I honestly don’t even know how I fucked that up, I wasn’t even sleep deprived when I wrote that. That actually puts the theoretical damage at 138, which honestly just confuses me as it should one shot light classes if that’s the case, and apparently sometimes it does? This thing is horribly inconsistent so I hope you can forgive me for making these mistakes, I wrote it based on my experience more than the actual Wiki stats.
Yeah you'd make the caber the most hated weapon of every engie main, it's bad enough when a sticky jumping demo stumbles over one in setup on their way to spam into spawn
making it rechargable with ammo crates seems justified imo, though if it could do that maybe just make it unusable as a melee when not charged to compensate

Honestly you also should probably be able to surf your own explosion to some extent instead of just getting sent upwards so you could potentially use it as a risky escape option.

The general quality of the bots is decreasing making them straight up miss multiple shots in a row which is nice because now we can actually fight them without having to drop everything and go vac medic with a pocket

A cool, aesthetic thing they could do is that if they ever implement a recharge meter for the caber is that the Demoman replaces the original explosives with a pipe from whatever primary he has equipped and tape. No added benefits depending on the primary he has equipped, just something that could explain why the explosive melee is back.
That is an absolutely brilliant idea. The only question is what to do when you've got the booties equiped. I think a landmine would probably be fitting.

When i was new to tf2 i tried to taunt kill a demo crouching on degroot keep i kept pressing G more than 5 times and repositioned myself to hit him properly, I still do remember it.

Bison, sandman, fan-o-war, gas passer, darwin's danger shield, base jumper, gas passer, eviction notice, and the red tape recorder are some good examples of weapons that are just unusable garbage that aren't even funny imo.
I think the best idea is to make it deal 3x damage to sentries, because demo needs a way to deal with sentries, and buff it to deal 10x damage to yourself, and if that seems like a nerf you aren't looking at it the same way a caber user would. A caber user doesn't want to live after using their caber, thats all they have going for them.
If the caber simply recharged over time it would be a really good option. Not the most utility, but sometimes being able to deal massive melee damage could be amazing.

There are two things this weapon lacks, reason to use it, and consistency. Lets fix that. New stats: Explodes on first hit Recharges after 15 seconds Deals 50 self-damage on explosion (Slightly down from 52-56) -15% damage (Hidden passive from live) 20% slower firing speed (Same as live) This weapon deploys 50% slower (Down from 100%) Mini-crits instead of random critical hits (Instead of completely disabling random crits) While these are major buffs... it's still worse than stock bottle usually, but retains that powerful first hit and gets it back every 15s. Here's the break down: Base dmg is 130 on explosion/55 otherwise, vs 65 stock. And a minicrit on busted deals 74, far below stock crit 195. (-61.5 dmg less on average after first hit, based off 30% crit rate) A minicrit explosion would do slightly less damage than a regular crit on stock. (185 vs 195) This gives it the one niche that on average, the first hit deals an extra 65 dmg on non-crit but -10 on (mini)crit. (42.5 more dmg on first hit on average) The biggest perk of this weapon is the ability to 1-shot shield bash crit an over-healed heavy (which is currently in live, but requires going all the way back to spawn to get back) at the cost of 50 hp, a 15 second recharge, 20% slower attackspeed, and -62 less dmg avg subsequently, most notably not being able to 2-hit light classes w/o crit. Outside shield bash its 130 dmg hits can 1 shot light classes w/o crit, at the cost of 50 hp though, 15s recharge, 20% slower attackspeed, and not being able to 2-hit light classes w/o crit. So what do you think? Plenty of drawbacks, but its first hit packs a punch. Viable among knights and normal for two different reasons.
Caber is like Market Gardener. It won't make you top score and relies on crits to be effective but damn when you finally get that hit with it...fun and satisfying.
I would use splendid screen over other shields as it has a reduction in how long it takes for your charge to refill and it's still has crits so you'll have an easier time getting to spawn with it
I tried using it with Iron Bomber and Splendid Screen like you said, and it makes it actually usable. There's a shield to boost it with a mini-crit/crit, and a grenade launcher so you can actually deal ranged damage and grenade jump.

