A funny trick I used to do playing Sonic CD on my tablet (like two or three years ago) was to have internet while the game booted up, and then once I got into the stage, just leave the house and the game would still play just fine, no ads or constant internet required, and thus I could play Sonic CD (and Sonic 2 as well if I'm remembering correctly) without internet. By the way, I don't think the trick works anymore :(
@2fernandoc1 hey so wehn I would play sonic sega forever games I had my data on my sim emptied then before I entered I opened the data then no ads and it would work.

Nice job on the video. 👍 When I saw the Crazy Taxi added to Sega Forever it made me wonder if other Dreamcast games like Sonic Adventure would be added. But then I remembered some sections of those games would be hard(or too annoying) to do on a touch pad.

The cool part about the android version is that restoring the purchase allows you to install the legacy versions instead of just removing ads from the SF versions. The aspect ration is weird on ultrawide displays but its still better than what we have now
This is why I downloaded old versions of classic sonic games from some apk website except CD btw because when I opened app after it says download failed so it was hard from last year for me but I did got to work on happymods when It unlocked everything on game so I'm good to go without the ads.

Thank you for talking about these things, I genuinely thought nobody cared. It's sad to see these apps continue to degrade in quality. CD has managed to avoid the worst of it, thankfully, but it's not totally unscathed. Sound effects that were definitely still there pre-Sega Forever have been missing for years, namely the rolling sound, the signpost sound and the register sound when the score tally ends. And Sonic 1's special stage editor, the poor thing. It relies on debug mode, so when the forced pausing began, that made it harder to use. Especially when an ad would play every single time. It seems the ad frequency has been reduced since then, but even so it's still annoying. Random side note, CD's description in the Play Store gets its trivia wrong. Sonic CD was not the first game to feature Sonic speaking, I believe that was 1991's Waku Waku Sonic Patrol Car. It also claims the infamous hidden message was meant to scare pirates. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't that disproven a long time ago?
It seems whoever's in charge of SEGA's mobile division isn't aware of how to handle their mobile games. For example, as a way to promote the new season of Sonic Prime, SEGA Hardlight quite literally ported over Sonic Dash+ (the iOS version of Sonic Dash that doesn't have *any* microtransactions or ads on top of a few improvements compared to the original), removed the plus and slapped a poorly made fancy new logo on it and made a few characters from Sonic Prime that were already available in the original game default characters (aka, characters you get immediately after clearing the tutorial). As a result, the original Sonic Dash is now much less enjoyable thanks to a new update that forces you to collect cards, just like in Sonic Forces: Speed Battle except much, *much,* *_much_* worse. And I do mean "just like in Sonic Forces: Speed Battle" as now if you want to upgrade a specific character you now need a specific number of cards on top of having the necessary amount of Rings. Which sucks for OG players who may have characters from crossover events as now if they didn't max out a specific crossover character they straight up *can't* and are forever stuck with those characters at specific stats. The kicker is SEGA Hardlight promoted the update by saying it would make collecting characters "faster" when in reality it's slower, by a *wide* margin. Normally events allowing you to get specific characters would require 250, 500 or even 1,000 Character Tokens or collecting the four items scattered throughout your runs depending on the event. With characters that have a nice balance between their "Dash" gauge and how long magnets last it's possible to get the necessary Character Tokens *way* before the event's even close to halfway done. They also flat out said the best part of Sonic Dash was the character collecting which kinda confuses me considering Sonic Dash is literally just a high score simulator without any purpose. Once you get that one character that you either were really hyped for or has some incredible stats you really like, every other character just feels like unnecessary fluff and you're only collecting them for the sake of collecting. There's no passive bonus for collecting characters or some kind of meta dictating which characters are the most OP on the nonexistent leaderboards. Hell, there isn't even a standard multiplayer race to see how far you can travel compared to your rival(s) or compete to see who can get the the highest score in a single run. We're just lucky the most SEGA Forever did in terms of money making was make you pay for no ads, can you imagine having to actively pay for lives, rings or even to try the special stages? That thought absolutely *terrifies* me.
