He is one of only three recording artists, along with Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson, who have sold over 100 million records both as solo artists and separately as principal members of a band. Legend only kinda fits.

Not bad for a drummer who sings? He's been playing the drums since he was 5 years old. Only wanted to drum. Known to be one of the top five drummers ever. But when his band Genesis lost their singer ...they couldn't find one that fit in. So Phil Collins gave it a shot and the rest is history my friend

English musician Phil Collins has released 8 studio albums, 1 live album, 4 compilation albums, 50 singles, 16 video albums, 41 music videos, 2 soundtrack albums, 3 box sets, and 2 remix albums. A Grammy and Academy Award-winning solo artist, Collins has sold more than 34.5 million albums in the United States, and 150 million records worldwide. Philip David Charles Collins LVO (born 30 January 1951) is an English drummer, singer, songwriter, record producer and actor. He was the drummer and lead singer of the rock band Genesis and also has a career as a solo performer. Between 1982 and 1990, Collins scored three UK and seven US number-one singles as a solo artist. When his work with Genesis, his work with other artists, as well as his solo career is totalled, he had more US top 40 singles than any other artist during the 1980s.[8] His most successful singles from the period include "In the Air Tonight", "Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)", "One More Night", and "Another Day in Paradise". Peace out.

The meaning behind this song always pulls at my heart.
Phil witnessed a guy that could’ve saved another guy from drowning but didn’t.
Then years later Phil recognised this guys face at one of his shows.
Then wrote this song about it.
    Em mentions it in Stan.
“You know the song by Phil Collins, "In the Air of the Night"
About that guy who could have saved that other guy from drowning
But didn't, then Phil saw it all, then at a show he found him?
That's kinda how this is, you coulda rescued me from drowning”
You actually started singing another one of his hits at the start - Against All Odds .
He and him with the band Genesis have sooo many great songs. You should take a listen.

Nick- this song was used in an epic manner in the pilot episode of Miami Vice as they drove along the city coastline at night.
“ Santa” is Lee Sklar who’s played on over 2000 albums with hundreds of artists.
“ Leland Bruce Sklar (born May 28, 1947) is an American bassist and session musician. He was a member of the Los Angeles-based instrumental group The Section, who served as the de facto house band of Asylum Records and were one of the progenitors of the soft rock sound prevalent on top-40 radio in the 1970s and 1980s.”

At the 5min mark you say "this is a fire look, come'on sing..." because he has you hooked.
You caught it too. That man is on stage and has 82,000 people in the palm of his hand.
    .
    .
    .
& This is my message to todays singers & bands. No fire, no smoke, no flashing lights, no 3 min screaming guitar solos, no dancers, no back up singers, no big stage special effects, no fancy outfits. It's all black top to bottom. Good lord, he doesn't even sway to his own music, he just calmly walks across the stage. The only thing holding those 82,000 people's attention is his voice. That my friends, is a singer.
If you think you need those other things, for you or your band to be successful, you are incorrect.
& This man, is proof of that.

There's 3 drum sets on that stage for a reason. First is Chester Thompson's set. You see moments of him playing while Phil is out front singing. He right under Phil in this song playing identical lines when Phil sits down on the second set. The third set is across from Chester down below. Phil's actual set. To seriously understand Phil's actual talent, search Phil Collins drum dual from this same show, it's incredible.
When Phil Collins played drums for Genesis, in 1975 their singer Peter Gabriel left the band to pursue a solo career. The record company wanted them to hire another singer but the band decided Phil would take over lead vocals. The record exec. said to Phil, "This will never work, you don't have the face to front a band." In 1978 the band took a hiatus because Phil went home trying to save his failing marriage, which didn't happen. That is what this song is all about. After full filling other contract obligations Phil recorded his first solo album on a new label to distance himself from the executives mentioned. A final jab at those exec's was the title of the album 'Face Value' with a close up picture of his face on the cover. And this song as the first track about his ex-wife.

Phil Collins is one of the biggest names in the industry....not just as a vocalist but as a world class drummer. The singer of "Open Arms" one of the biggest power ballad of the 80's was Steve Perry, original frontman for a little band (lmao) named Journey. You may have been thinking of the song Phil Collins sang for the 80's movie "White Nights" called "Separate Lives". A bit of trivia, that movie was made at the height of the cold war between the United States and Russia. The plot is about a Caucasian dancer who is Russian wanting to defect to the United States (played by world famous dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov) and an African American dancer wanting to defect from the United States to Russia (played by another famous dancer, Gregory Hines). Just had to put that out there....

Phil Collins was the drummer for Genesis. Peter Gabriel, the lead singer of Genesis left to strike out on his own as a solo artist and Phil took over as drummer and singer. Very hard to do as the drummer maintains the beat of the song and he also has to sing. Watch Don Henley of the Eagles. He's the drummer and singer. Hotel California is wonderful to watch.

Phil is primarily a drummer and songwriter but he can sing up a storm too! He was in a famous band called Genesis in the 70s, and had a string of solo hits in the 80s. Just look them up on Wikipedia! My favourite is Do You Remember? It's a ballad but the lyrics cut you like galss.

This was my favourite of favourite songs for 30+ years. Then I saw Mike Posner do I took a Pill in Ibiza’s live version at London Summertime Ball and Phil’s been relegated to second

Phill is an amazing musician and singer. It's rumoured that he wrote this song about coming home one day to find his wife in bed asleep with another man, although they did not see him, he walked out, divorced her and wrote this song. He was asked about it in an interview and denied it but imagine being that ex wife and guy having the most recognised song written about you. 🤣.
Phill has another awesome song with one of my favourite drummers Chester Thompson, th-cam.com/video/dhwjcg6TeO0/w-d-xo.html
It showcase Chester on the drums 🥁 a must see 👀
Lots of love from the Garnar's 🎵❤️
