Rudy needs to stop and take a break because this is gonna be just like "Dreams and Reality" with Eris all over again by him doing it with Sara but at the wrong time. And that's how Rudeus is back to hitting rock-bottom.
ED is common effect of PTSD. This man literally was killed twice, tried to heal and every time the person walked out on him. This is a strong reflection of depression, PTSD, and how quickly suicide happens.
What were the two times? I only remember one...
And yes I can confirm that Eris Damage is a common effect of coming back to life.

Rudy's "knife scene" as I'll call it, is honestly a really good depiction of someone's split second decision to unalive themselves when they are on the very edge and their brain is overloaded with negative emotions. It didn't have build up. It wasn't planned and played out/sad like how most anime or other shows usually portray suicide. It is just a split second decision when he is at his lowest that could've have cost him not his first, but second life.
It really hurt to watch...
three things have saved me from that kinda decision before: the lack of guns in my country, the fact that my fear of pain still outweighed my will to not have to feel, and having supportive friends and family. if either of those variables werent there a few years back, i would probably not still be here

This episode also really hit close to home for me too because I have had my own suicidal tendencies and have also had my share of ED.. So just seeing him go through this was rough.
It was painful for me too. Just like Soldat's quick reflexes stopped Rudeus from offing himself, some friends of mine caught me before I could end all the pain. When you're deep into depression, even though you can make steps forward to climb out of it, it can be a single action or event that drops you already back down again and all you have is pain and death seems like the best way out.
I wasn't close to the person in question but I know a guy who killed himself hours after his girlfriend broke up with him so yeah I like how they depicted it in a realistic way.
@@mezacharia While people with depression might disagree from someone who doesn't have depression the scariest thing about it is how it's a combo of low serotonin (Which is the chemical that makes you happy) and low dopamine (Which is the chemical that makes you motivated) so not only are you unhappy you lack the motivation to do anything.
Rudeus with the knife at his throat caught me off guard. He showed no hesitation 😥, but luckily he was quickly stopped by Soldat
Soldat became one of my favorite side characters in this series just like that.

Manga skipped a lot of content. For this one, it's supposed to be in LN vol 7 which manga skipped all of it completely.
They may joke around a lot but they easily got why Rudy is in such a dark place right now. He feels like everything he's done, he's just screwing up. Eris left him and he's still not sure why, and he's suspecting it's because he's bad in bed, which led him to have "stage fright" when he was with another girl. He lost his manhood, now he lost Counter Arrow too. I'm sure it also hurt him that he hurt Sara. Thankfully SolDad was there.
Im guessing watching it in group is uncomfortable so theyre coping with throwing jokes and laughing bec theyre 2 underage animated person naked in the screen

@@orabijuu8550 Roshi and Lupa has been watching anime since they were kids, so probably 90s or at least early 2000s, and there were a lot of wild old school animes. I seriously don't think they'll be uncomfortable just with the Rudy and Sara on the bed scene which is honestly pretty mild. They don't seem to be that sensitive type. Not saying that they probably think it's all fine, but they just don't seem the type to be uncomfortable with these kinda things.
Soldad for real. Rudy majority of his life hasn't had a father figure. As much as I love Paul as a character, he isn't the best father at least for Rudy.

Well, he is a high ranked adventurer. The swordsmen can use internalized mana to boost their speed and durability so he'd normally be way faster than Rudy. It's also why he was able to tank those full weight downwards punches by Rudy (who is pretty jacked by now) and why Eris was able to survive getting embedded in the wall when Orsted threw her.
Literally if he had been one frame slower the credits woulda rolled

