    Only you fully demonstrated the rack and pinion. Thank you. I was looking all around. If Triton produced a thorough instructional video, I wouldn't have been so in the dark.

    Great review and great channel from a fellow woodworker in the UK. I've got the TRB001 and it's the best router I own hands down. Keep up the good work buddy! 👍🛠

    Hallelujah! This is the only video I think that compares all three, so thank you for that.
    Question: I already have the big boy in a router table but would like another router for a sled to flatten slabs. That means it will have a big fat flattening router bit in it. Do you think the MOF001 would do the job?

    That cutter at 13:38 is for router table use only - you should not use a bit of that size in a handheld router unless you are taking off a mm at a time and even then you are destabilising the machine - I know a fella lost his big toe when a router flipped out of his hands and hit terra firma - plus, if that bit shatters thats a lot of shrapnel at balls height

      I bought it just for using on router table as it has Bit adjustment from above table and change bit from above table and I am having the speed control disconnected and the cables connected to a long chord with a pot that replaces the internal a local power tool repair company is doing that for me and thanks for warning will look to see if I can install shielding

    I’m totally dewalt for mostly everything but I have just bought the TRA001 along with the work centre and the saw module and the router module used.
    In very good condition. The router is very very good and so much power!!!
    Very well made tools and nothing to me indicates diy. Very pleased indeed.

    Hi Crimson. I have one TRA001 and a RTA300 router table both in the box bought 12 years ago when I was living in England. I'm waiting to have time to mount a small workshop on my retirement to give a good use for that . Looking forward to it!

    I have had this router for more than 2 yrs. Great product. I use it a lot and it has never let me down. Heaps of safety features, and well worth the money.

    I've just ordered the small model, since Ben said that it's more than good enough for guitar work and I've used one of them when I was there. It's a nuisance that they don't include the 1/4" collet, though, because from what I can see that's the most popular size for router bits. Next is 1/2", and the other sizes - 12mm and 6mm - seem virtually useless. This was even true on Amazon Germany, in case anybody thinks it will be different in Europe! I solved it by ordering the 1/4" collet at the same time, but it's a shame to have to incur the additional expense when two of the three supplied collets will not be used.I think that a follow-up video on router bits would be very welcome. As a novice woodworker, I spent a lot of time looking for suitable router bits for guitar-building, reading reviews of cheap bits that talk about wood tearing or breakages (particularly on bits with bearings), but I wasn't willing to spend over £200 on the Radian bits sold by Crimson (sorry!) - I'm sure they are a lot better, but for the number of times I'm likely to use them, that's too expensive. In the end, I bought a set of 15 Bosch bits, and a Trend template profiler - I hope these are good choices, but it's a leap in the dark for me.

    The adaptor for the plug is a "Shuco" adaptor as used in Germany and other EU countries, the US or North American version would be a 110V (60Hz) unit as apposed to a 230V (50Hz)

    I have a couple of these mainly never seen as they are in router tables, I can not live without them, above table bit change micro winder they are the best thing to happen to routers in years. I just need the small one. one tip if you are mounting it to a router table, use the fence screw as it makes a strong fix, that's a tip I got from Triton.
    Dave

    • @dap2112
      @dap2112 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Rowan the fence screws are the two black knobs on the base you use to attach the fence, if you buy longer ones from B&Q you can attach the router to a table insert direct, you do not remove the base plate cover and use those holes as its weak, my way you are bolting the router right through the base to the plate, Take my word it works so much better, I hope this makes sense

    The big disadvantage of the TRA001 is its 2400 watts. This is because you can have a maximum of 3600 watts on an electrical group. If you have a dust extraction, lighting and heating on at the same time, things will go wrong. With the JOF001 you have 1300 watts more space.

    Thank you for a top review of these routers. It has influenced me to buy the large one but with a Kreg insert plate. Which is available as a pre-drilled item to accept Triton routers (so more than one hole for the winders of the various size routers). To avoid unnecessary holes in the plate, I bought the blank plate which I will drill myself. I noticed that the router guide fence system has some similar features to the "M-Power" router accessory and would be very easy to upgrade to perform all the functions of the M-Power base.
    You mentioned the 20 minute router bit change. I had a similar experience with a cheap nasty router and table combo where my only option was a scissor jack from a car to raise and lower the router. It is such a pain to set up I presently use it as a dedicated 3 mm round over bit router.

    Good review, but one safety feature you missed in the safety interlock on the power switch cover that prevents it from sliding open when the router is fully plunged to change bits. Prevents accidental starting of the router while fully plunged.

    Hey mate, still loving the videos. I have decided to start making my own little videos. I actually put up my first legit guitar video today. I was hoping if you had a couple minutes (4 to be exact) maybe you could weigh in on what I've done and whether I've made a terrible mistake. I almost don't want to know. I refinished a maple neck with Tung oil. Feels great....but I'm worried about it long term,

    What do you reckon to the router table? Reviews are somewhat mixed. The newer Twixy one looks the business, but is a lot of money. Can't find a comparison review at all, and most reviews you can find(Amazon etc) are buyer reviews, not user reviews. Its all "stayed in all day but the postman got lost" and "instructions are poor, spent all night putting it together" So, as a user, what do you think?

