I had expected either a more full explanation or for it to simply not be brought up since it's very well known that it exists and that's all you really need to know for most people
It is one of the few teams to win the championship multiple times. That certainly makes them a necessary inclusion. Even more so since they have been around for a decade now.
The thing that caught me off guard was having it right around tons of more usual sponsors. Like yeah oil company, autoparts company, bank, autoparts company, *HATSUNE MIKU,* autoparts company, etc.
If i remember right, Takata went bankrupt because they supplied a number of car models with an airbag system that turned out to be faulty and actually killed or injured several people really bad.
Nearly 20 million cars (can be more) got a recall because of their faulty air bags. My dad's 3rd gen Japanese Spec Honda Odyssey was among one of them.
Fairly sure it was the biggest motor vehicle recall of all time. Their airbag system would fail, potentially launching small bits of shrapnel into the occupant's face, due to cost-cutting on the explosive device that's supposed to inflate the airbag (which is massively over simplifying the whole thing).

Now we've might gonna want (or at least it's just me) a video about Goodsmile Racing's history in the future. The team is well known as the "anime racing team", running Hatsune Miku sponsors since 2008 (although only as a title sponsor for Team Studie) and 2010 as a full racing team. The team itself is run by Goodsmile Company, a company known best for selling anime figures. So it's basically the company's motorsport division in some ways. They've got Ukyo Katayama, one of many former Japanese F1 driver as the team's director. And with the drivers lineup being Nobuteru Taniguchi, a very well known drifter/racing driver much like Manabu "Max" Orido, and Tatsuya Kataoka, the same Tatsuya Kataoka from Dome's LMP1 project if I remembered it correctly. He even founded his own racing team named TKRI (Tatsuya Kataoka Racing Invitation) and they're racing in the Super Taikyu series, and as recently partnered with Goodsmile Racing to enter the 2024 season of Kyojo Cup, an all female one-make racing series under the Inter Proto Series umbrella. And they're not just a running joke team apparently. They've found success in the Super GT series, winning the GT300 championship title in 2011, 2014, and 2017. They've also raced overseas in 2017 and 2019 editions of 24 Hours of Spa (although unfortunately they didn't finished the race in both editions a.k.a DNF) as well as Suzuka 10 Hours in 2018-19 (with better results than in Spa). Fun fact, the CEO of Goodsmile Company and the owner of the team, Aki Takanori, even as far as getting himself interested in motorsport through Goodsmile Racing. Idk but that's probably be what I would like to see in the future ¯\_(;u;)_/¯

I think the Goodsmile Hatsune Miku cars (Z4/AMG GT) are rather well known, even outside the Super GT and itasha community, so I will mention some infos about Pacific Racing Team's liveries/sponsors, as the other itasha running car in GT300. Pacific Racing Team was known with running Love Live! (a multimedia project consisting anime series, games, concerts about school girl idols - a LL fan can correct me if I was right, I don't have much knowledge about LL) liveries for a long time and lately, they are sponsored by Vtuber agencies. In 2019, they were racing with a Mirai Akari livery - Mirai Akari was one of the OG Vtubers in the scene, she has retired in 2023 March 31st. In 2022, Pacific Racing Team collaborated with Hololive, one of the leading Vtuber agency not just in Japan but worldwide as well - they have a Japanese, English and Indonesian branch, with numerous talents who are streaming, making original and cover songs, and partake in various 3D stage performances and live events. In 2023, they were running a VSPO livery - VSPO is a Japanese Vtuber agency focused on esports, their talents are cracked FPS players and in viewership, they are often the 3rd biggest behind Hololive and Nijisanji. They also have 3D events and currently are working on an overseas expansion.
As an American Gran Turismo gamer who is fascinated with Super GT, I can say that you've done this series justice. I swear it took me years to find out what Xanavi was!
Sponsorships in Super GT/JGTC will always be one of the most fascinating things to talk about. There's always this satisfying feeling when knowing what the main sponsors actually are, for example, Daishin being a dealership network of some sort (probs among other things), and Gaikokuya, a dealership specializing in foreign cars (if the 1994 team name isn't obvious enough lol)

Nothing beats the moment when the 00 car reaches the finish line with all the grandstands filled with lightsticks. That's why I think 2018 Suzuka10h car is the best one, it's the most special one.
A video on the various itashas in the Super GT would be very cool but GoodSmile Racing Hatsune Miku's legacy is long enough an entire video could be made on them alone. GSR is where I got the inspiration to make itasha Super Formulas in GT Sport. Obviously start with Hatsune Miku but these days I make Hololive themed Super Formulas.
