This girl is trapped and being used by a guy 10 years older than her who refuses to get a job, esp tragic since he could get paid well with his degree but mooches off her instead :(

Hey everyone this is Deborah! :)
First off, thanks for taking an interest in this series and watching a snippet of our personal lives~ I'm in fact shocked and humbled to see that my husband and I have garnered so much attention haha I never would have expected this! I've read and felt every word of both concern and support; I appreciate them all and will reflect on them~
One very important detail I'd love for everyone to keep in mind as they watch this is that although this might be considered a reality show, it is still a crafted and heavily edited story! We were asked to portray certain emotions, actions, and lines to fit said story. It doesn't fully represent the both of us and our personalities. We hope to shed more light and clarity on the filming process, who we are and what we do in due time!

Deborah should do her hair at night, then put her hair in a pineapple updo and put on a satin or silk scarf. Undo the pineapple updo in the morning, spray some oil and her hair will look good. That should only take about 15-20 minutes of her time in the mornings. If her hair gets tangled after she washes it, she does not need to cut it, just use a wide tooth comb and leave in detangler to detangle her hair.
I wonder if they didn't just do this for TV... Doing your hair at night or weekend is basic coily hair 101.
@@epifanny Agreed I just about always do my hair at night and wrap it up in a scarf lmao 👍 it was just for the story that they asked for me to do it during the day.
At night she is working as well she gets home at 11pm and starts working on her children book right after I am sure she just doesn't have the time nor the energy to deal with her hair right after work. I do mine on the weekend as well and like on Wednesday just to bring a little life into it.
Not everyone knows to to best take care of their hair. I know I suck at doing mine.
@@cpwwjd69 You are on TH-cam commenting so you obviously know how to use the internet. TH-cam and Google has thousands of videos teaching Black women and men how to care for their natural hair. I learned so much from TH-cam about how to properly take care of my kinky/coily hair. Doing your hair overnight is just common sense. Ironing your clothes and fixing your lunch overnight is common sense.

This proves that nothing's impossible to experience in the name of love. Some couples aren't just understanding of each other's feelings, but some like them, love and accept each other that's why they are living a happy and loving life. They are both inspiring. The husband is dedicated to her wife, from waking her up in the morning to cleaning their home, and to fulfilling his passion for music. His wife is also a great woman who has a dedication to him from moving to Korea to working as an English teacher and also fulfilling her passion for art. I wish them all the best.

@Aciel, you don't want a husband in the entertainment business, unless he's already established and has a decent income. Teachers don't make much in South Korea. If this couple wants kids, he better get his act together, because his no income won't cut it for long.

@@acielvert8573 that man doesn't exist, and won't ever exist if he's working to have the best family possible. The man you want will, at best, you'll get lots of kisses, butt grabs, gifts, vacations, and maybe decent sex. There's not enough time in the year to be that Korean husband for a hard-working man. I believe the Korean husband thinks being loving is adequate for his relationship void of financial security. That trade-off will debilitate any chance of happiness longer-term. She barely looks at him while with the hosts. And doesn't kiss him before she leaves to work. Hopefully I'm wrong on this but wisdom says otherwise.

For anyone who doesn’t know, or think that the guy was being ignorant, he wasn’t. He was actually asking her IF she permed her hair. When Koreans want to add curls to their hair, they go to a salon to perm it. He wasn’t trying to be ignorant. Showing her with her natural hair on this show does help educate them, because they just wouldn’t know. I love it! 💜
Girl, they've had Black women on this show. How many times are they gonna ask the same question?
@Jessica lol most non-black people can tell she is black. They just don't understand how our hair works. Koreans that I've met asked if my hair hurts when it grows out of my head because they thought the ends had thorns that pierce our scalps. Lmao they don't even know where they heard it from, but they told me a lot of Koreans think the same. They also thought protective styling meant using these styles to protect our scalp from our own hair. They weren't trying to be mean, so I corrected them nicely.

@Jessica she definitely looks Black to Asians and we do know about the hair. We are also aware that some black people are lighter skinned, more like brown but we still recognise the hair and facial features.

