Orsted seemed too focused on Hitogami to care about that hydra though, he also didnt seem to care about that red dragon on S1E08 when he gave it the "you run now or you'll wish you did" look.
I love how their voices were silent when they returned to meet back up with Lilia and Paul’s team. It really symbolized how Rudy was just tuning everything out in his state of shock.
And I have no problem with it Paul was telling Rudy to do his duty to save his mom at the cost of his life if needed. And Rudy was correct to agree. We later see Paul still intended it be him who dies not Rudy if their is a choice but he did expect Rudy to fully risk his life to save his mother and if him dying to do it was required do it.
5:25 I’ve played games that do that. Once you get close to a specific fight or you get into it, there’s no running. If you can’t figure it out, you just gotta take that L. That would be scary to experience in real life.
8:20 the reason why he didn't mention Rudy is because he just got there while the rest of em has been helping Paul since the Mass Teleportation Incident
I just watch the episode and just mann. this episode is the kind that make me fokus on the story and the moment that i forget to relise how well animated it is
Rudy named his hands "Hercules" and "Hulk" Left and Right respectively way early on. In the myth, Hercules dies to the hydra from the poison and Rudy lost his his left hand.
They actually did this on a Father’s Day knowing that it’ll line up on their time slot. Probably the main reason they picked up this time slot to begin with is to air this episode on Father’s Day.
The way they portrayed how stressful and fast-paced a fight on a dungeon was splendid! Cheffkiss!👌 most isekai fails to do this most of the time, and I'm glad Mushoku Tensei is showing what tackling a dungeon really looks like❤
17:50 There are 4 anime things that break me at least a bit whenever I give them any attention- PlasMemo, SukaSuka, Shizue Izawa, and Zenith Greyrat. The shite Zenith has happen in her life, her falling out with her family, her taking to the road fearfully, her pains of handling Paul's bullshite, losing her son's presence so early, being trapped in a crystal because of aome magic bullshite, losing her husband, and that crap ass situation at the end of this episode....I just wanted her to live a happy life. She is a fantastic lady, with a gigantic heart, with immense love for everyone around her. Having her time and love stolen away is just fucking wretched.
A little more background on why Rudeus was just standing there needing to be saved by Paul. The Hydra ended up squirming around so much that it bugged out his magic eye and he couldn't tell what the Hydra was doing so he froze up.
Bugged out is a weird choice of words. The eye worked fine, Rudy's brain simply cannot keep up due to the chaos and information overload. Also, Rudy always freezes up when he's caught off guard. I've seen other people complain about that, but it's consistent throughout the entire story.
@@lucasvanwijngaarden670 Bro. What do you think bugged out means? It literally means the eye and brain weren't in sync. It bugged out. If he didn't have the eye he would have been able to react just fine to the situation. It was the uncertainty of it all that caused him to freeze up. It was basically like getting blindfolded and told to avoid getting hit while running. He was better off just standing still so his party would notice he was in trouble.
@@starkillermark95 Saying, it bugged out his magic eye, makes it sound to me like the eye is dysfunctioning. I think Rudy would still have been overwhelmed by the chaos and have frozen up if he wasn't using the eye of foresight. Of course that's just my own interpretation.
@@lucasvanwijngaarden670 Let's not get into an arguement over semantics. I don't think Rudues would have frozen up if not for the eye. I mean think about it. He was basically killed by Orsted. Not much is gonna get to a person after that. Plus this time I had many powerful and trustworthy companions that he knew for a fact stood a chance against the Hydra. It wasn't like some uncomprehendable horror like Orsted had been. We also haven't seen him freeze up even once since his fight with Orsted, the times he was hoping to die don't count. That wasn't freezing up that was giving up.
