Good and informative video. Owned 2 m47. One in e46 2004 and one in e83 2007(with DPF) both very, very reliable. I sold e46 few years ago with 330k km and current e83 is at 314k km. As far as the engine goes, only thing I replaced apart from regular maintenance were thermostats, although e83 had problems with clogged up EGR which I disabled, but DPF is still working as it should. Looking at b47 for my next daily, either an f25 or an f11.

Great video. I only owned a 330i for a short bit but I'm obsessed with classic BMWs all around, so I enjoy learning as much about them as I can. I currently have an E38 750iL with the M73. I love these types of videos so much that I've considered making a similar video on the E38 7 Series too (it'd be simpler than this E46 vid lol).
@@evanhooper1 everything thats plastic and that fails on a bmw should be metal and its metal on other brands who actually care about the car and its longevity not just a product ( this is a shame because bmw would be amazing maybe too good if they stopped cutting corners for better margins w that cheap plastic crap )
I’ve always loved the look of the E38s! That wide front end is super menacing, and with the V12 I bet it can back up those looks. I hope that eventually I can cover all most if not all BMW models and their engines, but the E38 (as well as E53, Z3, E39) are definitely higher up on the list of videos I want to make sooner.
11:36 thats m50b25 in e36, not m52. Also i think you forgot to mention increased oil consumption in m54 compared to m52 due to piston rings, but still this video is really good and provides a lot of info.
Id like to say, for anyone lookng to buy an e46, go for the 328i version. Simply because the M52TUB28 has better oil control rings around the pistons. The M52 uses much less oil than the M54 does. And while you wont get the power of the M54B30 engine, you can still just swap the headers for catless ones, get the ZHP camshafts and get a proper tune, and you should see power increase from the 192 HP to somewhere around 240.

Some stuff is outright impossible.
Thanks! Yep, it means potential, as in tuning potential to make more power than it does stock. It’s based on both the engines ability to push more power than it did originally as well as the availability of components you can fit to it to boost power (turbos, remaps, bolt ons etc.)

Nice but not to forget the alpina E46 engine variants
and the V8 fitted in the M3 GTR
I think the Alpina tuned/modified engines need a video of their own, they’re way too cool to get lumped in with the stock production engines. Same with the GTR!
i like this video
Please do one for the e90 generation