THEY'VE GIVEN SONIC DASH THE SPEED BATTLE CARD SYSTEM?! Sonic dash was my first ever sonic game (no joke) and this is KILLING me. The reason i EVER got excited unlocking a new character was cause "oh cool sonic character" their stats are premade, sure, BUT YOU CAN LITERALLY CHANGE THEIR WHOLE STATS SO WHATS THE POINT OF MAKING THEM HARDER TO UNLOCK?! Heck in speed battle and dash 2 you couldn't change the stats, only upgrade them but even then, this whole card thing would be unecessary. As you said: "They also said the best part about dash is getting the characters which confuses me considering sonic dash is literally just a high score simulator without any purpose".
And what i meant by you not being able to change their stats, i meant how u can upgrade em so much to a poiht where you practically changed them. Example: 1 shield 5 dash Etc. U can change these attributes when in 2 and speed battle theres only a set attribute(s) and you just uptrade them.
Thanks for telling me about Sonic 3 Air on iOS, I can now play all of the classic Sonic games on my phone! I even went and copied over all of the settings I have set in my computer.
I bought sonic 2 on Google play back in 2013, and wanted the Sega forever version on my phone, and when I tried to restore my purchase to get no ads, the app just took me to Google play to redownload sonic 2 2013.
6:26 Oh, I feel that. It’s very annoying, and I believe it’s been in the game for a long time now and still hasn’t been fixed. Also, speaking of bugs, when playing as Tails (In Sonic 2, maybe also in Sonic 1 but I’m not sure) and going very fast (faster than normal running speed), it doesn’t play the right animation where his tails sorta make a circle, instead just doing the normal sunning speed animation, but very fast. I don’t know when this bug became a thing, but I know it wasn’t there before.
11:54 you get used to it after awhile (but now that I got a taste with the decomp when I go back to the version with ads I start to go stir crazy when they pop up)
I’ve been waiting for someone to document this for years. In addition to the things you mentioned, sometimes the screen locks incorrectly on wider displays, such as in the Quartz Quadrant boss fight, resulting in ridiculously small room for movement (and the spike trap being a non issue due to being off screen.) the save files for Sonic 1 and 2 don’t work when starting a new file. They default to a completed save file the next time you open them, regardless of your in game progress.
This just makes me glad that: 1. I don't play mobile games. If I think I'll be gaming on the go, I'll play my switch where those sorts of shenanigans with ads just won't play. 2. If I want to play classic Sonic, I'm pretty much never going with official Sega releases since Sega can't even EMULATE their games properly, let alone do remasters that don't suck. Bonus: You don't actually need the Steam version of S3K to play Sonic 3 AIR. Pretty much any .bin of it that isn't patched will do. The S3 AIR website even points this out and most ROMs of it you find, provided they're not in a cooked ROM format (Hence why I said .bin.) will match the checksum of the ROM you'd get from the Steam version. S3AIR blows everything even Sonic Origins has done out of the water.
I still remember when what I assume to be Sega Forever just absolutely broke Sonic 1 somehow, I'm talking random stuff from Sonic 2 just showing up, messing with the time trials menu (GHZ act 3 was treated as the start of a new zone, would keep offsetting until a bunch of later levels were just inaccessible), and you just flat out could not complete Spring Yard Zone Act 3 (You just DIED as sonic walked offscreen), the save select menu showed 7 emeralds (6 were still required by default as far as I'm aware). It was years ago at this point but like HOW did they mess up copy-pasting code that badly??? I'm still glad I have the Spring Yard death glitch that made the game UNCOMPLETEABLE archived via TH-cam because like Why?
Just reminder this Sega Forever and the account that runs Sega Forever TH-cam and Twitter are different. Sega Forever Twitter/TH-cam are genuinely amazing for sharing high quality pieces of Sega artwork and assets. Awesome account.
I am SO glad you brought up this topic given I have my own personal gripes with Sega Forever, and how they seem to not know how to operate their apps properly. I remember when I redownloaded Sonic 1 after having not played it in over 5 years (I last played it in 2016) and saw that they added ads to it of which, I recall being disappointed and eventually annoyed with the EXCESSIVE amount of them. There are different types of issues with their thing besides the Sonic games such as Comix Zone’s controls being unresponsive and difficult for the game to unplayable for many including myself; logging in and saving for games such as Shining Force can take one or multiple attempts for it to work properly, etc.
12:00 very simple, I used my School's WiFi. That WiFi couldn't connect to my phone and would end up in a state of "connected without internet" which let me play the games with no ads. That's how I beated Sonic 2 400%
7:04 Actually, the Sega Forever version broke the hand models for Sonic, where the finger joints just...didn't work However, they had the new ones active at the same time as the old ones in special stages, causing Sonic to have 4 hands. This got fixed later, but it was really amusing seeing Sonic with 10 fingers on 1 hand catching the emerald.