@@starkillermark95 Yeah no point in arguing linguistics. About Rudy freezing up, it's not something he does out of fear. It happens to him when he's caught of guard, when he fails to understand a situation he tends to stand in place till his brain catches up. It's a reasonable reaction for a mage, who normally fights at a relatively safe distance. He's used to having a good view of things and some time to decide on the best course of action in unexpected situations. But close combat fighting requires split second decisions and a good intuition, things Rudy is bad at. The only clear examples I can think of is when Gyes attacks him while saving the sacred beast. Rudy sees with his eye of foresight that Gyes is going to do something but he can't figure out what and instead of attempting to stop whatever Gyes is doing he's stuck trying to figure out what he's going to do. Ghyslaine also noted this as Rudy's biggest flaw as a swordsman early in the novels. He's always trying to figure out what's going on and is slow to react as a result. Which she says is a good quality for a mage, but not for swordsmen. Bottom line is, when Rudy is caught of guard he starts thinking instead of moving.
Some context for cut character from the previous episodes, back when rudeus was traveling whit elinazine they were suppose to encounter a merchant. If Rudy would have stay and follow hitogami advice this merchant would have trigger a butterfly effect that would ended up making another party join Paul and they would have save Roxy and zenith together whiout anybody dying. Also zenith would have been fine and not"mentally disabled" like the current one
1:21 Close enough man. it's a dragon with eyes like Orsted. and it's probably how you can measure Rudeus power level right now. Even with the help from everyone, he's losing an arm and his dad to kill this dragon which probably a tier below Orsted.
@@leonardo835q I think it's not about anti-magic or not. Up until now, most of Rudeus' strongest opponents have always been able to dodge or repel his magic. Perhaps Rudeus' forte lies in how he can find creative ways to use his magic to fight enemies like this, with all the help from allies too to create opening. I didn't say his power level right now is weak though. I'm just saying, he's still in a level in which he's struggling to kill a legendary Manatite Hydra even with this powerful party.
the dragon is no where NEAR orsted, orsted is the second strongest being on the planet and isn't first because of his curses. rudy wasn't even able to scratch badigadi and he isn't even 7th strongest.
@@catsouplover7745 yeah but i don’t really count that when Badi is a regenerator of that level, it’s like blowing off all of Cell’s limbs and saying you did a ton of damage, yeah technically you did, but also you didn’t
Rudy may say that he didn't spend much time with Zenith and thus doesn't feel as attached, and yet while he says this we see his memories of his time with Zenith flashing through his head. Rudy is the type of person who likes to lie to himself.
They delayed one episode just to make sure this was released on Father's day. Either way, Rudy stabbed his hand into the Hydra's eye and cast spell inside its head is badass af.
I think this arc kind of reminded us of how much rudy has changed. Like obviosly weve seen all the small steps so it seems minor and just like hes rudy but seeing him react to his parents just reminded me of him at the start missing his real parents funeral and just reminded me how much hes grown
21:40 if I had a penny for every studio(that I know of) that kills a parent on mother's/father's day, I'd have 2, which isn't a lot but it's weird it happened twice.
21:33 I think in a way what he was trying to say is that while he understands it’s horrible for a parent to ask their own child to worry more about their parents than themselves that he understands Rudy is now a man and capable of looking after the family as a man. So I take it as him saying, “Look after the family, even if it kills you, this is your duty now as a son and as a father” which is even more powerful now that Paul is dead.
I didnt teared up during the episode, but when I realized how Rudy tell this to Norn, that hit me a gut punch. Was Rudy partially peirced Paul and cut him half? Or is it solely due to dragin's bite?
i cried my eyes out, already called my father in the morning, called him back telling him again how much i love him and how awesome he is as a father, he was worried as hell jajaja sorry old man
19:13 Here, Rudi collects what he can of Paul's remains and puts them in a jar he makes with Earth magic. Just thought that should have been in the anime.
Rudy didnt get distracted, the movement that Hydra made was very complicated for him to understand, since she is huge and she used her own body as a whip
Another YTuber posed an interesting theory based on Roxy's mention of the Hydra absorbing mana. That the reason Zenith was encased in crystal and it was guarding her was because she was effectively a captive mana pool it was leeching off of. It would do a lot to explain her taking four days to reawaken, and her condition when she finally did.
