Saber for me was just kind of meh. It had some good thing and it had some a bad things and a good ideas but some of them weren't executed well. It wasn't terrible season but it wasn't something to write home about. Some of characters didn't get that much development that's not to say weren't bad or likeable my favorite were Ogami, Yuri, and especially Rintaro and Kento hell even Ren (who my in opinion gets way too much hate) Overall saber like I said just a kind of Meh

Saber is a season that I hold dearly as it's the "final" Kamen Rider that one of my buddies watched as it goes.... Until December. Long story short, he fell to COVID and I had a Primitive Dragon moment when I heard the news.
Fast forward to November, I decided to go watch it for myself (and in essence, for my fallen buddy and finish what he started) to see what the whole humbug was all about how the "writing is bad but the suit designs are great". As a certain toku youtuber would say: "Your opinions matter more"
Days before his birthday, I managed to finish it all and I gotta say, Saber is a 7.5/10. You're right about how the writing could've been better, the designs are right up there in Top 15, overall theme is unique (as is much of Reiwa so far)

On the extra final episode, Reika talks about how Ryoga is socially awkward and don't know to normally interact with other people, which leads him having to ask Rintarou for a duel, before he can properly apologize for being an a-hole when they first met. This would have being a fun character dynamic and/or quirk form him to have on the entire season, but we only got "Don't make angry" the character.

    • @rafaelperalta1676
      @rafaelperalta1676 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

I honestly thought the "don't make me angry!" was definitely overused along with "oniichan". Too bad they didn't give enough care for Sabela and Durandal. So much potential were wasted for these two.
One revision I could think of was to make Reika retain her cool and mysterious persona and Ryoga is an overprotective Shindai clan head while making them both unrelated. Reika has so much respect for him and Ryoga protects her like she is a little sister to him.

@@zbigbozbboy5245 that is obvious. They are not main characters but the writing could have been done a lot better for the amount of screen time the two had. I know the lore can be expanded but the thing is, you cannot be sure what the writers will do(they might even just continue making the two as the story's comic relief) or if Reika and Ryoga will ever be put up into the limelight. They are not like Oogami who is a fan favorite and has a lot of layers as a character during the show's run.

As my first true intro to Kamen Rider, ( i have since binged the entire Heisei Era,) Saber was a good starting point. The suit designs were fantastic, the acting was above average, and the characters had good development after the first arc, of course. I think what clinched this season as a win for me was actually the fact that Touma, while being the main character, really isn't the protagonist of the story. He is the first one we meet, and he is the "destined hero" and all, but he's just a guy who wants to tell stories. Its made pretty clear early on, that we are going to follow all of the Riders. and that is a nice way to get started. Also, As a music person, Almighty and Rewrite the Story being some of the best music in the franchise helped ALOT. All in all, I am happy Saber was my first season. it holds a special place. Its not my favorite, but its solid. (also fun fact. If you listen to the 3 main themes, Almighty, Kamen Rider Saber, and Rewrite the Story, each one is about a different one of the 3 main riders. But not the ones you think they are.

If you wanna know one of my biggest complaints of the season, I want to say its the overall lack of "proper usage" of the Megido. The Megido were supposed to be a supposed prevalent threat throughout the entire season, but they basically disappear once the first arc is over (Minus the Big Three, and for some reason, Charybdis) I honestly feel like they were majorly underutilized throughout the season, especially the concept of the grunts. They could have used them as more fodder to try and build up some more tension for the heroes, instead of just constantly throwing them at the bigbads until they finally kill them. If youre going to commit to the grind, at least give us some victories instead of these half-baked ones where the villains retreat (Except for Zoous. Big Beast Boy is fine with his "What doesnt kill me makes me stronger" hype)

Agreed. I don't think Saber is a bad show, but I wish they did more with the Megid. I actually thought that they were pretty cool Villains (not to say that Master Logos was a terrible Villain). I would've loved to know more about who they were and what they did BEFORE they became the Megid. How did Legeiel and Zooous forget their memories as humans when Storious seemingly kept his?
And don't get me started on the badass monster suits. Each of them look pretty unique and menacing (Legeiel's design is my favorite). I wonder what Storious' powered-up monster form would have looked like had he not become a Kamen Rider.... 🤔

