Dangai Ichigo seemed so incredibly powerful that as a kid I was mad that he even used mugetsu. To me it looked like he could have simply beaten Aizen as he was at that point. I understand now that Aizen was basically immortal and would just surpass him with the Hogyoku eventually, but as a kid I was thinking Ichigo had him so outclassed.
What if Ichigo didn't try to kill Aizen? What if he just put him in a headlock and dragged him to Muken or some other thing that Urahara prepared maybe?

Dangai Ichigo just has that vibe that he can beat virtually anyone in the verse. He may not the absolute strongest but he has that vibe that he is. It's awesome

Ichigo always had endless potential, however after soul society arc up until his encounter with tensa zangetsu, doubt and despair began imbuing into him (as mention by gin ichimaru during their fight and afterwards by tensa zangetsu) that nerfed his abilities. Ichigo in this state was still able to sense aizen that foreshadowed how his abilities would exponentially increase once he would regain his resolve. His stamina feat is much astonishing, considering he spent 3 months training and straight up went to dominate aizen of all people.

People say Ichigo is a hollow and bland protgonist, but even when his sole Motivation is being able to protect his friends, Ichigo has shown so many layers that at least to me resemble a real person

I think the issue is that ichigos character of “fighting for your friends” eventually became a cliche, and with so much time passing since the og anime and the length of it ppl don’t realise or forgot that it was only a part of his character. Same thing with him being able to tap into specific parts of his power eventually becoming the cliche of Shonen asspulls, issue is that unlike the cliche ichigos powers had more thought behind them (that being that they conflict with each other and nerf him)

This form is one of my all time favourite variants in many a history. Not only bcuz of design and it's feat but also what this form represent, everything Ichigo went through mentally and physically. Its just a very poetic form.
The "mountain destruction" was never about them using spiritual pressure, but rather just the deflected offshoot kinetic energy obliterating mountains as they continuously swing their swords. Aizen casually launched a blast that out performed nuclear warheads just to "show off" his new strength to ichigo, but he could have easily launched 6 of those at the same time.
I will always love how the fight with Aizen didn’t play out ANYTHING like I had predicted, or like a lot of Shonen anime. The fact that Ichigo could not only wipe the absolute floor with Aizen, but feels somewhat “sad” (for lack of a longer, deeper breakdown) about how outclassed Aizen is…man…it was just a great final battle. 🙂
After looking back at the design of Final Getsuga Tenshō and contemplating the implications of the appearance of Ichigo's shihakusho in bankai, as well as Getsuga Tenshō's evolution throughout the series as a technique till the point of Mugetsu's utilization, I've arrived at a conclusion of sorts. Final Getsuga Tenshō might not even be a separate form. I think it's simply what occurs when Dangai Ichigo uses Getsuga Tenshō. Initially, Getsuga Tenshō is just a jagged and unkempt, almost, linear wall of immense reiatsu, then we see black Getsuga, which is more consistent throughout, so to speak, and fluid, like a traditional wave. We then see it wrap around Zangetsu, and I suppose the final stage of Ichigo's merging with Zangetsu(s) would see that the Getsuga enshrouds not only Zangetsu in black reiatsu, but Ichigo's own body, seeing as the two have become so intimately linked. Really explains why FGT's features are the same midnight black as white's own signature black Getsuga Tenshō; that's exactly what it is, it's the reiatsu gathered by performing a normal Getsuga (in bankai) which would usually converge around Zangetsu, converging instead upon him. It's just that now both halves of his soul are accounted for in that Getsuga, I suppose. It makes sense that this would happen too, in a way. His shihakusho is representative of his reiatsu, so it being drastically altered by him forcing out _all of it_ makes sense. We interestingly see it similarly disperse as pure reiatsu upon Ichigo's defeat at the hands of Ulquiorra where he was run through the heart, revealing his standard shihakusho beneath. He was not _at all_ lying when he said he _became_ Getsuga, he is literally wrapped in one made of his very reiryoku.
Also, I appreciate the poetic beauty of Mugetsu, for when Ichigo uses it, his slaying moon is no more, and laid to rest, replaced, instead, by a tranquil moonless sky.