There are some that are super obscure that lasted 1 season. Take for example the 2012 Dijon Racing CALLAWAY CORVETTE Z06-R GT3. Yes, a Corvette, on anime girl wrap. And the kicker is that the anime inspired design wasn't an anime, manga, videogame or light novel. It was to promote Nipponbashi, a shopping district skewed towards anime in Osaka.
The thing that I love the most about Super GT is that there are much looser restrictions on the type of car that a team can enter than any other high-level tin-top racing series in the world. It's the reason why we had all these obscure manufacturers, and even a Toyota Prius competing in Super GT.
The Goodsmile racing Super GT liveries have been my favourite since I first saw them. Not because I like Itasha cars or anything but because of the juxtaposition of seeing a piece of pop culture which isn't usually associated with a brand on such a serious car in such a serious class of racing.
One thing for sure, JGTC/Super GT almost always churning out great liveries for their cars. Some can be simple, some can be complex but they're all iconic in their own way.
"Harsune Miku" is not a sponsor, Good Smile is (Good Smile Racing are their derivative SGT branch). They're a company that specializes on hobby products, specifically figurines/scaled figures, Crypton and Good Smile have a special relation starting around the late '00s and Miku/VOCALOID has been the team's mascot ever since. The most noticeable proof of Miku not being the actual sponsor is 2019's Spa 24h, where Good Smile ran a TYPE-MOON livery instead. There's also been multiple times of different VOCALOID mascots appearing on GSR's liveries.
dome's 2010/11 weider "metalder" livery will always be my favorite ; love the half&half style (and if you're curious, weider is an american fitness nutrition company)
19:40 It's factually correct for Miku but not Good Smile Company and GSRacing Team 🤣 21:55 The Axia Trampio R32 #22 is actually my favorite design among all sponsors, I remembered it at the first sight when I watched JGTC videos at that time
I remember autobacs from dtm of all places. In 2003 Persson fielded a Mercedes clk driven by katsutomo kaneishi in full autobacs livery. I have no idea what they were thinking.
Honestly, these SuperGT videos are some of your best. I haven't watched that many races since Nismo TV/The Race stopped their broadcasts, but this makes me want to watch it again, even if I don't understand what the commentators are saying.
Man, it’s good to actually understand the backstory of these sponsorships in GT 500. I am so interested on learning the outside sponsors as maybe a continuation of what makes them iconic in their respective race series.
I remember watching that 2018 finale at Motegi live on THE RACE (I think it was still called NISMO TV at the time), that race was incredible Naoki Yamamoto was COOKING that season, pulled the Super GT and Super Formula double AND OH MAN DO I REMEMBER WATCHING THE 2020 FINALE LIVE-I was hollering I couldn't believe the absolute heartbreaker of losing the race & championship basically AT THE LINE
16:12 Such a minor detail, but I find it funny they have not even used the Marelli font for the large text logo...like whoever was making up the decals just used a standard font and said 'close enough'
My second favorite car in Gran Turismo was the Super GT NSX. I had a Stihl livery on it. My favorite, however, was the Weider Honda. I dominated in that car.
26:18 The blue of this car looking closer to purple (at least to me) in this picture, plus the green of the tire and the red of the markings gives me big Eva Unit 01 energy.
I always wondered what the Yellow Corn or LARK McLaren's were actually sponsored by. If this becomes a series or at least gets a follow up, those two surely deserve a mention.
There also was an ARTA Team in the DTM (I think it was in 2005), where they would use a Mercedes CLK-DTM. Interesting, because Autobacs was never a thing in Germany
Loved the video! My brothers & I have been to both Super Autobacs locations. One was located in West Covina (the last one to open then close) & the Long Beach location. The Long Beach location was larger with a formula car strapped upside down in the showroom & had an upstairs section for dvds & collectibles. We went again in 2009 (our first trip there was 2005 for my bro’s bday my uncle took us) but by then they were named ‘Super AutoToyz’ for some odd reason.
Because of GT5 i became low key obsessed with the '06 Raybrig. I love that silver accent. Sad to see them go. I may or may not have cried after seeing the Fuji finish for the first time.
