As a Marine who left the military in the mid 90s, I was welcomed home and thanked. Vietnam Vets were treated like crap. Spit on, called baby killers, abandoned by their government. Let this song remind you that even though the government says, thank you for your service, they don’t care about you. There are way too many homeless vets and veterans not receiving the medical attention they need. As the decades pass and veterans are promised help, it remains the same, no help from the government. To the Vietnam Vets who weren’t thanked, I thank you

Brett is a great person . He was doing a show in greenville sc when he got a call before the show began . His grandfather had passed away right before the show . No one knew this until about an hour into the show . He sat down on stage and started crying . He told us what had happened . He was very close with his grandfather . He said he decided to do the show instead of going back home . He dedicated a song to his grandfather and sung it setting there on stage crying .There wasnt a dry eye in the place by this time . He played on that night and finished the show . Awesome show I will never forget . Rock on Poison .🤘

This is a great song. There are two stories in this song. The first verse about Vietnam vets but the second verse that starts 'My Best Friend Died a lonely man...' is actually written about his body guard and friend James Maano who had died. Those are pictures of him in the clip and were added without Brett Michael's knowing and he got very emotional while filming this which can be seen..

CC generally gets a bad rap as a guitarist, probably mainly cause back in the day he had a bad drug problem and was pretty sloppy live, but sober CC is an incredible guitarist and writer. One thing about his solo's is every note is there for a reason, and he is really good at his solo's being a reflection of the song/story. Another amazing emotional solo is Poisons' Life Goes On, from the same album as Something to Believe in. It's considered by many as his best solo. And it's another really great ballad, not as "heavy" but still a really good ballad. But they also have their "fun" songs too, like Talk dirty to me (when they were really heavy into the glam), I Won't forget you, I want Action, Nothin' but a good time, Fallen Angel, Every Rose, Unskinny Bop, Ride the Wind...

I grew up listening to Poison, they were my favorite band. To me, this was they best song by far lyrically. So much emotion behind this song. I got a chance to meet Bret Michaels later on when he went solo in Nashville TN as a small bar venue and he was the nicest person, very friendly guy, spoke to me for about 15 minutes before the show started. We talked about our kids (his youngest is a week older than my daughter) and about tattoos ( I had just gotten my first tat that day). I remember he asked me if I thought I would ever get another one because once you get one you want more and at the time I was like nope but now I've got 6. We also talked about diabetes, because we both have it. He has type 1 and I have type 2. He was diagnosed when he was 5 or 6, he talks about it in one of his songs on his solo album Freedom of Sound. You should check out some of his solo stuff off that album, it's really good.

    Love your reactions!
Poison made my last year of High School so much fun. Their first album alone had so many hits, and that's rare for a band to do. Talk Dirty To Me, Unskinny Bop, Nothin but a Good Time, and their cover of Your Momma Don't Dance, are all bangers. They also have another amazing ballad called Every Rose Has Its Thorn. I think you'll love all these tunes.
I've also heard that Brett Michaels is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. It's said that he's amazingly humble. When I graduated in the late 80's, Vietnam still affected a lot of people. So when, "something to believe in" came out, it really touched a lot of people with military families. And even the homeless issue did as well as many of those vets were homeless for years after they came home. Even some more current vets end up homeless when their PTSD is too difficult for them to manage a normal life.
Thank you for the hard work you put into your channel. Watching you experience and like the music I grew up with is really kinda amazing.
I'd like to recommend "Uncle Tom's Cabin" by Warant. They, too, are an amazing band, and I think that Brett Michaels and Jani Lane (Warant's lead) sound and look a lot a like. Jani's story is quite amazing. He passed away in 2011 from cancer, I believe, and he too has always been regarded as a super nice guy.

When you mentioned how the guitar made you feel it brought to mind the song Guitar Man by Bread. Part of the verse
    He can make you love
    He can get you high
    He will bring you down
    Then he'll make you cry

Back when every band had to have a "Power Ballad" on an album.
    They're a fun band.
Another power ballad ais "Every Rose Has Its Thorn". Then the fun songs "Unskinny Bop", "You're Mama Don't Dance", "Fallen Angel", "Look What the Cat Dragged In" and a few others.

Crazy as it sounds, but this was "normal" 80's rock....❤ 🎶... A F*CKING AWESOME TIME/ERA/GENERATION, THAT I LIVED IN, AND YOU WILL ONLY GET TO EXPERIENCE AS..." history" ... A TIME GONE BY... An enlightenment of the joy, and freedom we enjoyed, but you are limited to the remembrance, only in cold audio/video...
"Happiness" ... It was a fantastic time to be a ... "generation" ... ❤ !!!! This was our music... 😉 ❤... Sigh... GREAT SONG !!!

You nailed it exactly a guitar solo is supposed to be. It should be like the guitar starts singing. cc Deville is a very underrated. His solos always compliment the song.

The part about his friend dying lonely was written a week or two after a friend of his had committed suicide, and that part of the song was the band's trying to come to terms with it. When I first heard it, I was surprised a hard-rocking band put a slower song out, and yet, I consider it now to be one of their best. In a time of "party all the time" songs, it was something different, and something that made many of us take a look at the world around us and see the consequences that go with the good in life.

Great reactions and you are right on about the solo. Cece is a genius, very underrated. For me, this song's solo is up there with pink Floyd comfortably numb (which is by far the best example of a guitar solo as a voice in the song), which you should check out if you don't know it.

Your perspective of the guitar ties back to electric blues. One of the most influential artists to do it was BB King, and his guitar where vocals and guitar licks kind of sang to each other; blues artists like him influenced generations of rock artists.

Makes me happy to see you ‘get it’ about a well executed guitar solo. CC isn’t exactly known as a great player but he has one thing in his corner: emotion. The guitar can speak, it has a voice, good players give that voice a life and soul.
    Yea, I’m a guitar player…
Side note: listen to some jazz trumpet players, they have the same. Or if you want to a really magical trip, George Benson, see if you can find where the guitar ends and his voice begins. You seem like someone that would understand it.

In regards to CC's solo, the appropriate phrase would be "serve the song." As awesome a player as he is, he could have played a solo with a lot of note density, but he let certain notes breathe and added bends, vibrato and/or whammy to give that solo lots of feel.

To your point about the guitar solo having that kind of wailing emotion. The solo in this song reminds me of an amazing instrumental called Cryin’ by Joe Satriani. Amazing emotional guitar work if you’re interested.

"Some say he was a good man, but Lord I think he sinned."
That's footage of Jim Bakker. He and his wife Tammy Fae ran the PTL ('Praise The Lord') Satellite TV network back in the 80s. In 1987, he resigned his ministry in disgrace when accounting fraud charges sent him to prison. It was also revealed that he had slept with (and paid hush money) to church secretary Jessica Hahn, who later went on to pose in Playboy and do some minor TV/film roles (she's in Sam Kinison's music video for 'Wild Thing').