Was there a chance that once obtaining the ability to perform 'mugetsu', Ichigo indirectly lost the capability to use the "normal" Getsuga Tenshou? In the sense that, if he mentally decided to use the technique, Zangetsu and Ichigo would just transform into Getsuga himself, initiating the final Getsuga Tenshou. Almost like a condition: the next Gestuga Tenshou WILL be your final, period.

Bleach has a strong correlation between "names" and strength; knowing the name of an attack makes it stronger, chanting a kido spell makes it stronger (kinda related), knowing the name of your Zanpakuto allows shikai, etc.
With that in mind, I can't imagine that he'd be completely locked out of normal Getsuga Tenshou until actually triggering the "Final Getsuga Tenshou", which would then just be the Mugetsu.
Sort of like how Yumichika calls the wrong name for his Shikai to stunt its proper transformation, and how Renji's bankai is incomplete until after his training with the Zero Squad reveals his zanpakuto's _proper_ bankai name. Do it right, or it all goes sideways.

I dont think so , final getsuga tensho is a form and mugestu is the name of the attack. So technically since Dangai Ichigo still has his spiritual pressure there should be no problem for him the whip out Getsuga it just he doesn't need to.

I think the reason some people think that the fragor feat makes Monster Aizen mountain level is because they forget about the whole reishi density thing. I think it was explained in the Isshin vs Grand fisher fight where Isshin talks about why captains don't walk around with skyscraper sized zanpaktou. It's very likely that the fragor was an incredibly dense reishi attack.
My hypothesis is that Mugetsu was meant to defeat both mentally and physically Aizen, as Urahara's seal activated because Hogyoku didn't recognize Aizen as his master after he was cleaved by Mugetsu.

Dangai Ichigo is the state where they are so in sync they no longer have to communicate. Hence his stillness.
Edit: It's a solution to the "King and the Horse," riddle Ogihci presented to him before. You don't have a power struggle if you're both the horse and the king, and, hence, no waste whatsoever in power or decision. It's not that Ichigo _gained_ power, it's that he simply stopped wasting it.

Your intro for this video is the most succinct summary of Ichigo's progression (Soul Society Arc --> Dangai) I've seen. I'll definitely keep this video bookmarked for when I have to try to explain this to others. Very nice work.
Also Mugetsu's design is cool. I didn't get the bandages at first either but there is a reason for it. As is common knowledge by this point in Bleach there is a release beyond Bankai where in you merge with your Zanpakuto. Aizen has this Dangai Ichigo has this. The reason Ichigo is wrapped with Reiraku. Is because he wraps his first for Shikai with them and it's meant to show he has merged with his Zanpakuto. Also them being Black is meant to show his transcendence. Also he has red eyes just like Yhwach.

@@mikeoxlong9955 yeah. now that you mention it, ever since we learned that his quincy side was secretly his default powers until the forging of True Zangetsu, I had a hunch that him losing his "Shinigami" powers after using Mugetsu can be taken as him using his version of Quincy "Letzt Stil". Both techniques have same principle of a massive power boost at the cost of losing them permanently after it is over. The writing was RIGHT THERE in our faces and we still call Kubo out for the quincy reveal.

Im pretty sure many people missed this but, ywach are basically being killed by Ichigo with gran ray cero getsuga and bankai getsuga. if it wasn't for his immortality, ywach would already been dead. That how powerful he is when he's at full power. Also the fullbring form, ywach proceed to invade soul society as soon as he know Ichigo is fighting quilge.
You mention Isshin being of a royal bloodline. If who I saw in the TYBW episode is Isshin, does that technically mean that Kukaku is family to Ichigo?

