    These have been great, giving me ideas to run solo play for myself and they parley that into adventures for my group.

    Really enjoy these videos. The process explanation is good too. Helps me understand the method to the madness. The cliff hanger.

    I find this both intersting and very strange, as I can't imagine a non-solo session being mostly "Day One nothing happens. Day Two nothing happens" and so on until the party actually gets to the dungeon where the "real" adventure is. Seems like that would get incredibly boring incredibly fast, especially when the random monster charts are mostly higher level monsters or like "A group of 100 orcs" so it's not like you can fight them anyway with a D&D party. I really wonder what the 'intent' behind this was as it seems so weird for how you think D&D works.
    This feels more like Oregon Trail: The RPG than D&D lol

      With a group of players, there would be narration that goes along with the travel, and 100 orcs could be something you hide from (think Lord of the Rings) or investigate to find what they are doing for further narrative. I’m playing it more with the raw procedures as that’s what I enjoy for solo play. My in person group has found some very interesting locations and powerful magic items after investing a “wandering” monster. You are not wrong to think it feels different with a group of players at a live table vs solo.

    this is very interesting! Solo play is fascinating to me. Had reaction rolls not been invented yet in OD&D? I'd imagine they can go a long way in this sort of "procedures only" gameplay.

    • @BanditsKeepActualPlay
      @BanditsKeepActualPlay  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes! Reaction rolls are part of OD&D. Just like in BX you roll them when you don’t k is how something will react. There’s actually 2 tables, one for NPCS and one for Monsters.

    Following along with OSE. I am wondering for encounters in the wild do you consider "monster reactions" if there is no surprise/evasion. (for example, are these lycanthropes in human form and able to be reasoned with? what about the brigands?). Also, for foraging, I see a rule (again OSE) where each day you have a 1/6 chance to find 1d6 rations, or the option to hunt (instead of moving) with a 1/6 chance to find game. Is your thinking that foraging/hunting would make rations trivial with the additional "food" hexes from outdoor survival?

    • @BanditsKeepActualPlay
      @BanditsKeepActualPlay  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They could interact- and reactions would be considered - but I find the risk likely not worth the reward unless that creature is known to be Lawful - like a gold dragon. There are not hunting / foraging rules in OD&D - so I’m using my own system - the BX one (which OSE is a copy of) could also work though.

    Maybe Scarlet Heroes works really good with the Maper “mini game”

    • @BanditsKeepActualPlay
      @BanditsKeepActualPlay  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure it would add anything- though I do like that system- the mapper is not about combat.

      @@BanditsKeepActualPlay yes i understood that part. I talked about Scarlet Heroes becouse you play with single PC and ould save time creating a multiple party.
      The story goes like this.
      All the guilds on the land send cartographers to map the unexplored regions, then that cartographers put the maps on the guild for the guild members buy and explore. xD

    Here I thought I was the only one who did solo play
    I mainly run it in 5e for myself because that's the system I'm most familiar with, and when I first started solo play I hadn't played anything else (that was several years ago when I first got into DMing, since then I've played a lot of Pathfinder 1e and a bit of B/X, and I've adopted a lot of rules, especially from B/X), but I'm really enjoying this playthrough of OD&D. I might have to look into getting OD&D, outdoor survival, and chainmail. I'm also really enjoying the methods and resources you use for generating treasure. Thank you for uploading this!

      That’s awesome. I have been playing solo on and off for a few years, but this is the first full blown multi-party type I’ve tried. I’m having a lot of fun with it.

    A bit curious about the results of the dice, so when checking if the Brigands were in their base or just travelling there was a 15% chance. You rolled 81 which was above 15% so they were just travelling. But later when you were rolling to evade the chance was 50% and you rolled 6 which is below 50% and you evaded them. It would be nice to know before you roll if you need to roll below or above the given percentage to get a good result or not.

    • @BanditsKeepActualPlay
      @BanditsKeepActualPlay  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It’s always roll below - 15% they are in lair means 81 they are not. 50% to evade rolled 6, I did.

    • @faxer999
      @faxer999 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@BanditsKeepActualPlay Ah I see, so the assumption is that when you ask if something happens, rolling below/equal the chance means it happens. Thanks!
