    In a nutshell it seemed that the ipd cam pulled harder in the topend with a smoother torque curve while the stock cam had more torque down low making it more difficult to modulate traction. NOTE : depending on your setup results may vary. With a bigger turbo , more boost , and supporting modifications this cam will generally have a much greater effect on performance compared to an all stock b230ft.

    that volvo under 1000 dollars?!Here in Finland, even the most abused missiles cost here 1500-3000e turbo or N/A. The volvo prices are going up up up. Im glad i have 940 na manual 2.3 and very mint condition 740 wagon with b5244T and ZF transmission. Keep up the good work! love your content man!

      I bought my 940 LPT for 30.000kr in very good condition. It's my daily and has been treating me well. I've done a few mods to it like a new wastegate @ 0.8 bar and a tune. should be like 160hp, very sippy compared to the stock tune and 0.3 bar which is 136hp from factory.
      There are still some good cars to be found, but they are getting rare to find in decent condition.

      B Swerve it’s a 1989 740 gle intercooler, I snatched it for a thousand bucks which was a steal for how clean it was. Super fun car you should definetely get into one.

      the best ones are the 940's from 1995-1998 with the B230FT, that engine has oilsquirters for underside piston cooling. Also best galvanised car body, electric cooler fan, SRS, ABS standard, ECC, slightly bigger brakes on the front.

    Another cheap upgrade is getting rid of the clutchfan and go electric (if the car doesn't already have one). It makes a big difference on high revs. And if the clutch is stuck it makes an even larger difference. A fan is actually used as a revlimiter in various old mechanical applications.

      engine masters did a series on 18" fans, a steel fan Bolton the engine stole almost 30hp at 6k rpm compared to an electric fan, clutch fan was around 10-15hp i believe from memory, but that depends on the clutch allot, it's crazy what a difference a electric fan can help

    Congrats On the sponsor!! The color on that car is awesome. IPD Upgraded cam, followed with the Ipd shim kit is the bees knees. Adjusting the valves properly makes a UUGE difference in anything. And it's relatively easy to do , per IPD tools and parts, since you are there. I used both on a buddies Na wagon a couple of years ago with good results. But do not forget to get the hushers, the rubber o rings that take the sewing machine noise out of the redblock mostly-should never be overlooked-and go under the shims. Because of the ignition distributor being driven off the cam, You are right, these newer engines do not get any added benefit for the adjustable gear, in stock ecu form, anyways , as it jacks up the ignition a touch, when changed.. Great tip about the cam retainers, absolutely put them on exactly the way they came off! Great Job! Hell I may even Subscribe 😉

      I noticed the distributor is also slotted, i wonder if the distrubutor was adjusted to match stock timing once the cam gear was adjusted would it then provide more benefit?

    Just like ANY retail business, IPD only carries what they WANT to sell. Br super careful in buying aftermarket stuff, as they will say it's NOT inferior, yet they are. Especially the 2,7,940 aftermarket. But I give them props for the stuff THEY make. I've got the sway bar kit, HD springs, turbo cam on my 940, and stuff like the subframe bushing insert kit on my XC70(p2) and appreciate their stuff for sure. And they are 10 min away from my house!! Doesn't hurt.

    My 1991 Volvo 740 Turbo lacks power Mitsubishi Turbo has major engine piston slap & engine knock from one time running low on oil. Recently boggs down a lot stock they had B230FT 162 hp 195 torque says online. I have invested over $10k over 10 years now in maintenance. I now use Castrol Edge 10w30 fully synthetic now add Lucas oil stop as it leaks from everywhere! Plan to change to newer B230FT with squirters in near future.

    Have you heard of PerfExpert? It's an app you install on your phone, and when correctly set up functions fairly well as a dyno. It's not free though, so maybe get in touch with the developers and check if they too would want to sponsor a video where you take a car with a known power and torque figures and compare it to the apps numbers after a few runs.

    21:32 probably just the camera angle but it looks like your timing is off by one tooth. Dunno about Volvo’s but with Honda b motors this was a pain. Probably will not make a big difference either way. Sick job though. Is there any break in period?

    Whoa... no break in? The extra noise comes from the rubber "hushers" that sit between the shim bucket and the top of the valve springs.
    This cam makes your non-interference motor into an interference motor so valve clearance is a pretty important thing to check. I'd suggest removing the hushers (or what's left of them) and renting a shim kit and tool to do it right for the long haul.

    Finally after months of hunting for a brick here in GA. I was at my usual dealer auction in TN. Thursday. And I be damned if a 1993 940 turbo wagon with saw blade wheels came thru. Unbelievable condition. 3 owner no accident Carfax. Sooooooo I jumped in on the 200 bid and bid it to $1200. One last bid came in at last second for 1300 Add the $375 buy fee. Made it out of my price range. Damn cars are so rare here. Where is my $500 740? Lol

    Next you should try the Kinugawa 13c to 19t conversion kit. I can send you a tune file for it if you have someone to burn a chip for you. For 150 bucks and that cam you have it will make a huge difference. At about 1 bar you have all the power that the stock injectors can give you

    STS machining makes that same plate, but powder coated black. it's a very nice touch I have. I'm thinking about getting the iPD cam aswell. do you think the stock gear gives the best output?

      I do believe the stock cam gear will be the best setting on most peoples b230ft setups.

I ordered the ipd turbo can kit tonight with all the front and rear cam seals, I also grabbed the hushers for under the caps, new valve cover seal and the adjustable gear I probably won't use.     if you run more that 15 psi you need the transmission accumulator mod.. heres mine. i have a bigger turbo and ipd turbo cam as well

    Surprised you also did not get ipds adjustable cam gear that by itself can change the power curve of the B series motors be it turbo or not. I strongly suggest you test one out i personally have one in all 3 (242gt,244glt,245) of my 230ft swapped cars.

    The reason your friens cam locked it self is beacuse they mount the mounts then bore.

      What actually happened is I swapped the head and cam at the same time and accidentally used the cam caps from one head on the other. I had them in the right order but on the wrong head 🤦‍♂️