For as bad as sonic origins is,it’s the only way I can play the classic games without ads since I don’t own a pc. I grew up with the 2013 release of sonic 2 so it breaks my heart to see it in its current state.
Cool concept, poor exacution. I remember this being announced and even downloaded some of these like Ristar and Sonic 1, but was almost inmediately turned off by the constant barrage of ads :/
Well you can buy one I mean it’s compatible with a higher version but it won’t work for the 2007 Apple TV you need like the 2016 or higher Apple TV in odder to play it but it’s better that sega forever never update the Apple TV version and for s2 the Apple TV version still has Porto palace but unfortunately I don’t know how to access level select in sonic 1 and 2 on Apple TV but hey the Apple TV has some fun stuff to!
I bought the original Sonic 1 and 2 mobile ports before sega forever became a thing on my Android phone (where the sega forever versions replaced the orignals rather than being updates) and redownloaded them every time I got a new one. Somehow, despite using the most up to date version of the OS the games still work as intended with the only even remotely broken-ish thing being certain things that were meant to be off screen being at the edge of the screen due to the modern screen size
my secret is that i used rsdk decompilation which fixes most bugs, and has a port on pc, and easly modable, and most importantly, no ads or internet connection
no one ever mentions this, but there is also an ad when you go into debug mode. THIS HAS RUINED DEBUG MODE. So I just decided to buy it, then install an older apk for android to make it work again. Screw you sega forever.
I remember years ago I had an app that acted as a vpn to block websites I remember getting so fed up with ads playing sonic cd on rhe school pr9vided ipads ro pass the tine I blacklisted all the sites that distributed mobile ads like vungle or google ads and it actually worked. The fame would attempt to load an ad but nothing would show up. Good times But now i barely have money so i'm above all that. I don't miss it
Im not far into the video, but: Did you know, that if you actually restored your purchase for the Sega Forever emulated game, it would straight up take you to the emulated version, and not restore the ads-free play for your purchase?
I still play the android ports that I purchased years ago. The ones that were counterparts to the free"no wifi, no saves" version. It sucks they don't update the premium ones, but the "with ads" version is still supported...
I’ve known the Sonic 2 Emerald, Debug and extra continues codes for years, but haven’t heard of the proto palace code until now. Gonna go try that. (Yes, I play the mobile version, I know about hidden palace and the backstory behind it)
Yo there is a definitive way to play Sonic 1 on mobile (and Sonic 2 in the future tho)... Ok, so Team Forever have created a fan-port of the retro engine Sonic 1 & 2 on PC with lots of quality of life improvements (like drop dash, new modes, Amy as a playable new character etc.) which are called Sonic 1 Forever and Sonic 2 Absolute. And a couple of months ago they released Sonic 1 Forever on mobile and guess what, there absolutely no ads!! You should check it out
10:08 Actually, it’ll work with any S3&K ROM, you just have to find a ROM (they’re everywhere, shouldn’t be THAT hard to find) and rename the title of the file to that of the Steam version. Yes, I do know that it is in fact technically piracy.
Haha, yeah I just don't *do* games on phones because of this kind of shit. I'd literally rather entertain myself by looking at clouds than put up with these headaches.
For some reason, Sonic 1 now has static image ads, which you can X out of immediately (at least for me), so basically Sonic 1 Mobile is ad-free… kind-of
We need a subscription based service from SEGA paying $60 a year. You get to experience most of the Master System games, Genesis/CD/32X games, Game Gear games, Saturn games, Dreamcast games, and most of the Sega games that ranged through the PS2/Xbox/GC era to the PS4/XBONE/Wii U era. It would be available for the Series X/S, PS5, and Switch. Similar to Nintendo Switch online you get to play most of SEGA’s classics for $60 a year. You have the option of doing save states, rewinding, etc. I think it would be a great way to preserve the classic titles

My solution to the ads: use a crappy hotspot, as it only detects if you’re connected, but not how good it is. No ads baby!!!!!
Thank you Sega, for giving me more reason to stick to the Sonic Mega and Sonic Gems collections, and having backups of both just in case.
Or stick to the amazon appstore versions of sonic 1, 2, and cd if on android as those if I remember are basically the same as the old versions.