I'd like to share my knowledge on Super GT Sponsors through music which you may find equally interesting. I've been an avid fan of the eurobeat genre of music for several years now and I actually own a handful of Super Eurobeat CD albums that are sponsored by Super GT, which is what I'll be talking about here. Real quick in case you don't know what Super Eurobeat is, it is a CD album series from Japan by the company Avex Group / Avex Trax (as seen on the purple Raybrig Honda NSX) featuring songs under the eurobeat music genre and has been running since 1990, being the longest running CD album in the world at 250 volumes not including special versions. With that out of the way, one of the special CD sub series was the Super Eurobeat Presents JGTC. Starting in May of 1999, the first CD album was released with sponsorship directly from the JGTC and right away on the second CD they got sponsored by AUTOBACS in early 2000. There would be a 1st Round CD and a 2nd Round CD for each year, with an occasional nonstop mix. By 2005 a transition started replacing the CD cover art sponsor of AUTOBACS and JGTC into just SUPER GT. There was a brief exception in 2008 as both 2008 CDs (2008 1st round and 2008 2nd round) did not get sponsoring by the music distributor I've aforementioned, Super Eurobeat, as half the tracklist on both CDs used songs from other music genres. 2009 things went normal again, with Avex still supplying special CDs for the Super GT series up until the final one in 2010. Also on top of this, as I had said before in a small hint, the purple Raybrig Honda NSX had direct on-the-car sponsorship from Avex themselves in certain years and this car famously was in Gran Turismo 4. There was also the #18 Avex DOME Mugen Honda NSX which was mainly sponsored by Avex Group, you can even see it in this video at around 25:30 onward. I hope this information is understandable and some of you who may read this have learned something! Stay cool and please do feel free to learn more by Googling for SUPER EUROBEAT: Presents JGTC or Super Eurobeat in general! Thank you ^^ EDIT: Also at around 21:40 I'd appreciate a followup video as you could maybe include some of this information!
Best bang for your advertising buck would easily have to be Castrol and Toyota in the early GT games. 20+ years later and older gamers can easily recognise the Castrol Supra (and to a lesser extent, the Celica); its impact is such that still gets modded into other car games to this day
I loved the video. I discover many new things to add to the ones I already knew. I would love to watch a second part soon explaining another very well stablished sponsors in Super GT, very loyal sponsorships. Denso, Jaecs, Kaneko, Yokohama Advan, HKS, JLOC (Japan's Lamborghini Owners Club), BP, etc. Greetings from Spain!!!
Another long term title sponsor coming to an end in 2023 is ZENT with Cerumo which they have used since 2005, the team now as KeePer as Cerumo's title sponsor starting this year. Also Yuji Tachikawa became Cerumo's new team princapal after his retirement from racing
Komputer here. Really liked the video, good one. Now if only you could do a video on the weird cars that competed in both JGTC and Super GT over the years.
Yeah, even as far as taking the ZENT sponsor along with him (smh) Context: Starting from 2024, Team Cerumo, the team where Yuji Tachikawa had raced for, will drop ZENT as their title sponsor and Keeper will be the ones who is sponsoring them
Man the ending of this video really had me in the feels. Love your videos mate! I'd love to see more videos about these more niche obscure motorsports stories that deserve some love.
Amazing video, I remember being shocked a few years ago to find out that Raybrig are no longer around, it'll take me a while to get used to them being gone.
Pennzoil was founded in Pennsylvania and was a part of the massive company Standard Oil. Mobile 1 motor oil is produced by Mobil which was founded as Standard Oil of New York and would later merge with Exxon (Standard Oil of New Jersey) to form ExxonMobil. Exxon is known more outside the United States as ESSO which stands for the English letters "S" and "O" for...Standard Oil.
Esso also had their whole tiger theming which made it funnier to me when they teamed up with Pugeot for the WRC and BTCC efforts. Pugeot's badge is a lion, not a tiger, and yet they got some of the best liveries out of it. In GT2 (the game, not the category) in NA the Esso logos were replaced by Exxon weren't they?
However, Pennzoil and Quaker State merged, and Shell bought them out. The brand has a massive presence in Indycar and especially in NASCAR, where names like Tony Raines, Mark Martin, Darrell Waltrip, Michael Waltrip, Kevin Harvick, Steve Park, AJ Allmendinger, Kurt Busch, Jeff Burton, Matt Kenseth, Jamie Macmurray, TJ Bell, and most famously, Joey Logano all carried a Pennzoil paint job as a primary or an alternative sponsor in all 3 major divisions.. (note, drivers were placed on no particular order)
Thank you for making this video! I’ve been interested in Super GT ever since I bought GT7, but it’s tough to find English-langue content/context about the series
I love this video, thank you so much for this in-depth look at Super GT and it's sponsorships. I would like to see that break down of other sponsers more in depth if you can. I'm sure I'm not alone in that sentiment.