In my opinion, Rudy doesn't see Zenith as his real biological mother is because he directly crossed over with his soul. He still retains the memories of his previous life's family, so Paul and Zenith don't quite feel like his original family to him. Even with Paul, Rudy only began to acknowledge their some kind of father-son relationship after Paul's death. Before that, he just thinking him as 'Paul' instead of 'Father,' considering that, in terms of psychological age, Paul is even younger than him.
The following is Paul's last words in the radio play: 『Everyone has an expression that looks like they've seen it before』 『An expression that looks like someone is dead』 『Ah... So that's how it is』 『It's me...』 『The moment the last head approached Rudy』 『I kicked Rudy away』 『Then the nine-headed dragon's head fell down and my lower body was instantly gnawed off by the nine-headed dragon』 『This fatal injury can't be cured by healing magic』 『It was pitch black』 『I couldn't breathe』 『I couldn't speak』 『Am I going to die』 『At least I really hope I can confirm whether Zenith is still alive』 『Not only that』 『I really want to see Norn and Aisha again』 『They should still be in school at this time』 『I wonder if they've grown up well』 『What will Lilia's expression be like when she sees me』 『Even though I've been causing trouble for her all this time』 『Will she cry for me too?』 『Damn, all these things make people nostalgic』 『I don't want to die..』 『There are still a lot of things I want to do...』 『But Let's just forget it' 'It's much better than Rudy dying' 'Take care...Rudy
Paul told Rudues to save Zenith even if it kills him, but it didn't mean Paul wasn't going to save Rudues if it kills him either. Paul wasn't putting more priority on his wife over his son he just wanted Rudues to be as determined as he was to save Zenith
I would like to add on the hitogami thing saying rudeus will regret going, He was initially implying that roxy would be dead. He had not taken into account the book that nanhoshi had. So by Rudeus going, he essentially achieved the best outcome and roxy ultimately survived. Who knows what would have happened to Paul cause he might have never recovered from the state he was in before rudeus arrived. Happy fathers day everyone and go eff yourself BIND.
6:36 That's why during the whole Paul vs Rudy debate in episode 16 of season 1, I was on Paul's side. I know that technically Rudy is right, even in this situation, yes you need to stay calm. But as someone who's really worried about Zenith, it's hard not to feel something negative about Rudy's seemingly lack of sense of urgency, and he just admitted that in this episode, he's just not that emotionally attached to Zenith. I've been saying that since S1 episode 16. Edit: I also wonder if Rudy is more emotional - therefore, has more sense of urgency, would he have fucked up right at the end? Like he seemed to relax there at the end, and it ended up messing up their rhythm and Paul had to save him twice. I'm in favor of being calm of course, but it's also good to have balance between being calm and being emotional. Rudy himself admitted that maybe he was being too calm.
Rudy is an unreliable narrator though. Rudy tries to downplay his feelings for his mother but quite literally at the end of Season 1 the only reason he got back on his feat was his feelings for her
@@sirmcdust5572 "the only reason he got back on his feat was his feelings for her" this is wrong, Rudeus just found an excuse to move on, he didn't care about Zenith at that moment, nor was he really thinking about her when doing his mission of trying to find her in the northen territories, all of that was a distraction for him. But it is true that Rudy is an unreliable narrator and this is something we get from other characters POV, like when Rudeus intervened to save Lilia, in his mind he was just paying back a favor but Zenith noticed that Rudeus was terrified of losing his family. Rudeus cares more than he thinks but cares less than what he normally should, and this is probably because his detachment from his previous family
Worst day/week of Rudeus in this world. Having your dad die from saving you, saving your mom but unfortunately she wokes up in a vegetable state losing the ability to speak. Sure he doesn't have that much of an emotional attachment to his parents in this world (except Paul I guess, because he's definitely a great father to him) but its still his parents regardless. And anyone in that situation will get hit like mf truck of emotions and depression if that happens to anyone's parent. Well, time for another depression arc for Rudeus this time.
22:05 Damn Jow. Same. I feel the greatest sorrow for those who live with the loss. The dead don't give a shite. Funerals are for the lving, like they say.
