The old lady is looking spectacular gary ,, could sit for hours listening to the old stories , fantastic channel, take care , look forward to the next one
Thank you for your videos. I was the Company Public Relations Manager in the 1970s and I still write articles about the marque. I have to say your attention to detail and obvious love of the cars does you a lot of credit. Please keep making the videos. I have a 1989 Spirit. I wish you lived close to me as I need a mechanic. The trouble is I live in Normandy. Warm regards Evan Morgans
Such beautiful improvements. Thanks for sharing some of the true magicians who have cared for these cars for years and share their obsession and skills.
I have to say that your videos are my favourite of any subject. Informative and engaging. Love your chats to everyone. The only TH-cam channel I’ll happily replay numerous times. Thanks Gary.
As an old Mancunian in Canada each and every session is a real treat, from the vehicles to your gentle and flowing accent, our shared love and respect for industry in the North West and the music to round things off. Sincere thanks indeed. Ian K.
So wonderful to see you give your Corniche the loving that it deserves! Your dash is a dream! I can see how much you love this car, as I do mine! Most women would not understand . Thanks for the upload, and as usual, can’t wait to see your next episode!❤️
It is without a doubt a labour of love. Whilst always having in the back of your mind the absolute perfection and sheer artistic ability of the original workmen at Rolls Royce Crewe.
The transformation of adding the restored wood veneers is stunning and I am sure very satisfying. I love the music to these video - Thank you for more wonderful content GM. ❤
All of those old and retired Craftsmen who had a hand in the building of your Corniche, would be extremely proud of you, for the preservation of the cars' outstanding beauty!! I have always loved the shape and good looks of both the Shadow and Corniche. One of the best vids ever, was Harry's Garage, and his 4000 quid Shadow, that he took to the Arctic Circle. I could almost picture your black Corniche against the pure white Arctic Weather!! Gary, you are very thorough and fussy about how you plan before doing the complex work, and (I believe) that the RR Brake Circuits and valves can be misunderstood with ease! Please may I also make some constructive comments. I absolutely loved the woodwork following the refurb work. But this now highlighted the area around the Key Ignition, where it is scratched from swinging keys. I wondered if it were possible to source black (non-scratch) self adhesive pvc, and re - cover the surface. And for the nuts and bolts which are removed / refitted underneath your car, there is a substance (made by ROCOL) and called "copper anti -sieze". A little coating over the threaded portion of your shaft / bolt does stop any road salt / moisture from penetrating the nut/bolt. They will undo 25 years from now. I've watched all of your vids, including the work restoring that rust-bucket Merc! Greetings from Australia.
What an exquisite work of art Gary. Such a pleasure to watch your work and explanations, plus the interviews you do with the craftsmen in the field. I must confess, with just a few years until my retirement, I have indulged and bought my first Rolls Royce - a gorgeous 1976 Shadow. Your improvements to your Corniche have inspired and educated me, though I could not tackle anywhere near what you do. At least I understand and appreciate a little more about the marque. Thank you!
FYI Gary, the final drive crossmember is spot welded sheet metal with a urethane foam injected in between the cavity. The workshop manual states the trolley jack and a pad should be placed under the case. It is extremely robust. Eventually the cross-member gets distorted and cracks.
The passion you have for your Corniche is so wonderful to experience. You do everything with such grace and elegance, respecting her more than anyone I have seen. Love your videos, and I must say, you have singlehandedly restored my faith in "re-connolising" leather - I have always been deathly afraid if it, and even had my Spirit re-upholstered entirely... Wish you had been around back then lol. Thank you!
What a wonderful job on the wood and also the leather feed. It must be so satisfying to look after an old Rolly Polly... beautiful car, just beautiful.
Now that this car is in such great condition, you should consider a documented road trip. I can’t wait to see what else you do with the Porsche and Lotus.
A lovely a video apart from when you was were using that little screw driver ? I was having a heart attack & I was Frightened that screw driver was going to slip destroy that beautifully wood 😱
Thank you Gary for another stellar and relaxing presentation. My heart was in my throat however every time you used that long handle screwdriver near the new brightwork. I kept hoping that it wouldn't slip!
Great episode Gary you covered so many topics. That interior now looks amazing. Thanks for the advice of leaving the aircon rebuild to experts, that is what I’m doing on my Silver Cloud 3 and will do the same on my Shadow.
It’s always very satisfying when we reassemble stuff that been restored I love a bit of satin black aerosol awesome what a difference it makes to the small details 👍👍👍a daft tip when you reinstall the flat head screws try keeping them in line with the panel and make sure they all are the same, a tip I learnt while working on yachts 👍
I fully agree to PhilUkNet's comment that there is something therapeutic watching the way how Gary is working. It always encourages me to continue fumbling something on my XJ40. For me it was new to see how cracked leather can be repaired. Impressed me. In a short sequence I saw that he is using a 16mm spanner. When did RR change to the Metric system? Does anyone know? I think Jaguar did it in the late 80s.
Hey Gary, I just discovered your wonderful channel and have been bingeing episodes. Great work, I love the way it's presented and really like the choice of music too. Greetings from Perth, Western Australia!
Luv the vid .I 190s I worked for Royal Insurance and stayed every month I the ADELPHY Hotel we had 30 rooms reserved. Do you remember the America Bar.😂😂😂😍😱
I was pleased to hear you say, take your time and enjoy it. As I can't think of a more therapeutic way to spend a day than reworking and lining up English car veneer. If it only took 4hrs.... I hope you made it take 8. I envy you doing this beautiful part of the build :0)
What a beautiful bit of British motoring history, stunning car, top quality workmanship Garry, A little tip, any suspension related joints, bolts, and bushes etc, should be left loose until vehicle off any jacks or stands, and all the weight is back on wheels, then move vehicle up and down a few times, then tighten and torque everything up. Stops pre loading bushes and joints.
" DEAR! WHERE ARE MY GOOD TEA SPOONS?!" ....sorry Gary I had to lol. I do like the Autoglym products, stinks that here in canada we have such a limited supply. their tar remover was my favourite just did wonders.
Hi Gary, I really enjoyed that video (actually, they are all very good!) Did you realise that you dropped a small screwdriver into the engine compartment on the near side near the headlamps? I Hope you can retrieve it!!!
Love your video’s Gary, but simple? A few days work? I suspect you are a tad above a lot of other home mechanics, and the cost of parts must be significant. It would be interesting to have the retail costs included in future videos. Still, absolutely loving your Corniche and Lotus videos’. I’m here for as long as you are producing!
I've have been watching the progress on the Corniche and have taken the plunge and bought one. I am wanting to re furbish the seats like you have done with Vinylkote. My interior looks the same colour as yours, what colour name or code did you order. The factory code colour for my interior is Beige VM 3234. Look forward to hearing from you.
A great video as always! I would clean the newly lacquered wood veneer with antique wood polish and a soft cloth (like for waxing paint). Never use your clothes for it, as you will scratch it immediately! I am also wandering about the heelpad. There should only be one for the drivers side, shouldn't it?
Yes I know but when my Heater exploded in an earlier ep it stained my carpets with antifreeze. So I’ve put a Matt both sides which looks neater, is more practical and takes your eye off the stain!! Regards.

Mulliner Park Ward was a coachbuilder formed as a subsidiary by Rolls-Royce in 1961 to supply it custom bodywork for its automobiles.
