As someone who uses both Android and iOS it always makes me laugh when people make a big drama about switching between both these systems, just use whatever one you like. As for me I will get an iPhone 16 but when I get bored of that I will probably get whatever Android phone that catches my attention.
This is the true way to live.
Pixel and Android all the way for me. Have been for years. No more being behind in tech and selling it as new🤢
I have friends with Android and friends with iPhones. To a certain extent, we are different people.
I've used both Android (OnePlus 12) and iOS (iPhone 13 Pro) at the same time, and agree that it's certainly workable. Of course, you have to move to Google ID and apps, and then there's the expense of 2 sets of hardware, mobile plans and cloud services...but you get the best of both worlds.

Im upgrading from my trusty iPhone 12 and have one of these on order. I’m trawling reviews to justify the huge chunk of change and reassure myself of the huge leap in performance I’ll be gaining. I have to say I’m underwhelmed on the whole and it’s almost like I don’t want to admit it because it’s the latest model so it must be the best. I think I’m finally growing up. I think I’ll gets the iPhone 12 battery replaced and use the rest of the money to go and visit my brother in Aus at Christmas. The combination of this guy splurging on four phones in a year and the features I know I’ll never use in this new iPhone has caused an epiphany. Thanks.
Fair conclusion and wise use of money. Only think to be aware of is you are getting multiple years of upgrades, which 16 reviews only won’t mention. So battery life improvements year on year, speed improvements, screen improvements, camera etc. so 15 to 16 is yes underwhelming but all together it’s a solid update from 12 to 16
You don't have to touch the screen to get to the controls. A 2nd click of the camera control button will take you to controls

Great first look at the iPhone 16 pro max. I’ve got the iPhone 14 Pro Max at the minute. I wasn’t interested when the 15 pro max came out. However I like big screens and the main reason I want to get the 16 pro max is because it has a larger screen.

I was also looking forward to the larger screen, but it looks like the increase in size is really slight. I also wished the screen was wider instead of taller.
It would fit video and documents much better.
I wasn’t going to upgrade from my iPhone 14 Pro Max but my wife wanted the new camera button so we upgraded today. I like it I can’t tell really on screen size but you can definitely tell the side bezel are smaller. We both got the iPhone 16 pro max.

No heat issues yet but only using it for a few hours so far 🤷🏻♂️
It was warm at first but that’s because it was restoring from iCloud. It’s normal now 👍

I live in a hot climate while using whatsapp and instagram is warm enough to make me wanna sell 15 pm

Your studio mics sound much better to me than the iPhone mics. They are still pretty clear although they have noticeably less low end to them..
I was going to say the same thing. It sounds good but the studio Mike’s larger capsule picks up more bass and sounds better.
I acknowledge both of your comments, but I think if we really wanted to get a good contrast of how good the mics are on the iPhone 16 Pro it would’ve been helpful if he included an iPhone 15 Pro for comparison
Physics. You probably can get a good sound if you speak or sing close to the phone, but then you can’t shoot a good video.

I’ve been a “Max” user since the 11 PM and after using the 16PM all day today I’m actually considering going back to the normal Pro size now that they’ve made them bigger.

I’ve upgraded from a 15 Pro Max to the 16 Pro Max. When I put them alongside each other, I can see the difference. When I hold them in my hand, they feel exactly the same. And I’ve got teeny-tiny Trump-like hands.
So, if you’re good with the 15 Pro Max, you’ll be absolutely fine with the 16 Pro Max.
Yep. I did the same I had a 13 pro max and it was just too big and uncomfortable to use with one hand. When I got the 15 I downsized to the non max and it feels so much better.
Got my 16 pro max yesterday replacing 15 pro max. Took 15 minutes to swap data over to new phone. Love the look of the Desert Titanium. Great video thank you.
I just got my 16 Plus in ultramarine. Upgrading from the 14 Pro Max, and I am already in love with the 16 Plus. I think the camera control is going to be a game changer for me.

Regarding the microphones on the new iPhone, I think you’ll notice a significant improvement when in a noisier environment.
That audio straight out of the phone was shockingly good. Now I’m going to have to compare it to my SM7B.

Nice to see you got yours. I ordered mine on Monday 16. No communication from EE. On release day my order said ' Awaiting Confirmation'. Yesterday my order says delivery expected 4-8 October. Apple are quoting end October if you order now.

I struggled with the camera control same as you and I even checked the internet for its function. It’s just like the AirPod pro 2 volume control when I used it for the first time. It will become just normal soon.

On the mic, by default it they do sound pretty good, at least in a quiet environment. To really hear the difference though, you need to use the In-Frame or Studio audio mix though. Im honestly really impressed!

You can do a light double-press of the Camera Control to bring up Styles, Exposure, etc. You don't have to tap on the screen.
it's camera control because it's used to control the functions, to snap, it's always the on-screen button. Hence, it's camera control.