This episode hurt to watch. That depression was palpable! I can’t blame him for feeling suicidal, his first love ditched him and he doesn’t know why, and he just hurt another person he really cared about while he was just trying to gas himself up!
And in the process, he lost his new friends (Counter Arrow), Suzanne, who's always nice to him calling him out in the end was the nail in the coffin.
Man this episode does a great job of really showing how fucked depression can be and what a true snap decision is like when you see it. This was the scene I was actually excited the most about, because everyone's natural reaction is to laugh at Rudys suffering until the knife comes out and reactions change VERY quickly.
Soldat is a true bro in this arc and stopped bullying / expecting everything from Rudeus when he picked up on the pain he was in.
The great thing about Soldat, is he want bullying Rudy, he was criticizing his habit of masking his feelinga off, it's more clear on japanese, but Rudy has a bad habit of being super formal even with family, and in his depression, he was trying to copy Timothy with his way of interacting, but obviously that wasn't working for Rudy as he is unable to even make eye contact during the past 2 episodes, when the mask comes off, Soldat just realizes "this is the real Rudeus" and a real friendship is able to surge, he truly is a real one

According to LN readers, Sara was actually on her way with Suzanne to apologize to Rudeus but then she heard Rudy trash talking her. It's so unfortunate. Both of them didn't mean what they said and were just coping with their situations. Although I think that Sara was way harsher. I do hope someday that they patch things up because it hurts that they would just separate in bad terms like this.

No lie, the voice acting when Rudy was venting to Soldat was top tier. You could feel that emotion and pain every time he would take a deep breath so he could force more of his sorrow out. Soldat is the truest definition of a real one.

I like that everyone talking shit on his ed, when an embarrassing moment like that can destroy you as a person. If you actually listen to what sara is saying in that moment is terrible. I know Rudeus isn't a great person, but put yourself in that scenario.
Rudeus is one of the best people in this world. I don't get where people are getting this nonsense that he's bad. He's literally spent the last 14 or so years trying constantly to self improve.
We all do fucked up or harmful shit throughout our lives. Rudeus is no different as anyone else aside from having two life times of trauma.

In Rudy's defence, he didn't expect or want her to hear those mean comments; Sara said all her mean comments to his face. I'm of the opinion you can't expect people to talk nice about you to others after you beat them down. And you can't tell people never to see you again and expect them to stick around. If he had intentionally said all those things to her, they would be even. She said untrue stuff to make herself feel better and to save face to Rudy. Rudy said untrue things about her to Soladat to make himself feel better and to save face in front of Soladat.

Eris basically abandoned Rudeus and wrote a letter that would probably have some people crying in a corner after reading it, I don't exactly remember what she wrote, but I remember reading someone's comment that basically said that Eris didn't even mean anything by what she did and wrote, meaning that to Rudeus, she abandoned him, but to Eris she probably woke up early and went to work, leaving a letter saying "Breakfast is in the microwave". I can definitely imagine that Eris didn't even see her action and the letter she wrote as something negative.
She wrote a single line roughly translating to "We're not a good match right now".
While what she meant to say was "I feel like I'm not strong/good enough for us to be equals in this relationship right now".

I honestly don’t blame Eris at all. I can’t imagine loosing pretty much everyone you love and as much as I feel bad for Rudeus I feel like he’s making the same mistake he did last season and forgetting about his family and the people who have been with him since day 1.
I'm surprised many didn't predict what Rudeus would do with the knife. He's depressed out of his mind, he feels no purpose, his friends keep leaving him, women keep leaving him, he just lost his almost girlfriend when he was drunk, and that's still not everything.
Tbf, very depressed people can be hard to predict. I've actually experienced ED a few times before, and have just recently been broken up with from a 7 year relationship. Of course I'm very depressed and tbh also have S thoughts sometimes, but even I, who experienced kinda same things with Rudy, didn't predict what he was gonna do with that knife. I thought he was just looking at it for sentimental reason. So it also caught me off guard when he attempted to delete himself.

At the end was just bad timing with Sara (plus was kinda an accidental "payback" for how she treated him when he could not get up), and he was drunk, also with all the shit he has to deal with already (But who cares about Sara, right ? team RGB for the win) Elinalise on the way to save Rudeus from his ED. Also, Soldat best bro.
The subs this episode weren't the best. The ones I watched with felt more accurate. Still, yeah shit's was a train wreck at its finest.