I thought Saber was really interesting but way too ambitious. It needed to subtract and combine some characters because there were a lot of redundancies with what they wanted.
For example: Lintaro, Ogami, Reika, and Ryouga want to protect someone they love. Zooous, Legeiel, and Master Logos want power. Kento and Storius want to escape from predetermined destiny.
I thought it was fascinating watching how the show tried to juggle with all of the characters in a world with a complicated lore, but I think it took too big of a bite than it can swallow.

Saber had both extraordinary strengths and glaring weaknesses at the same time, though in its final days Saber's strengths managed to successfully overcome its weaknesses. The first arc was what most people would basically call just a "30-minute toy commercial", because the lack of impact, coupled with the fast pacing, made Saber lost the "X-Factor" that makes a Rider series more than just a toy commercial. The later arcs were quite a bumpy ride as they had their ups and downs, but Saber's characterizations were very consistent from the beginning to the end.
I think one of the factors that added to Saber's problem is that Takuro Fukuda, the head writer, was mostly absent from the writing department, wherever on this green Earth he could've been to. Heck, Keichii Hasegawa, who was actually the show's secondary writer, wrote more episodes than Fukuda did, including the finale, which technically should've made him the main writer instead of Fukuda. I acknowledge that Fukuda wrote some good episodes here, but it's pointless when he's mostly AFK during the long run. Maybe he should be blacklisted? :P
Overall, it was a wild ride, and I enjoy it as well. And most importantly, Saber also uses crossover forms which I also like a lot. XD

I totally agree with most things Thomas said, expect for Reika. I feel like we could improve her character in a different way, a complete 180 with her relationship with her brother. I think having her hate Ryoga Shindai would be far more interesting, and could lead to her leaving the Sword of Logos to join Touma's group. I'd imagine it would be over Ryoga being stronger and treating his sister like a underling. This way her character wouldn't be sided line, and it could lead to more development for her. I really like Reika, and think Rider needs more strong Female characters (Rider wise ofc).

It was actually my favorite Kamen Rider series based on just that first third. Once I got into the second third, it kind of lost me in terms of actually caring about the story. I was really annoyed with Kento… Like a really angry. I found his character to be extremely annoying and repetitive. Things got only a little better once the third arc started, but that was also kind of a mess for me. I agree with you about Saber being amazing. While the show did have its flaws with the missed opportunities and pacing (I'm looking at you, Fukuda), the characters, story, foreshadowing, and fight scenes are what sold me into Saber as a good show. And my obvious highlight was Bahato, mainly because of one word starting with an A and ending with an N, how he steals the spotlight whenever he was onscreen, and Falchion is my favorite Rider in the entire franchise. Sorry if I rambled too much, though.

Personally i loved Saber (i too am going broke thanks to this show, btw love your unboxing videos)
Overall i do agree with alot of what you said here, it actually made me look at a few things in a better light than before, but I don't really agree with your taken on Ryoga. Yea at first i hated him cuz he used underhanded tactics, the whole pop in and out time to strike someone in the back, and the fact he was belittling one of my favorite characters while doing it didn't help...
But as it went on i grew to enjoy him as a character, he's the "tsundere" of the show to me, he wants to be stoic and distant but he eventually in his own way starts to trust and enjoy being with the others. My favorite scenes with him were in the Zenkaiger crossover where we learn that despite not showing it, his (non incestual) love for Reika is mutual (plus him hanging with the Zenkaiger is funny as hell) and his scenes in the end where he just ask "when" for the final battle showing that he has their back, him telling Rintarou (again in his own way) that he should go help Touma and his battle (pissed me off that it was off screen) with Blades where in the end he acknowledges him as a swordsman which bookends how they meet.
Yea Reika becomes overly lovey dovey for him but i see it more as something good cuz it shows shes not all plotting and smirks and can be super adorable too. Plus some of her best scenes to me is when she attacks people for getting to close to him.
Overall I love Saber, from the story to the characters to the gimmick and aesthetics, its not my all time favorite but its definitely top 5.
Now i wanna see how Revice tops it, Vice is definitely a good start xD

