GREATNESS!!! Best drum drop EVER! One of the best Live performances! Phil is the GOAT!!!
💙🔥🙏
Best drum drop ever? Maybe , maybe not - I would go with Fly on a Windshield, Drummer Phil Collins.
One of the only people who could hold the attention of 80000 people with his voice
🔥🔥🔥
I think Freddie Mercury could too
One of the greatest drummer/lead singer ever!!!
🔥🔥🔥
I miss him already! Phil is has the best voice in 80s rock.
"If you told me you were drowning, I would Not have lent a hand", Phil explained the meaning years later in an interview. He wrote it at an emotional time, he and his wife were divorcing, and he discovered who else was 'involved'.
🔥🙏🔥
Thank you! I was gonna say!!!
I sing that line every time I see Hillary Clinton
😂😂yes he's very polite, right? I'm more of the mind of "if you were on fire I wouldn't pi$$ on you". But samsies
@@chroniclesofbennerman1164I sing it every time I see Donald Trump and then I puke. President Biden 4 more years. Trump for prison 😈
Phil Collins is an icon, and this song is iconic. Singing and playing the drums at the same time is extremely difficult and he does it with ease. Love your reaction!
🙏🙏💙💙thanks for the support
This man helped create the soundscape of the 80s.
Amazing
You would hear new song by different groups on the radio and that signature "bark" of that concert tom drum kit and it was like, "Hey, Phil's on this." He took Genesis to its commercial peak and did pretty darned well as a solo act. Pretty good for a drummer who can sing! He was a spectacular front man.
This is a fine example of how good Phil is. This still gives me chills ! xx
A classic 80's song. You can't grow up in the 80's without knowing this song. Besides great live version
🙏🙏🔥🔥
Best live performance EVER.
Period!!!
An electric performance! I still get chills watching this.
🙏🙏🔥🔥
Hey! Quick note - in the beginning he said he “wouldn’t” lend a hand. Phil is one of the most iconic drummers ever! And such a unique voice! Gives me chills on ALL of his songs! He’s got a gigantic catalog of music and I promise u won’t be disappointed by ANY of his tunes. This performance right here has got to be one of, if not THE best one of all time! And btw this song is about his divorce from his first wife. Can’t beat a pissed off Phil! He’ll write a song about u and drag your ass all the world! (Should check out AC/DC live at River Plate doing their song called Thunderstruck - THAT one is another one of the coolest performances)! I absolutely adore Phil Collins and I think u will too once u dive into his music. And of course AC/DC is a fav too! Let’s not forget Ozzy Osbourne, cuz THAT man is right up there with Phil with the unique and unforgettable voice! Go ahead - check them all out! U won’t be sorry.
I saw him do this live in Manchester U.K. , also have seen the genius that is Genesis . The man is a Legend
Love it. Phil was one of the greatest drummers of all time. This song was iconic in my youth. This song opened my eyes to cheating women. Thanks for this!
🙏🙏🔥🔥
I'm familiar with this song but had never seen this video before. When he walks to the top platform of the stage and they lit the drums I knew exactly what was gonna happen. That's my favorite part of the song.
🙏🙏🔥🔥
They didn’t just light up the drums. They came up out of the floor right as he got there. If you look as he is going up the steps and turns the corner there is still no drum set. That is one of the things that is so iconic about the performance and how he times his stroll up the stairs and to the drum set.
Phil Collins is a legend!
I remember when this first came out!! We played it all the time.
🙏🙏🙏
Boom baby...Phil has the best voice ❤...every time I hear it, it moves me deeply. Great reaction!
Couldn't agree more!
@@StaxReacts You are amazed that he plays the Drums too ! It would have been more correct in saying when it started, " He sings too?" . He was the drummer and later became the lead singer of the rock band Genesis.
A gifted drummer who happens to have a brilliant singing voice.
No he sings too, plays the drums 1st !!!
So glad you liked this, loved your reaction. .
Please watch another day in paridise. Ty keep having fun !
That's a good song.
Great reaction!
Phil is saying if this person were drowning he would not lend a hand. He wrote this about his divorce and infidelity.
This popped up on my home screen and i clicked so fast
🙏🙏😂🔥
I am a 55 year old woman and still react like you do to this song, while playing air drums every single time, even when driving! Phil Collins is amazing!
Goosebumps!!
Right!!!
All the time he was walking around the stage there were no drums on that rear catwalk, until he got about ten feet away... They came up through the floor. Perfect timing for that iconic drum drop.
Great performances also - not only from the other musicians on set, but the sound and lighting crew. Everyone came together to give a performance second to none.