    I built Amy router table for the largest of the his bunch. Seeing that I had to activate the switch manually I made a door for access. Dust doesn't escape the door and I prefer his to having to use two wrenches like my other routers. Easily the best router I've ever owned.

    Hi Ben! I only have a 1/4" router, Bosch POF 1400 ACE. Is it necessary to have a 1/2" router? I see that many good router bits are made for 1/2" collets... I also want a router to put under a Kreg router table. Therefore I have been looking at the Tritons, they seem great to use as a table router. Will the JOF101 be strong enough for that task. I am building guitars too (in the wee beginning), and following your channel! Great videos!

    I did something when I started routing with the fantastic mid sized unit mounted in the router table. Started to rabbit with a 1/2" datto 3/8" deep and it started jumping agianst my feather board and just quit. I have not been able to restart it. It is such a great router I hate to use it for a decoration. Do you know why it would do this. I was routing a piece of hemlock with a sharp bit. You really did a Great demo. If I get it running I will be ordering the fine adjustment wrench and the guild which did not come with the unit. This was only the second piece of wood I have used it on and the first piece went well but it was a softer wood. It is the best router I have ever used because of all the great features. Thank you.

    In the video you've shown, that if you activated the router you can't push it completely down anymore.

    I bought the TRA001 as it is for on a router table as Triton Routers are the only Routers sold in Australia that you can adjust the height and change the bit from above the table, originally with this model the height could not be adjusted from above the table, this was introduced with the new model a 2hp but eventually became a feature in all them.
    Triton used to be an Australian Brand but they now thank us by price Gouging us as they cost more in Australia than other countries but the Retailers have had to drop prices as UK retailers were cashing in selling them a lot cheaper in Ebay with freight included in the price and they are really cheap in USA thanks for showing us as the MANUAL IS SHIT print and photos to small and too much info missing and we don’t get the DVD here.

    It appears that with a long bit in the table, you would be unable to use the height winding handle (on the little JOF router) as it would hit the bit when it is extended quite a way. Anybody have any problems with this? See around 17:10 for a visual on this - he's getting awfully close to the bit.

    Wow, you couldn't be more à propos with those. I almost spent nearly 400 dollars (on sale) for the big multibase Milwaukee router a few days ago. I've seen the Triton ones at Home Depot here in Canada before. They looked pretty nifty but I passed thinking they were probably cheap pieces of plastic that wouldn't last beyond routing soft wood once in a while. I'll probably end up picking up the little beast for now. Unfortunately they don't sell the table here so...

    Was in the market for a new router since my shop was broken into several months ago and having to replace a lot of my tools including a router. I watched your review of the triton yesterday and placed an order today for the 3 1/4 router along with a mounting plate from kreg. Should receive within three or four days.
    My question (without having to watch the review again) was the router bit you were telling use about. All my bits were stolen except a couple that I had problem finding. Where can I find information on those bits?
    Thanks for the review and other related information.

    • @CrimsonCustomGuitars
      @CrimsonCustomGuitars  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is more about how large, sharp and how fast the cutter clears chips though power does also come into it a bit. It tend to take about 6mm passes most of the time with much bigger if needed with a good cutter and Triton router.. B

    I have to say fella, great to see a looong review, 'Wilf Ord' must find 60 mins of Strictly come dancing more interesting lol
    I have the TRB001 in a table, and that safety on off switch guard drives me fooking nuts!!! How many routers have you accidentally started underneath a table. Not to mention if you forget to lock the router at the cutting height (when in a table) the router slowly drops depth a very bad thing for those who haven't been told as the instructions say nothing about that when mounted in the table. But for the cost a very good router none the less. But as routers go the OF 2200 creams them all, in set up speed, functions 'click attach' dust collection, and so way way more quieter! Sell'em all fella, buy a Festool lol

    in the 3.25 how ever I would match it with the kreg Router table and kreg has
    a base plate for triton ther is one thing I would add and that when you put
    your router bit in there is a little rubber pic you can get to put in the router
    chock fist that will stop the heat from the router bit going to your chuck
    and stop it from heat up and sticking like it did for you BUT YOU ARE RIGHT
    IT'S THE BEST I HAVE SEEN THANK YOU GREAT SHOW

  • @JontoDickens
    @JontoDickens 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have the MOF model and really like it but there are some considerations to bear in mind with the triton range. Firstly there are very few aftermarket jigs that are compatible, mainly the ones that utilise the rods that are standard on most routers for the guide fence. Also the in/off switch can take some getting used to especially if you are familiar with the trigger style power buttons. Visibility is not especially good but at the same time it's not terrible. Finally the guide bushing system is quite expensive and I can't find an alternative to the expensive tritons own set. I am contemplating buying a trend sub-base so that some other (cheaper) makes will fit. Bearing everything in mind it is still the best router for my needs, it's ability to be a great hand held router AND a great router for a table makes it a better alternative to 2 separate routers. The rack and pinion works very well and even though you lose some aftermarket alternatives the base/fence is very good!

