    My Wood is always letting me down, I'm still trying to find a Lass to polish it, but I'm having difficulty 🤣

    Great job! Looking forward to you tackling the really tough jobs where the veneer has peeled off. I was going to replace mine but having seen your work I’ll be having a go at re-veneering

    Oh yeah, those blighters that you were heading to at 5:40... I've named those "demons from hell" (especially on the driver's side) and replaced them with... well, I'll have to show you sometime. Suffice to say that I only had to deal with those slot-headed wood screws once!
    Thank you so much for putting these videos together! Your teaching style is the best, in my opinion. Cheers!

    I fixed my glove box door on the XK by just adding an old magnetic kitchen cupboard latch/lock on the back. Glued a bit of metal onto the back of the door and made a bracket for the magnet that is on a floating body. Took key out and just peel door back when required. Cost zero!☺

    How Vic has done a great job restoring the wood on this Jag any antique restorer would have been able to do all these pieces using original tectonics and original materials for not too much money, how do I know? because I'm a antique restorer.

    Hi Vic, I had to laugh when you took the dash panel and glovebox out and put them back in without showing how difficult it is.

    Love the channel Vic. I have a 1966 S Type which needs a lot of work and your enthusiasm is infectious. What grit sand paper did you use first on the wood and could you provide a list of the products you used to get the finish? Cheers and thanks for the vids.

      @vicsprojects  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Dave, I can't recall the exact same paper but probably 80-120 grit on the old lacquer as I didn't want to go too hard and damage the veneer. In terms of products it was Farecla G3 for most of the first cuts and then whatever car polish and wax I had lying around. Good luck with yours

    Hi, I’m very impressed with the finish you’ve achieved. Is it possible you could tell me what lacquer you used please? Many thanks.

      @vicsprojects  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah sure, halfords "professional" 🤣 the quality difference between lacquers is normally how well they last against the elements, the end finish is more determined by wet sanding and then cut and polish after 👍

    Great vid Vic... Have you re trimmed the centre consul ?. Also a quick question. I noticed you have a overtaking mirror on your drivers door. did you fit this? I bought one of these and it keeps falling off usually when Im doing 30mph..lol I think its because the clap part is to shallow. Where did you buy yours etc... GN

      @vicsprojects  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi GN, glad you've been enjoying the videos. Center console retrim is on the last, but it's a very long list 🤣
      I didn't fit those mirrors, they came with the car, to be fair the barely hang on in there! Haven't lost one yet though! Vic

    Brilliant idea for a film. Very interesting. Leave the music out. Background music says " this bit is really boring so here's some distraction " If you think its boring, why shouldn't I? Also saying what you're GOING to do isn't interesting at all. Watching it being done IS. Trying to be TV doesn't work on TH-cam. You have some really interesting expertise to share. Just do that.

    Too bad you couldn't get it all done and will have to go back in to finish it but otherwise it looks great.

    I do think its slightly a shame when people obsess over restoration, rather than conservation. Your trim looked fine, its an old car, let it have some patina. Each to their own, but there are so many 'restored' jags out there that loose the character that age and use brings.

    Scusa ma non mi sembra una buona idea spruzzare vernice trasparente sul cruscotto che rimanendo sotto al sole sfoglierà!

    • @vicsprojects

      Thanks for the comment ams great question! It's common practice and how they left the factory, just use a good quality automotive clear coat. If you think its only in extreme heat conditions with no wax that you get lacquer breakdown on bodywork.