I imagine for an adaptation of saber would be like long ago like 10000 years ago in another world there was an evil king (solomon) who made the megid to rule that world till a brave knight fought and sealed away the king and his army at the price of his life and after the battle his sword broke into 11 pieces which were used to make the seiken and made their own legends. Then one day the (input typical fantasy catastrophe with a "evil uncle/kings brother" and sorta reverse isekai) after that the princess was sent to slumber with some knights on earth for safety 1 of the 11 swords we're lost. Then the villains start attacking earth to find the missing sword lead by the main megid and the dark swordsman to free the evil king leading to the princess and knights awakening and are main character (not one the knights) is chosen by the recently discovered sword of fire to battle evil under the training of the knights.

Great video and points. I agree with your thoughts about Saber. Apart from what you said, what this series really needed in my opinion was a couple of downtime episodes to give time to the characters to interact between themselves. For example, some more scenes between Desast and Ren that showcased their unique relationship would have made the final fight between them even more impactful. Also, regarding Reika, it would have been nice if she had defected from the Sword of Logos on her own due to her doubts towards Isaac. She and Ryoga clashing in subsequent episodes could have been used as a means to develop both characters, and having her struggle to earn the trust of the Northern Base Riders after manipulating them could have made her into a more integral part of the team. Perhaps the writers could also have her develop a closer relationship with Touma among the other Riders (you know, smoke and fire).
But I digress. Once again, excellent review, and see you in Revice!

My thoughts? Well, I didn't cry when Kento died, I liked the show a lot better when Yuri got introduced, and Sophia is useless, so is Durandal and Salleba. Favorite characters were Tassel, Yuri, Daishinji, Bacht, Rintaro, Desast, Touma (in the 2nd arc), and Ren (in the 3rd arc). Suits and henshins are awesome, villains overall were meh. The times where I felt the most emotional was when Bacht came back, Ren and Desast's final fight and the final fight of the season (before getting Wonder Almighty) I ended the season feeling so irritated because there was this horrible build up. Everyone was saying how when Touma acquires Luna's power (wonder almighty) he'll disappear and never be seen again. Yet after he disappeared he just came back like nothing ever happened. I guess what really annoyed me the most was that no one died. More than that, I'm just not a fan of stories where the heroes just get beaten up all the time but no ends up dying. Resurrection in stories for me takes away the weight a death can have on the characters. Overall, I give Saber a 6/10

My favourite part of Saber were fighting scenes. I really enjoyed choreography here. Because it was swords based it stands out from the rest of Rider seasons. Also Saber and Yuri vs King Megiddo and Reggil vs Kenzan vs Desast from episode 20(I think) is now my most favourite fight scene in Kamen Rider. It was so chaotic, but it was manageable to follow who opposing whom and why. Also it greatly forshadowed Ren's friendship with Desast with a single attack shot