engineer gameing doesn't like demoman all that much due to them destroying his sentries but does enjoy seeing them try to run at sentries with the caber
3:37 a fun fact is that the Backscratcher has so much damage that it can 2 shot a medic and with a single crit you can 2 shot every class except for an overheal Heavy, an overheal Soldier with the Battalion's backup and a full Demoknight with 3 or more heads.
If the caber had an explosion that recharged over time (like the razorback) that one change would make it S tier, a crit caber one shots anything that isn’t bolted down or affected by stock uber (or overheated heavies) no exceptions.
These are the changes I’d give to the Caber: - When broken, it can recharge by hitting an enemy with it during an explosive jump (Sticky/grenade jumps, excluding ones caused by the caber itself). Guaranteed Crit on hit. - Can’t crit midair when recharged. Simple, but I think it’s a good idea to keep the changes it already had, and still make it fun! (Plus it’s a spiced-up market gardener for the Demo!)

Interesting idea for the caber, numbers can be changed for balancing purposes: - Make it so that if the caber has been switched out for roughly 5-10 seconds, the explosion will regenerate; switching to it will reset this timer - Every time the explosion is used, the regen time increases by 5 seconds; this is shortened when picking up ammo and reset if demo goes to the resupply locker, meaning that he will have to resupply at _some_ point, but that the point when he does it is up to him to make the judgement call Alternatively, you could just make it so that he has a few spare cabers on hand to use before needing to resupply, since that makes more sense in terms of rationalizing how he gets ahold of them.
Heres what i think needs to be done make the caber decent (befor exploading) 75% deploy speed 66% holdster speed 15% slower fireing speed (After exploading) 20% deploy speed 33% holdser speed -no slower fireing speed (Reobtaning the caber bomb) 1 medium/large ammo box 2 small ammo boxs -no regarge timer but there is a caber bar (basicly it like engis metal it doent recharge and its in the same spont on the hud) Buff the caber to one shot light classes (say 135 dmg like loose cannon db donk) Edit:and give it a taunt kill
Yeah definitely agree the caber needs to be fixed. Not even buffed, just fixed. Fix it so it reliably detonates, so the explosion propels you AWAY from it instead of just up, and fix the damage not adding up to 138 like it should. Then it'd be a perfectly fine weapon honestly. The explosion pushing you away would help with the escape thing too.
Is no one gonna bring up the fact that you can use the caber to jump off of walls/floors? It’s a pocket rocket jump without needing to use ammo, great for hybridnights who focus on grenades and demo tanks who don’t wanna waste a grenade or a trap to relocate to a higher position
I have used the caber for maybe 100+ hours in uncletopia servers. I use the caber the same way a spy uses their backstab; I will die, but not without taking out an important pick. Most times I dont die, and I usually just pick off lesser threats with the weaker caber until I die. I think the caber is fine in its current state, because if it was buffed, I think my playstyle would be too strong.

From my experience I can usually kill snipers or scouts in a shot if I can get to them
I’ve never one shotted a light class while knowing they have full health.

A cool, aesthetic thing they could do is that if they ever implement a recharge meter for the caber is that the Demoman replaces the original explosives with a pipe from whatever primary he has equipped and tape. No added benefits depending on the primary he has equipped, just something that could explain why the explosive melee is back.
That is an absolutely brilliant idea. The only question is what to do when you've got the booties equiped. I think a landmine would probably be fitting.

I think the best idea is to make it deal 3x damage to sentries, because demo needs a way to deal with sentries, and buff it to deal 10x damage to yourself, and if that seems like a nerf you aren't looking at it the same way a caber user would. A caber user doesn't want to live after using their caber, thats all they have going for them.