Although the commentator meant well I don't think Cruella was a fair comparison. This lady is beautiful, kind, vivacious, and young - everything Cruella is not. Some people start to grey in their 20s. You can see from her face that she is still young. She is wearing no makeup and still looks so beautiful. There are so many comments here applauding her husband. Yes her husband is helpful, does chores, and feels guilty about not contributing to their financial pot more. However how about applauding the wife who is working until 11pm at night in order to support them financially and is only able to pursue her dreams in her spare time?
Same here. Especially with the Cruella remark. But even though he made a pot shot about her looks - and heaven knows they COMPLETELY roasted the husband about his job situation - I am still glad to see that they got on the show. Even though so far the panelists have not acknowledged it, this couple appears to be happy with each other, and they love AND support each other. I've seen comparatively few episodes where the husband (Korean or otherwise) actually pitched in and was actively supportive.
Deborah might not fit the traditional Korean standards for beauty, but obviously just based on the comments for this episode, people in many other parts of the world find her to be lovely, inside and out. No knock against the panelists or Koreans in general - people are gonna have their own views on what they find attractive.
Most of us who watch these episodes know that the guy with the glasses especially is known to say and do outrageous things. That is his 'schtick'. This time I choose to ignore his comments about Deborah's appearance. I don't think that he intended to be insulting; rather his comments reflected his ignorance of someone from a group that he apparently has very little to no prior acquaintance with. Everyone has blind spots. I guess his are Black people.
@@claudiawoods4382 Having watched easily 50 or more videos from this channel I can attest that the commentator was not ill intentioned. He has called out/ or complimented husbands and wives of all different ethnicities (including Korean). I think he was "thinking out loud" when he said Cruella because it is so unusual to see a patch of grey. A dermatologist or tricologist would say normally the greys start growing from the temple area and down.

For everyone fantasizing this relationship, first go watch part 2 of this show. Believe me, that husband of hers isn't as nice as they portray him here in part 1. I don't envy her. I actually feel sad for her. Marriage shouldn't be that hard and stressful. She is in a foreign country, working so hard and financially taking care of a man. This is role reversal. I don't want a marriage like that if I have to be taking care of the man and paying the bills. I already watched part 2 of this show and let me tell you, in part 2 you can clearly see that he doesn't treat her good. I don't know why some black women have this korean boo fantasy. I would never leave my home country and move to a foreign country for love, study a whole new language, only to end up financially struggling in a marriage with a jobless husband..no way. From what i've seen from both videos, this man doesn't really care for her and he's just using her. I don't think that she would marry a jobless black man, so why give that korean guy a pass. A man is supposed to be financially stable to support his wife and family. Watching videos like these, seeing black women in such poor relationships makes me sad. Was she that desperate to get married, that she ended up with a guy like him? She's young, pretty, hardworking and ambitious. She deserves better and she can do better.
As for him not treating her good that is indeed a red flag for her to move on however we're in a new era of thought people can and should decide the dynamic that works for them. There's really nothing wrong with her being the bread winner. If it were the reverse it would be the man that's suffering as if it's biological or something. No one would say anything if she was the leech. No one deserves to struggle and everyone should have the right to choose their relationship dynamic. If she wants to support him and his dreams big up to her. Though I feel like he needs to work on not trying to stress her when she's had such a tiring day.
Facts on facts. He really needs to find a job asap. The host in the yellow hat continually roasts him for a reason. If I had a daughter I would advise her to not pursue a relationship with such a man. She seems like a good person, she just needs to know her worth and have more confidence.

@@Kim-ou7lc it's not that women can't. It's just that society will make a women feel like she's in the wrong. That she's desperate and being played. Personally I think we should all decide what dynamic we have. Some women want to be taken care of and some women want to provide. We shouldn't be making people feel bad about doing what works for them. It's just an after effect of patriarchy and gender roles. Most people will happily accept a man struggling like she was for the family as if it's just biology and if a women does it ; it's against nature.

I don’t think they were implying that she needs to perm it, I think they just thought her hair was curly BECAUSE she permed it. In Korea, people perm their hair when they want curls. My best friend had a Korean friend who genuinely asked why black people often get perms… you’re right, they’re ignorant, but they were asking if she had gotten a perm to get the curls, not saying she should get rid of them.

I believe this was meant to be endearing and I do love how this husband supports wife. That being said, this is low key offensive to black people and our hair(or others with textured hair). Our hair is not weird or a struggle. It’s just different, there are many different textures and types of hair. It’s a little hurtful to see some textures depicted as difficult or “bad”. To end on a positive however, I will say this couple seems very loving and I’m happy for them.