To be honest, the first part is clearly the best for me. That is the only part where Touma's novelist talent are put to use to fight people, with his awesome talent for Wonder ride Book and how he wrote/planned a whole fight to save Ogami from his petrification.
Them not really knowing each other was NEVER an issue. It's like HxH. Gon, Killua, Kurapika and Léoli barely know each other but work greatly together right? Same thing here.
The different Wonder Ride Book are all put to great use, giving great fight with diversified power everytime. The Animation and effect were more use since it was the begenning, and each revelation make the story progress, may be the Avalon story or the revelation of who is really Calibur and why he's doing what he's doing. Plus you got Mei doing an AMAZING job at supporting the boys and providing great comic relief (especially when she goes Pom-pom Girl all over Rintaro).
It's the part were the Wonderworld is the more investigated actually, with all the megido linking the 2 world everytime they going crazy.
Every character are great in that arc, even Ren that actually become a waste of a character for me going forward.
The rider form are AWESOME and all the budget put into the effect (like when they use the library CGI stuff every time they transform, or when they you their final attack, or the voice use for the Wonder Rider Book and their final technique. the "REKKA! BATTOU!" is killing me EVERY TIME.) the presentation was WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYY better than in the 2 last arc.
And I think that the scene are way more impactfull in the first arc. Like when Kamiya tell to Touma what happened 15 year before the event of of the show, with the OST kicking and setting the ton PERFECTLY, Kento's death that was well dealt with, faking it first, then the next episode they actually trie to save him but they failed then he "die". So Sad... I could go on and on.
    What good about Saber:
-The Fights. They are great! Good choerography most of the time, emotion are real and the effects were beautifull.
-The Ost: one of the best ost, only losing to Build and Kiva (Kiva best Kamen rider series of all time. The GOAT)
-The Riders Overall Design: Blade Tategami form and Saber Emotional Dragon form are GOATED (Best kamen Rider form ever along with Evolt Black Hole Form from Build and Emperor form from Kiva). beside that, the wonder book voice actors did a great job, the rider form are cool as hell, the way they activate their power is innovative and cool.
-The vilain: Not Evolt level, but they are cool, the best being Isaac(Master Logos). This guys is so good because his reason for destroying the world seems stupid at first, but when you really take attention it's really something you can relate. The sole fact that he goes againts the obvious "I lost a loved one" trait by wanting to destroy the world just because he's bored as hell is awesome (especially because he mock Touma and Rintaro about it). When you go deeper into his reason, he said that he live way longer than normal human and that his clan's mission is to guard the human world, but sitting on his throne and giving directive for 200+years, being able to do nothing for yourself, chained to do your duty to protect the Omnisciente Book and do nothing with it even tho if you have power, you SHOULD use it (every thing I say come from his mouth too). Its a really "real Human" reason to do what he does ( of course, he's kinda crazy, but you know what I mean). Kamiya and Storious were good too.
    What Bad about Saber:
-The Writing: God damn the writing is so bad, especially for the last 2 arc. How Rintaro's Tategami lose to Eternal Phoenix in ONE HIT!? 2 episode after Tategami form got introduce. Touma Cross Saber form losing to one of the 4 sage... Elemental Dragon form is USELESS to the story, RintaroxMei should have been a thing the moment Rintaro and Touma helped her with the awakening skill, and after Rintaro got Tategami form, solidify their relation, enabling their relation to evolve in more episodes going forward instead of letting it in the side until the end. Ryoga is useless for the story and he got snuffed in battle by plot lol. Touma dealing with him just by looking because of his "Chosen one" BS is nosense. They should have take more interest in Touma's genious use of the Wonder Book to deal with Ryoga. To get thing right, they should have:
Kamiya don't have Jaou Dragon's power but still beat every one because he have WAY more EXP than them. Touma getting Draconic Knight allow him to win. Then Kento get Jaou Dragon power by reviving, allowing him to beat/equal Touma. Get Touma to heavely use the Wonder book combo then using Draconic Knight to finish Megid off. No Elemental Dragon BS cause that is useless and replace it with his EMOTIONAL DRAGON form (best Saber form BY FAR) he got from the special episode with Bahato. the rest can stay the same, but you respect powerscaling.
-The Characters: SO MUCH WASTED POTENTIAL!!!! REN BEING THE FIRST! Damn I thought they would do a badass thing with him siding with Desast, training with him and succombing to the power of darkness and all and maybe being the Last Boss, but they did nothing with it and he have 0 back story. Touma is so bland most of the time, but he does have INCREDIBLE moment (especially when he get new form or when he shout out of grief when Kento tell him what happenend to him in the darkness). Reika going from Queen to Thot REAL QUICK. Ryoga... Don't get me started. Ogami and Daishinji are not explored ENOUGH(they should have made flashback of their respective past). Yuuri is GOATED but should have died at the end or stay in the wonderworld with Luna and stuff. Bahato (phoenix Rider) is Useless. Tassel is Goated. Kento is good, but they should have let him keep Kurayami and Ikazuchi (Swords), giving him a final form with the 2 swords. Mei is actually good in this show. She did her thing: support every one. Being Rintaro or the other. Even Bahato lol. She's good. Rintaro is GOATED GOATED. But yeah overall, they wasted so much thing!
Like, They should have class all the swordmen. Like: Touma is bad at swordfight, but goated at Wonder Book use, Rintaro is balanced, Kento bad at Wonder Book use but super good at swordfight, Ren being accross the board at everything, like the genious he is, only lacking in experience, Buster and Slash being average but they have WAY more experience and their ride form have spec that elevate their level to awesome hight. Like Buster being hard to de-transform since he's so tanky,ect... so much wasted potential...

