    Fantastic build! Love my XRS and skye pod, fabulous ergonomics, decent weight, and great versatility. I only have a Tikka in 6.5 barrel, but it puts 1/2 moa groups down all day long. She will be coming hunting with me this fall.

    It looks unreal!! Have taken up shooting from watching your videos, got my self a wee 22 to learn but want to pick up a 223 to train with, would you ever do a video on your 223 rifle and set up? Would love to make something smilier =D

    I know the video hasn't premiered yet, but I will go ahead and say, Thank you so much for making this video, I have the same rifle (in heavy steel barrel and the same stock) I am looking for a good bipod but can't afford MDT and nor can I afford the muzzle break. I just invested in Vortex Venom and am easily able to make shots to 300 yards but want to go beyond - need to find a range that I can use to shoot over 1000 yards.

      Thanks for being cool and i bet YOUR Sponsor is Happy beyond words and a Hunter Stock w m-loc for what Brownell's says 295.00 Howa owners such as myself 22-250 that's considered short action right rail on top separate like rail on bottom is.

    My Howa also loved piercing primers and after some measuring we found that the firing pin protrudes further than most rifles. I slowly filed it down bit by bit and now it fires reliably and I have not pierced a primer since.

    Should be a fun series. I'm very happy with my build that was inspired by a lot of your videos. Really convinced me to go MDT for my build. Finally added the mirage shield this last week. I'll have the short video edited to release this week. I had to add something in red!! It was too much black. If you saw my recent videos on my Stealth Arms Platypus build, you'll know I'm all about Black and Red color combos. It turned out pretty well I think. I'll be showing it off on Thursday night with that mirage shield on!! Learned a trick to get MLok installed on tight fitting pieces like that mirage shield!! Have a great week, Piet!!!

    I had thought about getting a howa mini action in 6mm ARC (Because I have plenty of brass) and using that as a trainer but think if I'm going to build a trainer I might as well just build another comp level rifle,,,, just in 6 ARC. lol Yes, I have a love for that cartridge. I have other bang sticks for hunting so for builds I'm keeping it to competition level rifles.

    Hi Piet, can you speak a bit more on small vs large primer cases and why you opted for small please?

    • @williamsweet7511
      @williamsweet7511 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      my understanding is the larger pocket weakens the brass more than the small pocket does. initially all 6.5 CM was large pocket, but lapua (i think) said small rifle primers will work fine and keeps more material around the base of the brass where problems can occur. Now it's kinda up to the person what they choose to shoot large v. small. Personally, I've reloaded and shot both and I can't really tell a difference. They shoot about the same so if you can get more reloads out of a small pocket than go for small. If all you have is large pocket, do that.

    Piet, if I want a rifle build to do hunting and some competition, what would in your opinion be the best middle priced option in terms of caliber and manufacturer, obviously would have to fit an MDT stock/chassis. I was looking at 6.5 PRC but have no clue on what manufacturer is good. I don’t mind swapping things like trigger, etc. but would like to be able to buy barrel and action and put it directly in Mdt Chassis as I would never shoot with the standard chassis.

    I’m currently running a 308 and looking at a 6mm creedmoor in the XRS stock then I can swap out the barrelled action and see what the 308 is really capable of.

  • @cacinaz8802
    @cacinaz8802 ปีที่แล้ว

    Question - do you feel it necessary to blueprint these Howa actions? Bush the bolt face? Seems like you transfer the barreled action to a chassis, add scope, clean the rifle of course, then develop a load for it. You must feel satisfied that the action is concentric, etc. Thanks.

    Is a factory howa worth it to buy for a first gun or should one tend to look more towards tikka? Or even maybe rem 700 as these 3 dont seem to be the most pricy?

    • @Dan_themaestro
      @Dan_themaestro ปีที่แล้ว

      Where I live, howa are the most budget friendly option, then bergara then tikka- which are almost as good as a custom action
      All will do the job, just depends on your budget.

    Did the Howa barreled action come with the carbon fiber wrap from the shop, or did you have it wrapped somewhere?

    • @codyschoonover610
      @codyschoonover610 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The carbon fiber makes up the majority of the thickness of barrel. The best way I can think to describe is take a regular barrel put it in a lathe and turn down the thickness to a couple mm or so then laminate your layers of carbon fiber reinforcement back up, or most likely a pre preg carbon fiber reinforcement, until the original barrel diameter is achieved. The steel core with the rifling and the the laminated carbon fiber shell gives the strength and rigidity of the original barrel but with the weight savings carbon is known for. I’m not a gunsmith so I don’t know if you would actually turn down a pre existing barrel or start from scratch and drill, rifle and thread a a barrel specifically with the outer dimensions needed before the carbon process. I’m thinking the latter for mass production and the way I described for more one off custom jobs. This is not a tutorial I just had a carbon ruger 10/22 barrel years ago and seeing its construction up close along what know about composites and guns, this is how I’d go about it if I had to do it myself.

      @@IMPACTSHOOTING yeah I kinda expected that side of the argument to be mentioned, and It should me noted I 100% agree with it, it's just hard for guntubers these days. Same as its hard for NZ citizens like me to even enjoy the sport.
      I would just suggest maybe slowing down a little on the algorithm preaching. It's the 2nd consecutive video where I feel somewhat cheated by youtube tyranny as someone who loves the practice. I love the content and cannot get enough of it, please try not to starve me because of factors outside of my control, I already share your channel religiously among my like minded friends/family.
