My fiancé wanted a MacBook a couple years ago. I asked why don’t I get you a windows laptop. She said something on the lines of oh she can use it with work and it will all be connected and what not. I said she could do the same on a windows system. I then showed her the specs of a middle of the ground I think a couple years old Mac books… $1200, I got her a laptop that was $900 and it has much better specs and she started to game on it. The only Apple product that I actually truly enjoy is my iPad because I use it for drawing.
Tablets are the only category I would recommend buying from apple maybe smart watch but only if you have an iphone

the last time ive heard about "Apple Gaming PC's" was like 2-4 years ago, it was rumoured that Appe was planning on making PC for competitive gamers, the 'stupid' part comes on the fact that they supossedl were PC's with a 5000 USD price tag and only were purpossed to play things like CSGO, DotA and LoL (not very demanding games) and it was insane to me that Apple was hinking on charging tha much money wher on the WIndows side a 500 USD PC can do the same
Also their ARM architecture is terrible for gaming compared to x86.

Tell them they can watch Netflix in better quality. Which is not true since using Netflix in a browser runs at 1080p max and at awful bitrate, but I doubt they will be able to tell the difference.

@@qu1253 FYI, Nintendo only really went after Yuzu because the creators of that emulator were locking Yuzu updates and newer versions of Yuzu behind a Patreon paywall, which is very illegal to do.

From my experience as a programmer, the M1 and newer chips are miles ahead of what we even have today. on my M1 MBP I can host 2 dev servers, vscode, and spotify for 8+ hours on battery without the laptop getting warm or lagging at all. For youtube, it can run youtube videos for at least 12+ hours without charge. It has made it possible for me to work on hobby projects when travelling via plane or train. It is definitely not built for gaming though (like 2 hrs of battery life on OSRS)
Apple computers have their place, but gaming is not it
You can get an equivalent to pretty much ANY Apple product at a fraction of the price and it'll probably do better than the Apple product.
I can't even properly run RPCS3 on an M1 system because it doesn't have the hardware needed for it. The m1 chip is legitimately awful and not something that should be celebrated.
Apple silicon is pretty good for what it was designed for office work (web browsing, word, light Photoshop) with long battery life

I love how they strawman and say you need to buy a 3080 when they could have just compared the consoles with the much cheaper 3060, which is only very slightly weaker to the consoles, or the 3070 which is actually more powerful than the consoles and is still cheaper than the 3080. Of course in 2024, any of the 40-series cards are better than the consoles at this point.
It's really annoying to keep hearing or reading that you need an RTX xx80 or an RTX xx90 as a PC gamer when it's not true. The 4070 is a fantastic deal performance per money spent. You can get a PC with that card on new egg for the same cost as buying a Series X and PS5, but it's going to be much better.

This will never happen. Never.
The modular, open design of PC's lend itself to game developers of all types. And in terms of OS, Windows is synonymous with PC's. Apple's locked down, proprietary design, and price point makes it less attractive to PC gamers.
Nobody wants to buy a one-and-done overpriced pre-build that cannot be expanded upon or customized, only to have to do it all again a few years later if they want to keep up with tech.
As a Macbook Pro owner I can say it games pretty damn well compared to old macs. Anything optimized for ARM on the Metal API runs like butter whether its Divinity: Original Sin 2, Minecraft, etc. That said, it's a laptop for work that costs well north of $2K. I didn't buy it for gaming. You could buy a Mac Mini M2, but that is also $1K for a good one. Gaming on Macs is like gaming on your iPhone. It is a nice bonus feature as part of the package, but you would never buy an Apple product for just gaming given the prices and how much more you can get out of a Windows device with a dedicated GPU. I have a PC for gaming. Unless Apple comes up with an Apple TV "Pro" with an M-series chip for less than $300 I don't see them taking the console/gaming market by storm.
What that article mention about consoles running games at 4k 120fps is wrong. Some exclusive console games may run at 4k natively, but only 30 or 40fps. However most of current gen console games use tricks like upscalling / VSR / DSR.
Also Many console fanboys take out of context the fact that the native output image of a console which is indeed 4k is is not the same as the console rendering resolution. I mean I can connect some old PC to a 4k monitor or 4K TV and the Desktop resolution will be 4k. Then I can take some game that is not so demanding and use Nvidia or AMD AI shenanigans to upscale it from a low resolution to 4k and Say: ¨look my old pc can run games at 4k natively just like a modern one 😂¨ when in reality is not doing that.
To be fair tho: Some of the console fanbois don´t even know that the output resolution is not the same as the rendering resolution and also some of the tricks that console do to fool the eye are pretty good.
I thought Apple was making iPhones and tablets, not PC. That's why I don't take it seriously, and it's stupidly funny.
Apple makes PCs, like MAC. But they aren’t windows PCs, usually have all proprietary components, and you generally can’t find one with powerful GPUs, full driver support, etc… Plus most games don’t have a MAC version.
The Apple Silicon is genuinely a great product, and I gotta give Apple the kudos they deserve for that.
That being said, only the Max and Ultra variants have enough GPU horsepower to match what a gaming PC can do. And even then, it suffers from ARM's restrictions, namely efficiency over performance. Apple did wonders with the chip, but a lot of the performance is due to hardware acceleration, not genuine software horsepower.
Man I remember when they were saying this way back when the Power Mac G3 came out, never happened.