Buffed caber type to:
+30% blast radius (over rocket/grenade)
+replenish explosive from collecting ammo, like spy's watch.
+Deals more explosive damage when you're below
The amount of damage the Caber needs to be fun again is less than half the number of years it's been bad, and that's really sad.
There are two things this weapon lacks, reason to use it, and consistency. Lets fix that.
New stats:
Explodes on first hit
Recharges after 15 seconds
Deals 50 self-damage on explosion (Slightly down from 52-56)
-15% damage (Hidden passive from live)
20% slower firing speed (Same as live)
This weapon deploys 50% slower (Down from 100%)
Mini-crits instead of random critical hits (Instead of completely disabling random crits)
While these are major buffs... it's still worse than stock bottle usually, but retains that powerful first hit and gets it back every 15s.
Here's the break down:
Base dmg is 130 on explosion/55 otherwise, vs 65 stock.
And a minicrit on busted deals 74, far below stock crit 195. (-61.5 dmg less on average after first hit, based off 30% crit rate)
A minicrit explosion would do slightly less damage than a regular crit on stock. (185 vs 195)
This gives it the one niche that on average, the first hit deals an extra 65 dmg on non-crit but -10 on (mini)crit. (42.5 more dmg on first hit on average)
The biggest perk of this weapon is the ability to 1-shot shield bash crit an over-healed heavy (which is currently in live, but requires going all the way back to spawn to get back) at the cost of 50 hp, a 15 second recharge, 20% slower attackspeed, and -62 less dmg avg subsequently, most notably not being able to 2-hit light classes w/o crit.
Outside shield bash its 130 dmg hits can 1 shot light classes w/o crit, at the cost of 50 hp though, 15s recharge, 20% slower attackspeed, and not being able to 2-hit light classes w/o crit.
So what do you think? Plenty of drawbacks, but its first hit packs a punch. Viable among knights and normal for two different reasons.

I tried using it with Iron Bomber and Splendid Screen like you said, and it makes it actually usable. There's a shield to boost it with a mini-crit/crit, and a grenade launcher so you can actually deal ranged damage and grenade jump.
This video is probably the most impact any video has had in how I play a game, after I watched this, I started playing Caberknight as a joke and now Demoman is my most played class after I’ve tried many other play styles for Demoman

3:37 a fun fact is that the Backscratcher has so much damage that it can 2 shot a medic and with a single crit you can 2 shot every class except for an overheal Heavy, an overheal Soldier with the Battalion's backup and a full Demoknight with 3 or more heads.

If the caber had an explosion that recharged over time (like the razorback) that one change would make it S tier, a crit caber one shots anything that isn’t bolted down or affected by stock uber (or overheated heavies) no exceptions.
These are the changes I’d give to the Caber:
- When broken, it can recharge by hitting an enemy with it during an explosive jump (Sticky/grenade jumps, excluding ones caused by the caber itself). Guaranteed Crit on hit.
- Can’t crit midair when recharged.
Simple, but I think it’s a good idea to keep the changes it already had, and still make it fun! (Plus it’s a spiced-up market gardener for the Demo!)

Idfk how this thing works, I guess somehow it maybe does more damage if your target is literally point blank near you? Also I wasnt able to recreate my 215 damage shot, one or two times I managed to get 165 dmg(???) and mostly 135 damage, they totally did sumn to caber and it succ

Interesting idea for the caber, numbers can be changed for balancing purposes:
- Make it so that if the caber has been switched out for roughly 5-10 seconds, the explosion will regenerate; switching to it will reset this timer
- Every time the explosion is used, the regen time increases by 5 seconds; this is shortened when picking up ammo and reset if demo goes to the resupply locker, meaning that he will have to resupply at _some_ point, but that the point when he does it is up to him to make the judgement call
Alternatively, you could just make it so that he has a few spare cabers on hand to use before needing to resupply, since that makes more sense in terms of rationalizing how he gets ahold of them.

Yeah definitely agree the caber needs to be fixed. Not even buffed, just fixed.
Fix it so it reliably detonates, so the explosion propels you AWAY from it instead of just up, and fix the damage not adding up to 138 like it should. Then it'd be a perfectly fine weapon honestly. The explosion pushing you away would help with the escape thing too.
Is no one gonna bring up the fact that you can use the caber to jump off of walls/floors? It’s a pocket rocket jump without needing to use ammo, great for hybridnights who focus on grenades and demo tanks who don’t wanna waste a grenade or a trap to relocate to a higher position
I have used the caber for maybe 100+ hours in uncletopia servers. I use the caber the same way a spy uses their backstab; I will die, but not without taking out an important pick. Most times I dont die, and I usually just pick off lesser threats with the weaker caber until I die. I think the caber is fine in its current state, because if it was buffed, I think my playstyle would be too strong.
getting a caber critical hit is one of the best feelings in the entire game
and overhealed kuni spies also can't just run away which is always nice