Great video bud, loved JGTC my entire life. Have you considered doing a video on the Japanese cars that went over and raced at Le Mans in 1995 and 1996? Interesting era and the last time JGTC cars there. Was always gutted the GT500's never got an invitational entry.
If so, we should follow Kazutoshi Mizuno's story. The constant internal turmoil at Nissan continues to have a negative impact not only on production cars, but also on racing activities. The Z33, which was developed without the company's knowledge, and the R35 GT-R, which was developed in secret with the help of some outlaws who had taken early retirement from Isuzu, are all connected to the stories of GT/SWPC/LM.
Dude you literally have the same mind that I do the only reason my dad got into super GT as much as he did is because he loved GT3 class racing and adored the liveries of all the cars.. and also because I’m not only because I was born on Gran Turismo but I’m a hardcore Weeb I actually love your channel by the way absolute class 😊 and yes continue this for as long as you can make it
So many of those legendary sponsors are gone these days. I know they're still the same team, but they have different sponsors to represent. Such as : ZENT -> KeePer Calsonic -> Marelli Raybrig -> Stanley
this guy is gonna make a video on Gran Turismo fonts and I'll probably be watching it within 10 minutes of it being uploaded

The most noticeable proof of Miku not being the actual sponsor is 2019's Spa 24h, where Good Smile ran a TYPE-MOON livery instead. There's also been multiple times of different VOCALOID mascots appearing on GSR's liveries.
I have to say the Calsonic and Pennzoil GT-Rs are always my go to cars for Gran Turismo's JGTC events along with the Castrol Supra, and Mobil 1 NSX.
So, many of my remembering brands of sponsors are going away, back when i played Gran Turismo 5.
My mind was blown when I saw Loctite products in the superglue section of a hardware store, lock... tight... it lives rent free in my head every day
dome's 2010/11 weider "metalder" livery will always be my favorite ; love the half&half style (and if you're curious, weider is an american fitness nutrition company)
21:55 yes! more sponsors
19:40 It's factually correct for Miku but not Good Smile Company and GSRacing Team 🤣
21:55 The Axia Trampio R32 #22 is actually my favorite design among all sponsors, I remembered it at the first sight when I watched JGTC videos at that time
Thank you for posting immediately as i come back home
😂
Same.
Thank you for posting immediately as I come
I remember autobacs from dtm of all places. In 2003 Persson fielded a Mercedes clk driven by katsutomo kaneishi in full autobacs livery. I have no idea what they were thinking.
Especially since he finished last in the 2003 DTM and went back to Japan afterwards
So much love for Super GT, what an amazing series, great video mate!
I remember watching that 2018 finale at Motegi live on THE RACE (I think it was still called NISMO TV at the time), that race was incredible
Naoki Yamamoto was COOKING that season, pulled the Super GT and Super Formula double
AND OH MAN DO I REMEMBER WATCHING THE 2020 FINALE LIVE-I was hollering
I couldn't believe the absolute heartbreaker of losing the race & championship basically AT THE LINE
You’re so informative it’s ridiculous!! I appreciate your videos. The level of nostalgia this brings me is insane .
7:09 OMG that thing looks like a baby Saleen S7
16:12 Such a minor detail, but I find it funny they have not even used the Marelli font for the large text logo...like whoever was making up the decals just used a standard font and said 'close enough'
Wake up babe, New gt content
My second favorite car in Gran Turismo was the Super GT NSX. I had a Stihl livery on it. My favorite, however, was the Weider Honda. I dominated in that car.
i never thought a video explaining what are pretty much ads would be so interesting and fun to watch, and yes, i would love a follow-up!
26:18 The blue of this car looking closer to purple (at least to me) in this picture, plus the green of the tire and the red of the markings gives me big Eva Unit 01 energy.
it sucks to know my favorite livery (raybrig) was retired. but at least it went out on the highest of high notes 🙏🙏🙏. great video roflwaffle!
I clicked on this video with the question "What the hell is Raybrig?" Thank you for shedding light on that
I always wondered what the Yellow Corn or LARK McLaren's were actually sponsored by. If this becomes a series or at least gets a follow up, those two surely deserve a mention.
LARK is a tobacco brand owned by Philip Morris International, while Yellow Corn is a motorcycle apparel brand.
There also was an ARTA Team in the DTM (I think it was in 2005), where they would use a Mercedes CLK-DTM. Interesting, because Autobacs was never a thing in Germany
That was Katsutomo Kaneishi driving a Autobacs sponsored Persson Motorsport Mercedes CLK in 2003
Loved the video!
I may or may not have cried after seeing the Fuji finish for the first time.
my favorite sponsor has to be asparadrink just because i always thought it was cough syrup when i was younger
Hey Rofl! I want to say you are doing a great job! Keep it up!