well he was right about consoles in one sense. because the spec is known in advance they don't need to compile PSOs during gameplay or in shader pre compilation menus.
Apple and Gaming I feel like shouldn't be two words that go together. Even if they released a gaming device it would give me the same vibes as Google stadia or watching a baby eat an oreo, like "that's kinda cute, but they don't understand what they're doing and its kinda gross."
I still remember this game developer ported his game to MAC and literally say it wasn’t worth it since they got like .04% of their users were on MAC.

Ram chip goes bad? Say goodbye to the entire structure. Good luck repairing at that scale! Here, we'll also throw in paired codes so if you do manage to swap chips, it wont work. :)

If ARM is the future, either make sure companies do not follow Apple's example and instead still do slot in systems like we have now, or burn them all; burning them would make the same enviromental impact this kind of design generates anyway.

I have this argument with my wife *shes not a gamer and is obsessed with apple* I keep telling her that I could literally build something that would shit all over the 2020 iMac 27 inch for a fraction of the cost. And I can make it a hackintosh boot. And she simply doesn’t believe me because Apple is so superior and all of their accessories and products work together seamlessly. I said yeah through Bluetooth and wifi protocols like literally every thing has Bluetooth and wifi, that’s not just an apple thing. I swear most Apple users are cult like.

I've played nms on mac silicon for 70 hours. It runs like shit. I've caught fish in subnautica on macbook. The 30 fps on low settings did not help.

Although I do think what Apple has done for efficient graphics is impressive they have a long way to go before they can be considered competitive with windows gaming. That’s not to deny how impressive the M1 iPads running RE village or death stranding is but we have a long way to go

the cheapest mac for gaming (meaning, more than 8 GB of UNIFIED memory shared with the GPU) is like $2200! and realistically, you would need lik 24 gb ram 8 for the gpu and 16 for the game (AT LEAST) and thats $2200 with a 1tb ssd... 1800 if your willing to go with the bottom of the line MacBook air m2 with 24gb
or 1400 for the bottom mac mini desktop (no monitor) bottom of the line processor w 24gb

Apple marketing and product presentations are amazing to watch if you know nothing about anything. Like when they claimed M1 has 100% (if I remember correctly) better performance over competitive CPU. Like in what universe is that true? There was an asterisk of course, but damn, it is outrageous.

I love apple products. However I will never get an apple computer to game on I will stick to windows for gaming and then use my laptop for work/school.
If I was to be really generous you could say that ARM is the future of gaming Laptops specifically. ARM chips like Apple M series are better suited to portable devices by being far more energy efficient, having better battery life and produce far less excess heat as a result which is the biggest problems with gaming Laptops as they currently exist. While I like macOS in its own right it really isn't suited to gaming by not supporting things like Vulkan or any modern NVIDIA GPUs and Apple's hardware being so restrictive and unupgradable. Admitedly Macs are more capable of gaming than they were before but they're no where close to being 'the future of PC gaming.' There is a far stronger case to be made for Linux being 'the future of PC Gaming' with how Valve has revolutionised gaming on Linux with Proton and hardware like the Steam Deck.

@@jc_dogen I'm not so sure. ARM hardware has gotten pretty fucking competent as of late. It's even capable of running Switch emulation now, and probably even more. I have most of my Switch library backed up to an Android handheld I bought a few months ago.