I think it's important to note that he only regained this same power during horn of salvation if I'm not mistaken. This means that, during the TYBW, when he was able to fight 4 Sternritters solo, without even using Shikai as far as I recall, he wasn't even at Dangai level. It's kinda insane to think about, considering how each of those same Sternritter were way stronger than the post time-skip Captains.
It never referred to Horn of Salvation that Yhwach statement referred to True Shikai Ichigo but even then the Yhwach statement is funny. The Blade is me is much better proof as Zangetsu himself stated that until now ichigo has only been using a fraction of his power meaning all of his previous forms are weaker than his post royal guard training level of power. The only reason why ichigo wasn't trancended when he fought the sternritters is because he was being casual not serious at all. We know this because when he confronts Yhwach with Orihime in the final fight Yhwach comments on Ichigo's spiritual pressure. It's pretty evident that Ichigo was holding back against anyone who isn't Yhwach
I disagree regarding Yamato. That statement is completely based on his mentality and how back then he would’ve exploited everything and everyone and he’s gotten weak. If Yamato wasn’t a threat physically then there would be no reason to use a fake to fight him. Yamato now cares about his subordinates as shown by his extreme rage at his vice captain being killed and his banki stolen and used. He went out of his way to kill the dude who took it and to mock him. He was so angry that he didn’t notice that the Yheatch he was fighting wasn’t the real one or even close to as powerful nor did he use any abilities specifically to Yhwatch. He fought Yhwatch before and the twin he fought can’t copy abilities only appearances and memories. He literally didn’t have to use the other directions of his bank to beat fake Yhwatch at all but chose to do so
I feel like if Dangai Ichigo were excepted as a full on Shinigami rather then a substitute he'd be made Captain right away. His power level alone was insane in that form, or on the flipside the Soul Society could have seen him as an even greater threat then Aizen and turned on him, sealing him away as well.
He probably wouldn’t be a captain unless he beat kenpachi and took that position. Captain isn’t about being powerful, it’s about being Able to actually lead. The power comes with the talent and experience to do that. Only thing is you can brute force the kenpachi position

A very underrated feat
I've always knew that dangai ichigo is very underrated and insanely powerful. If you think about it ichigo was able to slam even monster aizen without trying at all. Just imagine how insanely powerful ichigo would be in dangai form if he was actually trying and was extremely determined like he was in the Soul Society arc, it would be fking crazy 🔥🔥🔥
I never knew people actually believe that Full Hollow was stronger than Final Getsuga. I really enjoyed the breakdown of his emotional state and plot relevancy to his massive power increase. Top tier stuff.
Dangai Ichigo to me is like the graphic card GTX 1080Ti when it first came out, an absolute beast. Even Kubo, like Nvidia, realized his error and kind of brushed the incident under the rag, only having his majesty pay lip service to the transformation in one of his monologues. Sadly, it was the first & last time we saw young Tensa Zangetsu & full hollow white with his awesome mask in the same panel.
Tensa Zangetsu was basically young Yhwach on Horn of Salvation form which Ichigo used in his battle with Soul King Yhwach.

For me it was more about how they managed to show him exude confidence, power, and control in a matter-of-fact way. This version of Ichigo would make you feel that he already won the fight before it even started and he was already tired of it all, just with one look.
Imagine if during the Cell arc, Gohan managed to reach SSJ 2 or even Mystic form earlier than intended (but the audience wasn’t shown this), came out of the training chamber, and days before the cell games even started he visited Cell and looked at him with actual pity and such sadness that communicated to the viewer that the fight was far, far beneath him and meaningless.
It would give you the same chills, as you’d see Cell refusing to accept that internally every fiber of his being already accepted defeat, and he’s too ashamed to admit it.
Dangai is the 3rd stage after bankai that a soul reaper can achieve where the zanpakuto starts to merge with the soul reaper body and Mugetsu is the 4th where is becomes one with the body (same was shown with Aizen's transformations) + all the powers that Ichigo has from all the other races. And now imagine all that but with his perfected zanpakuto.
Good point, it explains why Yamamoto’s flames become apart of himself in bankai.

Hey Clyde, love your videos brother. Could you maybe explain how Ichigo's powerscaling works throughout the series (including manga would be great). Basically a video where you rank ALL of Ichigo's forms at different parts of the story by power. I've seen a lot of contention on this topic with people saying that his badge made him weaker and that somehow soul society Ichigo is stronger than the Ichigo who fights Ulquiorra the first time, and some even say soul society Ichigo is Ichigo's strongest form behind Vasto Lorde and Dangai. If you could explain this topic in a video I think it would clear up a lot of confusion for a big part of the community. Thanks!