Or just play Sonic 1 Forever, Sonic 2 Absolute, Sonic CD Restored, and Sonic 3 A.I.R.
@@sackydzNGyeah, they are far better.
It's hard to beat something which is free.
This just makes me glad that:
I agree
i don’t want no more beat battle and royal match ads in my sonic games 🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥
Yea ik, probably the worst ads are the royal match ones lol.
Wow.
Now 400% Sonic CD And 1 and 100% Sonic 4 Episode 2
@@Bacons4Lyfe Hell no, CD was mid and very annoying, and 4 never happened.
I remember them saying that Dreamcast games would also be on mobile but the only one that got that, jet set radio, got removed.
Oh man I forgot about that now i wish I brought it up in the video
Crazy Taxi still exist, but again its still part of the Sega Forever.
On the Amazon Appstore versions of the classic Sonic games, they thankfully haven't been updated to have the "Sega Forever" branding yet.
This is the one and only time Sonic Origins will be better than something
Not the only time, but ok
For as bad as sonic origins is,it’s the only way I can play the classic games without ads since I don’t own a pc. I grew up with the 2013 release of sonic 2 so it breaks my heart to see it in its current state.
As a person who first played all the mobile ports of these classic games back in 2012, I feel your pain
Sonic cd mobile / Console/pc Remaster Released in 2011 But Sonic 1 and 2 Released in 2013
@@Bacons4Lyfe yea ik
Cool concept, poor exacution. I remember this being announced and even downloaded some of these like Ristar and Sonic 1, but was almost inmediately turned off by the constant barrage of ads :/
Oh and fun fact sonic 1,2, and cd where ported on the Apple TV with no ads it’s kinda great.
Oh ive always wanted to try that but don’t have a modern apple tv
Well you can buy one I mean it’s compatible with a higher version but it won’t work for the 2007 Apple TV you need like the 2016 or higher Apple TV in odder to play it but it’s better that sega forever never update the Apple TV version and for s2 the Apple TV version still has Porto palace but unfortunately I don’t know how to access level select in sonic 1 and 2 on Apple TV but hey the Apple TV has some fun stuff to!
Good video!! But that cliffhanger was something
There’s a ad when you’re trying to sleep.
There’s a ad when your going outside.
10:05 if piracy is your only option when companies decide to be anti consumer... i see no issue doing it...
This is why i play the decompilation version of these games
I still have sonic 1 2 and cd 2017 versions never updated with old icons! (Also paid)
Remember kids, always use the decomps if you play on android!
Love how you placed the youtube ad spot right at the "load ads" line.
I understand the iusses, tho this video felt kinda directionless.
It vaguely advances forward.l, with a vague end goal.
11:18 bro was so surprised and angry he did sonic’s up smash.
my secret is that i used rsdk decompilation which fixes most bugs, and has a port on pc, and easly modable, and most importantly, no ads or internet connection
no one ever mentions this, but there is also an ad when you go into debug mode. THIS HAS RUINED DEBUG MODE. So I just decided to buy it, then install an older apk for android to make it work again. Screw you sega forever.
The first person I've ever seen whose angry about them not being able to play Sonic 4.
FUUUCK YEEEAAAAAAHHHH! These ads have been the bane of little me's existence back in (checks list) 2016!
Uhhh, so something I wanna bring up is that Sega Forever is discontinued.
(That's a shame I wanna see Fantasy Zone.)
woah and how did discontinued?
@@matteus14 Not making money.
this is the first video of yours I've watched and it made me really happy and smiley. this was a great video!
I love that when he says “and they have ads” an ad pops up
1:09
THAT SONG SLAPS!
11:54 i could live with the ads just fine except for sonic 2 where the ad could potentially softlock the game
I remember years ago I had an app that acted as a vpn to block websites
I remember getting so fed up with ads playing sonic cd on rhe school pr9vided ipads ro pass the tine I blacklisted all the sites that distributed mobile ads like vungle or google ads and it actually worked. The fame would attempt to load an ad but nothing would show up. Good times
But now i barely have money so i'm above all that. I don't miss it
11:16 that was terrifying
Thankfully the decomps exist so no one has to suffer with the sega forever stuff xd
And Origins as well
0:22 well we got emulators on iOS officially but I know it’s been on Android so we got actual video games along side
0:27 it's soo relatable
The finger was matching the music 5:27
It's fixed. Now whenever you pause in Sonic 2 and I think 1 too, you don't get an ad when you unpause
Now I’m even more glad I stuck w/ Origins Plus
Alternate title: How SEGA Forever TRIGGERS you
Damn thats good
Thanks
No if the title is like this i wont watch it
@@Rasheed470 it's a reference to Nathaniel Bandy
Im not far into the video, but:
Did you know, that if you actually restored your purchase for the Sega Forever emulated game, it would straight up take you to the emulated version, and not restore the ads-free play for your purchase?