I don't care if she's embarrassed by the situation or what, none of what she did was called for. She could've just left, she didn't have to shoot him down like that and hurt him then have the damn nerves to be offended in the end. Things calm down you can talk things out later but words are spoken, it's left in the open air and we as people are gonna over think it in many different ways; both men and women.
My large problem is that she said all that awful stuff then expected him to not be mad and a gentleman about it. You don't get to stuff like that then expect him to be nice. Nor is he obligated to be nice after that.

It's all Orsted's fault really. If he didn't attack them unprovoked, Eris wouldn't have left Rudy and he wouldn't have had this trauma. So Rudy needs to clap Orsted's cheeks to claim dominance. That's the only way to solve his ED.

Rudy chose to speak to Orsted instead of letting him pass even after seeing his friends reactions. That's 100% on him.

I noticed from a lot of reactors most people laugh at rudy this whole episode till he tries to off himself and it hits that rudy really is sad af he gets left and feels like an obligation and has ED
As weird as this might sound, I really like the developments this episode lol. I didn't really like Sara and her reaction to the situation was kinda shitty, I'm glad we got homie Soldat and leaving that romance storyline behind.
Also, the way Eris leaving made Rudeus afraid of being abandoned after getting with women makes so much sense for his character, I'm glad stuff like that wasn't just brushed over in the first episode and that we will see him taking his time to heal and grow.
It's still one of the best written anime i've ever seen

11:24, signs are there, dude feels like his life is over (with a lot of previous episodes of ready to give up and die at any moment- first time facing the bears, second time we saw when facing the lizards) with just one strand of hope left when he saved her, and she got closer and intimate with him, to then completely lose even that last single strand of hope he was grasping at in this exact moment...while drunk...with a knife thrown at his feet...
I don't remember this scene happening in the LN so I wasn't expecting it but the moment she threw the dagger at his feet even before he unsheathed it my first thought was "this dude's about to try to do something really stupid here".
Episodes like these really bring to light how the show runners are really putting in a lot of effort in this production with all these small details if you take the time and pay attention to the details. So nice to watch a work of love from the author adapted as a work of love from the studio.
i’ve been through what rudeus has been through. shits sucks and really embarrassing. last year when my ex and i broke up, i trynna get it with another girl to “forget” her. but shit just won’t work💀💀💀 i mean it does get hard, but when i try to put it in bro 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀 anyways, sht takes time, and eventually it’ll work normally again. i hope rudeus will be able to get lil man back up too
“Just cause you have problems sir” bro she kicked my mans while he was down, he was finally beginning to open himself up to people again and the way she handled it really broke him. Sure he said some messed up shit but she did too, they address this in the light novel I’m not sure if it’ll get any more time in the anime though

Also, when you really pay attention to how he thinks about Sera, it's almost exclusively as a friend. He wasn't ready at all, and his brain really had to do that.
For anyone who is going through a tough time, especially when it has to do with love or feeling like everything you are doing is wrong.
Take a deep breath, find a way to distract yourself from your own thoughts, and keep moving forward.
Life will eventually get better.
There were points in my life where i felt like Rudy. Hell even going through the same ED as him, in a similar manner. You cant let that get to you. You have to keep fighting and moving forward. And help can come from the most odd places. You just gotta be open to accepting that help.
Was honestly surprised by the community's generally positive response to this episode considering how much people have been complaining about "nothings happening theres no plot here" the last few eps and they skipped the pretty cool dragon hunt chapter which I was sure would catch some flack. But nope, lots of support for our traumatized boi rudy entering his ED arc
The dragon(wyvern) hunting is on the next episode... You can see the final scene in this episode where the time has been skipped that elinalise heard rumours about Rudy slaying a dragon(wyvern).