The way you put it makes the most sense, honestly. And just regarding Ichigo in general, it's actually quite interesting and mysterious that he even has a zanpakuto. From what we know in TYBW, Oetsu is the only person capable of making them and Ichigo just poofs one into existence, albeit not a fully realized one. Although I'm not 100% certain it's because of the Hogyoku that was in Rukia's chest at the time, it could be capable of manifesting an approximation of a physical zanpakuto given everything else it's been shown to do. Dangai Ichigo and Aizen both became *approximations* of the strength of the Royal Guard, somewhere between normal Shinigami and Royal Guard. Therefore, the pre-TYBW Zangetsu sword is an approximate replica of a standard zanpakuto, with the obvious differences being that it holds Ichigo back somewhat power-wise and it didn't start as an asauchi. I doubt that many characters in the Bleach universe are able to tell it's not a real zanpakuto, maybe Aizen, Urahara, or Mayuri could. Though, from what we've seen in the TYBW anime so far, Mayuri doesn't seem to be able to tell.
This is more of an on-the-spot ramble, but I think it's an interesting topic to think about and/or fully work out with enough time and effort.
I'm pretty sure it's just a spirit sword, like some of the Qunicy use. It also tracks with Old Man Zangetsu creating a bunch of fake blades out of nowhere for Ichigo's Bankai training.
Also, Dangai Ichigo and Hogyoku Aizen would SLAP the Royal Guard. Either one would make what Ywach did look gentle.
There's a reason for it but I'm not gonna say it cuz the anime hasn't covered it yet (I'm guessing you're an anime-only). All your questions about Ichigo having a "zanpakuto" not made by Oetsu will be answered in due time

I would say that his og Zanpakto is essentially a real zanpakto. Made of the same substance, functions the same way, ig there could be some potential of it minorly impacting his overall output but I really don't think so. In fact I think og Zangetsu would have augmented his powers further (positively) if anything else.

When he shows up as dangi and his banki theme plays it’s one of my most favorite scenes in any anime every one shocked by the way he locks and how he looks so calm and confident with the theme it’s just epic
I would personally say ichigo got 100s of times stronger from getting healed after the ulquiorra fight.
He is now strong enough to damage aizen something no of the captain level shinigami could do

Hey Clyde, something I wanted to point out about the mountain evaporating in the dangai vs aizen fight. Aizens casual sword swings are not the ones whipping mountains away, its only when Ichigo parries the swing that the landscape is destroyed. The only swing Aizen makes that actually changes the landscape without contact like Ichigo's parries is his full power swing that Ichigo catches. Ichigo is so beyond Aizens power at that stage that his casual parrying of Aizens attacks do more damage than Aizens full power swings.
Its probably not a super important detail but I figured I'd point that out.

It’s just his casual parries. Ontop of this, there’s no shockwave effect. The effects in manga and anime all point to spiritual pressure waves disintegrating mountains. The most evidence available for this instance is ichigo casually erasing matter with a sliver of his spiritual power…
Correct me if I'm wrong. In the last chapter of the Aizen arc, Rukia states (based on Urahara) that the time lapse the body experienced in the Dangai flows backwards. This would seem to suggest that he was always going to revert to just before he went into the Dangai but since he used Mugetsu, he just lost his powers completely. Which is a shame if true as Dangai Ichigo would've made later parts very trivial. Although it does read that Ichigo losing his soul reaper powers is the catalyst which is making the Dangai time flow backwards, suggesting that if he kept his powers he would've stayed as Dangai Ichigo. What are your thoughts Clyde? Love the vids anyway.

With all of these details and everything we still get the "oh Bleach is hill level" and when shown proof that it's much higher in power they just deny it . But other than that awesome video will be rewatching it lots of small details that you put in makes it so much better

This form was just as overpowered as I remembered it being, it is the form that always left the biggest impression in the Bleach Anime. The series could have very well ended with Aizen's defeat with Final Getsuga Tenshou being the Climax. Of course, then the series continued with new antagonists & Ichigo trying to regain some of his lost power.
I think dangai is a form anyone in ichigos soul reaper blood line can reach. I think it's even theorized that that is what was used by their elder to help put down the soul king.