As someone who has watched both Ghost and Saber around the same time(completely coincidental I swear). If Saber stayed the same as it did during the first arc, I very much would've considered saber worse than Ghost. I think stuff like Primitive Dragon (Despite making me wish we had less berserk forms as both of the reiwa seasons have berserk forms in them ). And Solomon Alongside the direction and production near the end very much made me like it more than ghost. But it still ended up having alot of the same issues I had with ghost in how I did not like the writing and characters. Before they focused on Zoous again, if you held me at gunpoint and told me to tell you the differences or names of the megid commanders I would not be able to tell you a single thing. I really felt like suzune and buster needed more development. As much as everyone seems to love Ren's character near the end I just couldn't. Him and Desast just don't have that bond or chemistry that alot of similar relationships in other seasons have. So when that big scene happens I just couldn't bring myself to care. And that's how I feel about most of the other riders because they really aren't given the development or fleshing out they really needed. I think Touma is a better handled protagonist compared to Takeru. But still falls in alot of the same pitfalls that Takeru does of being on the verge of a mary sue where everyone must like him and everyone ends up liking Touma. At least here he had to work for it and I enjoyed the scenes with him and Rintaro during that arc. Solomon was the only villain I really enjoyed because of how little depth he had alongside his fakeout when he looked like he was about to tell his reasoning. And Storius felt like he came in too late when he was there since the beginning. This is all just my opinion and I'm sure I'm forgetting stuff since I watched this weekly. I'm glad alot of people seem to like it and I am glad that I did ultimately watch it. But man, I just couldn't get into it like others seem to.

  • @dragonblade3891

I'll admit, I didn't much care for Saber starting out, but it got consistently better over time and I really started to get into it around the time we learned Calibur's backstory and real motivations along with the arrival of Saikou. It does have its share of problems, such as I feel some of the villains could've been more fleshed out, especially the Megid who seem to take a backseat to the conflict during the show's second half. There were some really good payoffs though, like Kenzan and Desast's friendly rivalry, and any time I got to see Solomon get wrecked was a real treat.
Overall, good season in my book, definitely not on the same level as the truly great seasons like Gaim and EX-Aid, but a step above just ok. If I were to give a grade, I'd say a solid B.

Great review! I totally agree with you for the most part! In the beginning it was mostly the character designs and the wonder ride books gimic that grabbed me, but as you said with act two things really picked up and it was a great ride from then on! There was so much great about the show that it's hard to say who my favorite character is! I agree though about the writing of Reika and Ryoga. It would have gone a long way in reducing the weird factor in their relationship if they had been something like Sensei and student rather than brother and sister! Reika really grew on me though! A lot of people don't like Xross Saber, but I honestly honest-to-god love the suit. Repaint be damned. I liked Brave Dragon already enough tho it's not my favorite, but it started to look so good once it had the starry paint job. Like Toei said, this is the ultimate in the "Simple final form" gimmick they're doing for Reiwa so it was now or never that they were doing it. And they did a great job in it being able to also do the form change. It was so cool to read the production notes in that they had trouble handpainting the damn thing three times! They had the main close-up suit, the form-change suit, and the stunt suit and they all had to paint. They did a great job with it, I'd say, and I would love its inevitable Figuarts release.

