My favourite part about Orb is how his Final Form is actually his base form. For almost every single one of the New Gen Ultras, their final forms are crazy OP new powers they unlock frequently with the help of other Ultras. Orb on the other hand unlocked his final form by finding the light within himself (with help from Naomi of course) To add on to that, most New Gen Ultras unlocked their final forms after they struggled against a new tough enemy. This is the same for Orb EXCEPT that the enemy he was struggling against was HIMSELF (in his Thunder Breaster form). Ultraman Orb is simply an Ultraman genre reconstruction treasure trove. It flips the formula so much on its head whilst still maintaining an amazing story
Late reply but one thing I do like about Orb Origin is that an implied reason why Orb Origin is one of his best forms is simply due to sheer familiarity and experience with using said form due it being his original form, especially with all the battles from the Origin Saga in mind.
One of the great things about this series is that it feels like seeing an ancient myth playing out in modern day. From the monsters having mythological roots to the fact that our main hero and villain are thousands of years old not the mention the norse world tree stuff from the origin saga. This show is near perfect.
And let’s not forget the Orb Origin is basically a retelling of the tale of Orochi itself down to the part Orb sword is inside the tail of the monster 😁

I really like Ultraman Orb, it would be my favorite but I have one sort of big problem with the show, the side characters. I was not a fan of any of them, they weren’t the worst, but they keep this from being my favorite Ultraman show, so far Geed is still holding that title along with my 3rd favorite toku show ever, Ex-Aid is my 2nd and Shinkenger is my 1st.
Yeah that the biggest issue with Orb as the show overall. The side characters were annoying and probably useless on any situation they in except Naomi but she doesn't even do much.
Agreed, the side characters feel underdeveloped when compared to Geed. I like the SSP angle but I wish that the B plot for Orb they uncover the mystery behind Ultraman Orb vs Juggulus and how the recent Kaiju attacks are connected through their work.
This is why I kind of preferred Origin Saga over the main Orb series, since I thought its side characters were more interesting (especially since they used past Ultras whose series I haven’t seen). However, I still preferred Geed as a series to the whole Orb saga.

MAN, Ultraman Orb is one kickass series, makes me glad I got the series on Blu-ray back in 2019 when Mill Creek first started releasing Ultraman on Blu-ray, though the next couple of series will be on DVD including the first Ultraman anime (not the CGI one based on a manga, the one animated by Sunrise) the last Ultraman of the Showa era, and the TDG trilogy
Heck yeah Orb is also my favorite New Gen Ultra as well. But speaking of transformation it not just the aesthetic. What I love is as Ultra fan u can c how much thought put into Gai transformation sequence. Like his movement is a call back to the Ultra he used. One more thing is it hint Orb Calibur is hidden in Orochi before because that’s what happen in the legend of Orochi as well, so it a nice foreshadowing.
Ultraman Orb is actually the first Ultraman that I've truly considered as my all-time favorite because his form aesthetics are similar to Decade, yet he's different because of the fusions. Juggler's set up is also really great, to the point that he also became my favorite in Z along with his Kaiju fusions. That being said, I also love Orb Dark AKA Aizen/Cereza because of how he managed to subvert Orb's image while he became his own Ultraman Orb, and I'd love to imagine that after being freed from Cereza, Aizen stumbled upon Gai and became his disciple, regaining his Orb Dark form to atone for the mistakes that he never actually did yet feeling responsible for it. if I'm going to make a team of Ultra Heroes, that'd be Orb, Geed, Zero, Z, and Juggler as a wild card, with the non-Cereza Orb Dark as my kind of stand-in. I'm curious if the UR Orb Ring's new card set would give the ring access to new fusions or the previous fusions up to Z. Then again, I think it still needs the UR version of Ultra Cards to properly complete the Orb Set.
Orb was my first Ultra and despite it being an anniversary season laden with franchise lore and callbacks and references I didn't feel like it was too much to handle nor was I ever lost. It's what finally got me into Ultraman after feeling trepidation about it for so long.