I still play the android ports that I purchased years ago.
The ones that were counterparts to the free"no wifi, no saves" version.
It sucks they don't update the premium ones, but the "with ads" version is still supported...
2:51 this was added rather recently
I’ve known the Sonic 2 Emerald, Debug and extra continues codes for years, but haven’t heard of the proto palace code until now. Gonna go try that. (Yes, I play the mobile version, I know about hidden palace and the backstory behind it)
Turns out the code you provided is barely wrong, you forgot the 04 at the end, and you apparently need to activate debug mode too.
Strange, I’m playing it as Sonic + Tails, but there was a 1-up monitor with Tails on it.
Interesting how they warp you back to the level select when you get to where the level “ends”. I wonder if I can bypass it with debug mode…
I can, but there’s not much to see. It’s basically just a carbon copy of the prototype version of Hidden palace from what I can tell.
@@TheCreativeTypeI think the Tails monitor is also a reference to the prototype Hidden Palace, which had the same thing.
Funny fact
In 2:37 played a real ad for me
Yo there is a definitive way to play Sonic 1 on mobile (and Sonic 2 in the future tho)... You should check it out
I wouldn’t say those are definitive considering they’re only on PC and Mobile. Also, don’t forget about Origins
Yes I Would Check It out And Played the Original Version Of Sonic 2
when I play, I open the game normally and then switch over to an expired sim card and basically get 0 ads
it's a good month when you upload a sonic video
so like every other video
and now... they're all going away
bro the joke about the tiny close ad button 💀
It’s not even a joke that’s just what happened while i was gathering footage and it kinda speaks for itself
@@dshaynietheawesome lol i thought it was part of the video
it is now it works so well that it gives context to the video@@some_dude_in_the_internet
10:08 Actually, it’ll work with any S3&K ROM, you just have to find a ROM (they’re everywhere, shouldn’t be THAT hard to find) and rename the title of the file to that of the Steam version. Yes, I do know that it is in fact technically piracy.
Fun fact: the mobile version of sonic 4 episode 1 is just the beta version of the game.
I am glad the decomps exist and now we have the versions purified from the ads.
(0:26) when you can’t skip an ad:
(11:17) “WAT!1!1!1!”
i would only really play sonic 1, 2 and cd in class and the school wifi would get rid of ads so that was just awesome
I feel 1000% the same way you do about ads. I straight up refuse to play a game that even has a hint of ads.
Just press "go back" in the cornor
Request: Return of Sonic Origins (Plus Review)
Pro-tip: Turning on your mobile data lets you play without ads or internet. It works even if you don't have any credit to your mobile data
“And to record ad-“
An ad: “Allow us to introduce ourselves.”
this is why I play sonic games that are already in mobile online in google
1:50 here in Colombia is $ 2.57
bro when you said and to load ads i got an ad
Haha, yeah I just don't *do* games on phones because of this kind of shit.
I'd literally rather entertain myself by looking at clouds than put up with these headaches.
5:49 The unused space was for ads
When it said “and 2: to load ads” TH-cam gave me a perfectly timed ad.
I hope Christian Whitehead goes to Sega Forever and tell them this isn’t the way these remasters should be handled
I remember finding my mum’s Apple id password and buying no ads in sonic 1, 2 and CD without her permission.
tell me she slapped you
I'll never forget how they took competition away from me
Can't forget that in S4epII Sonic's hands are broken. Every gesture they could make are all loaded at once. Unless that is an Android-exclusive issue
11:17 bro became so angry he jumped into a spindash
For some reason, Sonic 1 now has static image ads, which you can X out of immediately (at least for me), so basically Sonic 1 Mobile is ad-free… kind-of
theres an ad that replaces continues in sonic!
.... tbh thats kinda dope tho cuz all i gotta do is watch an ad to start again
I prefer earning my continues by being good at the game