This is my first Kamen Rider show that I've watched throughout the year. For Saber, I loved the theme, the plot, the gimmicks, and the suits. It started a little slow, but it was working up strong. The ending was a bit bittersweet because of some of the good guys passed on, but on the bright side everyone has returned, the villains can rest peacefully, and Touma is reunited. For the Kamen Riders itself, which again this is my first show I watched. I didn't seem to have that same spark inside whenever I watch Super Sentai, mainly because they didn't use enough monster-of-the-week like the Sentais. I don't seem to like the Rider shows at the highest rate as Super Sentai. However, that doesn't mean that I don't like it because since Kamen Rider Saber was about books, I watched it because reading and writing is one my hobbies, and I wouldn't mind seeing all the episodes of Kamen Rider Ex-Aid since it was based on another hobby I like to do, playing video games. Overall, I really enjoyed Kamen Rider Saber, I may not be the biggest Kamen Rider fan like how I'm a big Sentai fan, but I can still watch them depending on whatever theme that sparks my interests.

The first arc was a bit messy... and caused a lot of people to skip the show entirely due to the following (afaik):
    1. Lots of riders... means lots of toys... and in rapid succession every week. Many fans were complaining about this and accused Toei of being cash cows and such.
    2. The writer of the show is the same as Ghost, which is "said to be the least liked Heisei" series. It's notorious for retconning a certain plot point that was introduced in its first crossover movie with Drive (which is the reason for Ghost's dad's demise) that made the movie non-canon, but introduced a plot point that WAS canon in the Drive storyline (Drive's marraige with the heroine).
    3. As what you mentioned, fast pacing which didn't flesh out the characters till later into the series.
It got better in the middle though... and it's interesting to note that the main villain's motivation for all of this was like: "This omnipotent book knows all of poems before I wrote them?!? F#%@ this s%&^!!! I'm throwing a tantrum and destroy the world while I'm at it!"

A lot of the scenes with the human form of the villains were shot in front of a green screen and probably shot separately then stitched together. It's a bit disjointed in places and out of suit scenes shot on location tend to be limited to two or three people in one frame.

    *Overall thoughts on Saber:*
    [What I liked]
    -Swords
    -Tassel's narrating
    -Yuri as a character
-Ren and Desast may not be well developed characters, their feud was a fine payoff.
    [What I hated]
    -too many characters
-1st arc was cramped with many info to process
-jingles aren't as catchy to remember though loved Jaou Dragon, Kin no Buki Gin no Buki, and Crimson Saber.
-Solomon, to me, felt like Cronus but without character.
-Movie felt pointless if villain has a recurring role and development in Series Proper.
-Touma could've just been next Tassel but happy ending says no.
    [Honorable Mention]
-Reiwa is starting a trend where Extra Final Forms are just Base Form but little more fancier.
*Final Verdict:* Stop having Riders who mains a Red Dragon.

Not really fond about the Extra Final Form bit.
It worked for Zero-One since its the regular Progrise Key changing colors and signify the base form has been boosted(and apparently has a strong affinity against Ark-based enemies like Ark Scorpion).
Saber doesn't work since its a completely new Book, in fact it could have been used to access Saber's true final form since Xross Saber is essentially Black Hazard in the concept of having a boosted version of previous forms(but without the berserk risk)

But other than that, there's banger soundtracks, awesome suits (yes even the repaints and kitbashes because frankly i don't care if they are that as long as it still looks good), good character moments, amazing choreography and fights, good practical effects, and cool toys and gimmicks. Saber as 2 HEROS !! Saber and BLADES !! So for all the people who dislike Saber but love Blades it’s almost normal !! That’s even why they both have that much forms and not Espada
We have on one side the Classic Knight hero who fight because it’s is destiny and knows everything about his skill: BLADES !! It’s like Kabuto , Decade or Exaid and Build
On the other side we have the Hero who is new to this world and doesn’t know anything even fighting : SABER !! It’s like ZIO , Zero One , Gaim