Naomi’s uncle, the agent of VTLS is known as the uncle of Ultra. He got this title because he always makes actions that are similar to an Ultra’s human host. Sometimes he disappears when Ultraman Orb appears. After the battle, the Ultraman orb flies away and SSP is wondering where he went, he emerges from the hide and waves to SSP while yelling at them. This scene is similar to how Hayata yells in front of his comrades after Ultraman flies away. Even SSP suspects whether he is Ultraman Orb’s human host for a few episodes. That skeptic is removed when he fights alongside Ultraman Orb against Bemular and Alien Shapley.

I preferred Juggler from Origin more. It made him more believable as a torn individual who lost his way. He's the better warrior but not the better hero with him blaming himself for a loss. In the TV series he's sometimes crazy just to be crazy.

I love Specium Zepperion, but the literal only problem with orb origin is that now it makes specium-zepperion useless. why use it when you have Orb origin, a better all-rounder, hurricane slash, which can TELEPORT, etc.
Question for those older Tokuatsu fans. Is Ultraman even worth watching? I've only been into this stuff for about a year, and I'm currently watching both Super Sentai and Kamen Rider. And I also plan on watching Metal Heroes as well. But Ultraman just seems to complicated compared to those. Any thoughts, feedback or suggestions would be awesome. UPDATE: I figured what the heck I'll give Ultraman a try (already watching Sentai and Rider). And while I thought Ultra Q and Ultraman were cool, I wasn't like "holy shit this is amazing" and hooked. As such, I had no idea what to expect going into Ultraman Orb. Saying I'd have my mind blown doesn't do it justice. I mean I had a feeling I'd enjoy the newer shows more then the older ones, but the way they did the story, characters, everything it was just perfect. Hoping Geed is just as good. Not to mention Orb Origin
Personally for me, as a dude who watches super sentai and kamen rider from baby till now and only partially watched early heisei ultras before fully getting invested in ultra series last year, yes its really worth watching to the point that i actually prefer ultra series compared to rider or sentai nowadays. However, you need to have a different expectation for every era and season, especially the new gen ultras. In general, its about humans and their interaction with monsters and alien plus the giant man in spandex suit wrestling with monsters. Showa ultras are more episodic, bizarre, and surprisingly can be disturbing and super gory while kinda cheesy at the same time (especially the special effects, those kinda don't age really well but still acceptable for me). Heisei era focused a lot more in the attack team and its operation, and the new gen is more varied by season but usually more character focused (it also only has 25ish episodes since Ginga). I can't really say much about the showa era since im only halfway through the very first ultraman series plus a few episodes of seven and leo, but the heisei era are definitely worth watching for the first time viewer. Tiga Dyna Gaia are very self contained so its a very easy entry point for newcomer like myself. If you don't want to invest time watching 50ish episode, or you can't handle episodics format and/or older special effects, you can jump straight to new gen and watch X or Orb, those series are pretty easy to digest too since that's what i watched for my introduction to new gen ultras (you need to watch orb origin too tho if you want to enjoy the story and its characters to tye fullest). Some series like Nexus are also intended for adult audience not unlike Timeranger or Amazons. Just be wary that the older series tend to be more episodic and the newer series can have an excessive amount of blatant toy advertising (heisei era is the most balanced imho). So all in all, i recommend the very first ultraman if you really dont want to miss anything, Tiga if you want the best of both worlds and arguably the most balanced show in general, or X if you want the easiest and shortest series to complete as introduction to new gen ultras. The lore is super expansive and will confuse you, but as long as you enjoy the series and have access to wiki (and reddit, i guess), it won't be a problem, at least to me. Hope this helps.