You can argue that he didn't use specific abilities or wasn't specifically aware of each of them, but he never does even after "awakening" them in TYBW. When TZ and White merged together all of his powers combined and through months of training he "mastered" them. Not in the sense of knowing "hey I'm a perfect hybrid of everything" and here are all my specific abilities and these are how they all function, but in the sense that he controlled all his powers and latent abilities
This is my favorite form of ichigo and better than anyone in TYBW. He was unkempt, underrated, and literally caught Aizens sword. No moment will be so cool. Gins last words speak so much to it. He trusted it all to Ichigo
You point out what I've always been saying to people. The gotei 13 got wrecked because they are stagnant, they don't grow. I'm not saying they don't take training seriously, it could just be that at their age it's harder for them to grow but that doesn't change the fact that they don't grow in power.
Up until now the only reason soul society is still standing is because ichigo kept growing, without him they'd all be fucked

Why does nobody mention that Ishida did something similar? During his fight with Mayuri Ishida sacrificed his powers for temporal boost in power allowing him to defeat captain using bankai (and Ishida in ss arc was way weaker than in hueco mundo arc). In TYBW we learned that "Zangetsu" was form of Ichigo's quincy power and he was the one that teached Ichigo about mugetsu, Ichigo even got his power back same way as Ishida (pierced by reiatsu).
In conclusion mugetsu seems to be the same forbidden quincy ability Ishida used in ss arc, draining all of the user power for one moment
Remember ichigo was 15-16 years old against Aizen
And btw i dont think dangai ichigo had a lot of his quincy powers because his quincy power were activated in tybw and not in fake karakura town
Wow. As a Bleach fan for almost a decade, I am blown away by what you were able to analyze here. This video is marvelous, just marvelous.
I still think it’s fully supported that even dangai ichigo is only a portion of his power, otherwise zangetsu wouldn’t have said that knowing he literally taught ichigo this form and trained him.
Remember, if the badge argument holds truth, dangai ichigo still had the shinigami badge that is compared to the seal that captains use in real life and restricts him to about 20% of his total power, now, imagine dangai ichigo and mugetsu without the shinigami badge. Ichigo in dangai form would probably slap aizen until the hogyoku breaks.
Ichigo had just fought constantly for three months, strolls up, and hands it to a 5D guy at 20% power without even understanding or using his Quincy abilities.
Bleach is peak fiction.

How strong do you think the captains like Shunsui and Kenpachi get if they went through the Dangai training?
well they will absolutely get much much stronger no doubt, but will never come close to dangai ichigo form coz only he had the specific conditions to achieve his form as explained in the vid while ppl like kimpachi even tho super powerful they r just shinigami
so the way i interpreted the "mountain" feat was, not destroying a mountain by a shockwave, as there is no shockwave. Rather, the mountain, similar to how Aizen walks up to a human being, was just poofed out of existence. Like a shockwave would send a, well, a wave and destroy everything leading into the mountain, not just the mountain. It's funny how later Aizen's blade gets stopped, and an ACTUAL shockwave forms, creating a canyon as it's path just keep crushing the ground, yet when Ichigo and Aizen clash, it clearly shows there is some external force simply reaching the landmass and as illustrated in the manga, POOF. In the Anime, it even has the spiritual pressure effect and the mountain suddenly rises into the air and disappears. This would mean, effectively and unintentionally, Ichigo is erasing matter. Kind of compliments the idea that he can backhand a blackhole when you think about it. However, that was always just my interpretation i could be 100% wrong.

At 2:43 I'd like to mention that byakuya's dialogues can be interpreted in 2 ways , one being him just rejecting ichigo cuz he doesn't acknowledge him , second him being correct because as we know in tybw that was not his true zanpakutou and as byakuya said "a bankai can never be so small and giving just a stat boost in speed" cuz it wasn't his true bankai to begin with

It also took me 3 months to get through this video. I do believe Dangai Ichigo is the strongest character we've ever seen in Bleach and that no one is transcendent but Ichigo & Aizen in Deicide with the exception of maybe Reio in his prime.
Dangai Ichigo is not the strongest character in Bleach lol. Ichigo and Aizen both get way stronger after their fight.

Just an Idea, how well could have the Espada at full power defended against an Invading Quincy army (no Yhwach tho, just Sternritter and Soldat).
I think it'd be cool if you made a video of how well Vasto Lorde Ichigo would fair in the TYBW arc Sternritter, The Zero Division and even against some of the newly improved captains of the Gotei 13.
I’d say vasto lorde ichigo could defeat most of the sternritter with the exception of elites such as Gerard, Lille, Pernida, and probably Hashwalth. I’d say when it comes to the improved captains, vasto lorde would probably struggle against Bankai kenpachi but still defeat adult toshiro and royal training byakuya with mid difficulty