I liked Saber, it's good, but it's not best Rider series good for me at least, I'm always going to have OOO, Gaim, and Zi-O as my top three.
With the first few episodes, it did feel a bit rushed, mostly, episodes 1 & 2 felt like 3 episodes cut down to just 2 for time, and I feel that only helped to the idea that Saber wasn't going to be that good, they just feel to be missing some bits that would have helped expanded some more things, and if there was an extended cut for both, perhaps along with episodes 3 & 4, the show would have a stronger start to work with.
Though given I batch-watched episodes every few weeks, perhaps I only feel like that because of that, and I felt the show really got going in as we learnt the truth about Calibur and Yuri entering the picture as Saikou.
I just wish we still did Wonder Rider combos later on, and personally, I feel like either Dragonic Knight or Elemental Dragon should have been the final form for Saber, both have that look to me that feels they'd suit better than Xross-Saber, much as the Haohken was cool in it's own way.

personally, i felt that Saber never really set a FOUNDATION for its story. Okay, Kurayami and Saikou are the first swords and not forged, that the rest are based off, where did they come from? Why is Kyomu different? We eventually got the Megid generals' backstory, but it came FAR too late. Tategami Hyoujuusenki required a part of the Tome to be created, but how was it the Northern Base was able to just CREATE books like DaiSenki and Dragonic Knight? The sealing bit you mentioned before was just a bump in the road, but could've been tied a lot more into Kurayami instead of "oh, yeah, Kurayami can do that too! But in a different way!" WHY did that ritual with Luna require the swords, including the forged ones, when her and the Tome pre-existed ALL OF THOSE SWORDS?
There were just so many story weaknesses that were lacking in Saber but weren't in Zero-One. Also, with so many Riders, we SHOULD'VE HAD MORE THAN ONE FEMALE RIDER. Sophia becoming Calibur at the last minute doesn't count.

First time viewer of the channel, loved your review of Saber. Just gonna list a few things I enjoyed / hated about Saber, and then I'll give some suggestions that Saber could have used.
    - as mentioned in the video, Saber started off a little shaky, but got a lot better throughout the series. The best character from the first arc, for me, had to be Caliber (before his reveal) because of *yes* the ominous voice. Later on, it was a tie between Yuuri and Rintaro (Blades' final form is so gorgeous).
    - a few forms and/or characters could have been left out. Dragonic Knight should've been saved as a final form and given a shield (no, Emotional Dragon doesn't count). Durendal should've had a better weapon AND personality imo. Sabela's infatuation with her brother bothered me too, thus ruining her badass debut as a Rider.
    - Primitive Dragon's suit actor deserves a Grammy. Just had to say that.
    - Solomon should've premiered earlier, or right as Touma discovered King Arthur. Would've made for a better arc.
    - gonna wait for the V-Cinema for Espada to really judge his character progression.
    - best and worst final boss has to go to Storius though. His methods of destroying the world was backwards to me. You're mad at the fact your stories were already "written" and telling Touma he can't create new stories is kinda weird. But, summoning the 4 Sages and watching that three episode stretch of non-stop fighting had me on edge.
Overall, Saber was definitely worth the watch! Imma go subscribe now!

I'm trying to work out an adaptation of Kamen Rider Saber. Making it a love story between the counterparts of Touma & Luna. Plus having an evil witch as the main antagonist. Ren's counterpart can be like Onimusha's Fuma Kotaro who's mother tried to get him away from the Sword of Logos as a baby, but they killed her as the organization lies to him.

I tried watching this season 3 times, with the third one being the one in which I managed to see largest amount of episodes from the season per watch of Saber (I reached about until episode 16, I think) before giving up on it for good. I'm sorry, but despite this season containing a lot of stuff that I like, I just couldn't get hooked up to it. I think that what really buggs me about what I saw from the season so far is that A) there are too many riders being introduced in very short intervals one after the other, B) many plot elements that are ment to help with lore and world building in the season are not explained, and it makes the who setting very confusing when you try to understand what's going on, and C) there are really annoying plot holes.