    I liked the look of this but Triton have failed to respond to two questions I have sent through their website so clearly they have no technical support at all. This is enough to make me choose Makita or Bosch or anyone whio can be bothered to answer their customers technicl queries.

    3 1/4 hp the best for bench table, with an ( krieg, infiniti rokeler etc.)aluminium top table adapter , only the router table adapter for porter cable or bosh is more expensive (300$ dollar usa) plus router,.very good for kitchen cabinet doors, strong for big router bits, very simple adjust at top table.

    Have up-graded to the small Triton Router - JOF 001, after watching your head to head.
    I still use my original Triton Mk3 workstation, with original Router/jigsaw table. which uses clamps. What is the correct way to attach the JOH 001 to this old chassis. The router base is high. Can I use the two spring-loaded screws you demonstrated to attach to a pair of slots in the chassis? Any Comment appreciated. John Ryan

      +woodworker Bit late...but for others.. you can buy, cheaply, collet adapters from 1/2" to 5/16", which is 8mm (or close enough to work well)

    Dude urt funny as hell .. U just kept talking and talking when u had already said enough. U almost lost it there for a moment but u caught it back and kept on talking for no reason..
    About the routers though.. I suspect Triton will be cringing at u telling ppl to spend their money and buy the routers.. All u had to do was review the thing and show us how it worked. That would've been very interesting mate.. So u got them all for free? I guess the 300,000 subs on ur channel helps get a lotta free stuff..
    This is the funniest review I've ever seen pal.. U made it a good watch tbf to u so thanks and ur the 1dt reviewer to actually give out the prices on these tools so I salute u Sir for that.. Take care bro..

    Do you think that the little jof001 it's enough to build a guitar?

    • @CrimsonCustomGuitars
      @CrimsonCustomGuitars  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely, it is strong enough for sure and still takes full size half inch cutters.. Perfect, though it doesn't have since of the cooler features of its bigger brothers of course. We've used ours constantly since this video and love it!

      +Crimson Custom Guitars You're a good salesman Ben (obviously) and another JOF001 sold from your recommendation. Just bought myself one. Should half the time it takes me to round over the edges on my Guitars, over using a rasp lol. Now to build a table to go with it. :).
      Ben is it possible to put a sanding drum into JOF001 and use it as a bobbin sander? This would be done using a bench. It would save me a fortune having to buy a dedicated bobbin sander when I need other tools.

  • @richardgraham65
    @richardgraham65 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice hair! Where do you get it cut? As for Triton, their customer service is terrible and their tool quality is pretty poor, I would stick with Makita, not much in it, but Makita just makes a bit better tool.

    Struggles a lot to get the fence assembled then: "Couldn't be easier." Lol.
    Safety or not - I can see myself modifying that switch. Not having the possibility to override that feature when mounted in a table is going to be a pita.

    Don't try to order one from Beaver Industrial Supply. They will let you believe it's in stock and ready to ship, take your money, and then leave it up to you to call and find out that the item is backordered.

    I'm not impressed with the fence system, as it means you have a metal base to the router which can leave marks on your workpiece. I use mine permanently in my router table and it is excellent.

    Terrible product and customer service. I bought one of these routers and after a month of use something metal was rattling on the inside and moving up and down was very un-smooth right out of the box. I sent it back and they agreed it was a manufacturing default but never sent a replacement or refund. Robbed me. Total nightmare, also using a router built like that could be extremely dangerous. Made in china garbage. Horrible experience, I hope I save you from making the same mistake.

      you were just unlucky as I checked around and received all good reports especially from a guy who teaches cabinet making as well as being a working cabinet maker and his students all buy them and like most power tools there are problems some time , I find China makes a lot of good products when I look around my house and workshop just about everything that runs on electricity is built in China including my mobile phone and computer. Not much made in the USA any more same as here. They also have built a fine High Speed Rail system

    Hi Ben I just want you to know that it was painful listening to you doing your salesman act while endorsing the Triton products and service. Going by the reviews I read by many of the people who bought this product and service they were not one bit happy. In my opinion you are more interested in your relationship with Triton for future years that that of your customers and followers. This is wrong as you only have the product a short time, how can you know what problems you might have in the future with the service or the product. Just remember your customers are worth more that a few free power tools every now and then. I'm not sure if I can ever believe anything you say in the future after this demonstration you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours. I think we deserve an honest update on your endorsement.

      Really? Attack a man's character, when he was completely honest up front about how he got them and gave an honest initial review? Yes, a follow up review would be nice after all these years but why not just ask the man to do so instead of impugning his honor?