PLEASE make that sequel video! Super GT/JGTC Is probably the most interesting racing series I can think of
Another banger, love your videos
Maybe do this with DTM sponsors like Sonax, Dekra, Playboy, Deutsche Post etc
There's also one team with underrated livery. It's Pacific Racing with their Ferrari 488 and Hololive livery.
How dare you lightning round Hatsune Miku
Thank you ^^
EDIT: Also at around 21:40 I'd appreciate a followup video as you could maybe include some of this information!
Best bang for your advertising buck would easily have to be Castrol and Toyota in the early GT games.
20+ years later and older gamers can easily recognise the Castrol Supra (and to a lesser extent, the Celica); its impact is such that still gets modded into other car games to this day
We def need a part 2
It's still unreal to me that your channel exists lol, absolute class since the very first video.
I'm certain that Roflwaffle can read out a phone book and it would still be interesting.
Fun but little known fact: DENSO also invented the QR code in 1994
I loved the video.
For Tachikawa to retire with the only team he's ever known is special.
Yeah, even as far as taking the ZENT sponsor along with him (smh)
Context: Starting from 2024, Team Cerumo, the team where Yuji Tachikawa had raced for, will drop ZENT as their title sponsor and Keeper will be the ones who is sponsoring them
@@LmaoItsDead Bye bye Pachinko.
@@luisy.gonzalez6469it's still there but not a title sponsor
..and now he continues as Team Cerumo's Team Principal. Cerumo eternal.
What a guy!
I actually have been looking for livery ideas and this video is a perfect opportunity
19:32 bruh didnt even need to say the real sponsor, just Hatsune Miku
I alwyas found Cusco funny sounding, cause where I'm from in Brazil that's slang for dog (literally, no innuendo, just dog.)
Man the ending of this video really had me in the feels. Love your videos mate! I'd love to see more videos about these more niche obscure motorsports stories that deserve some love.
Proud to be Malaysian i really love to know how PETRONAS getting into super gt series ..
Amazing video, I remember being shocked a few years ago to find out that Raybrig are no longer around, it'll take me a while to get used to them being gone.
The Loctite/Zexel JGTC GTR is still to this day my favorite livery of all time.
Great video, I love this type of stuff. Please make a video on the more obscure ones as well!
Thank you for making JGTC/Super GT content, there's a criminal lack of people talking about this series 😢
Bro keep the good work stay on the grind
Keep the JGTC/Super GT videos. There are many stories and oddities people need to know about.
Also, RIP Calsonic livery
Thank you for making this video! I’ve been interested in Super GT ever since I bought GT7, but it’s tough to find English-langue content/context about the series
oh whatttt,,, that final raybrig race was incredible
I need to know what for sure Hiroto was. They sponsored an R34 and JLOC but I never knew what they were
Love that my humble Honda CRZ was a Super GT car!
Only in Super GT that a Honda CRZ compete in the same class as BMW, Mercedes and Porsche GT3 cars
@@AdamTheMan1993 Don't forget the V8 powered Prius as well.
@@Axle0Bullitt019 Not just any V8, the same hybrid V8 that was previously used in the TS030 LMP1
It was barely a crz at that point hehe. It was powered by a twin turbo j35 and was rwd
I would love a video about obscure sponsors, great video as always, makes me want to watch super gt. Keep up with the great work😊
s/o to the japanese for picking ordinary sounding english names, making it their company name and it just being cool.
I love this video, thank you so much for this in-depth look at Super GT and it's sponsorships. I would like to see that break down of other sponsers more in depth if you can. I'm sure I'm not alone in that sentiment.
I love how Calsonic and Raybrig both had storybook endings. Also Gran Turismo made every single one of these sponsors iconic outside of Japan
Dude you literally have the same mind that I do the only reason my dad got into super GT as much as he did is because he loved GT3 class racing and adored the liveries of all the cars.. and also because I’m not only because I was born on Gran Turismo but I’m a hardcore Weeb
I actually love your channel by the way absolute class 😊 and yes continue this for as long as you can make it
I feel the same way about the 2004 Raybrig NSX that I do about the 2019 Alfa Romeo F1 livery. The Shell logos make it work.
So many of those legendary sponsors are gone these days. I know they're still the same team, but they have different sponsors to represent. Such as :
ZENT -> KeePer
Calsonic -> Marelli
Raybrig -> Stanley
You have great commentary. As I'm working (I'm a janitor lol) I click my phone off and listen to the videos when I can't watch