@@TheAbsol7448 idk what switch nce is. honestly, i'm coming at this from a fairly technical perspective. a lot of the original RISC advantages were absorbed into x86 quite a few years ago with the pentium pro (november 95, just looked it up), which interpreted x86 instructions down into RISC-like instructions before actually executing them and the gap has been gradually closing since. the reason why arm seems massively more efficient is mostly because of priorities. nobody makes x86 chips for phones. if they did, they would also be massively more efficient than the desktop variants because the desktop parts can absorb inefficiencies for maximizing performance. I'm not saying there's no advantage, but I think it's not as big as it might seem, and the advantage of being able to natively run every x86 program is probably bigger.
There is some pretty impressive stuff that a Mac can do (and I don’t entirely agree with your take on the M1), but I can agree that one of them isn’t gaming.
Stuff like Rosetta 2 allows you to use apps that use x86 instructions on ARM, which makes compatibility very good, and on top of that, with Crossover/Wine you can also use Windows apps. Although mileage/performance may vary, it could do it, but it shouldn’t.
The focus of a MacBook is very clearly quick, smooth productivity.
The M1’s mileage seems to vary, and opinions are very mixed. I happily edit videos off of my M1 MacBook, but I wouldn’t touch gaming with a 10 mile pole.
Apple likes buzzwords, something the person writing this article seems to have fallen for. Even past all of that corporate gunk, I like my MacBook Air a lot, but it is NOT a gaming computer, not even close.
I also forgot to mention that people don’t buy Macs to game, which is why almost no devs ever port to it.
Apple silicon is made to be energy efficient first while the high end consumer chips of AMD and Intel are made for raw computational power at any cost, that is why Apple silicon wins handsomely in energy efficient devices but gets absolutely crushed in raw power tasks by PC running either Windows or Linux.
There is no lack of videos about people like Linus making "Mac killers" PCs for the same price of Mac systems and those Mac killers consistently crushing the Macs in both, systentic benchmarks and actual heavy computational tasks like gaming or video rendering.
Yes, those Mac killers are power hogs which need way more cooling and consume up to ten times as much electrical juice than the Mac they defeated but that is a non issue for hardcore gamers, they get into PC gaming knowing that their systems will be power hogs which will need radiators or chunky heatsinks with lots of case fans for their systems to perform up to expectations and accept that trade; next to none gammer really cares about their systems power efficienty or how much heat and noise their system produces as long as it performs handsomely, things that are sale points for Mac systems.

Apple could make their machines good for games if they wanted. They have these big fancy gpus they market for tons of money. But they want developers to use their technology. They could have done something similar to how proton works on linux, but nah they don't actually care.

windows 95 just came out in 95 he mustent of had a cd drive i was 5 had a first gen nvida gpu and a pentum 2 i deleted system32 because it was the biggest file i had left and needed more space for games lmao bam 400 cnd in 1995 down the drain thats 727.62 cnd now
PC refers to IBM Compatibles. Maybe we should call them ICs? Any way, my point is that Apple cannot be the future of PC Gaming because it is not a PC, it is not IBM Compatible. The article is based on a fundamental misunderstanding of computing hardware. And architecture. And software.
Also, the biggest advantage of PC (IBM compatible) gaming is its inherent freedom. I am free to choose my hardware. I'm free to choose my software. Apple is loathe to give their customers such freedom. Even if Apple developed some cutting edge gaming tech and sold it for pennies, I would stick with PC. In that sense (in addition to the previous), Apple will never be the future of home-computer gaming.

I am a HUGE fan of Apple but in NO WAY is Apple the future of PC gaming.
Even though I dislike apple with a passion I am glad they went to the M series chips... (maybe its because I don't have to deal with the growing pains XD) We have been on the x86 architecture for an insane amount of time and its not because its the best.
I just REALLY REALLYYY dont like the idea of everything being on the chip. Throws both repairability and upgradeability out the window. If the ram chip goes to shit, the entire core is compromised. That is ridiculous: you can keep it in your laptops, dont touch my tower
Also pretty uncomfortable with the idea of potentially each laptop company making their own silicon. As we've seen from Apple's actions, that spells to me like the ultimate hardware lockdown. No escape from the garden, no other choice.
Even if Apple genuinely had better hardware than most consoles (which they won't), I still wouldn't buy from them. Their devices are the most locked down things I've used. I'd rather learn to use Linux by myself than use MacOS.

linux is at least 100x better at gaming than MacOS. it's like Linux gaming but pushed a decade, it's not pretty.I own a macbook air m1 and you're just not playing modern games on it. can't even play CS2.
that being said, the $1k monitor stand isn't that bad when you consider that the monitor was already at least $1k under market value compared to the competition, and nobody is forcing you to pay for it, you can just buy the vesa mount which is way cheaper, plus I believe you get a discount on the stand if you buy it with the monitor but I could be wrong. either way get a $30 monitor arm or aftermarket stand if you don't care about looks.
I'm not saying $1k for an arm is a good deal (it's not), I'm saying that you don't have to buy it and buying the monitor it's made for would save you money by buying a vesa kit instead.
I have an M1 and it's not stuttery or laggy at all. it probably was a transitional lag, it's not that bad on new MacOS

Nah bruh idk what you went through.. might be unique to you.. myself and my family all had M1 related Apple devices and we never had a minutes problem. It’s been great. As great as I think the Apple silicon is and my experience with it, it is most definitely not the future of gaming.