Thanks for posting.
🙏🙏🙏🤙🏾
Love seeing the joy in your face as you listen. Phil Collins was the drummer and later lead singer of the band Genesis after Peter Gabriel departed on a solo career. Genesis was full of great talent, notabbly Peter Gabriel, Collins, Mike Rutherford (Mike and the Mechanics which had some great hit songs) and Tony Banks
💙💙💙
Perfect performance....
💙💙💙
"if you told me you were drowning, I would not lend a hand" is what he said
Phil is such an awesome performer. Love this video. I still have his vinyl record albums in my collection. Phil, take care. I know your health is not the greatest. We love you!!!! ❤️ ❤❤
💙💙
Listen just a tad closer ..
🎶Well, If you told me you were drowning ..
I WOULD NOT lend a hand ..
I've seen your face before, my friend,
but I don't know if you know who I am ..
Well, I was there and I saw what you did,
I saw it with my own two eyes
So you can wipe off that grin
I know where you've been
Its all been a pack of lies ..🎶
Its been noted that Phil wrote the lyrics at a time in his own life as he was going thru a divorce back in 1979 or 1980.
BTW .. Yes. Phil started his career as the drummer, and then eventually, lead vocals/drummer for the British rock group #GENESIS in the early seventies. He went on to having a solo career in 1980 or '81 and debuted with the album #FACE VALUE that included this hit #IN THE AIR TONIGHT.
All-in-all .. a very good reaction.
His music was played so much back in the day. Genesis or Phil Collins.
💙
Phil was the drummer in a band named Genesis with the lead singer Peter Gabriel. Peter left to start a solo career and Phil stepped up to the plate as lead singer/drummer. You should check out the song "Mama", one of the songs from Genesis that Phil sang..
Will do
Phil Collins used to be in a band called Genesis, he played the drums. Little trivia, Randy Jackson used to play for base for a bit for Genesis. I grew up in the late 70’s and 80’s. Love most tropes of music but Rock will never die. PEACE !!!
listen to it again , my friend- he said" I WOULD NOT lend a hand"
Ahhhh bad quality headphones smh
Phil is well known for his drumming 😊
🤙🏾💯
“He play the drums, too?!?!”
😂😂😂😂😂
No. He IS one of best drummers on the planet. He just happens to be a singer, too!
Lmaoooo
No. He said if you told me you were drowning I WOULD NOT lend a hand.
He also played this song on July 13, 1985 at Wembley Stadium in London, at the "Live Aid Concert"
A few hours later he sang "Against All Odds" in Phildelphia, USA
The Live Live Aid Concert was seen by over 1.5 billion people worldwide.
Including me.
🔥💙
Phil is a 'Prog Rock' God having played with Genesis from the early 70s. You gotta check out his live Genesis dual drumming with Chester Thompson. Checkout the live Rome open air gig in 2007 in front of half a million people it is insane. It is amazing you have never heard of Phil before along with Genesis he has sold over 300 million albums! yes 300 million! He took over from another legend Peter Gabriel as lead singer in 1975. Again checkout the live old Genesis medley of In The Cage/Cinema Show/ Dukes Travels/Afterglow it is off the charts!
He started off playing drums for the band Genesis. Peter Gabriel was the lead singer. He opted out singing so the brilliant continued playing the drums there as well as singing, just incredible!! Later on Phil Collings had his own band which ofcourse really seansational!!!!
Oh wow gave me goosebumps. Great reaction Stax 💯
Thank you my guy💙
Phil was drummer in a wonderful band genisis and what a singer.
🔥🔥🔥
Philip Baily and Phil Collins(Earth Wind and Fire), Easy Lover, is an amazing duet.
This is by far one of my favorite songs and your reaction was so phenomenal I keep on watching it. Great job!! I'm a Grandma and can I say that I'm proud of you? Keep on keeping on.
Thank you so much!!
Best reaction I have seen to this song. Great Job Stax!
💙💙💙🙏
It really is the best reaction to this video. 💙
First time hearing this song was in the fall of 1984, on the show, "Miami Vice" - been fan ever since of Phil Collins.
🙏🙏🙏
When you get a chance, check out the scene this premiered on Miami Vice, absolutely ice cold.
He started as a drummer/singer in the band Genesis with Peter Gabriel. They both have had good solo careers after the split.
This song he wrote when he was in the devours.....
You can find the whole concert with all his goodies where this song is from here on TH-cam, it's really amazing...