Everyone was expecting Paul to die, but they weren't ready for Pa/ul. 2:10 yes watch the OP. The hydra was the last major spoiler. Also, I really fucking love the music choice during the fight. It's not heroic or adventurous, it's very ominous the whole time.

There is a back story to why Paul say save your mother even if it kills you. And it has to do smtg with his own mother who died of an illness.
as a berserk fan the mc losing his left arm and the woman he rescued having her brain revert to that of a child made this hit so much more
The impact of death will be long-lasting. Rudy will often remember his father
I love how their voices were silent when they returned to meet back up with Lilia and Paul’s team. It really symbolized how Rudy was just tuning everything out in his state of shock.
This show deserves more attention😢
Happy Father's Day
Nah Paul was being 100% honest when he said that to Rudy. Ton of emphasis on it in the LN (Vol 12 I believe)
I'm simply destroyed, empty... That dream where the family was reunited will never be possible. Paul, I'm going to miss you so much.
😭😭😭😭
5:25 I’ve played games that do that. Once you get close to a specific fight or you get into it, there’s no running. If you can’t figure it out, you just gotta take that L. That would be scary to experience in real life.
They really gave Zenith the Casca treatment
8:20 the reason why he didn't mention Rudy is because he just got there while the rest of em has been helping Paul since the Mass Teleportation Incident
Imo today was the best moment to watch the OP, watching it the next episode will be a unique experience.
And next week will be the best day to watch the ending song
I just watch the episode and just mann. this episode is the kind that make me fokus on the story and the moment that i forget to relise how well animated it is
In the start of the season Rudy named his arms Hulk and Hercules. His left arm was named Hercules...
Rudy named his hands "Hercules" and "Hulk" Left and Right respectively way early on. In the myth, Hercules dies to the hydra from the poison and Rudy lost his his left hand.
You know the episode f*cked him up so much that the "next episode" hymn didn't make his face change even the slightest.
What a father's day episode. Some really do give it all for their family....
They actually did this on a Father’s Day knowing that it’ll line up on their time slot. Probably the main reason they picked up this time slot to begin with is to air this episode on Father’s Day.
Light novel: Final words Paul: I am so glad it was me, not you Rudy.
😭😭😭
Stop the cap. Even in the LN Paul did the same thing that was shown in the anime.
@@Hehexd944 Its on the vol 12 special cd. you can search it on youtube, it has his pov.
@@Hehexd944 How does my comment even remotely come close to claiming it was different? All i said was paul's thoughts as he was about to die
@Hehexd944 The drama CD shows paul's pov and those are his final thoughts.
It's all foreshadowing
This story starts here.
The fact it aired on Fathers day of all things it hurt me now! I'M NOT READY FOR THE FINALE YET MY GOD I LOVE THIS SHOW!
Paul Eyes before death like he want to say"You are Safe Son"
The way they portrayed how stressful and fast-paced a fight on a dungeon was splendid! Cheffkiss!👌 most isekai fails to do this most of the time, and I'm glad Mushoku Tensei is showing what tackling a dungeon really looks like❤
13:27 lmao i love the 5head joke
Paul dying wasn't even no anime shyt, he got instant killed with no build up
No slow-mo dramatic sequence, no prolonged "I'm dying" speech, no flash backs. Just dead. IMO this hit way harder.
No build up? The OP showed it and for weeks they've been telling you he was going to die.
16:57 I love how the cat looked at fresh like : Are you ok ?
Father, rest in peace😭
It's been a couple of hours and all my energy is drained from the depression
Bro, I feel this
When Hitogami said to Rudeus....You will regret it.... Now I know what he meant....💔💔💔💔
I dont trust that guy even though what he said is kinda true, he gives me weird feelings like he's hiding something from Rudeus
Huh? He'll even regret it if he listened to hitogami. This is the best possible choice he made and the effect will be seen in the future.
He would've regretted it more... Trust me.
Some context for cut character from the previous episodes,
back when rudeus was traveling whit elinazine they were suppose to encounter a merchant.
I mean its an anti-magic dragon, its not really a fair comparison.