I really appreciate the balance you all strike as reactors/commentators. You joke around and are funny and its a blast to watch things with you to elevate the mood, but you are also able to step back and look at someone dealing with trauma and be considerate and analytical and not make fun of them for that. A lot of people are too ready to just mock Rudy's problems, and never try to understand them, but not you. It means a lot to people you'll never meet in ways you might never understand.

In the LN, Elise was chosen since she was the close looking to Eris, hence why she was Red Haired and also when Soldat and Rudy were leaving the red light district, Elise was also with them and gave Rudy a kiss on the Cheek, causing the misunderstanding. And Sara and the rest went to Red Light District to ask what happened and cleared the misunderstanding.

Anyways, Some LN Extra Details (Volume 7, Chapter 5-6 + Epilogue)
- Skipped details on Sara's origin. She was from a village at the western edge of the Milbotts Region, in the middle of Asura Kingdom.
- She became an orphan and was picked up by Suzanne after her family has been killed by monsters
- Some more details regarding Notos Greyrat, which controls the Milbotts Region from Sara's negative perspective is skipped
- Rudeus tried multiple things with Sara when his thing is not rising up before she gives up and left Rudeus.
- This is the first time Rudeus has ever went to red light district.
- Soldat states although he has womens in his clan, they have a strict rule of not having relationship between them to avoid fallout of relationship drama within the clan.
- Rudeus picks Elise, which resembles Eris the most, including the name and looks.
- Elise is grateful to Rudeus for healing her "sister" which is one of the backalley orphan
- Rudeus contemplates if what Elise says to him is a honest talk or a lip service, that a lot of people felt grateful to Rudeus and will not hesitate to serve and please him if he asked for it.
- (Sara's POV)
- Sara was depressed and she thought that her body is too unattractive for men when Rudeus wasn't getting up when he was with her. She cried out whole night while explaning it to Suzanne.
- The next day, they heard that Soldat was dragging Rudeus off to someplace last night and thought he was going to hurt him and went to look for him.
- After Sara calms down, she went to see Elise and gets the full story from her. Elise also defends Rudeus and rebukes Sara on how she leaves him when he needed a support most and told her to leave Rudeus alone.
- Sara became more depressed and thought of apologizing and having a sincere talk with him if she meets him again in the future.
Differences from LN
- Dating scene is oversimplified over an opening, but I think it should be okay since there are no important stuff in there anyway.
- Brothel moments with Elise is simplified
- Elise was with Rudeus and Soldat when they encounter Sara and Suzanne
- Sara's POV after and leaving Rudeus' room, after slapping Rudeus and it's aftermath with Elise is skipped
- Bro moments with Soldat seems simplified although it is there.
- Extra chapter regarding Ariel in the Ranoa University of Magic is skipped. Is is possible that this might be shown in future episodes.
Self Note
- I am very sad that all Sara POV got removed, and she just became a throwaway character in the anime version.
- Did not expected them to finish this arc in 3 episodes. I think they just wanted this to get over with as soon as possible to give more room for the next arc. I hope the sacrifice will be worth it.

It's a cool detail that you can tell that Soldat's defense is so high by the fact that he doesn't even have a scratch on his face while Rudeus's knuckles are skinned and bleeding.
You can also tell that he has fast reflexes from how quickly he kicks the dagger out of Rudeus's hands.

I like how "Soldat" is literally just named soldier because "Soldat" is the german word for soldier. Very fitting.
Yeah, just like you said, Rudeus thought he was doing the best he could (as much good as he could) yet he got abandoned and has no idea why, after a long and grueling journey through the demon continent, etc.
So now he has a fear of abandonment and depression, and after another "failure" with Sara he decided that he has no worth (thankfully Solbro was around). I like how the show is making it a process to work through his issues, similar to how it would actually be in real life. Not just one moment, and he's cured, he has to deal with his issues day by day, some days will be better, some will be worse.
