Finally a bass! I've learned a lot about guitars from this channel (and binging all of your guitar builds in like the last month) but basses were still new. This will help a lot trying to build my current project (a double-neck bass and guitar). I'm still new to building instruments, but I love woodwork and this seemed like a super fun direction to travel next. Looking forward to the end of this build!
These are the style of videos that inspired me, a non guitar player, to make a guitar. So much inspiration watching someone do it. One thing I notice more is how you route the body shape to avoid tear out. I didn't pick up on this when I first watched these kind of vids. You were talking to me when you said someone building in their garage with limited tools. I did this! Web search for "andyfriedl supersonic" if you want to see how I did it. Thanks for the motivation!
Love it is a bass finally, I'm a bass player myself and thanks to you I've built several for my own personal use. Need to do something crazy like what you did with the kit build where you honeycombed it and did the led light. That was one my favorite builds... Just so cool with the design choices.
I just went back into some of your older videos trying to figure out just how long I’ve been watching this channel. I know it’s at least five years or more. But anyway I came across a video from 8 years ago. Titled “are 3d printed guitars the future of guitar building” or something like that. It made me laugh. Given all the beautiful lumber you’ve used for your guitars. Even resin! But it might be safe to say that thankfully 😅. 3D printing has not made its cold and ugly way into taking over the world of amazing beautiful woods in instrument building. Thanks again for sharing your craft Ben and company!
I like it. I never built a bass myself so I was curious about the neck differences so I will keep watching. Nice to see I would make the body almost the same exact way as you. I just use a different 2inch spiral router bit for the body so I don't have to worry about grain and routing direction. Otherwise I would have done nearly the exact same thing, including the smaller radius for the neck area (I was worried you weren't going to do that but you did) Thanks for all the videos Ben. I've learned a lot from them!
@@paulmatthews4293 Half inch shank, 2 inch long pattern bit (has bearing even with cutter) with spiral cut. If you see one of those it is literally made for cutting out guitar bodies attached to a template. I'm sure it can be used for other things, but it was designed specifically for that. Guitar bodies are almost universally 1.75 inches thick (solid body electric).
I like where this is going. Keep it simple and straight forward. Bodies are the easy fun parts. I look forward to see what stupid simple straight up techniques you use for the neck build and fret cutting.
I'd like to see it with a colourful (red maybe) translucent clear lacquer to make it pop. Like the instructions added to the video whilst you work....great job.
This is going to be lovely when it's done! The figuring is beautiful! Almost a shame it's not book matched 😜 One question... not sure why you drilled from the neck pocket. I'd get it on a guitar with two humbuckers... Not sure here. 😁
It's about time! I suspect that one of your surprises may be LED fret markers, otherwise there would be no reason a P bass would need a wiring hole drilled from the neck pocket to the pickup cavity. I guess we'll wait and see 😀

Greetings from the USA Ben; While I'm not really a guitarist at all, I do on occasion build instruments. I'm glad to see a bass build. That is some gorgeous wood. I can't wait to see how you make it very special. I particularly want to see what is done to the neck to make it strong enough to keep from deforming under the pressure of those huge strings. I built a water jug base and it turned out very nice, but I'm going to have to do something to strengthen the neck as the string pressure is lifting the neck at the nut way too much. It's fretless, so it's not as critical as in a fretted instrument. So, build on my friend and I'll sit on the edge of my chair watching every minute of your videos. Thanks from a rather old (78 years) online student.

I particularly want to see what is done to the neck to make it strong enough to keep from deforming under the pressure of those huge strings. I built a water jug base and it turned out very nice, but I'm going to have to do something to strengthen the neck as the string pressure is lifting the neck at the nut way too much. It's fretless, so it's not as critical as in a fretted instrument. So, build on my friend and I'll sit on the edge of my chair watching every minute of your videos. Really enjoying watching this build. Beautiful timber selections. As for suggestions on what to do with it its very simple if not obvious. Sell it to me when you are done. I would love to give it to our bass player to be used on stage, when we can finally get back to performing. Anyway ... please keep up the videos. Its nice to sit here on the other side of the world and watch.