My thoughts on Orb: Pretty good, probably my personal favorite entry within the New Generation Era. During the time of Orb’s airing was the time I was just returning to Ultraman after being absent from it since my childhood. When I first saw it, I thought it wasn’t going to be good and just skipped it, not having any interest in any of the new stuff. It wasn’t until the time of Geed that I decided to give Orb a chance. Not only was I very surprised with the enjoyment I was having throughout the show, but it was impressing me quite a bit too. It still had some bad moments, yes, and I’ll admit that the show doesn’t affect me as great as it did back then, but the hate that I held towards the New Generation Era of the Ultra Series gradually decreased significantly over time, and Orb still feels like a good series. Now, time to get into more depth with my thoughts. Warning: The following review is LONG (And maybe poorly worded). I mean multiple paragraphs worth of words. If you don’t want to die from boredom, now is your chance to leave. Also, this is completely opinion based. My words on the show should not sway you against your personal thoughts. If you really love Orb or absolutely despise it, that’s perfectly fine. I’m just going to share my personal thoughts and that’s it. Also, for those that haven’t watched the full series, THE FOLLOWING COMMENTS CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS. You have all been warned.
Also I have to disagree with your love of Gai's theme. It's not bad but was WAY overused so I wince almost every time it's played. I do love how Gai isn't an Earthling so he has more abilities when not Ultra while also not having a different personality when he is. Plus the stranger in a strange land can be played up for many of the jokes.
I loved Orb series, the only part I didn't like were the side characters and the "reveal" of certain character that have relationship with Gai, it's feel so random and nothing add to the story at all lol. Orb Origin Saga just bored the hell out of me.
I dunno all these Ultraman new gen shows with the obvious toy gimmicks is an instant visual turn off. Not to mention the goofy way the human characters act. They dont even act like real people at times. More like anime tropes. Also not a fan of new gen Ultramen calling out their attacks like anime characters. The lore is super expansive and will confuse you, but as long as you enjoy the series and have access to wiki (and reddit, i guess), it won't be a problem, at least to me. Hope this helps.

My thoughts on Orb: Pretty good, probably my personal favorite entry within the New Generation Era.
During the time of Orb’s airing was the time I was just returning to Ultraman after being absent from it since my childhood. When I first saw it, I thought it wasn’t going to be good and just skipped it, not having any interest in any of the new stuff. It wasn’t until the time of Geed that I decided to give Orb a chance. Not only was I very surprised with the enjoyment I was having throughout the show, but it was impressing me quite a bit too. It still had some bad moments, yes, and I’ll admit that the show doesn’t affect me as great as it did back then, but the hate that I held towards the New Generation Era of the Ultra Series gradually decreased significantly over time, and Orb still feels like a good series.
Now, time to get into more depth with my thoughts.
Warning: The following review is LONG (And maybe poorly worded). I mean multiple paragraphs worth of words. If you don’t want to die from boredom, now is your chance to leave. Also, this is completely opinion based. My words on the show should not sway you against your personal thoughts. If you really love Orb or absolutely despise it, that’s perfectly fine. I’m just going to share my personal thoughts and that’s it. Also, for those that haven’t watched the full series, THE FOLLOWING COMMENTS CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS. You have all been warned.

Also I have to disagree with your love of Gai's theme. It's not bad but was WAY overused so I wince almost every time it's played. I do love how Gai isn't an Earthling so he has more abilities when not Ultra while also not having a different personality when he is. Plus the stranger in a strange land can be played up for many of the jokes.
In conclusion
Get this man a Orbcalibur
Thomas is still downbad for Magine. And that's okay.

Man! Also watch Ultraman R/B, and Ultraman Nexus one of the best Ultraman that has one of the best opening songs. Just my opinion okay!

I loved Orb series, the only part I didn't like were the side characters and the "reveal" of certain character that have relationship with Gai, it's feel so random and nothing add to the story at all lol. Orb Origin Saga just bored the hell out of me.
I love orb its my 2nd favourite new gen and 8th favourite series in ultraman but Orb Origin Saga has to be my least favourite toku

I dunno all these Ultraman new gen shows with the obvious toy gimmicks is an instant visual turn off. Not to mention the goofy way the human characters act. They dont even act like real people at times. More like anime tropes. Also not a fan of new gen Ultramen calling out their attacks like anime characters. Not to mention the overly complex suit designs. meh.
