This is one of the major longstanding conversations I have with parents and coaches of goalies I work with. There's still a lot of "but what about when they're on their feet?" mentality, and a real resistance to accepting that most saves are not made from a standing position anymore.

So true! Going into the hockey store and standing with a stick in your hand has been ingrained into our culture for so long

I started playing goalie at 35 after doing high level D in my younger days and A level beer league. I am getting fairly good for beer league but i still struggle with stick length, i switch between 25 and 26 bauer sticks all the time. I have a pro stock Gruaber 25" but with his custom paddle shoulder its more like 24.5 and that is my favorite for Bfly. I like in the video how you show the shoulder and elbow bend and why its to long etc. also your correct sized size stick you can really see how you head stays over the puck and angle down while in bfly. that helps alot for see that although a 26 feels comfortable its to big for me.
    I am 5'9 . wear bauer M pads.

Thanks Rob! I appreciate your feedback. You're absolutely right, sometimes it's the uncomfortable size that we've got to get used to because it's the best for us

Hey there, out of curiosity for comparison, how tall are you?

Off of my skates, I'm 5'11, but generally height won't be a good indication of stick size. Guys in the NHL are 6'2 and using 24" paddles! Some people have larger torsos and shorter legs and vice versa. The best test will be to be in the butterfly to see where the blocker and stick blade fall!