The main reason I like the pro’s is the always on display and promotion refresh rate
My wife and my iPhone 16 Pro Max’s came in today as well. I do use the public betas, so I’m on 18.1 with some of the Apple Intelligence features. I haven really had the chance to do much yet, but I really, as a photographer, like the new camera control “button”. Yes, it does take a bit of getting used to as anything complex does. But it works pretty well. It’s sort of a button, but not in the way people think of a button. It’s a capacitive button, not a mechanical one. But it does move slightly with a Taptic effect. My phone is black this year, and the woven cable is white. We have the 15 Pro Max and yes, it’s worth it to upgrade, if you have the use case. The 48MP ultra wide alone is worth it for me. But there are a number of other improvements. The new camera button is a game changer if you take a lot of photos and videos. The 120fps on 4k is a great feature for slo-mo. The increased capability for A.I. is significant. Graphics improvement is significant. If you’re a gamer, the ray tracing is twice as fast. There are other improvements such as larger batteries. How much is worth it? It depends on what you think is important. As far as the mics go. You have to set them up properly for the use. It’s something you really have to learn about to use it properly. I can tell that you don’t have the mics set up for your use. So, the 18.1 update for customers should drop in October and 18.2 should drop in late November, early December. Between the two, a fair amount of Apple’s A.I. will be there. By the way, Google’s Gemini still uses Google Assistant for almost everything, it’s not really Gemini that’s doing the work right now. You can tell as when you call it up, a window opens that says Google Assistant. So don’t be fooled.
Don't be fooled, they announced 🍏 Intelligence earlier in the year then touted the 16s as the AI phones then they ship with nothing.
I don't even understand how comparisons to other brands are relevant when even after the big headlines and shipping new products they are still years behind.
Gemini for some actions depending on device and level off update may operate Assist for some on device abilities, Assistant is staying on other hardware device too so not sure how this matters.
I can yell you which device gets the verbal ask when answers are needed and as it's been for ages and still is its not the updated iOS device thats ironically much newer and more expensive. Don't fooled
There’s different audio modes when editing videos. A new audio mix option allows you to choose between them. If you don’t change this, it stays in standard mode rather than in frame, studio, or cinematic.
Android phones didn't change in 2024...the iPhone did. Bigger screen, bigger battery, new ultra wide camera, stronger MagSafe, and studio mics are all upgrades that improve the user experience. I didn't even mention the new camera button...very cool and useful
Nothing I’ve seen or heard leads me to believe that the “studio” mics are that great. Maybe they’ll tweak in future software updates. That being said I’m an audio snob using a Neumann TLM-103 for my podcasts. Just got my iPhone 16 PM yesterday & like it. Nice review!
Which camera have you used before switching to the iPhone 16 pro one?
I'm contemplating a 14 pro max to 16 pro switch. I've always had pro max sizes, but I've also always secretly hated how chunky and heavy it is. Think the regular 16 pro is a good sweet spot, now that it's a smidge bigger, or should I just have them put a new battery in mine and call it a year?
I have a friend who had the lovely blue titanium 15 pro last year who is buying a 16 pro this year. He is going to get £510 back for a trade in. I almost wanted to say:
“So you are paying £580 for an extra button? Got it….”
the sound from the Iphone 16 pro Max was very good
All IPhones sound great upon release, it’s when they start with the updates that fix one thing and breaks another, that messes up the sound.

I went from 14 Pro to 16 Pro Max mainly because I wanted a bigger screen. My only complaint is that the stickers are broken in iOS 18. Everything else has been great. I actually really like the camera button. Pressing it pops open the camera app no matter what and the zoom is quite nice. The learning curve isn’t bad at all like I’ve heard from reviewers. If you already have a 14 Pro Max, however…I would say skip the 16 Pro Max and just get a battery replacement. And don’t upgrade to iOS 18 until they fix the bugs.

Just made that upgrade from 15 pro max to 16. Prefer to sell my old one each year and still get a decent amount of money for it.
I decided to go for the iPhone 16 Pro. Coming from an iPhone 12, this is a complete upgrade from what I currently have. I like that it's got a faster CPU and a faster refresh rate. I also like the 48 MP cameras compared to the 12 MP cameras that the iPhone 12 has. I also like the idea that you can record video in 4K. With all that said, I'm having a hard time deciding if I wanted the iPhone 16 Pro or Pro Max. I have the iPhone 16 Pro on presale and I'm picking it up tomorrow. I'm thinking I may exchange it if I like the Pro Max better.
Buy pro max with eyes close big phone come with big battery this good phone for long run bigger is better

The phones mics sounds great!
The mic is almost too good as the sound reflects the audio configuration of your studio. So perhaps near/far aren't as a well tuned as they could be? Image quality excellent of course. Not as good as a separate pro camera and pro mic obviously, but if you're starting out...
I had the 15 Pro Max for the 5x zoom, going from a 12 Pro. However, now that both Pro models have the 5x I've just ordered the 16 Pro as I've struggled with the size (small hands). I hate spending the money, usually go 3-4 years before changing, but that half a centimeter difference in width does make a difference in comfort! iPhone 20 Pro will be my next though 😂

In United States, we don't get a SIM tool or Apple stickers. I did read that if you pick up your iPhone at an Apple Store, then you can request a sticker ... but only while you're picking it up.