Phil Collins - Finally...The First Farewell Tour Paris 2004
🙏🙏🙏
Great reaction! Gotta do more Phil Collins please🙏🏻😊 Here's some songs to get you started 😊 Sussudio, Do you remember, Easy lover, I wish it would rain down, In too deep, Against all odds, Something happened on the way to heaven, Take me home, Another day in paradise, One more night, Two hearts, You'll be in my heart, Groovy kind of love, I can't dance, Mama & sooo many more😊
Cool, thanks!
A lot of folks don't seem to realize that his own drummer, Chester Thompson, is playing on this also. So when they drop the beat down, there's two drummers.
🔥🔥🔥🤘🏽
Beautiful song
💙💙💙
Gotta put on that jacket because it's a cold world, and Phil was about to make it even colder. Classic song that was universally appreciated. Dope as always STAX!💯
🙏🙏🔥🔥
Phil started as the drummer for Genesis before moving to singer.
I LOVE this song. I first heard it as a background vocal to an episode of Miami Vice, the original one with Don Johnson, and I will never hear it without hearing "Retribution." Crockett and Tubbs were on their way to take down a drug kingpin at great personal cost, but they did it anyway. I understand that Phil wrote that song when he was going through an acrimonious divorce, but I still think this song is about a darker subject than that.
It’s such an amazing song
That drum drop is iconic. The song is not directly about anything but Eminem calls it out on Stan "You know the song by Phil Collins "In the Air Tonight" About that guy who could've saved that other guy from drowning But didn't, then Phil saw it all, then at a show he found him?" Thats the common myth. Also if you haven't heard Stan, bro...WTF you doing with your life lol.
🙏🙏🔥🔥
Phil Collins was originally the drummer for Genisis but when Peter Gabriel left he steped up as the lead singer in the band.
🙏🙏🙏
Found your channel by accident. Enjoyed your reaction just as much as I enjoyed Phil Collin’s great performance. New subscribers😊
Thank you so much
Before he had a solo career he was there drummer for the rock band GENISIS. When Peter Gabriel left the band Phil took over as lead singer.
🔥🔥🔥
Watching you react to this made me subscribe! Great reaction, you really did feel it✌️💞
Thanks for subbing!
Me too!!! 💙💙
Bruva… I was half the suggestions way back when you was just doing drill.. agb ! lol so happy you branched out. This song is absolutely amazing, I remember hearing this at 8 years old and it gets better every time… this performance definitely 💯 did the song justice. If your interested 2pac used the backing beat in’staring at thru my rearview’ absolute classic! But also, jump back on some uk drill at some point man, we miss you , I know it’s dead right now but there’s still so many classics you ain’t heard yet! Great reaction!
💙💙💙
@@StaxReacts my guy
Truly beautiful reaction ❤, love to watch people of your generation reacting to stuff probably older than yourselves and being so respectful. Thanks again, take care, Tony here in the UK 🇬🇧
Thank you 💙💙
Tony, you are an example of what it means to be a good human being 💙
Chills every time
Phil is in my top 5 of drummers who influenced me. He sadly hasn't been able to even hold a pair of drumsticks in many years. You can see him at his best as both front-man and drummer in live Genesis videos of Cinema Show (with medleys). There are some good drum duets of Phil with Chester Thompson on TH-cam also.
🔥🔥🔥
You should really see when Phil Collins sings and plays the drums at the same time he used to be the singer for Genesis
🤘🏽🤘🏽🙏🙏
BOOM! one of my all time favorite songs/artists...I saw this same show live in Florida on his First Final Farewell Tour years and years ago...the entire show is FIRE you need to watch more (or the entire concert)...the drum battle at the beginning and all the songs as well...his voice in person is as PERFECT live as it is on the studio tracks...and he can play many instruments...he ran around the stage, danced, sang and didnt skip a beat...sounded perfect (no sync for the old school performers like that)...love seeing this brother...i wouldnt expect anything less from my fav reactor (esp with all the Beastie Boys love)
🔥🔥🙏
great reaction little brother
I appreciate it
Great reaction!! ❤
Thank you!! 😁
That is the best reaction on your channel❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you shadow💙💙
Thanks, guys. Love this history!
💙💙🙏🙏
I believe you misunderstood the first verse. He was saying that if the person he was talking to was drowning, he would not lend a hand because he knew the person was a bad person.
Ahhh gotcha
Certified Classic Artist from a Classic group this is a banger it’s sad what Phil Collins has become today all our heroes are fading away he can barely play anymore 😢
💙💙💙
I had to subscribe. What an excellent reaction!!
Awesome! Thank you!