@@calibursatsujin3112 didnt he literally split him in half? Lmao
14:41 Good thing they didn’t have to face a full blast from this thing. That likely would’ve been a full party wipe.
Rudeus stopped Paul from placing a death flag but failed to realize he had already planted thousands ahead of time
My dude is like "Paul was ready to death flag himself" as if they hadn't been flagging his death for weeks.
What a rollercoaster of emotions
Bro, Rudy thinking he doesn't think of Zenith as a mom is 100% Copium.
He went in tryna bring back his family now he lost both his parents I was literally yelling when Paul died
12:48 Honestly, after this, I gotta go back and play some more Granblue Fantasy: Relink. It’s a must at this point.
Ah, the episode we all thought we could handle
I mean, Paul's been death flagging the entire time over these episodes.
They always do this on Father's day
21:40 if I had a penny for every studio(that I know of) that kills a parent on mother's/father's day, I'd have 2, which isn't a lot but it's weird it happened twice.
Haven't felt like this watching anime in a long fucking time.
That fire attack and water defense collision should have cause a stream hot enough to burn the party.
Btw, you guys can tell him on live stream that he can already watch the OP. Everything was already blown so yeah OP is safe to watch.
Or is it solely due to dragin's bite?
i cried my eyes out, already called my father in the morning, called him back telling him again how much i love him and how awesome he is as a father, he was worried as hell jajaja sorry old man
Why? Why when Paul died and I paired it with JJK's song "You're My Special" did it match? no way bro
Elinalize foreshadowing her own story ooof just remembering how tragic her first love story is 😢
Cor those who loves their Dad so fucking much...this was truly tragic, heartbreaking, devastating...etc...😢 💔
Happy father Day....
17:44 "I'm going to feel so bad for Zenith when she finds out"
Author: But wait there more!
Before that, he just thinking him as 'Paul' instead of 'Father,' considering that, in terms of psychological age, Paul is even younger than him.
yep paul literally raised his death flag full mast after that party speech.
The following is Paul's last words in the radio play:
『Everyone has an expression that looks like they've seen it before』
『An expression that looks like someone is dead』
『Ah... So that's how it is』
『It's me...』
『The moment the last head approached Rudy』
『I kicked Rudy away』
『Then the nine-headed dragon's head fell down and my lower body was instantly gnawed off by the nine-headed dragon』
『This fatal injury can't be cured by healing magic』
『It was pitch black』
『I couldn't breathe』
『I couldn't speak』
『Am I going to die』
『At least I really hope I can confirm whether Zenith is still alive』
『Not only that』
『I really want to see Norn and Aisha again』
『They should still be in school at this time』
『I wonder if they've grown up well』
『What will Lilia's expression be like when she sees me』
『Even though I've been causing trouble for her all this time』
『Will she cry for me too?』
『Damn, all these things make people nostalgic』
『I don't want to die..』
『There are still a lot of things I want to do...』
『But Let's just forget it'
'It's much better than Rudy dying'
'Take care...Rudy
Paul told Rudues to save Zenith even if it kills him, but it didn't mean Paul wasn't going to save Rudues if it kills him either. Paul wasn't putting more priority on his wife over his son he just wanted Rudues to be as determined as he was to save Zenith
What Paul meant to Rudy is that he wants him to put his life on the line to save his mom, don't half ass it, do it like your life depended on it.
19:06 YES! Tears on camera, MT broke him.
Elinalise is tank magic right?
18:01 HOLY jumpscape
Rudy tries to downplay his feelings for his mother but quite literally at the end of Season 1 the only reason he got back on his feat was his feelings for her
@@sirmcdust5572 That and his reaction to her being brain dead this episode
I mean yeah, Paul is right about that, but he is absolutely wrong about EVERYTHING else
The name he wore on his left arm was Hercules.
Get Shank'd, Gojo'd and Casca'd, Truly peak slice of life.
Everyone was expecting Paul to die, but they weren't ready for Pa/ul.
2:10 yes watch the OP. The hydra was the last major spoiler.
Also, I really fucking love the music choice during the fight. It's not heroic or adventurous, it's very ominous the whole time.
