Rance 808 I’ve always wondered why Lex had such a vehement animosity for Kal throughout the years in the films and the comics. Hell even in All-Star his argument was basically, “He’s different because he comes from a different planet and our sun benefits him, don’t you think that’s unfair” Hate and love are two sides of the same coin, Smallville did a fantastic job of showing how close these two men were, brothers in all but blood, meeting as children during the initial meteor shower, and coming back into each other’s orbits during the high school years. It’s so well done how they are such great friends, but the choice to keep their own secrets instead of taking each other into confidence is what ended up tearing apart their relationship and turning their dearest of friendships, into the bitterness of rivalries.

There were good parts like Michael Rosenbaum, John Glover and James Masters' performances. Some good episodes. Lois in general. Justin Hartley's Green Arrow but overall they botched the potential of it its a mid show really 6/10.

Although there is no excuse for Lex killing his father, I do feel sorry for Lex in a way. I mean, Lionel brought him up terribly and let's face it, Jonathan Kent NEVER gave him a fair chance and was extremely judgmental. And when Lex did anything wrong, he was immediately categorized as a villain instead of just a human being who makes mistakes. I will give Lex this - he actually DID try.

Everyone always seems to forget that Clark barely ever told anyone his secret until he had to. Why did Lex, a man that came into Clark's life as a high school freshman, expect him to tell his secret, when he had never told his lifelong friends? Clark accepted him as a friend, yes, but there was always a level of unwariness in his face every time Lex went on his weird tangents.
"Our friendship will mark legend" "I don't want anything to get in the way of our friendship, Clark"
Not to mention that one of Clark's subtle abilities is super-thinking. He ALWAYS could tell when an ill-intended bad guy was in his presence. Clark could tell Lex had one foot in darkness early on. Would you tell a friend your innermost secret if even for a moment you could see darkness in him? No. And it didn't take long for Lex to prove himself not 100% trustworthy. (The room where he keeps the crashed car episode).
People always say "Lex wouldn't've turned on Clark if he'd told him the truth." Maybe. Or maybe Lex would've turned on him SOONER. Someone as sociopathic as Lex would've eventually abused Clark's trust and asked him for something to do with his powers or alien heritage ( Like Earth-2 Lionel Luthor with his Clark).
What if Lex had sucked Clark in and made him just like his Earth-2 counterpart?
I don't believe Lex would've changed. If anything, the unconfirmation of Lex never knowing for sure Clark's secret was what kept him from snapping and eventually try to oppose Clark.

I agree. Clark always prejudges lex (something he probably learned from Jonathan). There is even an episode in wich lex says is this the part where you start prejudging me. When clark needed help lex always answered ofcourse. Still clark calse him selfish and in this case says that he just doesn't try hard enough for people to be proud of him. This just seems like another case of clark not having all the information. Because what started the hate Lional had towards Lex is that he thought that Lex killed his brother. But it was in fact his wife that did it. Lex took the fall for her to protect her from his father. Lex always tried to do good. it just never was recognised. People always thought the worst of him. And when he actually did do something wrong there was no redemtion for him. When clark messed up bigtime afterwards his friends welcome him back with open arms.

clark is a huge hypocrite. he lies again. lex was right about jonathan dying because of clark, and he acts like it isnt his fault. he is directly responsible for his death.
and then he goes on to lie again about their parents feeling the same for lex as they did clark if he tried. he knows damn well that lex did everything he could to get the love of lionel and jonathan. he stuck out his neck for the kents more times then i can remember all he asked for was that they accepted him as a friend. but just as much as he did, they would throw him under the bus. they would use him for his wealth and then shit on him.
Lionel abused him his whole life. And yet lex would keep trying to be a normal family with him well into his adult life. Finally when lionel had ruined him totally, did he try to change it, but it was to late then. Not only that, but he dropped lex for clark.
The only one who treated and did see lex like a human just like the rest was martha. jonathan would yell at him, and then run for his help, and then yell at him after he got it. Same with clarke. Who blamed him for keeping secrets, when he lied to everyone he loved himself on a daily basis, and keep lying after lex trying to get him to open up.

Absolutely! We make our destiny 100%. We always have a choice. But the conflict in this particular scene is that both Lex and Clark aren't somehow 'responsible' for becoming who they are. And that their fathers' deaths are somehow someone's responsibility. Lex of course physically pushed his father out the building, while Clark's father made a deal with 'higher power'. We always get to choose how we respond to the environments we are in. Great acting - I wish the both of them did more film.

3:30 I mean, Clark DID cause Jonathan's death. When he ran away at the end of S2 with the red kryptonite ring, Jonathan had to borrow Kryptonian powers from Jor-El. Human anatomy isn't made for that kind of power so that caused her heart to develop a life-threatening condition. Later on, Clark was killed and brought back to life by Jor-El. He was told someone will eventually die to bring balance to the universe and that person was Lana, but Clark asked for another change so the universe ended up killing his father instead. Whatever way you look at it, Clark did cause, at least indirectly, his father's death.

For a man who chose to literally kill his own father (in the show) all without showing any remorse he certainly made pretending to care about his father’s death so convincing in this scene! 👏Then of course, once Clark (handsome actor Tom Welling) mentions he has “proof”’ all the while looking Lex straight in his eyes Lex then somewhat shows just a bit of emotion (concern or panic) realizing Clark means business & he’s not joking! He will make Lex pay! Job well done to both actors!

Jonathan sealed his fate when he decided to take on powers to go get Clark. It was just a matter of when. Clark did not choose for Jonathan to die over Lana, he was grief stricken and didn't think it through what the consequences would be. Although at the end of the day Jonathan's life was going to end soon no matter..if it wasn't a heart attack that day it probably would have been relatively soon, where Lana had decades of life left in her. Clark didn't kill Jonathan.... Jonathan made his own choices, he chose to protect Clark, he chose to risk his life to go after him.. Clark never asked him to do any of that.. but Jonathan did what any parent would..protect their child because its a burden he chose to take.

Lex was always jealous of for Clark having the family, the support, and love he never had. Lex was the richest man in Smallville, had everything at his disposal, but did not have the one thing he needed, and that was love☹️

    • @Hakoda216
      @Hakoda216 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I won’t say that lex was jealous but I try to understand why lionel was so cold and evil
      He killed his parents
      Shot his son
      Fired employees
      Screwed people over
Lex even had to deal with the house guest of doomsday
Lex was always an after thought to lionel
But he made Martha and Clark priority
Lex wanted love from his father
      He wanted wat Clark had
      But he wasn’t jealous
Life just didn’t make sense to him
Yes he had wealth status connections
      But nobody he could trust
Hence the fortress of a castle for a home
Lex was lost and lived life as an unanswerable question to his father

Technically Clark was to blame for his own father's death. What a hypocrite.

The best part of this show was the dynamic between Clark and Lex. And the fact that you could genuinely see Lexs side of things, disagree with his methods sure but when literally everyone around him is lying. His father, his best friend, all keeping secrets and lying even when it’s so obvious that’s it’s infuriating. You really can argue that Lex isn’t 100% responsible for how he turned out.

@jwb864 Yes, but if Lex found out about Clark he would be a very dangerous threat. Because Lex has a constant dark side to him and will pounce on any chance to betray someone, which for Clark will be too dangerous.