@@StaxReacts No,thank you!! 💙💙
Good job STAXHas anyone noticed how in his solo,at the near end, he sings the letter i from the word “life” 24 times…?
8 measures of 4/4 timing.. am I the only nerd who tries to figure out the timing?😂😂😂!!
Thank you 💙💙💙
🔥
🤘🏽
Listen
I have to say you’re my favorite reactor right now! Hey I would love to see you react to MC Lyte Keep On Keepin On and Ruffneck
Wow that made my day, thank you so much🙏🙏🤙🏾💙
We can see a classic scene with this song, on the first episode of TV show "Miami Vice" (in 1984)
🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
I had an argument with my Daughter and I came straight here because your reaction makes me smile every time. Thank you
Wowww thank you so much 💙
@@StaxReacts I've decided not to have children, the children are taking it pretty hard. 😁
Did you notice that the drums rise up out of the stage? 😎
Yessss
You were awesome as Erkle bruthaman
💙💙💙
Fantastic reaction Stax 🔥 to a fantastic song and video 🔥🔥🔥
🤘🏽💙
He's amazing in Genesis. I love 'Jesus He Knows Me.'
I saw Genesis live in the 70's. $4.95 a ticket. 😊
@@looneygardener So jealous. I would've loved to have seen Queen too. I did see Meat Loaf, he put on an extra day and because we just missed out we were front for the next lot of tickets. We were second row right in the centre. Best tickets.
@@wereleopard58yepihavetwo2 In 73 I gave some guy a haircut at someone's house, and he gave me a Bowie ticket! Saw Diamond Dogs tour in Ottawa Canada. Live music is worth every penny.
Considered one of the best drummers
🙏🙏🙏
Opening song for the old school, Miami Vice tv show back in the 80's. ❤
💙💙🤘🏽🤘🏽
The Theme From Miami Vice by Jan Hammer
@@chuckhouse5179 I stand corrected. Thanks.
I'm 37 and I don't believe people have never heard of it as a movie and radio songs for years
🙏🙏
Yet obviously many people have not. 🤔
Phil Collins was the drummer for Genesis until Peter Gabriel went solo, and then he took up playing the drums and singing until he went solo. Not many people can do both. Phil and Don Henley from the eagles are the best
Ahhh gotcha
Next Phil Collins: another day in paradise 🙂
🙏🙏🙏
As smooth as Crockett and Tubbs prowling Miami in a Ferrari
🤘🏽🤘🏽💯
You don't get that in today's music....epic...
🙏🙏
Legend Leland Skar in the House !!!!!
🙏🙏🔥🔥
He’s playing the drums too? Ehm… YEAH 🎉🎉🎉
🙏🙏🔥🔥
You need to check out the track he did with Bone Thugz & Harmony.
🙏🙏🙏
Glad you check Phil out. He has some great hits. Your reactions are as good as the video. 😅 Like your new do. Prefer seeing your face 😊
🙏🙏🙏
He said, if you were drowning I would NOT lend a hand
Ahhh gotcha, my headphones audio isn’t the best I apologize
He said he would not lend a hand, if you were drowning
He says ' I would NOT lend a hand.
Yes well aware now
Stax glad to see your doing good with my work and just everything going on I haven’t had a chance to checkout any of your recent videos. There’s this band The Lemon Twigs that just came out with their new album A Dream Is All I Know. It’s a straight throwback to the 60s and 70s hippie culture music that will just put you in such a good mood. I seriously recommend you listen to My Golden Years or They Don’t Know How To Fall In Place. With all of the old school music you’ve been diving into these guys bringing back those sounds to a modern audience would be perfect. I’ll send you a review of their new album on twitter so you get a better description of what they are like. I’m not smart enough to tell you exactly what makes them special but they are.
Bet John, appreciate it gang
LOL He's telling this person that he WOULD NOT lend a hand if he was drowning. Actually this is said to be a song sang to the man his wife cheated with! This is a great performance!
Ahhhh gotcha sorry my headphone audio isn’t the best, working on getting new ones
Phil Collins said that is absolutely not the truth. He said that he jotted it down on a napkin in about 5 minutes because of the grief he was suffering from after his divorce from his first Wife. He told David Letterman that story has been told so many times that it has become like an Urban legend. He said that it had nothing to do with his Wife cheating on him and it definitely wasn't written to the man who she cheated with because as far as he knew, she never did. Repeating Gossip ruins lives
Old Guys are so DIVERSE ...🇦🇺
Factsss
I’m just a drummer who can sing a bit .
Phil Collin’s
