says "Kent." The tone in the voice (excellent job by voice actor btw)... completely shows that Lex knows Kent is Superman. But the battle isn't with the reporter... Lex's battle is with the Alien. A distinct difference...at least in Lex's mind.
He lost jor el then he lost Jonathan then he lost Lionel, and at some point he lost jor el again? Now since he is immortal it's time 4 him 2 outlive the human race
I could never understand why I was suppose to give a shit that Lex killed his father. I don't care that he was helping Clark at the end, that piece of shit murdered his parents and basically abused Lex all of his life....his death was too quick as far as I'm concerned.
It's a sad world where people are starting to redeem themselves and people use their past as a means to basically say, "Instead of starting to do good in the world like you are doing now, just die." Lionel even wanted to stay in prison to suffer for what he's done but circumstances brought him out of jail and he used it as an opportunity to repent for what he's done.
tr011ful Nope, that mother fucker was evil to the core, if he was given the time he would have gone back to his evil ways. I still remember his alternate self it that other world.
+Sweetp000433 It kind of reminds me of Dukat from Star Trek: DS9, he started out as a very sinister character, then immersed into gray areas during season 4 and 5, and just when you thought he was turning to the good side, he goes back again to being evil. Not even his daughter could save him. I don't think there was bad blood running through his family line though, like with the Luthors.
But he was an alternate Lionel, not the same man. This is evident when Lois says to him that basically he's not acting like their Lionel to which he responds 'I'm not the Lionel you knew'. I doubt he would have gone back to those ways because of how his character developed.
Clark can barely bring himself to look at Lex; Lex can't seem to stare at anything but Clark. In his obsession with besting Clark, he smirks as Clark breaks their eyeline. But he fails to realize exactly why Clark can't look at him.

It's scenes like this that made Smallville such a special show and even though there were no actual words exchanged here, it really spoke so much volumes and the sombre piano music being played at the end made it even more powerful.
This was such a symbolic way to show Clark and Lex were now at a crossroads and Clark was going to take on Lex no matter what
POWERFUL SCENE! It all begins now.
this scene alone is better then anything DC now
The Title is "Thank you" Mark Snow - TH-cam/Google it.
at least they remembered to put the luthor corp building in the scene
..- Y siempre te detendre!!!.,- mmm....y yo cuento con eso!!!!.....
Wow esta escena se siente le tensión de estos 2 personajes
😭this reminds me of clark father feneral also🥺
I like that Lex allows Clark to be there. Despite being enemies now, he allowed him just this one moment.
I don't think Clark asked for his permission.
@@DessieRL I just meant in the moment during the funeral. Maybe Lex figured Clark would come or was a bit surprised by it. But I found it interesting that he didn't yell at him or just simply tell him to leave, he just let there be silence between them and for Clark to just be there.
@@tjjordan4207 Maybe Lex enjoyed the moment too much. After all he wasn't mourning at all.
@@DessieRLil voulait clairement le narguer en mode ´ I kill our father figure, you can’t do anything
Dude its been 10 years.. im feeling old...those were the best times
LEX LUTHOR IS THE MAN!!! That tiny little grin he gives, then the evil look he gives to Clark as he walks past him. I love it!
Clark looks Soo handsome standing there
Looks like Ian Somerholder (don't remember how it's spelt)
lol clark new y he couldn't tell lex he knew no matter what he just couldn't trust lex to smart move the guy was messed up to the point of obsession
Back the Cw was a good company
this ep is one of the best
The day lex and Clark become enemies....
greatest of all time
Best episode of Smallville hands down
I think it should also be noted that when Lex was presumed dead in the earlier season, Lionel was going to have a massive funeral in the mansion burial grounds (if I recall). Lex gave Lionel not even a standing tombstone. Just a grave marker in a crowded cemetery, which Lionel would have definitely seen as an insult.
Good catch. Lex is black belt petty.
Well. Lionel was a really bad father to Lex his whole life. If I was rich and my father was like Lionel, I'd do the same thing 😂
exactement
@@Barbaresantana merci👍
What an epic scene
All time best scene in series of 10 seasons epic rival legendary long live smallville
Villano y mejor amigo
Well... There's a scene in Superman The Animated Series... where Clark is on way to Lex. Lex is expecting someone else... (maybe Lane...maybe Supes... doesn't matter)... But when Lex sees Clark on the security monitor he just says "Kent."
The tone in the voice (excellent job by voice actor btw)... completely shows that Lex knows Kent is Superman.
This scene was so Epiic.... Clark showing Lex that he will stand in his way no matter if nobody else would
I could never understand why I was suppose to give a shit that Lex killed his father. I don't care that he was helping Clark at the end, that piece of shit murdered his parents and basically abused Lex all of his life....his death was too quick as far as I'm concerned.
Yup. He died a quick and merciful death. Lex should have tortured him
It's a sad world where people are starting to redeem themselves and people use their past as a means to basically say, "Instead of starting to do good in the world like you are doing now, just die." Lionel even wanted to stay in prison to suffer for what he's done but circumstances brought him out of jail and he used it as an opportunity to repent for what he's done.
tr011ful Nope, that mother fucker was evil to the core, if he was given the time he would have gone back to his evil ways.
You knew at this point lex was evil and Clark was gonna stop him. Their Friendship was dead
I always really liked this series, I followed it for a long time afterward, I didn't watch it anymore, I didn't have the time
😢😢😢
If only someone thought Allison what evil was
anyone looking for the track used, its louis febre- they died for you. YOUR WELCOME!
funny thing is next episode instead of worrying about the keys he is back fixated on lana. that did annoy me some what.