OH MY GOD! Thank you! You are literally the first person I've run into who actually addressed this!
I didn't think Saber was a bad series and I actually enjoyed watching it, but if there's one thing that I can complain about this series, it's that friggin' arc!
      1) For a weapon based on one of the most famous legends in history (a legend that's also my personal favorite), Kingexcalibur was BARELY utilized. Once the other forms were introduced, I feel like the writers just forgot about the Sword in general (Caladbolg doesn't count). I think Kingexcalibur should've been introduced much later in the story. It should have been on the same level as Haouken Xross Saber in terms of power. Which reminds me: as much as I wish that Hybrid Saber was used in the show, I can kind of understand why it wasn't. Theoretically, considering how powerful both Swords are said to be, Haouken Xross Saber and Kingexcalibur together probably would have made Saber WAY TOO OP than he already was.
      2) Avalon in general. When the show began, Avalon was set up to be this super important place that both factions were after. And this WHOLE conflict took place.... Within a span of 8 episodes (with Avalon only appearing for 2). Touma doubting himself about Kingexcalibur even though it was working perfectly in the previous episode aside, by the time episode 8 ended, I was like:
"Wait, so what was accomplished here?"
In short, I feel like the Avalon Arc was mostly kind of pointless.
My thoughts go deeper than this, and I have plenty of pros and cons, but I'm gonna save my full analysis for another day.

Saber has questions answered in the side story, that right the Swordsman chronicles it a side story that focuses on the side character. Also Buster has a prequel manga on how he became a rider.
So yeah I think because of real world events it affected the show and in order to fix that it had to compensate by making specials and one short manga to make some sense.

I do Like how Solomon subverted the troupe of having a deep backstory as a villain, but the way it was delivered it just went to feel like an empty hole in his character that needed to be filled. I had to theorize his motivation for myself when he slowly started to loose his grip on himself through out the story and see if any real hints slipped. and from what I got in a nutshell, He just got frustrated and sick of his Job defending a world he never had a real conviction to care for and decided to turn into a power freak to become a god. Not the most original motivation but I at least I can fill the void.

To be frank, I thought it was cool at first despite being a bit kiddy. But then I felt the story wasn't being treated with care as every 4-6 episodes they would try to sell a toy.
Like you said, some things are left out and there are alot of dumb plot points like touma and his lost memory, touma's youth and how they just randomly get powerups. The show didn't feel genuine because it felt like they were trying to sell toys rather than create a good story and a good world. Furthermore, seeing touma get his ass whooped because someone hurt his feelings get old real fast. Some moments were really nice and great like touma teaching Yuri about what it means to save the world and him reaching out to the dragon boy, not to mention cross saber has the most badass song. It really feels like they were trying to do alot of cool things but never got to because it's just so bloated. I really hated the fact that they brought everyone back as a force ghost, which is like come on, wtf is this. While I do agree that it has its good points, the whole show is really half-baked and hinges on forcing character flaws to get story progression. Mediocre 4/10, I gave it a chance, but I genuinely think it's not good.

  • @Takeru_Dono
    @Takeru_Dono ปีที่แล้ว +1

I like this video, but i feel like it didn’t really mention how good Bacht actually is, Bacht is a very pessimistic person and after we learn about his backstory we can surely understand why, he’s a guy filled with despair and hates this idea of power, so when he sees Touma he must think “oh you’re just another one of those people” and Master Logos basically reinforced this mindset by being everything Bacht hates, Bacht has absolutely 0 hope in this world due to this so when Touma finally defeated him it honestly felt like overcoming this last trial before getting the final form, the last hurdle, the final test before proving that YES, Touma IS the good guy they all need, and that’s why even tho his presence is short, it most certainly had an impact.
And all of this basically goes in line with what you said about the 2nd arc improving on the 1st cuz Bacht was just a guy in the movie but as we learn more about the lore he becomes a good character.
And an extra bit, i also wanna briefly talk about Kento, just like you said in this video, a lot of people think Kento is annoying cuz he didn’t believe in his friends cuz they change the things he saw in the future, but like think about that for a second, his dad who he knows was a great man and swordsman betrayed SoL for this and in his eyes he HAS to see this through, plus even beyond that, if you just lived through so many lives where everything you and your friends do just fail and fail and fail over and over and over again resulting in the end of the world each time, would YOU have any hope in this world? Would a couple of changes REALLY change your mind? When you’ve lived through so many lives where you and your friends fail? I don’t think so, it’s a miracle he even recovered from that.