@MarkEllisReviews you mentioned your Ours ring scratching everything. Do you find having it on your index finger a regular issue? I’ve got one but on the ring finger, however the readings can be a bit…off. I was thinking next time, I’ll go index finger but not if it interferes the handling of things like my Pro Max phone!
The low refresh rate is a dealbreaker. I am buying a phone that I plan to keep for 3-4 years, and I won’t spend extra money on a pro version especially when I couldn’t care about the other minor pro features

But this is a review of the pro max which doesn’t have low refresh rate?
Your studio mics are very clear (as though the pick up mic is under your chin) and quite bassy, switch to the iPhone mics and it's noticeably worse, thinner sounding (it's as though the pic up mic is on the other side of the room) with a bit of echo/ reverb, it's as though the room was initially treated and then you've taken the room treatment away. You do eventually get used to the inferior sound and I suppose it sounds OK. Maybe there are settings within the mic app to improve the sound.
I've switched from Iphone to Fold 6 and I doubt I'll go back to Apple. I might get the S25 ultra when it comes out because of the camera, but it's literally incremental changes from Apple each gen
The phone mics seemed to lose a fair bit of top end compared to your studio mics. I'd probably use them for video work but I'd almost certainly drop an exciter plugin on top. Mind you, I'm listening on my desktop speakers which are not studio quality but like most other people's speakers.
I’ve been using iPhone since the iPhone 3G, I tried to switch to Samsung for 2 years but I couldn’t, there’s something on the iPhone that makes me not even to try other phones
I've owned many pro and hollywood mics. I will say it mostly comes down to how these audio files hold up in post production. Straight out of the phone is a no go.

The mic quality was not that impressive though I think (not sure) on the iPhone you can later change settings for different mic outputs.
Also, what screen protecter do you use and does it sit flush edge to edge for a person not using a case.
Oh, take a look at the Arc Pulse cases if you want minimal.
I use a Lica that goes out 750 zoom. Some concerts will not let me use it. So I bought the new iPhone to take to concerts.
Problem with the 16 Pro & Max is the loss of the 3x lens, so you’re left with cropping (and the resultant image quality loss) between 24mm and 120mm ! That’s a big compromise to make. You’ve really got to be committed to the 120mm focal length.
For most people, 15 Pro (not Max) would be the better choice.
The 15 pro is a better choice because of a single camera lol

I upgraded from a 14 pro Max which was getting quite sluggish and also Battery Life was not the best in fact it had gotten worse and the Battery Life was already mediocre to begin with on my 14 pro Max. I’m impressed with the camera so far with my 16 pro Max and the desert titanium looks gorgeous but the colour is very similar to that of the 11 pro Max.
Bought the 16…..given I fancied a MagSafe charger…then they’ll be a decent case ….screen protector ..it all adds up and there was a limit I was prepared to pay
The mics sound fine to good. A bit of reverb, but so minimal

I saw someone else do a video and they used the recorder app to record audio and they put the phone in a sock and it worked well as a pop filter.
4K 120fps video eats up 0.8 GB per minute.

I refuse to upgrade from iPhone 14 Pro Max 1TB till they offer 2TB in 17 Pro Max.
The camera button was cool though.
You can record straight to SSD, which i guess is something you would do, if you record allot of recording in 4K 120fps.
I'm guessing 2tb is a small, small share of the market.

I got the 15 pro last year. Just ordered the 16 pro max. I want a bigger screen and battery life plus 6.1 to 6.9 is a huge jump so it might actually feel like a big upgrade lol

Two half presses will bring up the camera control…controls. haha. And the “studio quality mics@ are an after the shot edit done on the phone. Your video here just has the mics without changing the settings to get the “studio” quality. Good vid!
Tried the two half presses numerous times and couldn't get it to work.
15 pro design is a mature design. It’s beautifully practical everyone likes it. So why change it just for the sake of change on 16pro? i get no desire nor care if others notice i get a new phone.
How could you mention every difference between the Pro and non-pro models and leave Pro- motion? The standard models are 60hz

@@MarkEllisReviews I get it. We shouldn’t expect perfection from anyone. I just think failing to mention something that is a very significant difference between the Pro and non Pro, is a huge miss. I’d go as far as stating that if the non Pro models were 120hz, they would easily be the ones to buy for probably 8/10 people.

Hey Mark, you talk about technology manufacturers holding back functionality like the focus lock, same is happening with cars the new electric Volvo SUVs aren't delivered with things like Apple Car Play and some of their safety features. All totally crazy.....
